The sting beans were not seasoned and had a huge slice of uncooked bacon on them, hush puppies were cold and hard and the baked potato was old hard and cold. Well, the Pirate's Cove use to be my go to place for she crab soup. Today the soup was a bit tangy for our taste. I don't mind paying the money as long as the food is worth it. Pirate's cove used to be worth it including the wait. Well, the wait is over and so is the great seafood. It seems like they have been going down ever since they increased the prices for Covid. I can't see paying their prices for mediocre food. Service is fine and the ambience is appropriate for the restaurant. I hope they go back to quality. read more

Pros Fish HOT and well seasoned Cole slaw solid. Crunchy and slightly sweet like I like it. Cons Hush puppies were DRY on the inside. The crust was moist and the inside was dry. Maybe a bad batch? They were pretty busy and to be honest, I don't remember even going in the back. There was so much room. They had a lot of birthdays being celebrated as well. Our server Melissa was wonderful. Great food. We had a large crowd, approximately 50-60 people. Everyone was treated great, service, timely and on point. The owner introduced himself John T. Super nice guy and very proud of his staff and the food and service they provide. He also spoke of the tremendous support he received from the locals continuing to come to the restaurant during the government shutdowns and mandates. The ambiance was a typical seafood pub feel. Hard wooden chairs and booth benches and decorations that give you a on the sea feeling. Nothing romantic, high quality or comfortable about their seating. The gnats were an awful nuisance and really bothering. Single person restrooms so don't wait until the last minute to go. Open view kitchen, you have the ability to see the difference dishes being served. I server Lauren our server was pleasant, that was to be expected knowing that servers work for tips. She was accommodating and attentive when at our table but nothing extraordinary about her service stood out to me. The food came out in a timely manner, not a very long wait for what we ordered. First came the salads in a slanted bowl so that your salad can easily spill out when you shuffle it to spread your dressing around. Typical house salad, premade and kept in a refrigerator. Next the calamari, beware that portion size does not match the cost. The calamari is flash fried so do not expect batter as most calamari is prepared. Absolutely nothing special about their calamari, not even the taste or marinara that came with it for dipping. The Mrs and I both ordered the seafood platter. At first I thought it was a wonderful idea when I saw the plate arrive at our table and then I realized my error when we were began to eat. Too much food, I highly recommend that this dish be shared between two light eaters! The food was delicious and my only complaint is that the hush puppies albeit delicious were cold upon arrival. Other than that the meal was quite tasty. So why just three stars? Four stars from me means everything about your restaurant was excellent and met my expectations, five stars means superior and exceeded my expectations. First, The sweetheart that answered the phone could not have been more helpful. The shrimp and crabcakes were perfectly cooked and delicious. However, the steaks were unseasoned and gray, the fat, not charred, just cold and lumpy. I guess we got yesterday's salad because the edges were brown. So this might be helpful if you have a large group wanting to order today's special. The only thing that really turned me off was the sides. You would think if you're paying $180 for a family of four you would get fresh salad and a decent sized baked potato, especially up charging it with bacon bits, sour cream, and margarine. But no. Could not have asked for a better dining experience - especially with the nautical flair. The restaurant was very accomodating to our last-minute family gathering. Overall, I think everyone was pretty happy with their and food. Also, we were pleasantly surprised at the speed by which our food came out. Finally, I was very impressed with our server and how she handled the large number or orders for our gathering. For my dining pleasure, I went with the build your combo (2 items) and had broiled flounder and grilled scallops. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the area. Wanted to share an abysmal experience that we just had with Pirates Cove Restaurant. We went in and ordered a take out order. A salad, hushpuppies and some wings. We went on a Saturday around 11:30am and they weren't busy at all. They handed us a bag of food with the bag tied tightly. We took the bag and came home. When we got home the wing sauce was all over everything inside of the bag. We had the wrong salad, the hushpuppies had wing sauce on them, we didn't get the blackened chicken for the salad nor did we get the extra dressing we asked for. We called them to let them know and essentially the manager (Lauren) told us it was our responsibility to check the bag before leaving and that they post signs about that everywhere because once it leaves the restaurant they can't be sure we are telling the truth. I would expect something like this from a fast food restaurant, but not from a locally owned and operated restaurant like this. I had an extended conversation with her and not once did she even apologize for getting the order wrong and basically said there was nothing she could do. The amount of business they will lose from the handling of this is quite significant, and if I were the owner I would be livid. Zero attempt to even attempt to make it right. Basically it was OUR fault for not tearing open the tied up bag to check that they did their jobs correctly before we left. In this day and age of social media reach that was a REALLY bad business was decision Lauren. We will NEVER set foot back in there and will post far and wide about their admission that they can't do their jobs correctly so you have to always check behind them. Date night for my husband and I was a success here. It was not busy with a nice steady flow of families and couples in and out on a Thursday night. My husband had the pollock fried fish, fried oysters, and baked potatoe with green beans. I had their 3 cluster crableg special at market price that came with two side of sweet potatoe fries, and cornbread. Both meals came with hushpuppies. Our server was very polite and attentive. The crablegs were very tasty. But we had a slight hiccup when they first came out as I'd asked for heavy seasoning, but mine were not and were code. After they were corrected the meal was fantastic. The cornbread was sweet and crumbled immediately. I can almost say it was the best cornbread I've ever had...could've passed for cake honestly. Husband wasn't a fan of the green beans or the fried pollock but believes it was moreso preference of how it was cooked. In the past I've only had take-out from Pirate's Cove, and it was delicious! The other day my husband and I were in the mood for a sit-down lunch so we swung by. It was impossible to tell whether it was hotter OUTSIDE or INSIDE! I tried to ignore it at first, but I'm very heat intolerant. I glanced around and saw several other customers fanning themselves. Some of the employees were red-faced from the heat. That was my ticket out of there. MAYBE we'll try back in the colder months. read more

I have eaten at Pirate's Cove a number of times. The staff has always been very friendly starting as soon as you come in the door. They have always done a nice job explaining specials etc. One thing that has taken away from my last experience is the cooking staff was loudly calling for the wait staff. One of the men called numerous times for several staff. We were not very close to the cooking area but it was rather annoying. Five of us were there for lunch. 3 of us had salads, all 3 different. One friend has the salad with Chicken tenders. They were large and nicely cooked. We all enjoyed our lunches. read more

I arrived at 12:30pm to set up and the manager on duty and the hostess looked surprise about my meeting. The area was not set up. Other hostess had to set up for us. The manager immediately started disrespectfully and rudely telling me that I had indicated that my meeting was a maybe. I told her no I did not and she showed me the book where she had scratched through my meeting and written maybe there. I told her that she was wrong and she told me to let her talk or my group would not be seated and if I said another word she would put us out. And besides we have until 2:30pm to meet because of another group is coming. I asked could we meet on the other side and she said, "absolutely not". So my meeting was rushed. I felt belittled and disrespected by her and she was very unprofessional and showed no customer service skills. Besides me paying $245.00 for my group, a total of $365 was spent in your place by my group to take out food for themselves. Our group has meet here countless times before but because of this experience we are thinking of making different arrangements. I would like to be compensated due to her actions. They were not necessary and were completely uncharacteristic of how we've been treated in the pass. On November 21, I went back to speak to the owner of Pirates Cove and he was completely dismissive. He was unconcerned about management treating a paying customer disrespectfully and did not want to compensate me in anyway. When I tried to explain the matter, he cut me off and said it was over and he was done. He then left me standing up front and I had to choice but to leave. Due to this experience, my group and I will not be returning to this establishment. In the past, Pirate's Cove has always been a reputable 4establishment and accomadating to groups of all sizes and needs. Pirate's Cove deserves four stars for its food and service quality. Being in the Chesapeake Bay area calls for crab, crab, crab. My wife had an outstanding crab cake (pan-fried), and I loved the crab soup. For an appetizer, we split delicious oysters Rockefeller. The crumbled bacon added on top was tasty but overpowered the taste of the oysters. I had a perfectly cooked blackened flounder. The only foods I would take issue with were the side of "spinach casserole," which was simply a blob of spinach, and the hush puppies, which I thought were too dense and sweet. The servers were attentive throughout the meal. The ambiance was casual, and it was not noisy. It was easy to converse despite being fairly crowded on a Saturday night. Last Saturday I wanted to get a special meal for my mom who is home bound and her caregiver. I placed the order online and was charged for the order as soon as I submitted the order. I arrived at the restaurant at the stated time for pickup from my confirmation email. The very sweet hostess said they didn't have my order and that the owner only has access. I explained that I had already paid for the order and needed to hurry to get back for a dinner that should have been ready for pick up. I showed her the email and she was able to put in a new order and not charge me. I spoke to a manager that said she had no access to the online ordered only the owner. I gave her my name and number so I could speak with the owner. I waited all week for a call and nothing. I had to wait 40 mins for my food after I arrived to pick up my online order that never happened. I paid a service fee for ordering online. The manager there said she couldn't do anything and that the owner would call. I have eaten here many times and have never had an issue like this. Never again read more

I'm not too sure how to rate this restaurant. The server and host were very nice and accommodating! The food for the most part was good. Some of the sides weren't great and the prime rib didn't seem seasoned at all somehow. The seafood options that we chose were great though. All in all, the options were pretty good and were good for the prices. The drawbacks that I had was just the cleanliness of the space and floors. We went out on a cold rainy night so we had to be inside. They had a large selection of seafood and a couple of regular items for those who tagged along and didn't like fish.
