Dion (incase I'm incorrect, he looks like the younger version of Brandon Marshall) gave every last customer an enormous "welcome to KK & if you know what you want come to the counter please " greeting. & when I pose that special Vegan inquiry, he was quick on his dough draw by letting me know they had Kosher, yet no Vegan...Krispy Kudos to him for knowing. His jokingly side came out as he let me know the only Vegan products were the drinks...wise guy! My daughter decided on their signature glazed, hole in the middle treat. I saw the cup of doughnuts that displayed a &.99 sign. Yet again, he was quick to explain the need to purchase a bigger quantity to get the special price, so she copped 1 & was very satisfied. We actually saw the doughnuts being made & stacked with precision & watch the infamous sign illuminate to the redness they are so famous for. The store was in immaculate order & very tidy. I dig seeing their patriotic effort with the US Flag inserted in the middle of the lobby. As my daughter delighted in her hole-y than thou deliciousness of decadence, she schooled me on today being Alice Paul, the Women's Rights Activist birthday. Glad to see she was awake in her history classes LOL. With a slight wit of honoring, I told her due to the suffrage of us women, get another doughnut on her behalf...she hurriedly inclined. I was on an unassuming jaunt in Dupont Circle with my best friends when I saw the hot donut sign light up for the first time in my life. I HAD to go. The donut was soft, fluffy and warm - - just like a puppy -- but only more delicious! BTW, the pumpkin cheesecake donut is pretty good but doesn't have a strong pumpkin flavor like I expected so it's enjoyable but not a must try. This Krispy Kreme is conveniently located by the Dupont Circle Metro stop. On our way back home, we walked in on impulse and bought a box of donuts. I didn't, actually, but my friends did. I don't really have a sweet tooth, and Krispy Kreme's donuts don't really do it for me. It was pretty late so there was practically no line. While the smell of the donuts is pretty nauseating to me (and believe me, your nose will be assaulted when you walk in), Krispy Kreme gets a few stars since (1) they've closed shop in Southeastern Pennsylvania (where I am, as of this note), (2) they make my friends happy for relatively little money, and (3) it IS right next to a Metro stop. read more

Similar to a prior reviewer, I too had never been to an actual Krispy Kreme store until this point (my KK conduit was either convenience stores or student body org meetings with free food in college). I grew up in the northeast so the onmipresence of Dunkin probably contributed to this. Long have I heard the hype of Krispy Kreme over Dunkin (and perhaps this has set the bar too high for me). This specific location itself is situated very ideally right off Dupont Circle which makes it easy to get to. The store itself does seem a little dated both on the outside and inside. Maybe this is part of the appeal (similar to a diner), but given that DC has some excellent dessert options, even specifically in the donut department, it felt a bit uninspired to me. I was delighted to see that they had oreo donuts, so I asked for one of those. My companion at this point decided to inform the attendant that it was my first ever time at a Krispy Kreme and he very graciously pulled out a donut out of the back that freshly glazed and piping hot and offered it to me for free to try. This customer service/level of generosity is the thing I appreciated the most about the store (and what has brought me back to the store since my first visit). Nonetheless, the donut quality is fine when compared to dunkin (although I did not feel that it was notably better as many others do), but KK donuts pale in comparison to the gourmet donut scene (District, Sugar Shack). The oreo donut specifically was fine although a bunch of the oreo parts fell off upon my picking the donut up. The glazed donut on the other hand (maybe this is personal preference) was far too aggressively heavy/sweet and left me feeling a bit queasy. Right as I come in, I felt a sad presence. It didn't really seem like people felt like they wanted to be in there. I ordered a dozen original glazed donuts, and as I bit into one, I thought that I would have been blown away by the soft pillows of dough encased in a sweet sweet glaze... but honestly, it tasted way too oily. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes I've gone in the middle of the day, and half of the doughnuts are out of stock. Other times, they have a full selection. The reason I'm giving them four stars instead of five is because when they are out of stock of most of the doughnuts, I end up with a lackluster doughnut. My favorite is the chocolate iced glazed, but you can't go wrong with the original iced glazed either. The HOT light is always on when I walk by, and like my mom always says, "Fresh is best!" It really is. When the original iced glazed is straight off the belt, you can't beat the warm, pillowy soft, sugary goodness of a Krispy Kreme doughnut. It's never too crowded, and service is always quick. I can always count on this location to get me in, out, and on with life. This place is within walking distance of where I work, and sadly, those doughnuts RARELY make it back to the office - you can't just get them while they're hot, you have to eat them while they're hot too! Oh Krispy Kreme, you donut how much I've missed you! Fun Fact: Krispy Kreme was started in Winston Salem, North Carolina. My hometown! I personally prefer Krispy Kreme yeast based donuts than Dunkin Donuts cake based. There's just something about biting into a fluffy donut that immediately melts in your mouth. Plus when the "Hot Now" sign is shimmering in it's red glory, that's an automatic visit for me. Biting into a warm donut is one of the most satisfying moments you'll ever have experience. They have monthly/seasonal donuts (which features 3-4 specialty donuts). I'm old fashioned and prefer the original glaze. They do have filling donuts, donut holes, apple fritters, cake donuts (ew), and coffee! I tend to get an espresso (~$1) and go about my way. Space is kinda small. Somehow they managed to put seating inside it. The store is triangle shaped and with the base of the store allocated to customers. The tip has the red hot sign and to the left of the store, there is the famed glazing machine where the donuts go to fulfill their lives of being sweet (dawww). It's also conveniently right off the Dupont South Metro stop, so if you are in the area and need a sweet pick me up. This should be on your list! read more

So I was very excited when I noticed there was a Krispy Kreme doughnut location right near my hotel as I love these doughnuts but being from NJ I do not get the opportunity to have them often. However that excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I entered. The staff at this location was very rude especially the cashier. Once we placed our order we were practically forgotten about as other customers received their orders and left while we still waited. Once we received our order the "hot fresh" doughnuts were neither. This was very disappointing. I did also have the chocolate glaze cake doughnut which was very good. They're open 24hrs on the weekend and there is NOTHING better than ending a night out with two hot, fresh donuts. If you're out anywhere even remotely close to DuPont (everywhere), you owe it to yourself to get a donut or two before calling it a night (or a dozen, because WHY NOT? and who doesn't like waking up hungover with breakfast already ready?). It's conveniently located right across from one of the Metro escalators (ride down the escalators while eating donuts!). The store has this grime and feels like it needs to be wiped down from counter to floor. Krispy Kreme's Hot Light is one of the most beautiful sights that you could see walking around DC after a night out with your friends. Knowing that the donuts inside these doors are hot and fresh is about as comforting as I imagine what it's like to take a nap on a cloud as you float through the sky filled with rainbows. Much to my dismay, the hot glazed donuts at this location pale in comparison to hot light donuts at the other locations. I should have known something was up when the conveyor belt wasn't churning out dozens at a time like they do at one in Alexandria. I guess they stop making them late at night but keep the hot light on while they're still "hot"? My friend was ready to house almost a dozen to himself but I helped him reign it in and we ordered a dozen, hot glazed pillows of sugar. The doughnuts are good, but I just had one of the worst customer service experiences in my life. I ordered an apple fritter, which was advertised for $1.99 above the register as a special deal. After paying, I noticed on the receipt that I paid $2.09 before tax (i.e. $2.30 total). I kindly asked what the disparity was about, specifically if the promotion period has ended. The cashier says it's due to sales tax, but then I show him the receipt showing otherwise. He starts screaming at the top of his lungs over and over again "I don't know!" so that the whole place starts to pay attention to what's going on. Then he started to lunge over the counter, in what I feel to be an aggressive move. All of this commotion simply because I pay attention to the numbers. I left without saying anything, but I can say one thing here- that's false advertising and it is illegal. And I consider the cashier's actions to be retaliation and potential harassment for pointing it out. Perhaps the deal ended, and it would've been no problem to me, but the way the cashier handled it was incredibly unprofessional and honestly grounds for termination. The cashier's name is Matthew (#325). I still have the receipt if management is interested. read more
