So, this was my second time coming to Georgetown Cupcake but my first time actually indulging and I was not disappointed. We came late Saturday morning and there was no line. The cashier provided quick, genuine recommendations, which I greatly appreciated. With that, I opted to try the Cherry Cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious. So much so, the afterthought was that I wished the cupcake was bigger. My friend also thoroughly enjoyed the marshmallow cupcake which is on the list to try next. Disappointed. This morning 5/21, I ordered cupcakes for my daughter's college graduation on 5/22. With a delivery date of 5/21. Stephanie initially assisted me with the order, including the long-distance delivery fee from Georgetown to Fairfax. When the cupcakes arrived, the specified "Class of 2026" decorations were missing. Instead, the cupcakes simply said "Congratulations Graduate." Ellie initially handled my call and offered to make things right; however, it took multiple phone calls to resolve the issue. What was most disappointing was being told that the order had been packed with the "2026" decorations, which essentially questioned my honesty as the customer. I even had to provide photos as proof. Ellie contacted the owners, whose only proposed solution was refunding half my money. That was unacceptable. I have a college graduate to celebrate tomorrow, and instead of receiving empathy and accountability, I felt dismissed. It also felt as though the delivery to Fairfax was being framed as a favor, despite the fact that I paid the long-distance delivery fee. It ultimately took Stephanie clarifying and confirming my original order before the issue was finally corrected. While Ellie eventually rectified the situation, I'm appalled by how this was handled overall. The lack of empathy and professionalism from ownership was incredibly disappointing. This place has been on my DC bucket list for the longest time, and unfortunately I had no idea the disappointment I was in for. The cupcakes themselves were all very dry, the frosting was honestly so average, and the flavors were honestly pretty mid and forgettable. I am glad we only got three cupcakes to try because these were pricey for the quality of cupcake, and it just did not feel worth it. The store overall seemed so dull and devoid of life, which made the whole experience even more underwhelming. All the cupcakes looked pretty dry sitting there, and they ran out of flavors pretty quickly, which was surprising and a bit disappointing. The chocolate ganache was a little less impressive. I thought the cake portion was dry. Flavor was okay. The ganache was good though. I do believe all the white cake bases are the same with some confetti in there and all the chocolate bases are the same. Of course the one flavor I wanted (carrot cake) was not on the menu that day but the only way to know that is after waiting the 45 minutes to get inside where you can see the daily menu tucked away in a corner. The website is not reflective of the availability. If there's a flavor you really must try, then go inside to check if it's available before waiting. My backup flavor was also not available which was only made known to me as I ordered. I understand that maybe they had just run out and hadn't had time to update the menu. They closed all the shops on the west coast and when I did mail order it was a hot mess. Glad I could go to the store in Georgetown and buy them there. Line is still long but moves quickly. Maybe 3 tables there to sit down so assume you're taking your cupcake and drink to go enjoy elsewhere. It's warm and crowded so not the most ideal to sit down for a relaxing moment and definitely not for a group. Pricey for sure but for a once in a while treat, worth it. I decided to try them again. It's been over 10 years since I last tried them. Everything still stands. The line is not worth the wait, sadly, even 10 years later. The staff seemed overwhelmed. They were not engaging at all. Just hi, what's your order, then here's your order, done. Nothing to it really. Just another customer. Using one door to go in and out is hard. People stand in the door way causing such a jam to get in and out. Once inside it is cramped and it's pretty much a grab and go set up. I remember seeing a table or two, but it's not relaxing to sit in the chaos. The cupcakes did not look appealing. They appeared dry looking and that they have been sitting there a while. They are your standard cupcake just like you wiuld make at home. The cost is about $4 a cupcake. Which is reasonable. I opted for just the classics, a chocolate cake with white icing, known as the chocolate birthday and then I ordered a yellow cake with chocolate icing. The chocolate birthday was pretty good. But I tried my friend pumpkin cheesecake it was ok. It did not have a sting pumpkin spice flavor along with the icing. My yellow cake with chocolate icing was similar, it was lacking something. It maybe better with an icing similar to the chocolate birthday cake. But, maybe that's preference. There were two girls behind my friend and I complimenting how the cupcakes looked dried and not appealing. They then made the comment that maybe that's because they maybe the display cupcakes. I finally turned and asked if they had tried Baked and Wired down the road. They had said they knew of it , but went for Georgetown because they seemed popular. They asked why were they so popular and I said I can only assume it was because they were on a show at one point in time, but that was a long long time ago. As I always say... as a gluten free person, I am so thankful to have an option (and a very tasty one at that)! The line is usually extremely long and requires a wait - unless you come during an "off time" (maybe like a weekday in the morning or something). And as you'll see - the line is there for a reason! ^Even with the line, the service moves quickly and I think they are as efficient as they can be for the number of customers they serve. Oh my God, we HAD to stop here for the cupcakes we've been seeing all over social media. I mean, how could we not? And BONUS for us, it was Valentine's weekend, so they went overboard with the chocolate and strawberry decadence. And honestly, zero complaints. The atmosphere here is exactly what you would expect from a cupcake shop. It's bright, lots of white, lots of pink, and smells of delicious baked goods. Only, the baked goods aren't all that delicious. All the cupcakes I tried were so dry. They definitely could have used more oil in the recipes, a little time in the fridge right after baking, or maybe they were all just old. Regardless, they were all dry. The cream cheese frosting on the red velvet was too cream cheese heavy. It needed more powdered sugar to balance the flavors. The lava cupcake was only mediocre because of the ganache in the middle. Otherwise it would have been drier than the others. The coffee cookies and crème was super dry as well. You also could barely get the coffee flavor. It would have been better if the buttercream had more espresso in it. The service was fine. They moved people through quickly and efficiently and were nice enough. I wouldn't go again. They do have seating to the left of the store, but not much. As for the cupcakes, I ordered the Red Velvet, Cherry Cheesecake, and Lemon Cheesecake. The weight of them alone told me that I had something special. I've never had cheesecake cupcakes before, and the presentation alone was something to behold. The icing was like softened butter, and the cheesecake was baked amazingly. The graham bottom was flaky and firm, and the cherry and lemon flavors were just the right amount. Came here and was decent busy, not the friendliest staff and decent food. Keeping the review short since there isn't much to say. The cupcakes themselves were dry, the only good frosting was the frosting on the regular cupcakes. The ganache tasted like a very rich, dark chocolate, wasn't bad, but station the cupcakes itself was dry. It was a very upscale inside with very few seats, which were absolutely disgusting from all the dirt, trash, and crumbs that were on the table and the floor. We sat on the back corner inside which would've been cool to watch them decorate and bake, but instead there were two employees sitting on their phones with gloves on. Really hoping they changed their gloves before and after each phone use. Had an issue as well that the cashier couldn't anger any questions about what they cupcakes were or how they tasted, or anything about them without looking on the screen or in the display. We don't live in this area, but definitely would've come back. I first came to visit Georgetown Cupcake back in 2014 and still in 2024 they are soooo busy. We stopped by to pick up cupcakes for our mom midday on a Saturday and as soon as we walked up there was at least 30 people in front of us. The inside was packed and the line continued outside on the sidewalk. With the heat and everyone being so close I was so tempted to jump out of the line and just go to Whole Foods but decided to stick it out. Once inside it's still very crowded and you can see the flavor options of what's left only a couple of minutes before paying for the cupcakes. I wish that there were updated menus passed to the line outside to help speed up the decision process. It does look like you can sit inside and enjoy your cupcakes and coffee but to me it didn't look like there was much seating and overwhelmingly crowded. We ordered the coconut, key lime and the salted caramel. I wasn't really a fan of any of the flavors but my mom loved them. If you're wanting Georgetown cupcakes I would recommend coming during the week maybe even in the morning to avoid the line or going to Whole Foods.
