I visited K‑POP BBQ & Hot Pot in Roanoke and had several concerns during my meal. Our server couldn't tell which meats were pork and which were beef, which is a serious red flag for cross‑contamination. The grill also looked aged, and even though it was replaced once, it was still hard to tell whether it was actually clean. The dining environment didn't help either. The music was very loud, and the lighting was so dim that it was difficult to see whether the meat was fully cooked. Many of the marinated meats and appetizers were on the sugary side, which may not appeal to everyone. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable for the quality. When I fist set foot into this establishment, what immediately caught was the ambiance. K-pop music was playing subtly in the background while the smell of meats and vegetables filled my nose. Our server Kyra had the best attitude, as well as quick service. She got our drinks in under a minute, and was able to make us feel welcome. The meat? Endless. Relentless. Beautiful. I blinked and suddenly there were five plates on the table. Did I order them? Did the universe provide? We may never know. By the time round three of brisket hit the grill, time stopped meaning anything. I forgot I even had to walk out the door after I stuffed myself full of delicious food. I've been to a few KBBQ places in my life (none in SW VA, however) and this one was one of the more chaotic experiences I've had. They also offer hot pot here, but my group didn't do it. A lot of the ordering here is done thru a tablet, which is quite different than any of the other KBBQ places I've been to. Each portion that you order is quite small, but the tablet system allows you to quickly order a significant amount of food. The food was pretty good. Some of the food, including the sauces, are found in the sauce bar where you can go and select which sauces you would like. I didn't like the fact that the servers didn't change the plate - you'd have to ask. My favorite was the pork belly, which was delicious. I'd highly recommend going with it. read more

Foods still amazing, atmosphere is always great, BUT your servers are getting a little to comfortable neglecting their tables. As I stated before we frequent your location several times a month. Past few times your service was lost, empty cups, stacked up plates, long story short, each visit we averaged an hour and a half and within that time we seen the server two times three if we had to wave them down to change the hot plate out or for our check. And I'd like to add, the times we go, is during the lunch hours, and there's literally only 2 to 3 tables dining. It's like they are miserable being their and it's a travesty to attend their tables. One waitress came to the table once and when we asked for the check she hit the 22% tip option herself, we still tipped 20% but it wasn't 20% service. Please don't let your wait staff drive your customers away and your rating down, we still love the food and atmosphere. These people around here are already hesitant because the restaurant is out their norm, don't let staff be the driving factor that turns them away from a great experience. read more

Run, run, RUN to KPot at Valley View Mall.!!!! This place is absolutely amazing. The food is both fresh and delicious and the selection is plentiful. My husband and I both had Miso soup which was delicious. They have 8 different soup flavors you can choose and then, (and this is where the fun begins) you choose what you want in your soup. From meat to vegetables to seafood, there are many selections for the taking. All the selections are brought to you raw and uncooked. The soup is brought to you in a stainless steel bowl and placed on a burner located right in your table. Once the soup starts to simmer, you add your meat, veggie, and/or seafood and let them cook in the soup. I had prime rib, broccoli, crab meat, bean sprouts, and ramen noodles. My husband had prime rib, brisket, broccoli, pho noodles, bean sprouts and buk Choi. To say the meal was delicious is simply an understatement. While we didn't have the meat meal, it too would have been served uncooked, but had we chosen, it would have been delivered to us and we would cook it on the grill that is also in the table. They also have a buffet table that includes different dipping sauces, spices, and oils for cooking your meats. You may also select some friend chicken wings, spring rolls, sliced fresh fruit, lo mein noodles, edamame, and various desserts. Service was very helpful and we felt immediately at ease in this unique establishment. Please hurry and come hungry and allow yourself time to fully enjoy both the food and the experience. We have been coming here since it opened and love it! However I'm giving 4 stars due to the new setup for hot plate buttons. It used to be able to move but now it's right where the high chair sits meaning our toddler touches the buttons the whole time. I understand this is just a problem for families with little kids though. As others stated, service is hit or miss when it comes to clearing plates, refills or hot plate change. read more

I have to admit it, I've never had Korean food before and was a little confused on how to go about ordering the food, but a Korean good friend of mine and her husband talked so highly of it that when K-Pot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot opened its doors here in the City of Ronoke, I just had to be one of the first to go and try it out. After visiting their website and reading their first Yelp review written by a Yelp Elite Squad member friend of mine who attended the Family and Friends Pre-Opening Night event, I decided this past Friday, to go have dinner there. When I first arrived, I was impressed by the many parking spaces one can park at. Even though the restaurant is located in one of the small strip malls in front of the Valley View Mall, it is in the corner space in a large and majestic building structure. If their website and colorful brochures were captivating and attractive, these didn't do justice to the extraordinary design of the place. It was like entering another world with exquisite design and magnificent lighting, which created a captivated yet relaxed ambiance. But if you think this was impressive, I was quickly even more impressed by the number of employees the place had each with a particular role and everybody motivated and performing to the maximum of their potential and working as a group making sure that the customers had the best dining experience of their life. One of the hosts first took me to a booth with a table containing a grill area in the middle and handed me a colorful menu with nice and bright pictures of the food. Then, almost immediately, my server Ayanna arrived with a friend smile and a very welcoming attitude. She introduced herself, and after I admitted that I felt somewhat lost in the process of ordering and eating Koream food, she explained in detail how the process was. This was an all you can eat meal for one price. You first choose between the BBQ Korean Style or the Hot Pot. Then you would select the different meats from the menu and cook them on the table embedded grill or in the Hot Pot. As you picked the items, she would select them on her hand computer device, and the order would go directly to the area where another employee would put the little tray like dishes and on a cart, which he then brought to the table and unloaded. Before this happened, you had time to go over to a self-service buffet area of different seasoning items that you could pick out and take to your table for seasoning your meat with before you put it to cook. My server was very helpful in explaining the different items available, in cooking them, since I was by myself, and in bringing me other items like for example a bowl of Korean white rice which was very sticky. Some of the items I ordered were the Beef Bulgogi, the Hanger Steak, the KPOT Steak, the Chicken Bulgogi, the Spicy Calamari, the Spicy Pork Bulgogi, and for vegetables, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and eggplant. Right after an assistant came with a cart of the item and placed them on the table, my server started cooking them on the grill after putting some seasoning on them. All of a sudden you saw all servers gather to a table and one of them carried a lit up Happy Birthday sign. They were singing Happy Bithday to one of the customers. What a wonderful gesture. Tonight, I had the privilege of being invited to the soft opening of KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot. For anyone who has read some of my other reviews, they know that my food obsession is particularly with Szechuanese málà (numbing and spicy) cuisine. I particularly love Szechuanese hot pot, but to my great disappointment, have not had convenient ways to get it. I've mostly had to make it at home with my own hot pot until now. KPOT is the answer to my calling for the greater Roanoke Valley to get a hot pot restaurant. Yes, this place primarily focuses on Korean cuisine, but they have Japanese, Chinese, and Thai influenced options too. For our hot pot soup base selections, my table ordered the Japanese Miso, Szechuan Spicy, and Thai Tom Yum Soup. All of them were savory with the Szechuan Spicy having a wonderful málà sensation. For our vegetables, we ordered bok choy, fresh corn, sliced pumpkins, shiitake mushroom, potato, and broccoli. As for the meat, we chose sliced lamb, garlic shrimp, sliced ribeye, sliced chicken, clams, and jumbo shrimp. All of the meat and vegetables were superb in the various hot pot broths. As all hot pot restaurants should, they have a condiment bar to make various dipping sauces with charts posted for recommended combinations. The condiment bar also features desserts such as Mint Mousse and Sesame Balls. The atmosphere has a fun and comfortable vibe with all of the tables featuring hot pot and Korean BBQ burners. I look forward to trying the Korean BBQ during my next visit. The restaurant was packed for the soft opening and our waiter did an excellent job for being the first night. The menu is a bit pricey, but this is a worthwhile dining experience. It might be obvious, but I am thrilled that Roanoke finally has a hot pot restaurant. The food was great and we choose the dinner so we can enjoy all the meats Our server Emma V was nice and asking if were doing ok but later on she mentioned about the waste policy "Let me explain the waste policy to you.! If you leave more than one pound we charge you for the waste policy!" We took took this as a threat not to eat anymore! When we were done eating Emma took my wife's credit card and returned to have her sign. When my wife looked at the bill Emma added an $18.00 tip to the bill. Our bill was a total amount of $80 and she put the amount of $98. I told her that I will give cash fort a tip. So why didn't she wait and let the customer decide what ever tip they wanted to leave? So she said "ok" then changed my total to $80. What I'm saying here is that she should let us eat and enjoy the buffet and not to mention the rules while were eating. Miso soup had a tobacco flavor. Miso soup smelled horrible cooking and left meat with a strange flavor. Not to mention the 4$ fountain drink... with a steep 30$ price per person for subpar food. Ice cream was rock solid, barely any other desert options. Fruit was soggy as well as the cucumber salad. Had to drench the food in yum yum sauce to want to finish the meal. My family and I visited the K-Pot in Roanoke, VA around 12:15 pm today for lunch. My wife and I had only eaten at K-Pot one other time in the past and questioned what the prices were. We were informed that we would be eating at the lunch prices today ($20.99 each for my wife and I and $7.99 for my 4 year old son). We ordered our food, got our first dishes, and began eating when about 15 or 20 minutes in, we were informed by our waitress that we would actually be eating at the dinner price today due to the holidays and flipped our tablet over to the dinner selection instead. Although we were able to order dinner items now, we were unaware of the sudden price increase to $30.99 each for my wife and I and $11.99 for our son (about a $24 total price increase overall). I did not want our waitress to get in trouble so we decided not to pursue the issue at the store and thought it best to reach out to you via email. For clarity, our service was fine, our food was great, but we don't believe that the price increase was addressed appropriately and would've probably made other arrangements had we known about the increase prior to eating. First time to visit this place. Food was ok but not great. Server didn't explain how things work very well. No knives to cut the meat, shrimp was whole, unpeeled, and not deveined. I've been here a few times and I love the food. I have tried Korean BBQ in NJ, CT, OR so I'm not new to Korean BBQ and hot pots. The taste is great and the variety of meat, seafood and veggies are perfect. The ambiance of the restaurant is also great. However, the service is inconsistent. I'm used to eating Korean BBQ so I know how the style of meat is different and how I need to cook it. But many ppl are new to this and may need extra guidance. The first time we came our wait staff was very attentive, changed our grill twice and checked on us often. But the second time, we have to remind them to change our grill and they did not check on us often. But in the end, we had great food and we did enjoy our time here. read more

Visited Sunday, 11/10/24 at around 5PM, a table of four. The restaurant was busy but not full. This was my third visit since they opened earlier this year. The first two visits were probably 4.5 stars, with the only real complaint being that the people who bring the items to the table just drop them off and dash off, without explaining what the items are. I would love labeled plates, but realize that would probably be cumbersome. But if I ordered three thin sliced meats that come rolled up, it would be nice to know which is which, and not get a shrug when I ask. During those two visits, our servers took the time to explain everything and actually offered to cook some things for us (basically, demonstrating the methods). This visit, however, barely earned 3 stars. The food was good. The atmosphere was as expected (louder than most sit-down restaurants, because of the nature of the experience). The service, however, was very poor. Our main server was absent from the dining room for most of our visit. In fact, it seemed like there were few servers checking on tables at all. I did see them all when they were doing multiple birthday songs. Our drinks were completely empty, and when we asked a guy who was dropping off food about refills, he said, "I don't do refills" and walked away. I thought he might be getting a server for us, but if he did, they did not appear. We were also never offered additional hot water for our hotpots or a new grill (which were freely offered in previous visits) until we tracked her down late in the visit, and then there was an inordinate delay in getting those items. We were at Table 1 (I believe), in the back corner. For most of our 2 hour visit, a worker was huddled in the corner a few feet from us, on a video call on his phone. It was awkward and annoying, especially since he looked like he was supposed to be clearing dishes, and our empty dishes were piling up on the outside of the table, clearly visible to any passing worker. No dishes were removed from our table until, after finally finding our server and getting drink refills, I picked up the neat stack and asked her to take them away. At that point, she offered to clear other plates from the table. The food was slower to arrive than during my previous two visits. This, along with the slower service in general, made the value of the experience drop drastically. We felt rushed at the end because of all of the delays. There was no ice cream, which isn't a huge deal but if it's offered, it should be there. I wish there was a better method of oiling/buttering the grill. The tiny tubs of margarine are difficult to use with chopsticks, and the individual packaging is wasteful. A bottle of oil or spray or something at each table would be helpful. And, to top all this off, when we finally finished and were paying, the automatic tip selections were 20%, 22%, and 25%. This is very high when all the server does is take your drink order, and you do everything else through the tablet. I assume that the tips get parted out to people bringing food and cleaning plates, but still, it's high for an already expensive meal. With this subpar service, I regret allowing myself to be guilted into a 20% tip. Searching online, it seems like the standard tip for a place such as this is more like 10-15%, which I will keep in mind for any future visits. read more

I love a good Korean BBQ place but the franchised KPot at this location did not appeal to me. I would not suggest this as a place for large groups of people. Visiting family over the 4th of July weekend we always go out to dinner a few times. My family advised me that KPot was new establishment in the area; and of course who doesn't want to check out the new spot. The older family members never experienced a Korean BBQ place and thought it would be a fun experience. While they had enough warmers for hot pots for my family and I (a group of 6), they only have one grill per table. And if the concept isn't picked up by the diner, the grill needs to be changed after each person cooks because most people overcook their food not realizing it's not necessary here because the meat is thin. The functionality of the table is terrible. With only one grill, the people that enter the booth first do not have the ability to cook their food because the grill is at the top of the table where you enter to sit. Either the person in the middle or at the end has to cook the food of the persons back by the wall of the booth. It also creates a problem when someone has to get out to grab any sauces or appetizers. Each person has a warmer for their hot pot but if each burner is being used there's no room on the table because the meats and veggies are brought out separately so the table gets crowded with plates and bowls. Major note: if someone in your party is not going to eat for whatever reason, you will be charged the full buffet price for them because they are at the table. All you can eat is a great concept just don't go close to closing because you are not allowed to take any food East you've ordered, cooked and paid for.
