My husband and I love a good seafood boil, so we are regulars at Pier 88. I usually get the crab legs with added sausage, and he goes for the shrimp with no head. We always split a side of white rice and mix it with the sauce to soak up all the flavor. So good. Service is usually fast, which is great when we're really hungry and want something quick. Another bonus: they have Coke Zero, which most restaurants don't have as a fountain drink. We get the hushpuppies as an app, which taste great, though the downside is that they only offer liquid butter. But that doesn't stop us from coming back! read more

This was my first time here. The prices were so good and hard to believe. I chose the 1 lb. Boiled clams with a red potato and a corn on the cob in a mild butter garlic sauce that is presented in a plastic boiling bag in a lipped plate. It was delicious! My daughter on one of the low country boils with snow crab, shrimp, sausage and red potato in the same mild butter sauce also presented in a bag. Pier 88 is a place I usually stop at when I'm in the area and in the mood for seafood. This visit was okay, the food was decent, though my shrimp was a bit overcooked. We came in late, and the staff told us right away that they were closing and only had a limited menu. We didn't feel like going anywhere else, so we ordered takeout. I do wish the message had been delivered a little more kindly, but if you're looking for quick takeout, the food gets the job done. read more

I don't know how we've never visited this restaurant until now, but I'm glad if finally came up on our radar when we were searching for wome Calamari. Right off, we loved the vibe! Maybe it had to do with writing being ALL OVER the walls. I thought it was art until i started noticing the names and dates. Note to self: bring a pen or marker next time. New Englander's visiting the area and looking for seafood.... Don't order the oysters! We were recently in town for a wedding and thought Virginia Beach must be a good place for seafood, right? Well, I bet it is. But for this lunchtime visit we were pretty disappointed, starting with the oysters. They were dry, warm, and served on a thin bed of ice covered with cellophane (and they were still warm). Our server was totally caught off guard by our order too. Would you like some horseradish or vinegar for those? (We found out later they have cocktail sauce, just simply didn't think to offer it for oysters on the half shell. The rest of our dining experience was okay, but not great. Our server came by once or twice in the beginning to ask if we wanted anything else, but then spent the rest of our time there chatting with her colleagues. The Cajun fries were very lack luster and my Poh Boy was pretty boring. I'm not suggesting you'll have a similar experience. The decor is pretty funky if formulaic and knowing what I know now, I think we should have ordered one of the seafood boils they specialize in. Too bad we didn't go that route. read more

We came here for a retirement party. It was midday and it wasn't many people inside. It seems like they have no problem accommodating large parties. The waiter was nice. They didn't have a lot of people serving at that time, so service was a little bit slow. There were 12 people so that could be what the delay was. The restaurant was clean with a good amount of seating. 18% gratuity is added to your bill for parties of more than 5 people. When we ordered I noticed Cajun rice and soft shell crabs weren't on the menu. So I was a little disappointed. I ordered the lemon pepper wings, calamari, a shrimp basket, and corn. The calamari was cooked well, very crispy, but definitely not seasoned. But still good, especially with the sweet chili sauce. The sauce was delicious. I'd certainly get it again. You get 15 in an order . I've never known anyone to count the calamari, lol. But ok. The shrimp were battered well, but again lacked seasoning. They were battered nicely. I'd recommend asking for seasoning on the side. But again, they were good enough. The lemon pepper on the wings is kinda underwhelming. So if you expect something flavorful don't get lemon pepper. They were ok with the ranch though. The fries we ok and so were the hush puppies. The prices are pretty reasonable for the baskets and sides. The boils are a little pricier. I tried my mom's boil and it was slightly bland. You definitely gotta shake the bag up real good. The food was good enough. I was looking for a good place to get wings and inexpensive drinks on a Sunday, and a friend recommended Pier 88. It did not disappoint! They have happy hour on Sundays from 12-9 with a bunch of food specials and a number of mixed drinks, beers, wines, and shots for no more than $5! I had the 6 lemon pepper wings for $5, and they were VERY good! I had 2 tequila sunrise and a shot - both drinks were made very strong! Our server was super nice and very attentive. I'm sure everyone wanted to take advantage of the awesome prices. Boil bags were 2 for 50, various appetizers started at 2.50, with drinks starting at 3.50. Half dozen Raw oysters- They were prime size and chilled. They were pretty good but, I had to add a wee bit more hot sauce and horseradish to taste. Fried Oysters-Nicely fried but, lacked seasoning. Also was served cold. Fried Shrimp - These came out nicely sized, seasoned and hot. Build your own Boiling bag: Cajun medium seasoned Clams, Crawfish, and a Lobster tail. The bag came out hot. All seafood in boil was perfectly cooked. I enjoyed my choice of seasoning. I will say although the seasonings of food had its highs and lows, all seafood was fresh. Service... The atmosphere was such a vibe with music that will have you dancing while you eat those crab legs LOL! The place is clean and have a cool ocean theme-like decor. I did my order to go and got the C1 entree: crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob and an egg. They were all so delish! I can go without the sausage tho. The sauce flavor was very seasoned but not too salty surprisingly. I did the medium flavor but it wasn't that spicy so I could have went for the hot. Upon walking into this place we were hopeful. Music was nice vibe was cool. But once we were seated, all of our hopes died. We waited 15 minutes before the hostess came and asked us for drinks. They did not disappoint, the King Crab Leg were delivered hot and they were absolutely delicious! I appreciate the care and time this restaurant took to properly pack these crab legs so that they arrived perfectly contained with no spills. Took my daughter here for a crab boil, something we both enjoy. My first time here but it won't be my last. Easy to find off of Sam's circle, so lots of parking available. Huge on the inside, but it was quiet while we were there. Apparently you can write on the walls, which adds to the vibe here. I ordered Snow Crab legs and clams boil (create your own) which also came with two pieces of corn and 3 potatoes. We got the garlic butter with mild spice. Everything was delicious. The crab was cooked well and wasn't sticking to the shell, it was easy to break apart and get out. A nice dip into the boil, and bam! Delicious. Prices are what you'd expect, not cheap, but not really expensive either. They provide plastic bins and gloves to help ensure you don't leave wearing your meal. We did order hush puppies also, but the waitress must not have heard, and by the time I realized, I was full enough, and didn't want to wait. It wasn't on the check, so no harm, no foul. read more

I LOVE me a good seafood boil, but especially when it's Viet-Cajun style! I had a fave spot in our last duty station in Savannah (Juicy Seafood), but I have been reluctant to find one here out of fear that I would be met with disappointment. However, Pier 88 is my first stop in CoVa and it was great! One night, after an event, I found myself looking for some late night eats and thankfully I found Pier 88! It's located in Chesapeake, on Sam's Circle area of businesses. Most restaurants seem like they kept their pandemic hours (understandably), so it's been hard to find a spot to eat late in the night, so don't get hungry late. One thing to note is, Pier 88 stops taking walk-ins by 10 or 10:30pm (an hour before they are about to close). That was a bit surprising that it was a whole hour. I was so hungry and knew that nothing good was waiting for me in my fridge at home, so I pleaded nicely and I think she felt bad for me LOL. I had walked in JUST at the cut off so she let our group sit down. They seem to take mostly take out orders for that last hour. I have never eaten a seafood boil that fast in my life and wish I had more time to savor it, but it was late and everyone wants to go home, so better to have eaten than not at all, right? We ordered a bag of shrimps, mussels and crab legs in the Pier 88 special sauce. It seems that every Viet-Cajun place has the "special" sauce which is all the 3 sauces mixed into one . The flavor was really good! Things to note: - Get a bowl of rice to soak up all the good juices at the bottom - If you're having shrimp, you can pay the extra money for them to take off the heads, but why? Spend it on the rice! - If you don't know, it can get messy. Your boil will come in a bag, but they will equip you with bibs, napkins, wet naps, buckets etc. Dig in and enjoy! Like I said, we ate quite quickly, so I hope to go back another time and give myself more time to enjoy. And Lady at Pier 88, thank you for letting my friends and I stay and eat. What can I say? We came for dinner when they first opened and it was so good! This past Saturday evening we went again. What a disappointing visit! Food was good. Not great but good (I'll give kudos to the shrimp which was very good). Service was an abomination! Our waitress never once acknowledged us after the first "hello". She would rush by our table, no eye contact, never a question as how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Had to flag her down while dining, then after asking for a "to go" box after all was said and done, she never returned. Ended up getting a "to go" box from the hostess (who was on a cell phone when I approached and I needed to wait for her to finish her call). I truly HATE to say this, but is it because we were a gay couple or the only guests in the establishment who were not African Amercan? Not only did they have bad service they cheated us out of a ENTIRE CLUSTER OF CRABS, plus, they charged us for the missing cluster. We went on a Monday night and we were able to walk in and get seated right away. We ordered a Seafood Boil, the Fried Whiting Po'boy and the Fried Catfish and Shrimp and it was all so fresh and tasted great. The waitress was very personable and our food came out pretty quick. My friend and coworker, Rob D., goes on and on about this place so I thought I'd give it a try to see if it lives up to his hype. New flash, it does. I stopped in, looked over the menu and placed an order to go. The young lady at the reception station was friendly and helpful, she was able to answer my questions and made me feel welcomed. I couldn't help but notice everything appeared very neat and clean. The hostess said my order would be ready in about ten minutes. That seemed pretty quick to me. I had a seat on a bench to wait and sure enough, my order was ready in ten minutes. The bag smelled wonderful and I couldn't wait to get home to see just how good it was. I ordered two of the signature low country boils. First, the C2 combo of lobster tail, shrimp, mussels, sausage, boiled egg, potato and corn. Next, I ordered the C4 combo of dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, potatoes and corn. I added a half pound of sausage to the C4. Sauce choices are lemon pepper, cajun, garlic butter and 88 special. I went with the recommended 88 special. My next choice was the level of heat. Non spicy, mild, medium, hot and extra hot. I chose hot and found it pretty spicy but next time I will probably bump it up to extra hot. Each order was boiled in its own bag and tied up nicely. Nary a drop leaked into the paper bag enclosure. I was impressed with the inclusion of everything needed to enjoy the meal. Napkins, flatware, hand wipes, even plastic gloves and bibs to protect our clothing. I don't even know how to describe how much I enjoyed the meal. Everything was fresh, hot, well seasoned and very delicious. Literally, finger licking good. So many places overcook seafood but Pier 88 nailed it. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every item. Prices aren't cheap but the food is absolutely divine and portions are ample. This is a good place to eat and unwind! They have happy hour food and drink specials from 3-7 PM, which is a plus. The service is good. The food comes pretty fast too! I forgot to take pictures, but the seafood boil was good. My only con is the corn was a little dry. But, I'd still go back - just ask for no corn. I love the name of the restaurant . It reminds me of summer, beach and fun. They sure tried to portray it on the decorations inside. But from the moment you walk in I'm already excited of the place. The front entrance is kind of funky and classy with all the writings on the wall. Then you walk in inside and you will see a cut out pirate that adults can take a picture. The place is organized and the bar is separate from the private dining tables. We came in at 10pm but ordered ahead of time so the food is ready already. The place at this time is quieter and calm. The hostess and the waitress are very attentive and quick to provide our requests. I'm beginning to like going at this time of the night coz you don't feel rushed. Even the parking has free spaces. Found this to be your typical seafood boil in a bag place. Service was good. Inside was clean and inviting. Had one child with us (other kids at a birthday party). She got a kick out of signing her name on the wall in Sharpie. Its looks kind of messy now with all the writing on the furniture but I'm sure it will look cooler after it ages and gets filled up with names. This kind of meal is very filling. It doesn't seem like it would be since its mostly seafood and some potatoes and corn. However, we ordered two combos and by the end of our seafood binge, still had plenty left over to take home.
