i've been on the hunt for some authentic korean food since i moved from California. Koreana literally made me so happy, as I felt like I was transported back to restaurants of k-town LA. what we got: chadol (10/10 yums): such a huge portion and was super fresh. the cut of meat was a leaner part, so it wasn't as "melt in your mouth", but you could tell it's still a great cut of meat. samgyeopsal (10/10 yums): this was a thin cut of meat and had the perfect amount of fat to meat ratio. I usually don't prefer thinly sliced pork over thinly sliced beef, but at this place, I definitely did. it was just such a good cut of meat and paired really well with all the side dishes. mul naengmyeon (10/10 yums): i always find this a standard order at any kbbq restaurant, and it was great! the noodles were chewy and paired well with the broth. they give you a bunch of side dishes and on the weekends, they give a braised beef banchan which was AMAZING. be aware that for kbbq to be ordered, you must pick AT LEAST 2 cuts of meat. this comes with a soy bean paste soup (one per person), and ended up being a lot of food (we had leftovers). also, i noticed that some cuts of meat had fried rice served after (i'm guessing it's probably the marinated ones), so if that is something you're interested, be sure to ask! the service was great and they cooked the meat for us. honestly, i see myself going back pretty soon, as it genuinely made me feel back at home. read more

Really impressed with the quality of the Kalbi I've usually gone for AYCE bbq, but this time we tried Koreana. Our choice was validated by several of our Korean friends. The day we went they had some ac trouble so they had portable ACs throughout. Very very busy for a weekend dinner, every table was occupied. But the staff was awesome, took really good care of us. The side dishes were fantastic especially the stewed rib ends, made for really good fried rice at the end when they brought out some rice and used the rest of the sides for a wonderful rice. What a fabulous experience at a Korean bbq. It's been awhile since we had done a non-AYCE Korean bbq place and this was really good. The service was top notch and the food was premium quality, you could tell better than AYCE places. The meats were delicious and high quality. The side dishes were good too, they even had a beef tendon as a side dish- that alone could serve as a entree it was perfectly cooked and good flavor. Apparently that is only available as a side dish on the weekends. The service was phenomenal, while Korean restaurants sometimes can have a stereotypical of bad service, the service here was phenomenal, over the top. read more

My Korean friend brought a group of us gals here and made sure to tell us this is the only place she and her family will eat Korean BBQ in the burbs. That alone already told me we were in for a treat. I've had Korean bbq quite a few times, but I am by no means a master. I will say I was thoroughly impressed by the quality and offerings at Koreana. The space was recently updated with new grills and tables, and I noticed how the whole restaurant seemed very clean upon arrival. The banchan were so good I could have made a meal out of the sides. We ordered the Tteokbokki and a sample meat platter. Between 6 people it was plenty of food, and we were stuffed to the brim upon leaving. I enjoyed their version of Tteokbooki; it was spicy but still had a hint of sweetness. All the meat we ordered was deliciously seasoned and fresh. This place is AWESOME! I came here with my partner for our 5 year anniversary and I was not disappointed! We over-ordered food and had leftovers that were so delicious for days and days. The Ttebokki was to die for, scallion pancakes were so good, and all of the meats from our combo was delicious! The bulgogi wasn't too sweet, galbi just right, and everything else was mouth-watering. The staff helped us multiple times through the night when we had too much charcoal on the grill, or just generally looked overwhelmed with how much food we got! I would like this to be kept as secret honestly. The unmarinated kalbi is our favourite...well marbled and good quality! They use diff grills for diff meats and depends on what you order, there would be kimchi fried rice at the end :D They always have this super yummy kalbijjim kinda side dish...i had to exercise a lot of self control so not to overeat this side dish! Don't get marinated meat, not because it is bad, but because their unmarinated kalbi is a must get. Also the only Korean bbq that knows how to really treat mountain tripe. I absolutely love this place. All of it. The service, the food and the atmosphere. It's tucked away off Salem in an unassuming little strip mall. It has two rooms with one that's almost all 4 tops and the other has large tables. Sometimes when i go into new places I get concerned I'm going to look or sound stupid and I hate asking questions. But in this case, questions were welcomed and I definitely did not feel that way. We got the B1 (I think? The one that had several meats) and also got the pork belly. They indicated the portion was for one person and as you can see on my pictures - it is a lot! There's also little, i guess what I would call, enhancers. There was lettuce and chili paste so you can make lettuce wraps if you want. There was also beef tips (so freaking good), Kim chi, jalepeno, fish cakes and sprouts. I am pretty basic so i stuck with the meat and the rice. They came around and guided us as we were cooking and eating and I'm thankful for that because we were newbies and all. Came here for a coworkers birthday dinner last minute. Last minute reservations are available at this place as well as walk ins. They have parking outside of the restaurant so that is a plus. We went around 6 and that was the perfect timing to arrive before everyone came in for dinner time. The owner, his wife and servers were very nice and even helped us cooked the meat. We had the combo platter along with pork belly and marinated beef that came with the fried rice where they cooked in front of us. Everything tasted amazing as well as the assorted small dishes. Koreana is a great spot for dinner. They can handle both large and small groups. We had a group of 9 and were easily accommodated. The waiters distributed the orders along the table well to ensure everyone was able to get to everything easily. The table did get overwhelmingly tight at a point when everything came out but we ate our way through it. The waiters were kind enough to assist in the cooking when it lagged behind and changed out the grills for fresh ones about halfway through the meal. We just about ordered one of everything with the group of our size. So I feel like I've had a good tour of the menu items in that one visit.
