After unsuccessfully trying to reinstall Windows 7 on my HP laptop (wasted $50.00 on HP support not knowing how little they know) I decided to drive from Berkeley down to SmartTech where my son had previously had a good experience. The issue was a weird one which stumped a seasoned "system recoverer" such as myself. Art was able to solve the unusual problem and got my laptop to the factory installed state which is what needed to get done. I cracked my laptop screen and asked another computer repair shop to fix it, but they only took a deposit for inspection/estimate and never ordered the parts or called me back. My friend recommended SmartTech, so I met Artem who happened to be very nice and knowledgeable person. He quickly ordered the required screen and when it arrived he fixed my laptop almost in no time. Besides, he charged for labor and parts almost $100 less than if ordered the job from another repair shop. I know computers don't last forever, so when mine started slowing down and acting weird, I was expecting to have to bite the bullet and replace it with another one. However, a friend told me this company he'd used would check out my computer for free and tell me if mine could be saved. He said that they would also be able to provide knowledgeable guidance if I really needed to purchase a replacement. Frankly, I expected them to recommend replacing it. When I arrived I noticed that they have a big Yelp banner on the window, I walked in and spoke with Ray about the problem and showed him a picture of what the error was, he was up front with me and explained that if the hard drive was bad that he would not be able to save my data. I told him to do his best to save my data. The next day he texted me with a quote and said that he would be able to fix it and save my data. I told him to fix it. About 3 hours later he texted me again and said to come on by and pick it up. Now when I arrived he didn't just give me my computer and send me on my way, he sat me down and explained that I have 3 different options to save my data just in case the hard drive or computer crashes in the future. He also said that if I'm not sure how to back up the hard drive or need help with anything to call him and he would walk me through it.
