Kramers Tavern is your prototypical, friendly neighborhood dive bar. This gem was opened in 1933, and touts itself as "home of the 40's," offering PBR, Miller Lite, Miller High Life and Bud Light 40 oz bottles for $8. In addition, they have a wide selection of other beers, seltzers and wine, as well as a full bar. Prices are extremely reasonable with all beers and seltzers under $5. No glass pint glasses here -- everything comes with plastic cups. They have a food selection of salads, sandwiches, fried finger foods, burgers, and pizza. We've tried a variety of things, and really liked the chicken fingers, french fries and southern style burger. The french fries are shoestring and extra crunchy. We didn't like the pizza and thought the crust had a weird taste to it. Other reviews raved about the pizza, so wondering if it was just an off night? The best part though is the atmosphere and people. There are plenty of TV's, and seating inside, on a covered patio, and outdoors. They also have games including pool ($1.25 per play), golden tee, big buck deer hunter, and bullshooter electronic darts. This place hasn't changed since I was in high school...and that's been a few years! It's known around town for pizza and beer. Usually before or after any game your going to. Always crowded and loud. Stopped in here for a lunch and was thrilled that I did. The Hot Italian Sub was delicious - and, so reasonably priced! My husband had the Hot Swine pizza and really enjoyed it. Both of our meals were delightfully flavorful and served quickly and hot. The place went under new ownership in March and the new owners have made some great improvements, while still keeping the history and charm of its past. You will now find an updated food menu, a great selection of liquor and wine, fountain pop/soda, and a great patio to enjoy on a nice summer day. Those changes pair nicely with the "home of the 40." Where else can you grab a 40 of beer, a koozie to put it in, and relax on a patio with friends and a pizza? From the Chicago market. I was worried about ordering a 7" pizza. It was filling and enough for this big guy. I did start with a house salad. The salad with mixed greens was good as was the Italian dressing . The pizza I had was the south side. It's the best pizza I've had in the 6 months of living on Ohio. My only gripe and it's a big deal for me is everything is eaten on paper tray(salad) or 6" plates(pizza) and all plastic utensils. It's big enough to only order carry out when in the area. Great option for a casual spot to watch football games and eat some pizza! Bartenders recommended the Hot Swine pizza, which was very helpful. The Mac and cheese bites were also good. There is also plenty of merch available, as well as a wide selection of beer and liquors. I've only been to Kramers a couple of times over the past few years, and thought I would give it another try after hearing about new ownership. The pizza was very good (love the crust -- tastes like a pretzel dough) and they have added to the drink selection from what I remember before. Bourbon and beer on draft! I visited Kramer's under somewhat unusual circumstances... a large group of Chaminade alumni converged on the place and essentially ran the 'regular' crowd out with their raucous ramblings and alcohol-fueled reminiscence. And I was tagging along with that group. We were a little late to the party and when we were heading in, a group of 20-somethings were heading out and I heard a, "what is happening in there" snatch of their conversation. The last group held out a bit longer, in the picnic table side-room, but ultimately they succumbed to the takeover as well. Like everyone else has said, they have 40-oz beers and lots of them. That's because Kramer's is the largest distributor of 40's in the region. And as a subsequent result, they have quite a few varieties to choose from. I may never know what this place is like on a 'normal' night, but I will say it's definitely one of the most well illuminated bars I've been in recently, they have a legit cigarette machine in the corner, and a phone booth to boot. Other nights it's filled with UD students and alum tossing back 40's and bashing pizza. And still other times it's an eclectic mix of families, couples, buddies kickin back and relaxin. SERVICE---- there are not any servers, if you want something order it from the bartender. Clean up after yourself, you don't have to but how hard is it to take the cardboard and throw it in the trash can when you leave? On nights where they are busy be prepared to wait a little while but don't complain. Relax, have a 40 of Busch light and watch the sporting event on one of the small televisions. FOOD--- the pizza is great!!! This is one of the few pies I can order and really enjoy just plain cheese. Don't get me wrong, I love toppings but the plain cheese itself is exquisite. Second - If you looked up 'hole-in-the-wall bar', a picture of Kramer's would be there. I love it for that. It's old school. You order at the bar, mostly 40s for beer (they do have some of the local breweries cans available too), classic bar food (pizza, burgers, fries, onion rings, etc.), lots of TVs, and a great atmosphere. Third - Their pizza is THE BEST in all of Dayton! Not too thick, not too thin of a crust, great sauce, amazing cheese, and all your standard toppings! Great divey/college bar type atmosphere. Been a staple in University of Dayton area for decades! Once school is in sessions, it gets pretty crowded! I really liked the pizza though. Its what we call "Dayton Style".. square cut pizza, then crispy crust and toppings almost to edge of pizza. The coolers are giant rotating metal circular shelves behind glass. I have never seen one like it. I can appreciate any place that sells 40 oz bottles. I do not agree with drinking it out of a plastic cup. If you have a 40, you should guzzle it out of the bottle. The bartender was a real sweetheart and the place had character. Pros: Cool layout for a bar, located really close to the University of Dayton, good Pizza, plenty of TV. Cons: The staff is terrible, last few times I have been they've come up to us bitching to us about not spending enough money, or point us out for not tipping everytime we go up to the bar. Cash only, I mean seriously it's 2016, get a square card swiper and stop making people charge to get cash out of the ATM. No trivia nights, no special deals, and no draft beer, this bar has so much potential but nothing going for it. If you're ever in the mood for some 40s and some pizza, you should go to Kramers. Kramers is a place of character, somewhat odd, somewhat "we don't give a bleep" type attitude - but, it works! The pizza wasn't bad, we ordered pepperoni and a deluxe. The only dislike I had was the cheese kept falling off (similar to Larosas if you've ever been there). I hate to rain on everyone's parade and actually feel guilty about this review, but this one star is deserved. It's clear that Kramer's is a well-loved place. A coworker raved about the pizza so I dragged a friend and his kid there at 8:30 on a Saturday night. We walked in and the place was busy, with only two empty tables - both littered with many 40oz bottles of beer and assorted other debris. We requested that someone clean a table for us right after we sat down. One orders all food and drink at the bar as there are no waiters. After waiting 10 minutes for our turn, I ordered a large pepperoni pizza, a cheeseburger, 2 cokes and a cider. "That'll be 24.50." I hand him my credit card. "We don't accept credit. But there's an ATM right over there." The ATM was out of service. "Is there another ATM" nearby?" He said, "I don't know, there's probably one down the hill." I hand him a $20 as a downpayment on my food while I head down the hill, but he doesn't accept it and wouldn't send my order back to the kitchen. So down the hill I went to find an ATM. (Side note: Since when is there no bank on the business strip next to a large college campus...really?) Got money from an ATM at Sunoco, and made my way back up the hill. I got back to Kramer's to the order taker to hand him my money. "Ok, now what do you want on that burger?" The dude threw out our order even though my party was waiting at a still-dirty table. So we went through the process again "That will be $28.50." Um...just 15 minutes ago it was $24.50. Now I'm just getting steamed... We got our food, and ate at a dirty table (we shoved all those 40oz bottles, dirty plates, etc off to one side). Small paper plates and napkins are provided at the tables, but we asked for new ones because the napkins in the holders had pizza sauce on them. We were in Kramer's about and hour to an hour and 15 minutes and during that time not one single table was cleaned of debris. Not. One. Single. Table. This place is a freaking pig sty. Even the 13 year-old kid - who isn't big on cleaning anything - acknowledged this by saying, "This place sucks." This is remarkable considering pizza is his favorite food and he had a large one practically to himself. Oh...the food. The pizza was decent. I've had better, but this wasn't bad. The cheeseburger had cold buns (as opposed to warm or room temperature buns), but I was told it was decent as well. Each of us finished our drinks before our food but didn't order a second round because we didn't want to deal with the dude behind the bar. We all agreed we would not be back. After one year in Dayton, our string of sucky dining experiences continues. It seems to be the thing here. Maybe if I went to UD and spent my college years hanging out at Kramer's it would be cool, but this place is not. an interesting place thats for sure. as a place that has no draft beer available, they have resorted to the more, urm classier source of getting your drink on. 40oz of beer in all styles from the classy to the, not so classy, which of course begs the question if drinking beer from 40s is classy to begin with? to solve that problem they give you a small plastic cup, so you don't have to embarrass yourself by guzzling down 40oz of cold chilled malted beverage in front of the ladies, or well your mom. But, I digress. Kramer's is a bar that has alot of character, a large single room with Dayton Flyers Memorabilia, foot ball schedule's tacked to the wall, with a good amount of TV's around the area to watch the game. They have pretty standard decently priced bar fair and pizza that is pretty amusing. Its like they coat it in salt to make you thirsty and drink more beer. But it gets the job done. I like coming here and watching the Flyer's play basketball when they play on ESPN U a couple of times a year. I'll go here over BW3s or other bars because of the atmosphere. There is something enjoyable about yelling at the TV about bad calls, with not only other students but also alumni that have a dirtier mouth then you do when it comes to cursing the refs or the poor coaching calls. What makes this place separate from others is that its has been around for a long time, many of my friends had there first drinks here, and will keep going back. and i will to, don't change a thing about this bar, because it's got something going for it, even if I or the many other' yelper's can't quiet put there finger on it. Hands down, this is my favorite bar. I grew up at this bar, and have very fond memories here. The atmosphere is great, and the bar has a lot of character. They don't have anything on draft, so the standard drink is a 40 with a plastic cup. They have pool and darts in the front room too. Excellent bar!!! read more

kramer's filled an interesting niche for 2 weeks of my life. my friend and his associates are on an alternative work schedule which makes their happy hour approximately 11am. before my work started, i twice joined in their tradition of $5 bud 40oz in a cordoned off room reminiscent of your rich friend's basement - golden tee, pool, darts, and most importantly jukebox. the juke is a standard "internet" box, but listening to your music (80s metal, radiohead, nelly, la bouche, etc) puts the finishing touches on weekday daydrinking with $5 40s. i vaguely remember one of my companions stating that this is their favorite pizza, which is stupid. it's a fine, greasy pie which accompanies the above well, but nothing more. their sign out front mentions a weekend brunch. details to follow. read more
