I genuinely enjoyed this place and honestly liked it even more than Boiling Crab, which is why today's experience was so disappointing. We arrived around 11:30 AM and waited for them to open at 12 PM. Once they opened, it seemed like nothing was ready yet. On top of that, the AC was broken, and it was around 100 degrees outside, making the restaurant extremely uncomfortable. We were seated in the back, but they had a swamp cooler running in the front. Since there was literally nobody else in the restaurant, our party of 5 moved ourselves to a large open table near the swamp cooler so we could be more comfortable. Instead of accommodating us, we were told we had to move because they wanted to keep that table available in case a party of 8 came in. Again, we were the only customers in the entire restaurant at the time. At that point, we decided to get up and leave. It was disappointing because I had genuinely enjoyed the food here in the past and preferred it over Boiling Crab. The first time I heard about Grab A Crab was at a Yelp event. I didn't get a chance to drop by their booth, but it was lively and crab plushie was cute. I was at Atlantic Times Square in Monterey Park. I saw them there so here I am trying them out. Free parking with no time limits at the square. Arrived here for late dinner. Not too many people at the time. Ambiance was nice with good inside space. Staff was welcoming, cordial, and helpful. Menu offers Combos for 2 or 4, Seafood Lovers' Combo, Build Your Own (BYO) Seafood Boil, appetizers, sides, and drinks. They even have a kid's menu. I love seafood so I opted for Combo for 2 for $49.99. I picked 1 lb of head on shrimp and 1 cluster of snow crab legs (extra cost) for my seafood choices and 3 appetizers (seafood chowder, garlic bread, sweet potato fries). Combo also came with 4 sausages, 2 potatoes, and 1 corn. I got one complimentary bib. Gloves and napkins were in a dispenser at my disposable. I got 1 coin to try for a free plushie that could be traded for a pound of seafood. I kept the coin as a souvenir. Here's my take on the combo... Some head on shrimps with shell were mushy which was a disappointment because shrimp is my favorite seafood. They also varied in size... some smaller than others. I understand it goes by pound, but I would have preferred all my shrimps to be similar sizes. Snow crab legs had empty gaps inside the shell in other words not much meat. I also didn't get a full set of cluster which was a bummer because I paid an extra $4 for it. They gave me other parts to compensate for the last leg. Size of cluster was a bit small. Won't get this upgrade again. Delicious seafood chowder was creamy with perfect seasoning. Amazing garlic bread was toasted and buttered nicely. Sweet potato fries tasted sweet and not oily. As for the sausages, potatoes, and corn, they were fresh and great adds. Seafood boil sauce was rich and buttery, but just a tad salty. I appreciate the robust blend of spices along with garlic and onion were emphasized at every bite though. All in all, combo was okay and experience was fun, but not sure if it was worth the price. Probably my best restaurant find this year! I was really blown away by Grab a Crab when it came to flavor, quality and portions. We'd been to Boiling Crab multiple times, but the sauce tends to be overwhelmingly loaded with sodium. After trying Grab a Crab, we loved how it wasn't as salty and the seafood quality was also so much better. We got the Combo for 2, and we thought this was perfect for us when it came to value. For the sides we got Cajun fries, chicharron and garlic bread. Overall, we enjoyed everything we got - I don't think there was a single thing I don't dislike. Many had dark discoloration, rubbery texture and did not taste right. The lime wedges included were old, yellowed and dried‑out, looked like they had been cut ages ago. The fried oysters came with an extremely thick batter, it turned soggy and unpleasant to eat. No dipping sauce was provided at all. On top of the food quality issues, multiple items from my order were missing. I paid for a coke that never showed up. They also forgot basic necessities: no gloves and no napkins were included with the seafood meal. For a seafood restaurant, these are basic expectations. Very cool spot within walking distance of our hotel. When we sat down our waitress gave us two coins for the game machine in the corner. If you pull a stuffed animal you can get free food. Line started forming when we got here so came at a good time. Plenty of seating and tv's for entertainment here as they were showing cartoons one one tv and the basketball game on another so definitely ideal for a family here. We were given 4 tokens; one for each kid for their claw machine. However, the claw machine wasn't as friendly as I didn't see anyone win that night. We ordered their Combo which came with sausages, shrimp, potatoes and clams. They did forget our clams at first. Appetizers we chose their sweet potato fries, lemon pepper wings and gumbo. Food overall was ok. The flavor wasn't too bad as it's comparable to other cajun broil places. Just wasn't a fan of the corn as it wasn't really cooked properly. I ordered rice but it was really dry. I didnt like that they brought it out first and since it was busy, it took about 20 minutes for our boil to come out. By that time my rice was kind of cold but since i mixed it with sauce, it was bearable. The crawfish was also frozen. Sauce needs more garlic but i guess to some this amount would be perfect. Limes were cut soo small you had to squeeze 10+ to fill your salt and pepper cup. They give you a clamp and scissors to cut the snow crab so thats a plus. This location of Grab A Crab is in Monterey Park in the Atlantic Time Square. There is parking in the underground structure. My boyfriend and I have been fans of Grab A Crab since we've been to their location in Hacienda Heights so I was happy to try this new location. For those who have not been to Grab A Crab, they are a cajun boil restaurant. A fun attraction they have are their crane games where each table gets tokens and you can win ingredients for your boil. This location is smaller than their Hacienda Heights location but it seems less busy. They have a Yelp Waitlist you can hop on if you come during a busy time. We came here with my boyfriend's friends, so there was a total of 4 of us. It made sense to get their Combo for 4 ($79.95) which comes with 4 Classic Seafood, 4 Classic Appetizers, 4 pieces of sausages, 2 potatoes, 2 pieces of corn and 2 eggs. We added 2 corns ($1.75/each). For the classic seafood we picked 2 lbs of shrimp, 1 lb of crawfish, and 1lb of snow crab legs, which there was an upgrade for. And for the appetizers we picked the fries, onion rings, gumbo and chicken tenders, which was also an upgrade ($3.50). We actually added another lb of shrimp ($11.99/lb) after we finished the first order. We all enjoyed the food for the most part. Their shrimps were big and juicy. The crawfish were decent for not being in season. We did observe a few things like less garlic in the sauce. As for the sides, the chicken tenders were surprisingly good. The fries and onion rings were average. Too heavy for me to eat too much of it, but good for the boys to fill up. Service at this location seems to be lacking. Missing items like the salt, peppers, limes, sauces for appetizers, multiple follow ups. Keep having to waive them down for things. It's funny that this location is less busy but less on top of things compared to their Hacienda Height location. Great spot for a Cajun boil, especially when you don't want to wait. We randomly discovered this place and honestly can't believe how good the deals are. Everything was already reasonably priced, but the specials took it to another level. They normally have a combo deal for two people (around $46) that includes 2 pounds of seafood (shrimp, clams, etc.), sausage, potatoes, corn, two sides, and a fried item. We were planning to do the 2-lb shrimp combo, but when we came in on a Tuesday evening, they had even better offers. We got 5% cash back on the entire bill and snow crab legs for $14.99 per pound, which is an incredible deal. On top of that, we signed up for their membership ($10.99/year), and it immediately paid for itself we got 2 pounds of shrimp for free (1 lb for signing up + 300 bonus points). Total no-brainer. The shrimp quality was great, huge size shrimps and fresh.. The sauce was really good as well. Minor note: everything is served in a large cylinder-style plate, so the sauce pools at the bottom and you have to dig a bit to get it (similar to a bag at Boiling Crab). Not a dealbreaker, just something to note. Huge shoutout to our server Ahrian!! incredibly kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and gave great recommendations. Service alone made the experience even better. The ambience was fantastic: vibrant colors, fun wall decor, lots of TVs, and a lively atmosphere. Came here the other night with a friend and the place was pretty busy but the service was good. We ordered the combo for two with shrimp and mussels in the house special spicy sauce. For sides we got Cajun fries, fried oysters, and fried fish. The seafood came out fresh and loaded with sauce. The shrimp were nice and big and cooked perfectly with no sogginess. The mussels were on the smaller side but packed with flavor. The sauce was good but a little salty, and the spicy level definitely had a kick. Next time I'd probably go medium. Everything tasted great, including the potatoes, corn, and sausage. You should definitely get a bowl of rice to soak up all that sauce. The Cajun fries were good, the fried fish was excellent and probably my favorite fried item, and the oysters were just okay. They also have a membership you can sign up for to get some perks. I really really enjoyed this place actually! I went with a group of four and got the combo with 4 seafood and 4 appetizers, and it was more than enough food for all of us! Plus such a good deal. We went on a Saturday around 6pm, and luckily we got seated immediately. Hooray! Lucky us. The restaurant didn't seem too busy. It gave me nautical vibes and the vibes of any seafood boil place -- well lit and it a nice plaza. Free parking. It was good! The food itself was good. I feel like all the seafood felt on the smaller side but maybe not much is in season? We got the house sauce medium, but it wasn't that spicy. Could've gone a spice level up!
