The food was great we did the grill. Our waitress was definitely in hover mode. We laughed about it, but she was very involved in our meal. Usually when they bring the check they leave and come back not stand over you mad dogging you as you struggle to count. I kept hearing "you pay, you pay now and you leave!" I asked for more rice three times to no answer finally she snapped at me "you get only one rice!" I said I'll pay for more I understand it cost money. I felt like winging 50 cents at her for a cup of rice. We had appetizers that did not require utensils or chop sticks. We finished them and she tried to take the chop sticks saying "oh you no use chop sticks" and it was like she didn't want to give them back. We cooked the last meat on the little table top gas grill that is a camping stove that runs off of a bottle. She turned off the flame and admonished us "you're done cooking turn of stove" It makes you wonder if they're pinching Pennie's at your table what are they doing in the back read more

I came here to celebrate my birthday with Bulgogi. I ended up having bibimbap instead and was very happy with it. There was the option of Korean barbecue and while cooking at the table appeals to some I am afraid that I'll do something clumsy; hurting myself and others. I have not been to Korea. I have no idea what authentic looks like. This was what having a meal at my Korean friend's houses is like and I really enjoyed it. Most of the patrons were not white or speaking English which is always signifies to me AND as a therapist I don't want to overhear your conversations. The food was quite good, and our waitress was very attentive. However, the ambiance was just average. I wish restaurants would pay for music that complements the food they serve. I've noticed that many places either play really loud American music or choose songs that don't align with the dining experience. I prefer a setting with low, soft music that matches the cuisine, along with appropriate furniture, dishes, and drinks. It's also nice to see servers in tasteful uniforms with name tags. Here's my review of this restaurant: We ordered the Korean barbecue for two, which involved grilling our meat at a grill located in the middle of the table. Unfortunately, they didn't provide enough meat or side orders, so we had to place an additional order to feel satisfied with our dinner. Additionally, the location was quite far, and I didn't particularly like the neighborhood. The furniture was very basic, they played American music--which I didn't enjoy--and there were no Korean decorations to enhance the experience. Lastly, our early dinner for two, along with two hot teas (no refills) and no dessert, cost us $110 So, would I return? Probably not. My friends and I went to Koreana III today, it was my first time there but not my first time having Korean BBQ. The food was delicious, we each ordered off the BBG menu: chicken bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi and Pork Belly. It came with white rice and sides. We were so full and satisfied with that but the hostess made fat phobic comments to me when I was eating my food. The restaurant wasn't crowded but the waitress/hostess let us know that the kitchen was busy which we were okay with but also the wait wasn't unreasonable. The place was clean would probably do better with more staff and training of said stuff on how not to me fat phobic jerks. For the reasons mentioned above I don't think I'll go back but I wouldn't mind eating their food again, the kitchen staff did a phenomenal job. read more

We went for lunch today and arrived to a mostly empty restaurant. We waited to be seated for 5+ minutes, then at our table the waitress disappeared for another 10+ minutes. No offer for drinks or to take an order for our appetizer. She finally came back a while later and took our order of two unsweet teas, seafood pancake and two entrees. The teas were basically colored water, not a hint of tea flavor at all. The seafood pancake was brought and I asked for soy sauce. The waitress pointed to two small bowls with just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl with liquid. What asian restaurant rations soy sauce? I asked if I could have more and she brought a third bowl with the same amount. When our entrees arrived my wife's was fine, but mine was spicy squid which had no sauce except the oil it was cooked in and was just not good at all. Lastly, the banchan was five small bowls with one being cut sheets of seaweed. Absolutely disappointing and will not be back. This was also $75.00 with tip. We are also avid Korean foodies and I've lived in South Korea for a year and know traditional expectations for Korean cuisine. Mediocre would be a compliment to this meal. read more

Having been to Gogi 1055 on Bardstown rd, this just may be my new favorite Korean restaurant. Located off of Preston highway in a shopping plaza, I highly recommend checking this place out. No reservations are needed. You walk in and are asked if you want to do the BBQ or regular dine in. Of course my friend and I chose the BBQ. The table is equipped with a gas burner stove and hood just above the table. For the bbq, you do have to choose a minimum of two meats, we chose the pork belly and bulgogi. For our appetizer, we went with the tteokboki (rice cakes). Despite how busy it was and there only being one waitress service did not lack. Our tteokboki was brought first, not for the faint it can be pretty spicy. Next followed the banchan with the types of meat we chose that we began cooking. The bulgogi was to die for. They also charged extra for all the sides, all the Korean restaurants I've been to don't charge extra for those. They only had one very nice but very overwhelmed lady working the whole restaurant. I didn't realize this place was renovated till I looked up the menu and saw an updated interior! It is much more modern welcoming than the old decor that used to frame the back of the restaurant. It's name has changed to Koreana III and you know what they say: third time's the charm! Delicious galbi and the 37.99 grill special was plentiful for two people to share. The seafood portion tasted mostly of just straight red pepper flakes as well as some of the meat but overall, a good entrée. Don't be surprised if you see some burning from your grill pan as they'll change it out for you. If you don't think your meat is cooking, check the heat dial on the Brewster pan to make sure it's turned up and if there are still issues, you may need another butane can. Staff are so friendly and willing to explain/help you out! One banchan (side dishes) I personally liked is the pickled sliced white radish. Our server said that their cubed daikon radish kimchi is good but they were out. Overall, I think it's much better after the renovation including the service, speed of service and food quality. So this is the rebirth of Koreana II at the Preston location. I heard it had undergone renovation and maybe a new owner? Not sure yet going to research a little more over dinner. First glance the restaurant has been updated with new furniture, neutral colors etc that gives it a much more modern look. They kept all the grill tables so the Korean bbqs options are still available thanks goodness!! I usually drive to Cincinnati for a good Korean bbq. Hostess is nice and friendly. Menu kinda looks the same with some spelling errors but I am willing to overlook. The food came out the spicy pork bulgogi is still amazing. The banchans tray had 6 sides. All great just wished there was more like before which was 8-9 different ones. They used a different dish to hold the banchans. The last time we were at Koreana, the service was extremely slow -- they just had one hostess/server. They were stingy with the banchan. Basically if we wanted seconds we'd have to pay. This just didn't give us a very fun experience since food was slow and no availability of banchan. We will continue to go to Kum's. read more

This is really authentic Korean Food. Kalbi tastes very good and is similar to what you'd get in LA or NY. I was craving these Korean chewy cold noodles. It's called neng-myun (literal translation Ice cold noodles). It comes in a spicy version w/ little soup and a no spice version which comes with a chilled, iced broth. I prefer the spicy one! And it tasted really really good. I dug into it so fast I only have a picture of the aftermath. Oops! But you can see how spicy it looks. Warning: you get 2 condiments with it to add per your taste. The taller version is vinegar (which you can add a couple of tablespoons of. The smaller bottle is a liquid spicy, horseradish/wasabi-like mustard. You add just a couple of drops. Koreana II is open again! Do not be led astray by the unassuming exterior. Recently remodeled, the interior is modern, sleek, and filled with delicious things to taste. Although at first glance the menu may appear limited in regards to vegetarian/vegan options, many of the items can be modified to substiture tofu for the meat, thus opening up a truly amazing world of Korean cuisine. Note - the kimchi is made with fish sauce, so unfortunately this is not an options for non-pescatarians. We finally found a great Korean BBQ! The staff were amazing and the food delicious! We ordered the vegetable soup infused with garlic and a healthy amount of broccoli, peas, carrots, zucchini, and onions. We moved on to barbecuing pork belly and beef bulgogi. The sides of pickled radishes, kimchee, fish cake, steamed bean sprouts, fresh garlic, sliced jalapenos, and bean paste paired amazingly with steamed white rice, lettuce wrap and a Yuengling. With friendly service and a family atmosphere, we will be back to this restaurant that took extra precautions during COVID with plexi-glass partitions between grilling tables, and other tables at a safe distance. read more

As nice as our hostess was and relatively quick we recieved our food, I cannot jump up to 4 stars. The food was not bad at all, in fact it was good. My biggest gripe is that the cost is quite high for what you get (portion and quality). We spent $200 and honestly, we could have used that at Lee's or even Gogi1055 for that matter....for that amount, "good" isn't enough, it needs to be *excellent*. We frequent Morton's Steakhouse so we don't mind spending money on food, but the cost needs to be financially justified. This adorable locally owned husband and wife run restaurant is top notch in my opinion. I don't need to eat here for the 'make your own' K-bbq. I just sit at a regular table and order the specialty Korean dishes off the menu. Have patience when you come as this is a two-person show and occasionally there is an extra set of hands for help. That being said this place is run like a well oiled machine and the food comes out piping hot and delicious and consistent. The bathroom is clean (which is hard to say about a lot of other places) and the actual restaurant is clean with adorable korean decorations. Also you will hear K-pop music playing while you eat. The banchan (side dishes) are always delicious, crisp and fresh. I always order the seafood pancake appetizer that comes out sizzling like a plate of fajitas! And the stone pot bibimbap, lord!!! It too comes out piping hot and stays hot. Unlike many other Korean restaurants in our area. This is legit. The gochujang is served in a squeeze bottle so you can adjust the spice to your liking. We decided to see what all the fuss is about. What a unique experience. We have never had Korean food so our waiter was super friendly and helpful to suggest some options. As you can see from the menu, a lot of things are not available. We opted for the Korean short ribs and the spicy chicken. We had no idea how the sides worked. They bring out 9 different types of traditional Korean sides. Kamichi, different radishes, sprouts, fish cake, spinach and cucumber vinegar mixture. The prices may seem high for this location but the amount of food they bring out is insane! You also get hot tea for free and it comes in a large carafe. Which I loved because the temperature in the restaurant is super cold. Service was great and food was very good! Glad we tried the traditional dishes. It didn't take long for our food to come out, but it took forever to get our check. 45 mins! But because he was trying and food was great! I kept it scored at a 4. You have to be very patient when you come in and order. The food is mediocre and the service is slow. There is only one server and one cook. This is a mom and pop restaurant. It's big and has a lot of seating of parties. If you are not sitting at a proper grill with an air vent you can ask the lady to bring one out to you and either have the option to cook it yourself or she will cook it for you but there is always the option of her cooking it in the back for you. I came for a birthday dinner and we brought our own cake and she was very nice even asking if we would like to put it in the fridge in the back until we are ready to eat and bringing out extra plastic plates and spoons for us. I have been coming here since I was a child with my family but with time and age this place becomes more slow with service but I am very patient but beware that you will not be getting the best and fastest service when coming here. read more

I ordered the Kimchi jjigae, and it did not disappoint; such good flavor, juicy, well-seasoned kimchi and the flavor was outstanding. If I were looking for something to nick pick on, I'd point at the size of the pork and fat pieces - still a very very good soup that I would enjoy again. This is my second time eating here, but first during COVID. I had the beef bulgogi which didn't disappoint. Seasoned to perfection! It was 19.99 which is pretty pricey, but was packed with flavor. Kimchi is my love. Cucumber kimchi in particular. I recommend the cucumber kimchi if you like sweet and salty with a crunch! If you've never had Korean food before, I'd recommend. Hubby and I returned to Koreana for their table-top grill last night. It made a very nice Valentine's Day dinner for us. Although Koreana does not have the prettiest interior or "ambiance", but the food and the friendly owner made up for all. We sit down at one of the tables with the big exhaust hood above it. The owner brings out a carafe of that roasted barley tea that warms your soul. I order the kalbi(short rib) and hubby orders the bulgugi(rib eye?). Then the parade of various items starts arriving at our table: first the tabletop gas grill, the meats, the tray of 11 side dishes, the lettuce and garlic slices, sauces, rice and soup. Hubby and I have only been to BBQ places with the charcoal grill and were not familiar with the gas grill. The owner lady was glad to show us how to work the gas grill. You heat it up, and just slap the already marinated meats on to the grill. Scissors are provided to cut the meats into bite size pieces. Since it is grill-it-yourself, we are able to choose meats' doneness. Those were some really juicy and tender kalbi and bulgugi! Mildly sweet and smoky, they are good by themselves or you can do what the Koreans do: take the lettuce leaf, add meat, add a bit of rice and sauce, plus garlic and/or jalapeno. It is the cutest little packet of tastiness. In fact, we liked the experience so much, we concluded that we are happy to do the grilling ourselves at the table; and still pay the same price as someone who has the grilled meats brought to the table. It could be an intimate experience for two or a rowdy fun night for a crowd as they also have larger tables that accommodate 6-8 ppl. p.s. Besides the crowd pleasing rib eye and short rib, they also have chicken, pork or a BBQ combo special. read more

The portions were smaller than expected for what you pay for, and they were a little stingy with the garnishes. We had to ask for more. We were a party of 4 and the portions should be a little more fitting to the party size. The decor is plain, nothing to write home about. But they were clean and that's all you cam ask for.
