I've been here twice in the past couple weeks and I have vowed never to return. Both times I went with the intention of once and for all outfitting my new-to-me bike with all the accessories it needs (fenders, a rack, a basket, a pump, lights,) and both times I was turned away by very unhelpful repairmen. Perhaps it's my fault for expecting to get some un-urgent service done during the first few nice days of spring, or perhaps for expecting that the repairmen would take as much care with my new-to-me bike as I do. In any case, I did expect to be treated with some respect--I was, after all, planning on spending quite a bit of money there. But by their dismissive attitude, it seems they didn't want my money, so I'll take my business elsewhere in the future. The first time I went there they denied me the free tune-up that the bike had on it since it was purchased originally from Kozy's. The free tune-ups, apparently, are only good from October through February, and the second week in March doesn't count, even if I bought the bike from someone on Craigslist and didn't know the rules. I left discouraged, and without any of the things that I came for. The second time I went there to get a rack and fenders installed (a simple install that I now plan to do myself), the repairman told me I couldn't expect to get any of the things I wanted done in any reasonable amount of time. And, when I asked if they had any extra brackets for my old rack so I could put it on myself, he said they didn't, and that no one ever needs any extra brackets because they come with the racks when you buy them. When I went to Rapid Transit on North Ave. with the same inquiry, they pulled out two full drawers of brackets for me to look through, and only charged $1 in the tip jar for the one I chose. Long story short: if you want help with your bike, don't go here. Their accessories are also quite expensive. read more

Went to this place because they're close to work, despite previous bad experiences and warnings from coworkers. I had a flat tire and needed a simple repair. Elementary, right? I got about 2 miles away and it deflated. When i WALKED the bike back and took the tire in, they said it wasn't their fault, it was a puncture. Real Reason; They never checked the inside of the tire to make sure there was nothing remaining to re-puncture the tire. They wouldn't cover a new tube or the labor. Luckily my local shop, Urban Cycle helped me out. They were cheaper, faster, more friendly, and more reliable. I'm not sure how these guys stay open, there prices are some of the highest in the city, their retail department is horrible, and they can't even change a tire properly. I originally went to Kozy's Desplaines shop and got Giant Dash 3. It was a beauty however I am leaning too forward and decided to swap to Specialized Vita Elite 2011.I ended up in the Erie branch and I have enjoyed the customer service so much.Everyone in that shop is just plain friendly. You could tell they are very busy because of large volume of customers however I did not even feel neglected because while they are taking care of another customer they make sure they acknowledge you every now and again and points you to the right section of the store. Look for Luis Iniguez if you are looking for a bike.He is the guy that gives you the best recommendation at your price range.Genuine,very knowledgeable,approachable,friendly and yet very professional. I have been to too many bike shops in Chicago and staff are generally friendly but not as genuine as this guy. I highly respect his opinion as he seems to listen to your goals and needs as well as your price range and then gives you recommendations. He made it feel like I was buying a $5thou bike the way how listened to my concerns and preferences. I had such a wonderful experience with this shop that I decided to wait for my bike for another 10-12days in back order when I know I could get it faster somewhere else because Luis had such a great customer service ethics. I also got a 4year service plan that covers 4 tune ups from Kozy's which I think is really great. I hope Paul Kozy will be reading this. This location stocks a lot of bikes and is pretty big and slick. Kozy's very-detailed website indicated they had a bike (on sale at a nice discount) I was looking for, and it was at this location. That turned out not to be true, but the sales guy who helped us looked high and low trying to track it down. And when it proved unfindable within the store, he called the other location that had it and put it on hold for me. In the meantime, I test-rode the current-year model for fit and general feel (they lent me a helmet and pointed out the least-congested route). I purchased a 2-year old bike on Craigslist, which was originally purchased from Kozy's. I brought it by to fill the tires with more air and had an extremely cool guy, Moses, offer to help me. He patiently adjusted the bike seat and basket, showed me how to use the air and he waited while I took a quick ride to test his adjustments. Awesome, attentive staff - I'll be back! read more

I went here because it was recommended to me by several friends and I was pleased with my experience. I know very little about bikes, so I just came in and told them I wanted a bike for commuting. I stopped by last week and today to get my tires fixed (one was a flat and I wanted to get a set). The repair staff ended up being extremely helpful and sensitive to my wallet (since I am on a tight budget). I ended up getting tubes elsewhere (for price) but regardless they were extremely courteous even though I just bought tires there (Continental Ultra Sport 700x25c) along with labor. They filled up my tires up to the right PSI too. I was thankful they didn't push other purchases (IE: a full tune up, tire truing, etc.) Eventually I need new brakes and I'd like to get toe straps, which I know exactly where I'll go. Their gear is a bit pricey, but have had good luck on multiple occasions with the repair shop. Most recently I had a tricky brake problem which was handled without a problem on the same day with good follow-up, all for only $10. Can't beat that. read more

I used a Living Social coupon on 2/15/2013 and I'm glad I did since I needed a chain and new cassette installed. I couldn't be happier with the price, AND they cleaned my crusty, dirty, caked-on-grime/dirt bike to top it off. I bought this bike at REI and riding it out the door the brakes squeaked and the chained started jumping off or onto another gear while riding. I took it back for the 6-month free tuneup and I don't think REI did anything other than lubricate the chain because the same problems persisted. I even TOLD the REI technician about the problems. His reply? "Maybe the brake disc is warped". Warped after barely riding it for 6 months AND storing it inside? Riiight. Nevertheless, now the brake problem is gone, my gears aren't jumping, and it's like a new bike. Don't be afraid to tell Kozy's guys exactly what's wrong. Don't give them a big story, just tell them the symptoms are - they'll fix it for you. Another thing - so many times when using a Living Social or Groupon, merchants will sigh or roll their eyes ("Here comes another cheap customer"). Kozy's people seemed to welcome the coupon, which was refreshing. Thank you, Kozy - for restoring my faith in bike mechanics! Note: Didn't mean to make this an REI-bashing rant. I LOVE REI and shop there constantly and for years (I'm a member), so that's not the case. I just wouldn't have a bike serviced there ever again. read more

so, the other night, as i was leaving work i noticed that a couple of spokes had come loose from my rear wheel. i called the 219 W. Erie store at about 7:30pm and asked if it was dangerous to ride like that and if could they do the repair. the gentleman i spoke with suggested it was important to fix it sooner than later, and that kozys could do the repair. i asked if it could be done tonight. he said maybe. i said i'd be there in ten minutes. the long story short is that the repair guy took my bike in back and fixed it. it has disc brakes so it took extra time. he stayed after hours and got it done. he could have simply shook his head and asked me to leave the bike overnight, but he didn't. i appreciate the human element of understanding that i would have been stranded. kudos to kozys for great customer service. read more

The pricing is fair but I've been here 2 times now and both times my bike was returned more dysfunctional then it was before. The first time they fixed a spoke and the rear derailleur was put on wrong and it locked up my chain and snapped. The second time I also stopped in to get another spoke fixed and afterwards I rode 2 blocks back to my house and the tire was already flat. They pinched and broke the air valve during the repair. So I'm 0/2 on getting my bike back in working condition. read more

i usually work on my own bike, but recently got a flat without my kit and popped in for some help. Long story short, they fixed my flat and adjusted my rear brake. The tire was $10 more than on Jensen + they charged $16 for literally a 2 minute adjustment. The first time I pulled on the rear brake, the cable popped out. 3 days later, I got a pinch flat (i.e. bad installation, not running over glass). I would never go back. read more

So I'm brand new at the whole bike thing, and it's pretty obvious when you talk to me about them. I walked in with a flat tire, not realizing that it had been shredded and leaking air the entire time I had owned the bike. They got me right into the shop and fixed it within 15 minutes of being in the store. They also showed me what had happened to the tire so I understood my their were going to put on a new tire. The cashier on the way out was extremely nice and outgoing, which is something that you don't see as much of anymore. I'll definitely be going back for all of my bike needs. read more

An outstanding bike shop! My friend and I went looking for her first road bike and we hit Kozy's because they had a number of the bikes that we wanted to demo. I'm an experienced cyclist and was really impressed with the time and attention they gave her, a newbie. They spent time sizing her and finding bikes that fit. She was able to to demo the bikes she wanted, plus they had a couple of other suggestions, all within the newbie range. No up selling. When she found a bike with a good fit but was still uncertain, the people at the Milwaukee Ave store called around to find more models in the right size for her. A quick drive and two more demos later, she walked out of the Halsted store with a really good deal on a new Specialized Dolce. The selection was good, the service was excellent! read more

I called ahead to ask if they had a certain size/valve tube in stock. I was told yes. I showed up at the shop 15 minutes later. I was told they didn't have that size in stock but a slightly different size tube should work fine. I ask how much the tube is and they tell me a price. I go to the front desk to check out and was told a different (more expensive) price. I told the associate at the front desk that the other employees told me a lower price and he just told me that the other employee was wrong. I also explained the fact that I called ahead and was told incorrect information. He seemed unaffected by all of this. read more

For the most part the sales staff were friendly except for one individual they have working here. he did not have a 56cm frame so instead of losing the sale he sold me a 54cm frame which was too small for me. The only reason this location is getting 4 instead of 5 is because of this one individual. Aside from that Cozy's is a very reputable dealer, great easy return policies on all merchandise, and the only store you can buy a bike and if you are not happy return it in 30 days! I also did not like the fact this individual told me a bold face lie by saying their other location had a bike that was just built recently, so when I went to that store to make the purchase found out that was not the case. Other sales staff here have been great except this individual named "Theil". Aside from that my experience here has been good. read more

He shows no emotion and seems disinterested in selling me a bike. Didn't Thank me either after the big easy purchase. I have spent time at three Kozy's locations (S. Wabash, Wrigleyville, Erie St) over the course of the last couple months as I shopped for a new road bike. I found the customer service at all three locations to be absolutely stellar. Because of this, I kept shopping at their different locations until I found the bike I wanted. They didn't pressure me and let me ride as many bikes as I needed to ride. Even after I found the perfect bike and needed them to hold my old bike or make adjustments to my new bike or my shoes or whatever else, they were always helpful and friendly and accommodating. From Kenneth W: Here are the facts: I purchased a Canondale bike. When I did so, I told the Kozy's employee that I thought the brakes were loose. When he assured me that the brake tension was typical, I took the bike instead of rejecting it. I returned to Kozy's on Erie four times to have the brakes tightened. I was assured each time that the problem was solved. I took it back to Kozy's a fifth time when they lost all tension yet again. By that time, the handlebars collapsed completely forward after I ran into a curb. The manager refused to take the bike back, even though I took the bike after being assured by his employee that the bike was fine. I relied on his employee, only to wind up with an unsafe bike. The manager suggested that Kozy's would repair the brakes (and the handlebar). As to the brakes, this made sense only if, after four failures, they would finally get it right the fifth time -- or I could keep returning every 3-4 weeks. As to the handlebars, he fiddled with them, buy they promptly collapsed when I took the bike back. By that point, the bike had become unusable, unless I wanted to take my chances on, having failed once, he would get the repair right a second time. I lost the value of the bike and the service contract I unfortunately signed. Draw your own conclusions. read more
