I have food sensitivities to quite a few foods, which makes going out to eat a bit of a nightmare. I had been busy all day and had not gotten in any food in my system since about 08:00 and it was now 20:00. I found Koriente and they have an order-ahead-for-pick-up system. I got a nice ahi steak with brown rice, lemonade and an iced rooibos tea. The food was excellent though I should have asked for a tiny bit of salt (I can't do soy so Asian food has been struck pretty much from my diet ):). Parking is atrocious around the area. Lots of narrow streets and good party vibe. I had to park at the gas station to go run in and pick up quickly. My food was ready on the shelves behind me and the people at the counter were masked and behind Plexiglass. I love supporting and won't do chain restaurants and this place is quaint and quick, with healthy food to boot. Next time I'm in Austin, I'll be back! read more

This vegetarian recommends the shiitake tofu bowl! It's a vegan dish of tofu and mushrooms in a miso-soy sauce over a bed of spring greens. Add avocado! The menu was confusing at best because it is not clear that you can mix, match, substitute or eliminate. Then the cashier seemed impatient with our basic questions like "what type of noodles do you have?" The three stars are mainly due to the taste of the food which was flavorful. I had the shiitake tofu and my friend had the obake bowl with shrimp. I also had edamame. The shiitake tofu was very good but had a measly two pieces of tofu. The obake bowl was delicious and flavorful. The edamame was hot and seasoned well with salt. One last word related to this restaurant. This is truly my favorite place to eat in Austin. I have been here countless times and have never had a less than stellar experience. to begin with, the staff is always super nice. a lot of the time they will give you complimentary things with your food! last time, I was kindly given free added garlic on my noodles. other times, free bubble tea! they also offer complimentary miso soup for everyone that is of very good quality! their menu is very reasonably priced, and every time i go our food always comes very quick and hot. I used to work a ton in downtown Austin before the pandemic. Since then I moved locations all around the city, but boy am I so happy to be back down south. Koriente was beyond caring and loving to the service workers in downtown Austin. They would happily provide us with some delicious bubble tea for free. That was always rememberable, although I no longer work in the downtown area, the staff is always consistent with their service. Their food is phenomenal. I am addicted to their rice medallions since day one. And yes their bubble tea is off the chain. Vegan perspective- Can't stop grinning about this eating experience! I got off the plane and this was my first bite in Austin and I am so happy I came! The place was buzzing on a Thursday afternoon and the cashier was so awesome at handling the orders and totally took me under his wing on vegan recommendations and what extras would elevate my meal. I ended up getting the rice medallion sauté with tofu and broccoli as add ons. Getting it done spicy was also a great recommendation as it was so tasty and not overly hot. The flavors were excellent, veggies were fresh and I was totally satisfied! On weekdays they also have free salad and pickles which were good. I didn't try the free miso soup but it is vegan! We swung by to get some dinner and placed an order inside on this Saturday night. Food was ready in just a few minutes, so my impression was this is like an Asian fast food spot. That said, the food was pretty decent. We got a couple things of miso to go with it. The japchae is pretty good - we had it with chicken, and the portion was very filling. Flavors are good in this dish. I also got the Obake bowl (B), but was given the rice one on accident instead. Still, it was reasonable, I just wasn't that big a fan of the rice. The beef was seasoned well, but the veggies were just barely cooked. Didn't stop me from finishing it all though! Prices here are good and everything hit the spot. The location left something to be desired as we didn't even get out of the car before we were hit up for cash by pedestrians. The quality of the chicken in the Obake Bowl was lower than I would have liked. It looked like the chicken had been hacked in to pieces with no regard to removing the fat. I assumed the chicken would be white meat, but I believe it was dark meat. It could have been my fault to assume what I was getting without asking. The man taking orders was very friendly. Even though the restaurant was crowded, we found a table pretty easily. There is also seating outside in the back that seemed pleasant and quiet. A man named Ramiro took the order and he just set the mood for what was to come. He made recommendations for our dishes,he made jokes, there was no pressure and the miso soup was free!!! Total I think we spent $25 with two dishes and 2 drinks plus $5 tip. Then you just go find a spot and sit down. The food came quick and it was such a treat!! I absolutely love this restaurant! It's one of my favorite places to go with friends because it has a chill atmosphere and is really reasonably priced. The people are so nice and informative. If you have any questions about the menu, they'll answer in a really helpful way and explain things on the menu if needed. They'll even recommend things to order or add on. One of my favorite things they offer is free, unlimited, delicious miso soup!! And then, I always order the japchei (a bowl of clear sweet potato noodles and sautéed veggies) because it's so delicious, and I usually add an egg. The environment is such a friendly and comfortable place, it's one of the reasons I keep coming back. The food here is described as Korean Fusion and it's definitely something everyone needs to try at least once. Not only are the dishes incredibly tasty, healthy and fresh, they are all super affordable. Koriente has all of the ingredients to literally put me in the best mood; definitely food for the soul. Re: the reviews noting the homeless population nearby, that is correct. Never been bothered other than by my conscience for not doing more to help those people and the problems that put them on the street.
