Wow! We are so lucky to have this historical bakery for over 100 years!! If needing special items, call ahead to order. They always have some of the most incredible, melt in your mouth pastries. Specially made King cakes, Polish pastries, birthday cakes, and so much more. Newly remodeled with an outdoor area to enjoy your favorite morning beverages!! You won't be disappointed!!!

You have to go to this old fashioned bakery where they have everything you could possibly think of, from fresh baked bread to gooey butter cake, to donuts to cheesecake and much more, in glass cases for you to order from. You can get your bakery goods to go or you can sit and enjoy them right there. It would also be a great place to meet up with a friend! Today we picked out a dozen donuts, peanut cake & some sort of pastry with caramel, nuts & candied nuts to take home. My favorite donut is the glazed twist, but you can't go wrong with any of them! They are all SO good!!! The peanut cake & other pastry we picked out are not going to last any time at all because they are so addictively yummy!

    Onion Rye (Friday)

Kruta Bakery has been on my radar for a bit. I don't work more than fifteen minutes away. I saw on Facebook though that Kruta has onion rye bread on Fridays. I had to investigate. I was there right around 9am and I secured 2 loaves of the onion rye bread, several "fudgies," and a large iced butterfly cookie. I'm impressed! The fudgies were great! They were very moist and the icing is thick and rich. I was also happy with the iced cookie. The rye bread had a good flavor but I would have preferred a thicker, denser loaf, like the St. Louis bakeries used to sell. I like more caraway seeds and cornmeal on the outside for texture. I definitely enjoyed the onion flavor though. I will definitely return to Kruta! Need to sample more items!

Donuts. Cheese danish, a delicious pastry with nuts and carmel - I don't know what they are called; and 4 fudgies!

I love the angel puffs donuts. They are fast even when they are busy at the shop. The bread they make has really good flavor.

I went in with intentions of trying just about one of everything and I did. I think I got a lot for $23. I also like that every item has a price clearly shown. I was welcomed nicely and not rushed with my choices. Made small talk and came home to sample my stash. First, it all tastes like it's cooked with love and butter, but not overtly sugary! I love the lemon popovers and the cranberry cookies are fabulous and more hearty, not too sweet. Just what winter ordered. Also, shout out to the coconut cream pie... that crust is like layers from heaven. More to come...Keep this gem in Maryville! I will update more as I get through my "GET YOUR SWEET ON" buffet. It's going to take a while to eat. Note to self, I love cake, I love cream horns, and like Cookie Monster I love cookies from the Sweet Bakery Creation! Also I always ask what I'm getting before I buy. If it has several layers of buttercream, I'm going to know it's sweet, but I'm ok with that... they offer a lot of stuff not always common in everyday bakeries so explore your options like I did. They are a mix of pastries more so than a donut shop. Everyone deserves some pinafores and extra special goodies.

I was wrong. I walked inside and noticed an almost empty display case, I would have thought that I showed up before closing time based on the limited selection. What type of a donut shop runs out before 8am! They did however have some of their namesake, which is what I was actually there for. I waited for nearly 5-10 minutes while I watched two employees behind the counter, one was taking orders from the drive thru and the other was making donuts, I think. I really couldn't tell since he was behind a wall. I waited patiently and almost considered walking out, while I was waiting the line stared to grow to nearly 8 people waiting inside the store. The employee taking drive thru orders finally stopped and apologized for the wait, only after taking nearly 5 drive thru orders all of which arrived AFTER me. Meanwhile I kept patiently waiting in the store. I ordered a Glazy Square and a Chocolate Long John, and a soda to go. Prices were reasonable, I think my order was about $3.50, however I wasn't overly impressed with the donuts. I actually prefer Kruta's, and believe it or not Casey's makes a good French Crueler but it is nice to have an option on the north side of town. Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again, but if I could offer them one piece of advice that would be to ditch the drive thru, your customers should never have to wonder whose business is more important and because of this they almost lost a customer this morning.

Holy crap the walk from my car to the building eases the guilt of eating the donut. The case was full: twisted glazed and cinnamon, cinnamon rolls, square glazed donuts, square donuts with chocolate icing, square donuts with white icing and cake donuts: Todays special was the lemon donut. The cake donuts was not what I was looking for today, but I will keep them in mind for the future. We got the traditional glazed (square) donuts. They were amazing, this is probably one of the best donuts I have ever eaten. The reason they got a 4 star was the lady at the counter was rushing me and I felt like I was annoying her...

Yesterday, Sophia my little fur-baby had a vet appointment that was just a block away. Being a good dog dad, I made sure she arrived early. In fact, we were so early I had time to kill so I made a stop at, The Cup. To my delightful surprise, they had a special on two of my favorite flavors and they were combined into one cupcake. I love lemon & raspberry. The cupcake was called, Spring Fling. It was a lemon cake, with Raspberry cream cheese frosting and a raspberry filling. The cake was moist and soft. Most importantly, the frosting was not overly sweet and did not overly dominant the cake. It was just the perfect amount of topping. The lady working the counter was attentive and made friendly conversation. I was glad to see that they are part of the, Gift-A-Meal program and that they offered Student Discounts to those who attend SIUE. That's community supporting community.
