I recently stopped by Krispy Krunchy Chicken located on Eden Way near Greenbrier Mall. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but don't be fooled by outside appearances. The chicken here is excellent. I got an 8 piece family meal served with 2 sides and 4 made from scratch biscuits. For the sides, I selected Green Beans and Collard Greens, both were delicious. The fried chicken here is amazing. For me the best fried chicken I've had in the area. If you're not doing in I recommend you order ahead as they cook your chicken when you order it, so you can end up waiting 20-25 minutes if you don't. But it IS worth the wait! I don't know how they are able to get the chicken so flavorful, crunchy, and moist. We had the 12 piece dark, family meal with mashed potatoes and gravy, which are really good also. When I picked up the tender it flexed like a raw piece of meat so when I broke a piece off fully expecting to find the chicken uncooked, I found it fully cooked and juicy!! Juicy, people!! I asked for honey mustard and sweet and sour sauces. I found my favorite was the honey mustard. The fries was super hot! I had to let them sit a minute. The mashed taters and gravy were yummy too. Those honey biscuits were like a dessert!! The atmosphere got a 4 because the lobby tables and such were dirty with crumbs. It was crunchy, very flavorful and the meat was still juicy and tender. The mac and cheese, jambalaya, and the mashed potatoes were very tasty. The guy at the counter was very nice and patient with us, since we took a while figuring out what we actually wanted. There is another part next door where they sell desserts and with more dining space but that side was closed. This place has seriously impressed me. Customer service was great. I used to go to Royal Farms but after many and I mean many disappointments we decided to try this place and I am so happy we did. The chicken is always fresh. The greens are always on point. The green beans are fire and the cabbage is so good. I tried their beans and rice before and those too are delicious as well. My husband has had a bunch of things from them. So many I can't even remember but he said he has had nothing but delicious food. If you want fried chicken or good comfort food, this is the place to go. The folks are always friendly and have the best customer service ever. In fact when they see my husband walk through the door, they start making the order. Not sure if that's a good thing lol but it makes us feel like we are welcomed. So forget Royal Farms and head over to KKC instead. Best in town. read more

Krispy Krunchy Chicken is a no-frills kind of spot. They offer some decent food at decent prices and let that do the talking for them. They are located across the street from Greenbrier Mall (just past and opposite the Red Robin), tucked away in a tiny strip mall. Their establishment is small and there are maybe 3-4 tables and a seating bar. They clearly are set up for take out but that's all good. What's probably most important is their food - I think their chicken is very good. The skin is crunchy (it better be!) and the meat is tender. KKC's chicken kind of reminds me of Popeye's - there's a little kick that you can taste with each bite. I got a 3-piece which came with 2 sides - two pieces were cooked perfectly while the third was a little dry. I'll take it, though, because it still tasted good. The sides were so-so. The biscuit I had was tough. I'm sure that's not the norm but I had to wash down the biscuit with each bite. My second side, the jambalaya, was dry. In fact, their jambalaya seemed more like dirty rice because I'm used to jambalaya served in some sort of broth. KKC's jambalaya came in one of those small styrofoam containers and had no broth at all. That may be their standard so I can't say definitively their rice qualifies as jambalaya. So the chicken is good, the sides (overall) aren't. And this is more of an eatery, so I wouldn't plan on dining in. If you get only the chicken and stay away from the sides, you should be good to go. Good chicken, but very inconsistent. My usual order here is some fried chicken and some chicken tenders. Sometimes the fried chicken is off other times the tenders are off. Very rarely do you get both on point at the same time. Tonight the tenders tasted off. Like they were old. Into the trash they went. The fried chicken tasted great though. Friday, January 5, was our first day and our last day visiting this restaurant in Weston Town Center. Two out of a party of four ordered, chicken tenders, thinking that we shouldn't go wrong with tenders, but was a very bad choice since the tenders were chewy and didn't have any flavor at all. For a "fast food" spot, this place is DEFINITELY on point. I've been patronizing this establishment since the new owners took over, pre-pandemic. The services always on point. The chicken definitely delicious. I introduced myself to the "chicken gizzards "and I have not been able to walk into this establishment with out ordering them. By the way; I get the gizzards "medium." The only issue I've had with them is that if they are out of hot sauce, they will charge you for a hot sauce container and you have to then pour the hot sauce into the container yourself. Petty? Yes. The fried chicken is tasty. We had to smell it in the car on the drive back home as there is no dine in right now with the coronavirus pandemic. It was brutal for me and my kids, but we managed to make it home, wash our hands and started to eat. I will say I can be a little picky on fried chicken being too salty. As you eat, you can see where each piece of chicken had the flavor of the brine injected in to the meat. It was a darker bright orange color. I initially surprised as all the other fried chicken I have eaten in my life do not have that inside the meat. At least enough for me to noticed. I ordered the fried liver and gizzards as I use to get those at my local Pollards, but the one near me closed up. They offer the livers in soft, medium and hard. I got the medium but they did not give me too much of the liver and the texture was closer to hard then medium. I think it may have also been due to the liver pieces being rather small. I still prefer Pollards. I will say I didn't even get a chance to take a photo of the chicken cause we destroyed it once we got home. I did not get any of their side items. So I can't comment on those, but they had a long list of option I returned a few weeks later for more fried chicken and this time ordered some sides. For almost $5 a side it was not worth it. The container wasn't full and at most I would estimate the large Container to be about 20 oz. we had a much larger order and even though I told them I would wait for a fresh batch they gave me the rest of the chicken they had sitting in the display case. Since they didn't have enough breast pieces they swapped out wings for white meat- we all know that isn't the same thing when you order chicken pieces. I really wanted to love this place but what I found was mediocre chicken at a premium price. I've had this spot on my radar for a while and finally stopped in yesterday around 4:30PM. There's plenty of free parking available in the shopping center's private lot though you can only enter and exit in one direction so be prepared to wait through a line of traffic to make a u-turn. Upon entering the restaurant you will find a small space. The main menu is on an overhead board above the order counter, it's illuminated so reading it is very easy. There is also a chalkboard on the wall which details additional items and specials available. There are a few booths in the restaurant if you want to eat in but this appears to be primarily a takeout establishment asd seating is very limited. Don't come in with a full bladder because there's a printed sign posted right at eye level in the center of the main entrance door that says "NO PUBLIC RESTROOM." This is actually a health code violation as a restaurant with customer seating is required to provide a public restroom for its customers. The two young people behind the counter were very friendly and helpful, they seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The young lady took my order for an eight-piece mixed order of chicken and three biscuits (one blueberry and two honey butter). I paid with my VISA card and received my order from the young man about a minute later. I drove home and eagerly put the chicken on plates for my wife and I to enjoy. Alas, enjoyment was not to be found as the chicken was just not very good. My wife took one bite of a wing and remarked, "this is terrible" before she got up from the table and made some fish and a salad for dinner. My reaction wasn't as extreme, I just found the chicken to be kind of bland and uninspired. For a restaurant that calls itself "Krispy Krunchy Chicken" the bird just wasn't very crispy or crunchy or even tasty. It was also rather dry and lacking in flavor. I have a feeling it just may have sat under the heat lamps for too long as it wasn't a busy time of day. The blueberry biscuit was nice but the honey butter biscuits were dry and hard. Overall, my first experience with Krispy Krunchy Chicken was a fail. You can easily find better fried chicken at Popeyes, Farm Fresh, Bojangles, Feather-N-Fin, Fry Basket, Moseberth's, Pollard's, Southland Trade, Golden Corral, the corner gas station, the freezer section of your local supermarket, etc... Truth be told, it was pretty bad which really leaves me scratching my head over all the stellar reviews on this page. I do notice that only one other Yelp Elite member, Steffie A, has reviewed this restaurant and she rated it even lower than I did. Had no expectations. Ordered Krispy chicken & fish plus mac and cheese & jambalaya. SO GOOD!!! The chicken was perfectly battered and perfectly fried. Honey mustard that comes with is so creamy and sweet, loved it. It was the perfect compliment to some great fried chicken. The fish was fantastic! Lightly battered so it didn't overpower any of the flavor or texture of the fish. It was flaky enough to fall apart in your hand! Beware! Didn't come with tartar sauce (we got it to go, so maybe they forgot or it doesn't come with) so I poured tabasco on it. Perfect combo. Next time we're going to get some kaiser rolls and make fish filet sandwiches. Can't wait! Mac and cheese was deliciously creamy. The noodles were slightly al-dente which added an enjoyable element. Jambalaya had slight heat to it, perfect balance of rice and meat. Would order all of these items again! However, biscuits were hard as rocks. But, after this last visit, I will NEVER step foot in there again! I ordered the regular chicken. After I got home, it turns out I got the much spicier Cajun chicken. The biscuits were so hard, I literally knocked on the table with them. The pineapple tea was almost pure pineapple juice. The greens had a long, stringy, weird, piece of mystery goo in them. Today I went into this place to ask a question and as I walked up to the door, the cashier was hanging out of the door telling a customer that her card was declined. I waited for her to step back in the building so I could ask a question. I said hello and asked what type of desserts did they sell. There was no one waiting in line. She cut me off and said the guy that was sitting down at the bar was next. I said I simply have a question and proceeded to ask the question again. She then cut me off and said read the board and dismissed me. There were only 2 types of cobbler on the board. I asked because often there are items for sale that are not listed on the board so I always ask. I've spent hundreds of dollars in this store since moving to the area and I have never been addressed with such poor customer service. The wonderful lady that used to be there all of the time was not there. She was so kind and gave my kids fruit snacks while we waited on our food. The last few times there have been teenagers at the register that seemed irritated that the business had customers. It's been a while since I have stopped by and it will be a long while if ever before I return. I walked away quietly as my kids were waiting in the car. I had planned to order mutliple dinners and desserts for the family but I'll take my money somewhere that's appreciated. It's Greenbrier, there's plenty to choose from. I love me some fried chicken. This location is not far from office in Chesapeake. KKC is on the other side of Eden Way north across Red Robin. It's beside a 7-11 and Barbershop. It's small with high chairs to sit while waiting for your order. The booths are roped off vector COVID. I ordered the 8 piece dark. The wait was 15 minutes. The chicken came right out the fryer and placed in a card board container and wrapped in plastic. Went straight home and removed the chicken from its container. What I liked about the chicken was tit was not heavily breaded. There was a hint of spice ness. Could have used more spice but all in all it was tasty, freshly cooked and hot right out of the fryer. High prices for small portions. The worst customer service I've ever experienced in the 757 area-- from the cash register to "the store manager." I placed my order and waited over 30 minutes, after I asked how much longer it would be, I was told by The cashier that everything was made fresh (it wasn't, just the smothered pork chop was)--- three people ordered after me and received their orders. After I received the smothered pork chop order, I opened it and the order of rice did not even fill the section for the side. Also, the cash register did not work and I had to wait in order to pay.
