It was my first time here. I've driven past it so many times. The place was amazing. The burger I had was juicy sweet and savory. The menu was a pretty cool newspaper. Pretty quick service. Good ambiance. Great place to go with friends for lunch or breakfast Will be going back for sure. 10/10

First off, this place has fantastic service. Everyone was absolutely nice and warm to us. We had no wait for a table which felt surprising for what seemed like a full house. My husband chose Kriner's for breakfast today after having tried them a week ago and having good things to say. We shared Ted's breakfast and the two of us did not finish. What an incredible value. It is very likely we will soon return. This is the kind of place you can take your family from out of town who want a great local spot for comfort food. My two favorite things: seeing a glass ketchup bottle in who knows how long, and finally a restaurant with a flavorful sausage gravy.

As mentioned by many Yelpers, Kriners is located on a one-way and can be hard to access. Parking and exiting is also a pain. If you can get thru all that, inside, you'll find it feels a lot like visiting someone's home. I'd describe it as a low volume intimate diner. Although we are always welcomed by staff, and feel comfortable because of the staff, families like mine, (minority + disabled child unable to mask his Autism), definitely stick out like a sore thumb here. Come for the good eats, but don't be surprised if you get unwanted stares. I was born and raised here, so I'd say I'm used to it. Kriners has THEE best honey mustard and homemade jams, as well as the THEE best cinnamon rolls (try them warm). Highly recommend. We have never had a bad breakfast here. It's the other stuff that keeps us from visiting more often.

If you come here you have to try the Andy's Awesome Burger ! The melted jalapeño cheese and Smokey bacon make this one delicious burger get it onion rings for an awesome meal.

Do note that they did not open until 8 AM in mid-May Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - (I) Tony's Chicken fried steak & eggs with sourdough bread was flavorful but could have used more gravy (S) Reindeer sausage skillet was a bit bland at first but the flavor comes from the sausage itself which is quite salty. Tasted similar to most other sausages. Interesting fact is that it's most likely caribou rather than reindeer but the two are similar animals but located in different continents and developed under different geographical circumstances Ambience: 5/5 - interesting decoration with lots of things to look at/read. Comfortable booths along the wall and plenty of tables for additional customers Service: 5/5 - quick friendly service. Not too much conversation but we got what we needed. Hands down. This is the BEST BREAKFAST to be had in Anchorage, maybe even Alaska... NO QUESTIONS ASKED! This place keeps it real, huge in portions, and really know how to season their food! It's just not my vibe. It was pretty dead in there, which is typically not a good sign for a restaurant. I didn't enjoy my chicken fried steak. The gravy is meh. They do give you a TON of food I will say so if you're mad hungry this may be your place. The music coming from the kitchen was too loud in my opinion. Not sure I want to hear death metal as I try to eat my meal peacefully. The service was kind and attentive. Hubby said omelet was good and said his shake was ok, "not the best, not the worst." Also there is a weird smell in this place and it was a turn off for me sadly. The menu not enough selection or variety just kinda boring. I don't think I would visit again unless they greatly improve.

We heard about this place on you tube and decided to try it out while we were in town with 2 guests from CA. They split the veggie omlette and had the biscuit with homemade strawberry jam. I had Uncle Parkers corned beef hash, homemade and chunky, well seasoned and nicely crisped! Delicious. I had the biscuit with jam too, so good, tart and spreadable. Jim had the fish and tater tots. The fish was cod and fried beautifully golden brown. He raved about the fresh made starter sauce. The coffee was tasty, hot and kept on coming! Heather was our waitress, attentive and friendly. I think we found a great new spot for lunch in Anchorage. read more

My family and I used to be regulars of Kriners as well as their sister location. I will agree that it is a cute place, delivers huge portions and has thrived longer here than any other place that I've seen occupy this location. I felt the food all tasted pretty much the same for awhile, but I joined my family still most of the time because I wanted family time. I agree with the other reviews the gravy is awful. My mother also agrees and it seems to be a common thought. Let's just say you either will love it or hate it. I have always had good booth service here. Their bread is also delicious. They do well for the community with Children's Lunchbox and free Thanksgiving. So why do they get 1 star? Food that to me all starts to taste the same and is no longer enjoyable to eat. My last interaction at this establishment I had ordered the daily special to go. The waitress working was friendly and helpful as usual. The cooks however were talking loudly about vulgar and sexual things. Things that don't belong in a work place let alone a family restaurant. I got home and the order was wrong. Not the special, not even close. So I contacted Kriner's and explained the error and while I was at it I voiced my concern about the filthy language of their cooking staff. I was told the chef was mistaken with the special and that was that and that was my last visit. read more

Great cozy little place to eat in Anchorage. Portions aren't small by any means. The menu is an old newspaper with Alaska facts, made it a great read for a traveler on vacation to learn facts and figures about Anchorage. Hubby ordered the pancakes. The waitress warned us that portions were huge. She wasn't kidding. I ordered the eggs with homemade sourdough from the local bakery. SO good. Cherry jam made from scratch. Everything (including our waitress) was just perfect. read more

We came here for breakfast on a snowy Sunday for brunch. I got the reindeer skillet which was huge! The biscuit, gravy, skillet all of it was delicious. I think it was the first time I wasn't able to finish a breakfast dish because I was too full lol. They have a nice size spot, the desserts in their case looked great but we didn't have room to try any. The service was fast and friendly, I'd recommend stopping here. read more

Boy was I a sweet summer child when I first reviewed this spot. I've since lived in Alaska for another six years. In that time I've been to many other breakfast spots, and I've also returned here. There is little to discern it from a Denny's or a Village Inn. If someone took you here and you didn't know any better...you'd think it was a national chain that buys everything from a SYSCO truck. If you're looking for a more unique, locally-owned spot for breakfast, I'd recommend: Snow City Café, Biscuitclub, Middle Way Café, Southside Grill, Waffle Rush, or Waffles and Whatnot. In my previous review, I acknowledged the politics of this place, and how they aren't a problem for me. I'm a live and let live person most of the time. However, this business has since aggressively fought with their own community, promoted conspiracy theories, and pandered to insurrectionists. I'm sorry, but that's just a bridge too far for me personally. read more

Once again, I found myself in Anchorage. My coworkers decided we should head to Kriner's Diner for lunch, though I was in the mood for breakfast. I decided on a simple bacon, eggs over medium, hash browns, and toast. The waitress suggested their homemade sourdough bread, which did not disappoint. What I was surprised by that the picture doesn't justify, was the large amount of hash browns. You can never go wrong with a pile of hash browns. Right there is a reason to come back. My coworkers enjoyed the 3/4 pound hamburger steak and a burger, both of which looked amazing. If you come to Kriner's you're going to find a great diner atmosphere, great service, and great food. If you're looking for some great comfort food, this is a must stop. read more

Great place!! Saturday am gets crowded but it's well worth the wait , service was friendly and kept my coffee cup full, we had the country fries steak and eggs , hash browns...the Fish and chips and cinnamon roll to go! Service - A+ A solid breakfast place where you feel like you are family is not as easy to come by. It probably helps that you're likely to be served by one of the owners. Food - B+ A+ for the pancakes though. Seriously awesome pancakes. Whatever breakfast you go with, make sure to add a pancake. No seriously...truly different and delicious pancakes. All that said...the Hash-- could have used a little more corned beef. It was delicious, but the corned beef was hard to find in the mix of the hash. It's a busy place so the two doors open and close quite regularly. This can mean a little draft get going. There's not really a place (that I saw) where you can really avoid that. Keep that in mind on those super cold days. And I apologize for no pancake pictures. It was gone too fast! read more

I really want to like Kriner's but honestly not impressed. Been here several times and it's always just okay. Popped in for breakfast and ordered the All American Skillet. The hash browns were previously frozen shredded potatoes, the sausage patty was undercooked, the eggs more runny than medium as requests. The biscuit was not done on the inside and the gravy not good. All of the food was bland and not very appealing. Lastly, the coffee was burned and not good. What a great spot. I've seen Kriner's on YouTube, that's basically the extent of my knowledge. Have some local friends who love it and decided to stop by for a famous cinnamon roll while driving my aunt from Texas around town. The cinnamon rolls was amazing. I'll be honest after eating round rock donuts in Texas (giant donut) I figured the huge cinnamon roll would be the same. Okay tasting but really fun because it was big. That is not what their cinnamon roll is at all. This thing is massive but it's delicious! It was served warm and so so good. I can't wait to go back because the food smelled amazing, the waitress was funny and super sweet, and even the guy refilling drinks and cleaning tables was super friendly. Classic Americana at Kriner's Diner. My friend is a newbie to Alaska so on our trip she landed and was crying about how hungry she was, so I said let's go to a diner nearby. Kriner's came up and had decent reviews so we came to check it out! I wasn't that hungry but had a bowl of soup but ended eating some fish and chips as well. Delicious were the soup and the fish and chips from locally caught alaskan cod. Food was excellent and service was great. Our server was attentive to our needs and was fine. I felt safe dining here in these less than safe Covid times. Parking was easy as we arrived in a class A RV so needed plenty of room and their lots was large and simple to maneuver the large vehicle. we even got a nutty but honest t-shirt while here. The one stating the server aims to give great service to all especially that solid 75% who will appreciate it. read more

Second visit/Lunch: Wonderfully perfect halibut sandwich was delicious and their kid's burger was pretty solid. Between the great food, friendly service and clean, spacious dining room Heidi's is definitely worth the trip! We will most definitely make a point to return next time we're in town.

I really enjoyed the basil & pea puree that came with the cod, and for the duck breast I thought it was seasoned well though I would've preferred it a little less well done. For appetizers I ordered prawn fritters & a bread plate. I really enjoyed the different components of the bread plate; my favorite being the whipped honey feta. The fritters were tasty, but I wish they had more prawn pieces in them. This restaurant is a learning experience for the students so you should not go into this meal expecting 5 star perfection, but it's a great way to get involved in helping to educate the culinary students in a real life setting. The meal includes comment cards that they ask you fill out, which will really help the students improve. During my recent visit to Kriner's Diner in Anchorage, AK, I found my experience to be mediocre at best. Although I ordered the reindeer skillet, which was a popular dish on the menu, it lacked any discernible flavor. Similarly, the cinema roll I ordered did not seem particularly fresh, and the gravy that accompanied my meal did not meet my expectations. While it's possible that the gravy may not have suited my personal taste, I was disappointed by the lack of flavor in my meal. Furthermore, the service provided by our waitress was not up to par. She rarely came by our table, leaving us to flag her down in order to request additional items or ask questions about the menu. This lack of attentiveness detracted from our overall dining experience and left us feeling dissatisfied with our visit. Taking all of these factors into consideration, I hesitate to recommend Kriner's Diner based on my experience. While it's possible that other menu items may be better, my meal was underwhelming, and the service was lacking. As a reviewer, I believe it's important to provide honest feedback, and I would encourage others to exercise caution when considering a visit to Kriner's Diner. read more

I'm so glad the first place we tried didn't have a table for us. We ended up taking an Uber to Kriner's from downtown (too many cruise ship tourists) and had the yummiest breakfast. The place is very homey and welcoming inside. The menu looks like a newspaper and offers information about Alaska as well as the Kriner family. The options made it difficult to choose, but I settled on Jay's Veggie Skillet. They offered gluten-free bread for my toast, and the serving size was ENORMOUS! My eggs were perfectly cooked, the hashbrowns crispy, and all the fixins were delicious. My toast came with small cups of spreadable butter and strawberry jam as well. My husband had the Biscuits and Gravy, and the biscuits were definitely a highlight! Dense but fluffy, buttery, and full of homemade love. It was just perfect. You can tell the Kriner family puts a lot of love into their food and service. It was a delight to dine there. read more

Everyone raved about Kriner's Diner. It's your basic greasy spoon diner. Nothing special, except every meal comes with a side of COVID-19. Don't go in if you aren't a white, middle age, Trump voting male, otherwise you won't get served, not that you want to eat the food anyway. Someone who can't follow basic health mandates because of libertarian ideals and a love of Ayn Rand isn't going to bother with basic health and safety codes. read more

Called and ordered a strawberry cream pie a week ahead for a work party. When I stopped by to pick it up, not only it wasn't ready, but my order was lost. Still purchased a different pie they had on display, which was delicious. This place has nice food, just needs to be more organized. read more
