Well ended up ordering the teds big breakfast and I was kind of not impressed. The bacon was definitely cooked perfectly and so were the eggs. But the biscuits and gravy was really dense. The biscuit weighed at least 2 pounds. Very dense and heavy for biscuits and gravy although the gravy was pretty good the biscuits ruined it for me for sure. Kriner's has a lot going against it. It's a cursed location that's extremely difficult to access unless you're driving southbound C Street from downtown. But if the food were good enough people would go. But Kriners is doomed unless they figure out what the hell they're doing. It looks like a smallish bistro inside, rather than a diner. Cute, actually, with a lot of potential. I don't know how they have the nerve to call themselves a diner with such a limited menu. Our food was sooo flavorless, except my salad dressing, which may well have been rancid. The only thing diner-y about Kriner's is that they must keep their food under heat lamps since it came out in a flash and the texture reflected this. If the prices were diner-y, I would be more forgiving. But 32 bucks plus tip for chicken fried steak and a shitty burger with super small salad gave me a serious case of buyer's remorse. Doesn't look like much from the outside (or inside for that matter); however, the food is really good. The breakfast was served hot and plentiful and we got it in a flash! We both ordered a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon and/or sausage, hash browns and homemade sourdough toast with fresh blueberry and strawberry preserves. Probably the beast sausage links I have ever tried... so flavorful with a kick of spice to it. Delish! They have good hash browns too but they needed a bit of salt & pepper. Been in Anchorage a couple days before flying out to fishing lodge. Tried a few of the breakfast places that are top of the Yelp list with disappointment. We walked to Kriner's this morning from downtown - about a 1.5 mile walk. Well worth it. Hands down best breakfast in Anchorage. Had the best chicken fried steak I can remember. We live in Fairbanks and enjoy trying new places in Anchorage, when we come to visit. Lots to choose from, but Kriner's had no wait and were by far the friendliest on the phone when calling to inquire about wait time. Their menu is fun and unique. Every employee was smiley and friendly, but our waitress, Angela was especially kind. The food was delicious and very large portions. My wife and I had many special occasions like the night before our first child was born sitting in the diner enjoying a burger, fries and a coke. Yesterday on our 38th valentines day together we were in Anchorage and visited Kriner's Diner. They say food soothes the soul and evokes memories of wonderful times. From the moment We stepped through the door and immediately felt at home. The service was amazing, the atmosphere was warm and inviting and the Alaska Burger was exactly as we had remembered. My wife and I decided to come here specifically bc of a previous review that tried to turn a breakfast place political and man are we glad we did. The people here were so nice! The items in the menu are named after cousins, uncles, sister etc which is so cool. All the patrons were friendly and made with suggestions on where we should go and what we should do while we are here. Then the food... the portions are huge. Probably too huge for me who is on a diet. The homemade blueberry jam is unreal! And the waitress gave us a jar of it when we left. Amazing. But it was the pancakes... oh the pancakes which had the best flavor of any pancake I have honestly ever had. Now at first I was thinking this was bc I've been on a 90 day diet with no sugar but as I continued to eat it bite after bite I realized, NO, it was just the best pancake I've ever had! Kudos to this family for standing for what they believe in and as the leftists try and ruin everything in their wake, there is no way they will ruin this place! Very, very busy during weekend breakfast and brunch hours. It was just crowded and chaotic with waiters and waitresses hustling and bustling to meet the needs of all these hungry patrons. They were so busy, that it took them a bit to even acknowledge that we were waiting to be seated. This place is a bit small, and the layout seems a bit messy and doesn't flow well in my opinion. It could be so much more efficient. Speaking of efficient, I really liked the sense of teamwork that the waiters had. The service was as good as it could be, considering how busy it was when we were there. This restaurant is family friendly so bring anyone! I also think it's funny how the menus are printed on newsprint. When you walk in, it feels like being in the past since everyone looks like they're reading the morning paper. Their faces are just buried in that paper. The food you ask? Today I had the reindeer sausage skillet and I was pretty content with it, except it had very little reindeer sausage. It was very filling though and held me over for the rest of the afternoon. For $14.49 it's a generous amount of food. Honestly the breakfast looked and tasted very basic. The ingredients were all piled on top of each other on a skillet, but that was about it. I think what took away from the skillet feel is that the gravy for the biscuit was in a small plastic bowl, inside the skillet, with the rest if the food. The temperature was also not very skillet-like. We still enjoyed our visit and look forward to trying new items. There's so much potential, and I sure hope to see this place get more awesome. read more
