I find it kind of a waste of money now that other locations offer some of the same things on certain days now. It's sad that the other kozos know the Kaneohe store has a bad reputation back and forth. I only feel they have good ingredients thanks to the name of the brand. Not the management. - over all not worth it anymore unless I really need the taste and can't get to the one in waikik. The bowl that everyone likes is now $10 for less fish than ever before. So I've recently learned that there are 2 owners of Kozo Sushi, and that the Kaneohe location is definitely worth the drive ! Came here with some friends a few days ago... I was wondering why we were driving so far out of town to grab some sushi, but as it turns out I've found the location for the most delicious spicy ahi bowls !! Parking was not a problem since Kozo Sushi shares a huge lot with neighboring stores. The nice lady working the cashier was informative and funny. I always appreciate smiling workers. :) Now on to the spicy ahi bowl........... Mmmmmm! The ahi was finely grounded negitoro style, and they added the perfect amount of tobiko to balance the ahi. What amazed me was their spicy sauce that they used; it was simply delicious ! It wasn't extremely spicy, but it still had enough kick for my taste buds. Only downfall for Kozo Sushi to me was that they didn't give us any napkins for our takeout sushi......... :( But other than that, everything was great !! read more

I love Kozo Sushi. I always get the spicy ahi bowl. Just had one yesterday as a matter of fact. We drove out to Kaneohe from town just for a spicy ahi bowl :D. That's how good it is. I get my car serviced at Nissan across the street and whenever I do so, I always walk over to Kozo to pick up some spicy ahi instead of waiting around for my car. It's pretty big and only $6.95 so it's a good price. Definitely worth the drive and the money. One of the best places for spicy ahi bowls on the island. They're super fast and cheap and yummy. The only downside for me is that the Kozo Sushis in town are owned by a different owner so when I have that craving for their spicy ahi bowls, I only have the option of Kaneohe or Hawaii Kai. read more

Used to be our favorite sushi place on the windward side of Oahu. Sushi here always was inexpensive yet delicious. Every time we came here to hike we would stop at this place. As far as the decor, there is not much to talk about, but the customer service is great. Unfortunately the quality of the food deteriorated. Our food wasn't that great today. Love Kozo sushi and have eaten at different locations on the island. Called in my order and when I told the woman, "dragon maki no lettuce" she replied there isn't lettuce in our dragon maki. I was confused because that is my order at every other Kozo and to confirm I was ordering the right thing had her list what was in it, the ingredients sounded right so confirmed my order. I apologized for the confusion and told her that I normally order from Pearlridge location. She told me that this Kozo had a different menu, well what she didn't mention was that they have a whole different style of sushi. The tempura was as skinny as a pencil and the spicy ahi was a ground down pink paste! The stuff in premade boxes at Times or 7-11 is 10xs better than this stuff. Aloha, Chris and the rest of the staff are very professional and friendly. I ordered a Pikake and Orchid Platter on Halloween Day and both were a hit! I had ordered by phone and spoken to Chris a couple of days before and she was very helpful and kind. No credit card is required. My platters were ready on time and beautiful. Plenty if utensils, napkins and shoyu are provided. Wasabi is offered in the sushi or in the side. After I left the store I got hungry and came back for an Ahi Special and Chris prepared it while I paid. It was Delicious! Everyone enjoyed the sushi I brought and there was enough to take home. We had a promising start. I recall hearing a faintly mumbled 'irashaimasu' from behind the counter. Being the bubbly person I am I reply 'hello!' to the two girls that greeted us. No eye contact, no smile, no nothing. I knew I was craving sushi but I hadn't made up my mind yet on what kind of sushi I wanted. One of the girls let me know (keep in mind that no one met me up front at the cash registers, they stayed behind the counters in the back) that I can order when I'm ready and I thanked her. I realized that I wanted a to pick up a few hand rolls including a chicken katsu hand roll, I didn't see it on the menu so I asked the girl if they offer such item. She replied 'no' - she didn't even offer any other suggestions from the menu. At this point my cravings for sushi became overpowered with feelings of irritation/confusion. I figured that if they couldn't give me the time of day then why bother ordering and spending my hard earned money there...major RED FLAGS @ WINDWARD CITY KOZO SUSHI! Went to Kozo yesterday evening right as they were going to close (Which is 5 o clock Wednesday to Saturday) and was greeted right away. The employees were friendly and so efficient. I love their shrimp tempura roll (they use real Tempura and not those skinny frozen ones) Ordered rolls , Shrimp Ebi ,and cone sushi. It came out super fast and it tasted so fresh!! We've been coming here for years to get cheap and good party platters! This is a really tiny place but the staff is nice and the sushi is fair value considering the price. Our last visit yesterday, on Fathers Day, yielded a platter that was a big hit. However the fish was so thinly sliced it was unbelievable. I don't know how they do it!! Trying to cut costs I'm sure. However it is a solid 3 stars and I recommend it for cheap style sushi trays. Just have realistic expectations. read more

The fish isn't the greatest fish you'll have, but for $8, considering you get, 15 pieces of sushi, it is totally worth it. Their sushi is much like any other place, but I think what makes it so welcoming, and makes me want to come back, is the service. The sweetest old lady works at the register, and makes sure you're happy with what you have. Anyways, so the food was good. Comes with two cone sushi, two maki, six pieces of hosomaki (2 cucumber, 2 ahi, 2 takuan), tamago, ebi, ahi, ika, and salmon. All for $8. Exactly what makes me coming back for more. The wait usually isn't long, depending on how busy it is, but I'd say a good 5 minutes, rarely ever more than that. But if you don't want to wait, it's better to call ahead. Parking isn't bad, since it's a big lot, so I wouldn't worry too much about that, but the shopping center can get a little hectic, parking wise that is. read more

While the prices aren't Costco cheap, the quality of the hand rolls and the ingredients are great. This is your standard Kozo Sushi - it's no Sasabune but works great for a good, cheap lunch.

Today was the first time eating at this sorry excuse for a fast food sushi, and I use that term VERY loosely, restaurant (another word I use very loosely). Calling this the mcdonalds of sushi is am injustice to the hormone injected, ammonia soaked beef byproducts mcdonalds serves. Anyone rating kozo above one or two stars has no idea, or care, about what real sushi is. The only place worse is ninja sushi since an office mate got violently ill off their rotten fish. I got the Aji set, a miso soup, and a hot tempura soba. The dashi for the soba was luke warm and when I added the mushy, overcooked noodles to it, well u can figure out what happened. The soup was like drinking tempura tsuyu (undiluted dipping sauce). Needless to say it sits on my table like the vomit it induces. The Aji set was equally nauseating. It maguro was powdery. The salmon was leaner than any I've ever seen and nearly unrecognizeable. The tako had a fishiness that it shouldn't. The Saba was old and u could tell just by looking at it. The Ebi was more opae than ebi. And the ika did not have the cruch one would expect. Anemic does not even begin to describe the portion of fish, but there were copious amounts of bland, mushy rice. My bf had a modified dynamite roll (BBQ chips on the outside? Really?). He added cucumber inside and left out the chips garnish. The spicy ahi felt like it had been through a meat grinder and was about as spicy as tap water. There was wasabi mayo all over the place and still no bite. The miso came in a powder from a packet and a hot water tap. The least anyone could do is fake it and put that whole operation in the back. All that came to $22. I'd have been more satisfied eating $22 of anything else since nearly half of it sits on my table taunting me about my horrible decision. If u want cheap sushi go to Genki. I'd u want real sushi start at Kahala sushi or the Pearl City version at the very least. For the real stuff: Imanstei, izakaya nonbei (moi sashimi then gave them fry the bones!), or kuniyo. read more

I still love this place. Its not a sushi bar and its not what i would under any circumstances called authentic Japanese food. Its sushi rolls (or thats the only thing I'd dare to order) cheap, fast, and pretty good. I am in love with their California rolls. I buy like 5 to go and will take off to the beach. Its a snack. And yes there are much much better sushi places but Kozo has been around since the early 90's for a reason because its consistent and delicious cheap sushi and normally you don't get those two together. I have been coming here since I was a lil child, My Mother use to work here & was the manger for years. People thought she was the owner : ) I miss this place since I practically lived here, this store was my second home coz my Mother worked so much. My Favorites & still is the ume roll/maki, crab roll, spam musubi, ahi & tako poki : ) omg was good! My Mom use to make my girls a plane sushi roll (nothing in it but rice) My Mother took pride in her rice & the making of everything & that she had past down to the workers there now. Since I have left home & moved to the mainland & have traveled to Guam & Germany I have NEVER found a sushi place that the just the rice alone tasted as good as Kozo's. I dont think anyone could beat it. unless I go to Japan, but we will see. The workers there were & still are beautiful & amazing people that can make some awesome sushi : ) I cant wait till the next time I go back home to visit so I can kill my insane craving for some REAL sushi. BTW I was a lil confused that there is two check ins for Kozo but this is the real one with the right number. I was a little confused at the low rating in the reviews. Windward City Kozo is always yummy. I've never been mistreated or found them closed early. They did just had a long closure due to Windward City having construction, and it was hard waiting for the reopening. We ordered takeout there yesterday, and are planning on going today too. My 2 year old loves the ahi special. I always order my platters from them too and since it's father's day that's where I'm off to. It's a hole in the wall that's been around since I was in high school, and I love it. Mostly young kids on staff but they are always polite and cheerful. The food is not fine restaurant quality but it is fresh, tastes good, and is well prepared. read more

I recently moved and my usual spot for a spicy ahi bowl is now out of the way. This place already had several people raving about their spicy ahi bowls so I figured it give it a try. So glad I did! This is gonna be my new go to spot! Paid $9.41 w/tax, pretty normal price for a bowl. The spicy ahi sauce flavor is great and I enjoyed the nori garnishing on top. Don't expect loads of spicy ahi in this bowl though. It is a single layer over a decent amount of rice. What I especially like despite that is the seemly good quality of fish used-- I'm definitely a quality over quantity person any day so I'd say this is a plus. They make the best spicy ahi bowl on the island. I love that they use sushi rice and the ahi is so finely chopped it just melts in gour mouth. Love that spicy mayo and the furikaki they put on. They really do a good job and the presentation is always nicd. Pricier than Food Land's spicy ahi bowl nd Kozo's some how goes so fast if I'm hungry (I guess its easy to scarf down lol) but dann its good.
