Lightning Fast Service and Delicious Breakfasts! We stopped by for a midmorning breakfast and were delighted by both the service and the food. Within 20 minutes of walking in, we were seated, served coffee and water, placed our order, and received our meals. We enjoyed classic breakfast favorites--fried eggs, patty sausage, biscuits and gravy, reindeer sausage--and the lightest, fluffiest, most perfectly prepared Belgian waffle. The experience was so impressive that we returned the next day to see whether it had been a fluke; it was not. The staff was just as friendly and efficient, and while the breakfast sandwich we added was delicious, I couldn't resist ordering another heavenly waffle. I strolled by the kitchen, a couple of times, to try and look to see what magic they were performing in the background, but their secret sauce is the people who work there! I'll preface this by saying that I've heard plenty of good things about Heidi's food, portions and cleanliness. So I really wanted this to become a regular spot for me. Unfortunately, after trying two weekends in a row, I'm giving up. I completely understand that weekend breakfast/brunch is going to be busy. Waiting isn't the issue. The check-in and seating process is just incredibly disorganized. Both visits I put my name on the waitlist. The first time, I specifically asked if I could take one of two open seats at the bar and was told I still needed to join the waitlist. I did, but guests who arrived after me were eventually seated at the bar ahead of me. The second weekend, essentially the same thing happened again. There also doesn't seem to be a clear way to tell who is actually waiting versus who has just arrived. Meanwhile, I watched larger tables that had been pushed together for bigger parties remain together after those parties left, then get reset and used for smaller groups rather than being separated again. That's a lot of usable seating sitting unnecessarily occupied when you have a lobby full of people waiting. When I asked the host during my first visit why someone behind me on the waitlist had been given the bar seat I'd originally asked about, I received an apology but no real explanation or resolution. On the positive side, after spending plenty of time waiting on both visits, I can certainly confirm what others have said about the restaurant being clean and the portions looking generous coming out of the kitchen looke I genuinely wanted to try Heidi's, and I still think it may be worth visiting during slower hours. But after two consecutive weekend experiences with the same seating issues, the problem feels less like "they were busy today" and more like a process that needs some attention. Since this place was just down the street from our hotel, we decided to give them a try. Not only was their service top-notch, but the food was great and reasonably priced (for Alaska)--we enjoyed it so much we ate here twice during our stay. The restaurant is very open and offers plenty of seating (more than enough for a large group). They're only open for breakfast & lunch, so plan accordingly. First visit/Breakfast: their chicken friend steak was the star of the show! Perfectly seasoned, tender and topped with delicious sausage gravy. Second visit/Lunch: Wonderfully perfect halibut sandwich was delicious and their kid's burger was pretty solid. Between the great food, friendly service and clean, spacious dining room Heidi's is definitely worth the trip! We will most definitely make a point to return next time we're in town. read more

Just the hubs and I on a visit from Iowa. We were quickly seated at a table, on a Tuesday. The waitress was friendly, outgoing and took our order promptly. I ordered the veggie omelet with no peppers nor mushrooms. I believe they mixed two much milk in their eggs I prefer my omelets with straight egg. The home fries were ok but I like the ones back home better. Hubs tried the reindeer sausage which reminded him of the ring bologna our parents fixed with sauerkraut when we were younger. Good but not great is how I would best describe our experience. Overall the place is nice, especially inside. The food was good & fresh, except the bacon was like chewing leather & too salty. Breakfast at Heidi's always good but never great. I ate here while I was in town on business a year ago and I just realized I didn't take any photos of rhe food?!?!?! Hahahahaha! Anyway, second time is the charm I guess. So the Halibut sandwich was good, flavor was good, the fish was tender and flaky, my server made a mistake and substituted the "American" cheese for Swiss but I loved it! LOL! Seriously made the sandwich taste better. I didn't eat the bun because to be brutally honest as I always am, the bun was of cheap, stale and poor quality, it was barely toasted and not buttered? Fail! The bun on my cheese burger was the same way. The burger itself was cooked perfectly medium well but it was a premade obviously Sysco quality burger which was poorly seasoned which was made more evident by the stale, cheap, poor quality bun. They did have Coke Zero which made me feel a little better. Also at the end of my meal I ended up having to get up from my table and go pay for my food since my server hadn't returned in 15 minutes after clearing my dirty dishes. This establishment was rated 4.5 in Yelp at the time of our visit. Well deserved rating! Our server, Nicole was gracious and followed up to see if the food met our expectations. It did for me and two others in our party. One of our party said the waffle was "meh". They have a history as a picky eater though. Coffee was good! 2 cups for me :0) I had the breakfast sandwich. You can choose how the eggs are cooked and selected bacon. It had cheese melted which combined everything nicely and tasted good! I took a photo. It has a large dining area. Good for small groups. We were looking forward to trying Heidi's, since Anchorage has some few diners, but we absolutely will never return for a number of reasons. The first is the value- 50 bucks for breakfast for 2 people - without the tip- is RIDICULOUS. Additionally thus place was packed and the parking lot and restaurant itself can't handle the volume of people. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, another 10 to place our order. Our coffee didn't come until after our meals came, which is unacceptable and the service was generally not very nice. The food was ok.. parts of it was good, other parts was awful. The corned beef was the best I've ever had in my life, the eggs and toast made me want to vomit. My husband said his steel cut oatmeal was perfect. It was all over the map. Here's my issue. The energy is ugly. Its microagressive ugly racist like Kriners is. If you're brown they treat you differently. We watched as our table and the table of other minorities got served after white people. Like WAY AFTER. And white people got extra little "oh would you like this that or the other" offerings while we didn't. They even have a few minorities in the kitchen and I can imagine their work experience is not very nice. And I will not patronize places like that. There are plenty of other places in Anchorage that treat people equally and are kind regarding of who you are. read more

I love this place. The food is great and the service is greater. We had breakfast. I finally got the sliced link reindeer sausage to find out what all the hype was about. It was very good. Still tasted a bit like pork but the reindeer came through and it was delightful. Not gamy. I found out later that all reindeer sausage has some pork in it. Who knew? I've been to Heidi's many times and usually like it. However, today's meal was a complete disappointment. I ordered the corned beef skillet with less potatoes and more vegetables. I got charged two extra dollars for "added vegetables," which were barely there. It was 99% potato. I asked for my eggs runny and got easy-over. There was barely any corned beef! The waitress added an UNREQUESTED bowl of gravy ("I thought you might enjoy that ") and charged me $3! WHAT? The portion was huge and the pancakes were good, but I don't appreciate being up-charged for something I didn't request, 99% potatoes, little meat , little veggies, and overcooked eggs. All the food we ate was delicious. Once we got a table, the service was excellent. The one complaint I would make would be that the process to get a table is not obvious. There's a sign saying to wait to be seated, but it wasn't clear that there was a list to put your name on. There was quite a back up of people waiting in front of the front desk and multiple people who came in after us got seated before we realized there was a list. Some extra signage to make it clear to get your name on the list would be nice. read more

Woke up and decided to try a new breakfast place on Sunday. We always go to a place in East Anchorage but like I said we wanted to try a new place. I came across this jewel. It wasn't crowded or as busy as I thought it would be, but it also was before church let out. I was waiting for the market to open at 11 so we had over an hour before they opened. We finally made our order and sat back and waited. It didn't take long for the mozzarella sticks to come out. They were hot and delicious, even though there was no cheese pull. We ate a few then the main attraction came out. My sister got the strip and eggs, hash browns crispy, and a pancake. That pancake was worth the drive over alone! The steak was cooked perfect except the food wasn't hot. I got the farmers skillet. It came with 2 eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, peppers, onions, ham, bacon and sausage topped with country gravy. I did ask for the gravy on the side since I wasn't sure I would like it. I tasted it and yeah I wasn't feeling it, so I added a little salt and pepper and still not liking it. So added a little hot sauce and it was still a no. The food was delicious but again my food wasn't hot, not even like warm. The only thing that was hot was the egg on top. The gravy wasn't even that warm either. We still ate the food but I did tell the waitress that the food didn't come out hot. I told her it's fine we are still eating the food because it's delicious. We will be back for sure because I need me a stack of those pancakes on my next trip. read more
