I have given high reviews of the restaurant before but this time around I was put off. Off the bat…read morewalking in is a welcome sign that says 5% will be added to your bill if not using cash. The service was very slow and we felt ignored. Sure there are lots of excuses for this but this shouldn't be when you see other tables being served faster. The food was good. I generally like their food. But there are other places to get Mexican.

Service was slow, all of our dishes were served warm at best (mine was cold), only exception being the fajitas which were served steaming hot. I had enchiladas plus a taco. Not very flavorful and skimpy on the fillings. A lot of tortilla and sauce but very little meat. My wife had the chili rellenos and while deep fried on the outside the cheese inside wasn't melted. One friend had the dish that they serve flaming (can't recall its name and I didn't get a pic) and it was meh. The fish tacos also not a highlight. The steak fajitas were said to be pretty good. Also note, chips and salsa are not complimentary, they charge $3.50 for soda water and have a sign at the entrance notifying a 5% discount if paying cash (i.e. a 5% credit card fee). I'm not sure if this was just an off night for them or not but there are a few Mexican spots in the area that are consistently good (Plaza Azteca in White Oak and El Campesino in Monroeville). I likely won't try Madero again.

Finally got to try Pittsburgh Taco Boys! It was definitely good, but I was hoping for a bit more…read moreflavor I will say. The chips and queso were delicious- we really enjoyed that and felt it was a good price. We then split 4 different tacos to sample many of their options. The beef shoulder and pork butt were good but could use more flavor. The chicken thigh was a bit clunky feeling and dry, in my opinion. Our favorite taco was the chorizo taco. It was very flavorful! I must say, I appreciate how full the tacos are and the corn tortillas were surprisingly tasty! I would come again but only for the chips and queso, maybe a chorizo taco, and am very curious about their burritos- specifically the brunch themed ones. The setting is very laid back which is nice and easy. You order at the counter and have a seat in their back room where they bring the food to you. The stand for getting hot sauce and free water was convenient. Everything came out very quickly which is another bonus! Overall not a bad experience, I would try again but some different menu items.

The ambiance isn't anything too crazy, but they kinda expanded the area a bit I think. I got to try their mushroom quesadilla and chicken burrito as well as horchata. The quesadilla was probably my favorite meal. Huge portion for the price, lots of tasty and seasoned mushrooms, not too oily, loads of cheese, and an awesome creamy sauce on the side. So good. The burrito was also great. And, also huge. Great deals at this place. Tons of rice and a good amount of beans and other fixings. The meat was a little chewy, but not bad. The horchata was a bit disappointing. Had a sort of strange aftertaste. They also had a hibiscus drink that my buddy let me try, and it was pretty refreshing but also has that weird aftertaste. All in all, a very good place! I'd come here for takeout again for sure. Looking forward to it!
