Fish special was terrible-- the flounder was mushy and very few pieces (supposed to be pan fried) ; the "yukon gold " potatoes were just chunks that were still raw and so were the vegetables raw. When I complained about the potatoes, they came back when were were almost finished and said they threw out all the potatoes and would give us risotto. We just took the risotto home. I've been back to give them a second chance and dinner has been very good. I have not ordered the steak but have stuck to the Italian dishes. I had Pizza tonight and for me this is the best pizza I've had in Wilmington. I spent three years living in Sicily so I love good brick oven pizza and this place does a great job. The crust is outstanding and very old world. My wife orders the gluten free and says it's the best she has had. I like the g to this place sauce a lot. Robert the manager contacted me after I wrote the first review and I appreciate that. This place has an amazing wine list and Two of their selections have become my personal favorites. The food here is amazing. I love that it is a locally owned restaurant which gives me that extra reason to eat here. They also buy at least 10% of their food locally in ILM. All of the dishes I've had here are great but I'd really recommend the pizza (it's wood oven baked). Atmosphere is important when going to a restaurant like this and they are spot on. Ate here for Sunday brunch. It was excellent! Service from Hannah was top notch, the food was delicious, and the dining room was very clean. My wife and I have been going to this restaurant since it opened (used to go once a week, at least), and the food is pretty good. Quite honestly it was better when they first opened, in our opinion. I questioned the"acting manager" about the lack of toppings that Used to be" on my favorite pizza.. and he said "It's the same". I just looked at him and blinked... I stopped in a while ago for lunch with a friend from out of town and the service was outstanding! She has a walker and while we were approaching the door the young man that was cooking the food dropped everything he was doing,ran from the back and held the door open for us while the servers were busy.I know it doesn't seem like much but it is ,not everyone would do that, and I wouldn't expect them to.The food was good and the server was very knowledgeable and kind. Had lunch; GREAT service (the GM took care of me as FOH staff had gone home, good food, like the lay-out big screen behind the bar, nicely decorated, outdoor seating. The fresh bread is GREAT with a very tasty take on a basil pesto dipping sauce (good spice to it and TONS of flavor). Tomato Basil Soup was a special and it was finished with some fresh olive oil drissle and croutons. I would have prefferred it to be a little more reduced, but it had good flavor and texture. Enjoyed the Caprese salad; fresh and flavorful tomatoes, a good mozzarella cheese and basil, the plate was finished with an olive oil drissle with balsamic. Came together very well and well presented. Took one of the brick oven pizzas home and put it in the fridge. Several hours later and cold it was FANTASTIC!!! Tomato/shrimp and fresh roasted red pepper all came together very well - I'd order this again JUST to try it hot and see how much better it will be! GM took very good care of me; good interaction and positive recommendations. Satisfied my pet peeve as he kept my iced tea filled at all times without being overbearing. Insisted I try the bread (I was going to pass), and he was spot on; it was worth having. Did enjoy the espresso too! I like the open kitchen, and really look forward to trying dinner. I had a wonderful lunch at Kornerstone Bistro. The dining is casual but elegant with outside seating available too. Service was impeccable, the menu was very appetizing. I had the grilled shrimp wrap with aioli which was terrific. The side pasta salad (with pesto was amazing). My friend's gourmet pizza was also fantastic; the crust is better than any I've had locally and the toppings selection is terrific. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Kornerstone. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the wait staff friendly and efficient, and the food prepared very well and served in a pleasing manner. My wife had the Beef Bourguignon which was tender enough to cut with her fork. I had the Salmon Florentine Risotto which had a burst of great flavors. Both were very well prepared. Then we topped it off with bread pudding for dessert, whoohoo!!. The only bad thing about that dinner was stepping on the scale this morning. But it was a very enjoyable experience. STILL a great place to eat... I read the negative review and thought, Wow, I like that place a lot, I wonder what has happened so I went back for lunch today. It is kind of funny since my French onion soup was cold too....but I sent it back and it returned hot and delicious. I chose the prime rib sandwich and it was sooooo good...my husband tasted it and ordered one to go for later. I have been going there for years and never have been disappointed. I spoke with the manager about the soup and other issues and he was genuinely interested..my report is that the menu has a lot to offer, the food is always tasty and the wait staff is VERY helpful and kind. Can u have a bad day at any restaurant? sure -but I have never been disappointed with the Kornerstone and as I said at the beginning it is STILL a great place to eat! Just for the record, I am a 74 year old grandmother and I report what I like and don't like at a restaurant because I hope it will help others with their eating choices-this one gets and deserves the 5 stars. read more

I read a lot of the reviews and am surprised that some were so disappointed. One said that the prices are high for frozen food. I can't speak to what this person ordered, but I know in my experience the food tastes fresh and cooked well. We've been to their Sunday brunch, to dinner and to lunch at Kornerstone Bistro and have never been disappointed. I especially like their spaghetti and meatballs. We taken out-of-town visitors there and they've also like the food served. The owner had posted a profile of his culinary experience on the wall toward the restrooms and I read it. He has a well rounded profile in the culinary arts and especially in Italian food. I'm sure some of the ingredients available here in Wilmington don't match up to ingredients in some locations where there's a large Italian population, but still the food is fresh and cooked well. I wrote the review below after last nights experience (2 stars overall review). Let me just say that I'm totally convinced that Aiden (the manager) completely changed my mind. He actually called to apologize for our experience.... Who else does that? I can honesty say that I've never had the general manger call me after writing a bad review. Folks, this is a restaurant that really cares about what a customer thinks. I still think that our food was not to par (others in our party thought their food was fantastic) but knowing that the general manager actually called back to apologize only means one thing.... He really care. You don't see that anywhere around here. I was really disappointment with my experience last night but after my family member received a call from the general manager I can't help but think that this restaurant is really doing something right. It's amazing how a call can really change a perception on a place. Aiden is the reason why I've changed my mind and I've decided to definitely come back. Any restaurant that does that deserves a 5 star. I'm definitely coming back Unfortunately I'm going to have to write a bad review on this place. What a shame. I will caveat what I'm writing with saying that I wrote a good review before this one but due to today's experience I will highly discourage everyone from even thinking about eating here. My family and I ordered 3 prime ribs tonight. All of them were way overcooked. We return one of them only because the other 2 customers were too hungry to wait. 45 mins later and we are still waiting for the food to come back. We overheard the waiter say that the cooks didn't care about the food and that the customer just needed to wait. What an unprofessional place. I asked the waiter what the heck was staking so long and she said that she didn't know. Service was horrible. The food was ok and that's the only reason why I'm giving it 2 stars. Food is always good. Nice bar area. I enjoy going there - especially on live music nights and on half price wine nights. Wait staff is friendly...some are in training so may need to be patient with them or let manager know if issue as they want you to be pleased. Will return here often. Had a pre New Years Eve dinner with 4 other couples, we were sat just inside of the door and it was cold outside so we froze each time anybody entered or left. Our food was cold and missing ingredients, the orders were mixed up, service was slow and checks at the end were all wrong. I don't write a lot of reviews so this won't be eloquent. We found this little gem a few months ago and have been back a number of times. This is locally owned and you can actually still meet the owners! The owner is himself an experienced executive chef and the food shows it. I'm not huge on chips or fries but the homemade chips with blue cheese are amazing and the mussels are phenomenal! I have only had one experience where I didn't like the wine I choose but otherwise this has been a flawless experience after over a dozen visits. Worth a visit! read more

Unfortunately we chose Fathers Day to visit Kornerstone. As always Sunday Brunch was the course for the day and the following events soured our experience: -when we arrived with a reservation for noon we stood behind a party of 4 (as we were) with no reservation. They were seated immediately while we were told to wait. Only after 15 minutes were we seated and that was outside in bright sunshine in a table just a few feet of the road with no umbrella. - food as usual was fine but clearly the kitchen and food staff had trouble keeping up as half the stations were empty each time we went to the Buffet. -some of people dining we're rude.....a man reaching over my shoulder to grab something off the Buffet without waiting in line (he was appalled when I suggested he wait his turn) to the table next to us where the women were cursing loudly throughout their meal. - I ordered the "Fresh Squeezed" OJ but the waitress said they had to run next door (to Harris Teeter) to get more...store bought OJ passed off at several dollars a glass as fresh squeezed. We have been to Kornerstone often in the past because we live in Porters Neck but we will wait until the Famous Toastery opens there even if it means a bit of a wait. Sorry Kornerstone, the end is near if you don't step up your game. read more
