This was a very yummy restaurant. Note it has a lot of Japanese food and sushi choices, but expect to find other asian influences. I will say this is the first Japanese restaurant I've gone to that did not serve miso soup but egg drop instead? One person in our group ordered a green curry that they said was really good. So throw in some Thai also. Sushi was really good we ordered a few rolls and shared. The service was good however we felt rushed and like we were irritating the waitress with our questions so not impressed with service. Make sure you request wasabi with your sushi as they don't bring the ginger and wasabi automatically. We would definitely go back and maybe wait staff was overwhelmed as it was quite busy. I didn't want gas station or grocery store food for dinner and I wanted take out so I decided to call for a to go order. . I know.... Sushi while land locked might not be the best idea on a Tuesday night. It tasted like and looked like grocery store sushi. Plus, the salmon tasted off so I dumped a roll without eating more. The spicy crab mix was ok. I poked it out and ate it. The jalapeño popper things were delicious. The Mongolian beef looked tasty but I didn't order that. Maybe that would be better for my next try. I wouldn't expect to find good sushi in Iowa, but Koreana pleasantly surprised me! I probably wouldn't get nigiri or sashimi here, but their rolls are good! They also have awesome homemade kimchi. Hats off to Koreana. Didn't expect this caliber of sushi in a small town. I thought we had good sushi in the Des Moines metro. This rivaled anything we have. Service was excellent. I've only been to Koreana a handful of times but the times I have gone, the food was amazing! I usually order fried rice or orange chicken but my boyfriend loves the sushi. The wait staff is a little slow. When we went, it was later in the evening so we were one of two tables there. They were very slow to ask for our order and givr us our check. Not only do you get sushi and other Asian staples loke orange chicken and Mongolian beef, but they have Asian toilets!!! The good is good, too- more so than you would expect in northeast Iowa. This is a good little hole in the wall Japanese joint. Stoped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and there was hardly anyone there. Service was very quick. I wish they offered their lunch specials on the weekend -they are only available Mon-Fri. I ordered a sushi combo which was delicious: Sunday Morning and California Roll. The Sunday Morning roll is awesome - flash fried, salmon, cream cheese and veggies with a slightly spicy mayo drizzle. Yum! I got about 16 pieces for $15ish which I consider to be a pretty good deal for a specialty roll and a more standard toll. My fiancé ordered a story fry Hunan Chicken dish which was pretty good, but could have had a better presentation - it was a pretty saucy fish served spread thin on a larger round plate with rice. All in all, a good deal for the price and a good place for a casual brunch or dinner. read more

Okay, this place is good. For being in a smaller town, I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered the crab Rangoon, dynamite roll, spicy tuna roll, and California roll, as well as two different entrees. Everything was really fresh and well made and presented very appealingly. Literally the worst sushi experience I've had. After I was seated it took me over 15 minutes to even be asked for my drink order. The server was nice enough, but literally every time he came back he thanked me for being patient, which I wasn't it was just later in the evening and I was not familiar with the area. I could try to understand if they were busy, but they were not, three other tables in the restaurant were filled. But back to the food. I had one "normal" roll, spicy crab, and the texture was so weird I couldn't even eat it. The specialty roll I got, was basically a deep friend massive rice roll with hardly any actual fish, it was awful, I mean even the edamame was bad, and that's hard to screw up. I'm hoping it was just my service because the other people around me seems to enjoy what they had. read more

This is a tough review to leave. Koreans is nothing more than a Chinese/ Japanese sushi joint. Went here expecting some Asian fusion type stuff with maybe some Korean flare. Nope. Now, the food we had was quite good, but it is stuff I can get at any Chinese restaurant. It was somewhat better quality, but certainly not unique. I also had no confidence in their cleaning efforts during covid. It appeared that they were just using a dirty wash rag to wipe down tables like they would do any other day of the week. We got napkins and used t hff e liquid from the hand sanitizer to clean our table. We did not get sushi, but everything we saw go by looked very good. Again, nice chinese restaurant. Raising my last review from 1 to 3. Maybe a 3.5 given that we aren't in a cosmopolitan area. Food was pretty good tonight. Servers still don't truly know what they are doing or the menu, but it was a little quicker, The computer hasn't worked the last two times in which means it hasn't worked well in a long time (or they use it as an excuse). Dishes are slow to come out of the kitchen and servers forget things they promised to bring. ------------ Perhaps the least attentive service I've had any any of my dining experiences. Other diners were all looking at each in disbelief it was so bad. Food is okay but nothing to earn major accolades. Sushi is okay ( note: imitation crab is used). Like all restaurants on the decline, they raise prices to recoup the loss. Not only that, but portions become smaller. My wife and I called in two orders of Vegetable Fried Rice for takeout. Then the Sunrise roll was soaked in sauce its disgusting. The menu states the sauce is "drizzled." Don't let its location deceive you; Koreana is a rural Iowan gem and my sushi staple. Despite being on the pricier side, their dishes are exquisite and compensate for the cost. If you're apprehensive about which roll to choose, the Ocean Sunday roll is in my highest regards. read more

For Asian cuisine in northeast Iowa, this place far exceeded our expectations. We had the monkey brains (which are stuffed mushrooms), orange chicken and general tso chicken and it was all fantastic! Service was slowed a bit due to low staffing with COVID (and a decent number of other guests) but still enjoyable and very friendly. Each call lasted 5 seconds, each time they hung up. Called later just to see if they would still be serving, told me to wait another 30 minutes, proceeded to try hanging up on me again, then left the phone off the line and walked away from it. The food was ok for not being near a coast. The seaweed salad tasted like it was from a can. And when we ordered desert (green tea ice cream) it was covered with freezer burn. The mongolian beef is a 5 hands down as it is a perfect mix of Chinese with a mix of Korean marinated beef (top quality no less)...skip the chicken teriyaki as it is meh...this place isn't cheap either for a sleepy little down nestled in the heart of Norwegians. I wanted to update this review. I have been back twice with friends since the original review. The owners must have taken the reviews on the poor wait staff to heart. Both recent visits had really fast, attentive wait staff. Huge upgrade there. We ordered the Monkey Brains appetizer, which is some really tasty comfort food. Very good. On both return visits, the sushi presentation was great and the fish was fresh and of the proper temperature. The maki was well rolled and quite good. I'm a fan now. read more
