I'd never been before, but I'd been wanting to try it for a long time. As soon as I walked in, I noticed two ordering kiosks with people waiting in line. Before I could even figure out what to do, a young lady with the biggest smile greeted me and asked if she could help. Her name was Patty. I told her it was my first visit, and she patiently explained the menu, especially the different spice levels. Since I enjoy spicy food, I confidently ordered the Hot level. Looking back... I may have been a little overconfident! When my food was ready, Patty brought it to my table with the same genuine smile she greeted me with. The food looked incredible, and the chicken was juicy and delicious--but after a few bites, I realized the Hot level was hotter than I had imagined. I laughed to myself and thought, "Next time, I'm definitely ordering one level lower." A few minutes later, Patty came back to check on me because it was my first visit. I told her the food was great, but I'd overestimated my spice tolerance. Without hesitation she said, "I'll change it for you." I immediately told her, "No, it's okay. I don't want you to waste food." She smiled and replied, "I want you to enjoy it." That simple statement really impressed me. In today's world, you don't hear that very often. It reminded me of something I had just read about Dave's Hot Chicken--"Keep us honest." Patty truly lived that philosophy. She wasn't just serving food; she genuinely wanted my first experience to be a great one. The food was excellent, but Patty's kindness and customer service made the experience memorable. That's the kind of employee every business hopes to have. I'll definitely be back--and hopefully Patty will be there again. Thank you, Patty, for making my first visit such a great one. You turned a first-time customer into a returning one.

The gentleman behind the bar and the gentleman who brought out my to-go order couldn't have been any nicer. I had the kimchi fried rice (sans Spam) and the kimchi stew (sans pork). I appreciated their accommodating me as I'm a fish/fowl person, not big on meat. Both orders were absolutely delish (and I had enough food for 4 days!). This Pub has all the right food, drink and atmosphere for anyone wanting authentic Korean! 5 stars

Even at other bars and restaurants, servers and bartenders check on you to make sure you are okay and not in need of anything pretty frequently enough. Here? You have to look around, use your RBF eyes or literally flag staff down flailing your arms, and then, when you finally are able to ask about that dish that never came, they I feel like they don't check on it right away (I watched our server help just about every other table before finally going into the kitchen to presumably check on our dish. Then, when we asked for a fork, it took 10 minutes to get it. I was so frustrated waiting for a simple fork for so long that I just got up and got it myself. The food was just okay too. Nothing to write home about. We tried their bulgogi fries and bulgogi fried rice. They were decent. The lighting in here is cool too but man... nothing much else to say that is positive about this place. I was really disappointed too because other reviews were so positive! Do yourself a favor and go to another place if you're looking for a bar or a place to eat. You'll definitely get better and faster service and food.

Soonheene actually started in Seoul's famous Gwangjang Market where they were known for their pancakes, so I was excited to check it out. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Esther (the owner) and her daughter. They both went out of their way to explain the menu and answer all my questions with genuine smiles. That kind of hospitality really sets the tone for a meal. We ordered the Pork Mungbean Pancake, Rose Tteokbokki (creamy rice cakes with fish cake and sausage), Bibim-Naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles), and a whole fried chicken split into two flavors. Everything we ordered was delicious and tasty. For half the chicken, I went with the original but added green onion and their special oriental sauce drizzle. The other half was spicy soy garlic. I'll admit, I liked the original better. I second-guessed myself when the owner's daughter mentioned soy garlic was their number one most popular flavor followed by honey butter, but I thought I would be different and try the spicy version. The spice kind of drowned out that garlicky soy flavor, so lesson learned. Next time I am going straight for the soy garlic and honey butter combo. For drinks, we tried the Korean coffee and cold yuzu drink, both refreshing and a nice complement to the food. By the end of the meal, everything was so good that I even found myself asking about catering their chicken for future events. The vibe inside is really comfortable with soft K-pop playing in the background. It is just enough for atmosphere but not too loud, so you can talk easily. The only tricky part is parking since it is in a busy plaza with a lot of other restaurants, but at least it is free. Overall, this was one of the most unique dining experiences we have had recently, made extra special by Esther and her daughter's hospitality. I love supporting family-owned spots like this, and I will definitely be back to try that famous soy garlic and honey butter chicken next time.

I ordered a #2 combo meal with beef (should've asked for potato salad instead of cucumber) and all I can say is that it can get you through the day. It's a solid meal. Service was swell, the food came out fast! I'll miss this place. Hope to see a good place will take over here. Kind of wish I visited more often.

Fast forward 28 years: the shop on Colorado is closed and I now frequent the Foothill location adjacent to Ralph's. Those bowls are still on my regular rotation. I love the fresh veggies that come in the chicken teriyaki bowl. The meat is tender and the sauce is flavorful. The spicy tuna is generously piled atop perfectly cooked rice. My newest go-to order is the katsu chicken curry. The chicken cutlet is tender and perfectly fried, served over a generous bed of rice and an equally generous serving of savory curry. The potatoes and carrots are so soft, they melt in your mouth. I almost always order this dish when I'm craving Japanese curry. The service is quick, the staff are efficient. The dining area is spacious and there are tables outside. The tables could use more frequent wipe downs. I prefer my comfort food in the comfort of home, so I usually take my food to go. Suffice it to say, the food is great and I've never been disappointed. Don't you ever go away, Mako Bowl!
