Despite being pretty close to New York, the food here is definitely a cheap Connecticut imitation of the fine Italian food of that state. First of all, the pasta portion sizes are much smaller than anything I have seen on the other side of the border. And secondly, the prices for those smaller sizes are higher. The sauce is thinner and no bread comes with the order. For a hungry hiker, and Kent in Connecticut is still considered to be an outdoorsy town, none of these things is a positive mark in the log book. I began the final leg of what would be my Appalachian Trail adventure here before I hiked to Pawling, New York to complete the state of New York before hanging up my boots. So I wanted a hearty plate of pasta for the miles which they could just not supply here which was disappointing. After the hike (the next day), I actually came back to calorie replenish. And while the pizza I got was better than the pasta, it still did not measure up to New York (or even New Haven) quality. It was thin on both the base and the cheese and slightly burnt. But of course it was decent because all pizza is. So with the pizza, this restaurant could be acceptable. But the service was rude as well. It seems like they make most of the money off the bar but there's no reason to treat the restaurant like it doesn't matter. I got a cool breeze right from the host stand on. Stopped up on my way to Mohawk and it's really convenient. It was early, so it wasn't busy. We enjoyed the pizza. A little doughy for me, but my kids absolutely loved it. Waitress was really nice and liked the overall decor. Definitely plan on stopping back again. read more

The pizza we ordered off the specials menu tasted and looked like frozen pizza. The toppings were ok and fresh but the dough was not made there. It was the 'thin' pizza that they have listed on their menu. The regular pizza isn't frozen but this definitely was not fresh dough. The crust was too uniform and looked mass produced. Disappointed! What exactly is a pizza garden anyway? This place is actually one of the few places in the town of Kent that is far from bearing a resemblance to anything garden. It is in a parking lot, again, one of the few in Kent. Anyplace that has pizza in it's name should have decent pizza. Otherwise it would have gotten 3, maybe. If it was deemed a diner I would have allowed a reprieve. It would fall under the category of a place that serves pizza to merely satisfy the bourgeois whom, without proper pizza-accumen, order it there. This place is a strange place. This is one of the more affordable and casual places to eat in town, which is why we ended up choosing it. We ended up eating on the patio which had nice views of a garden. The wait staff was really friendly but incredibly slow. It seemed as though they were understaffed for the workload. I noticed they were running a lot of pick up orders, a bar area, an inside and outside dining areas. I felt those of us sitting outdoors were forgotten. The menu had a great variety along with gluten free options, pasta dishes and salads. I ended up getting a small margarita pizza. The crust was bland, dry and a little over cooked but the sauce had good flavor and the mozzarella was fresh. Ive actually become more impressed with this place over the years. For a small town, their pizza is good and their menu selections appeal to even the non-italian food lovers who might visit. Theres a meat/seafood/poultry section but also some items with mexican flare (see sizzling chicken fajitas or southwestern pizza). Pasta dishes are generous and range from the heavier carbonara and alfredos to the lighter roaster broccoli and garlic or pesto choices. They have nice big salads for the veggies eaters, and your can opt for grilled salmon, steak, or chicken as a healthy option. Servce is usually prompt, the bar is reasonably priced, and you will usually find this place pretty busy especially during the school year since its a favorite spot of many of the prep school kids in town. TVs in the bar can be set to pretty much any sports game. The owner is usually there and available, which is always nice to see. We usually sit at the bar and get some nachos or a buffalo chicken salad and a beer (going the classy route!). Beer on tap is nothing spectacular, but they have the old stanby's. Definitely stop in if you want a good meal at a good price. read more

Restaurant smelled like a dirty mop and the table we sat at was covered in a sticky film. Pizza did not look or taste like it was freshly made. I suspect it was a frozen pizza, judging by its flavor, texture and the fact that it was served atop a cardboard disc. For a similar experience grab a slice at your local gas station. Wonderful find. Beet salad, buffalo chicken and caesar all wonderful salads and fantastic size - meal all by itself. Linguine and white clam fantastic! One of the best and I'm seriously picky. Veggie thin white pizza sensational, great flavors, perfect crust and even though it only comes in medium, it was more like a large. Only complaint is that there are no happy hour drink specials and mixed drinks are outrageously expensive. Service very nice, love the location. Soup came out after salads and pizza came out before we even got a couple of bites of our salad in and we did ask to wait a bit. read more

I really wanted to give this spot 4 stars. The staff was super nice and the place had a fun vibe. We ordered a Corona and a Pinot Noir for drinks to start alongwith the Tuscany bread; which was delicious. For entrées we ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo with Brocolli. This came with the house salad. The salad was decent. The Alfredo sauce was too liquidy and was pretty bland. Its the easiest pasta to make so I was a bit surprised. The wine though cheap ($7) a glass was not all bad. It missed the 4-star mark as the main dish was not good at all. Maybe we should have stuck with the Pizza or the Calzones. Anyways this review does not mean you shouldn't try this place out. Nice place, however I constantly see workers stand around talking about who knows what instead of checking on orders or seated patrons. Also when you hand in an application, you never hear back which is insanely rude and unprofessional. Are they the only pizza joint in town? It took so long to eat here I can't believe I'm spending more time on them to write a review. But I will do it so other people can run. We stood and waited for a table for twenty minutes. There were plenty of empty tables. But we stood. And they ignored us. And everyone else. For twenty minutes. When we finally sat, we ordered immediately. And then we sat. For one hour and ten minutes. With no food. No check in. No "it'll be right out". And then the food came. Without plates. Or enough forks and knives and napkins. So we sat. It was 100 minutes since entering the restaurant before we got food. And we weren't alone. No one had good in the whole place. Take out people were getting food. We weren't. Recent trip to visit family in Kent landed us at this place since it was the only place I could find for pizza in this small town. I was really craving clams casino but, the menu did not reflect this item and I was disappointed. However, I did find clams-fried clam strips (very juicy ones at that) on the menu and they were awesome and did not disappoint the craving (even though they were fried). Went there in a group of about 8 twice in the last two Saturdays after hikes in the area. First time, service and food were OK. Second time, all bad. Sitting inside, we were one of only 2 tables occupied. Waitress was slow to come over, then clearly had a bad attitude from the moment we ordered drinks. She seemed annoyed that we asked for water in addition to drinks. She couldn't hide her disdain while taking the food orders. Re: food, the tap beer that we ordered was flat. The chicken parm dinner that a few of us ordered had overcooked pasta and watery sauce. The salads contained lettuce that had rotted ends. No complaints about the burgers. We all went away with a negative feeling about this place. It's a shame because it's conveniently-located in Kent and has plenty of seating. We will look elsewhere for our post-hike group meals. Came here with 3 friends today for lunch on our way to Kent Falls. We were greeted by the bartender/ server telling the only other customer at the bar that she hoped someone else would come in because she didnt want to be there. We got the impression that we imposing on her- I think her name was Jade. Our food was ok but my one friend's chicken gyro was very light on the chicken and heavy on the sauce and it tasted off. When she told our server she said " oh sorry" as she walked away while she rolled her eyes and shook her head. When my friend went up to pay- which I thought was weird he even had to do that seeing as we were sitting at the bar, he saw her rolling her eyes at another customer. Clearly Jade wanted to be anywhere else then at this restaurant helping the 5 whole customers that were bothering her sure hope someone else came into relieve her from her torture today. Too bad- cute town..... Yes Mary Ann it was on Monday the 27th. I really dislike writing negative reviews and I'm hoping it was just an off day. Very inviting atmosphere with friendly wait staff. My family of 7 came there for a celebration dinner on a very busy evening and this place blew our expectations! Our food was not only on our table in a timely manner but everything was prepared just right. My sisters buffalo chicken calzone had to be shared amongst the table due to her lack of conversation because she turned to business mode when confronted with this heavenly spicy pouch. I recommend ANY pizza especially the southwestern and buffalo chicken. (you can tell our family has a thing for the spicy food! HA!)
