When I'm back home I'll usually stop at K's. It was the place to go during my college days for cheap, delicious, filling meals and my favorite Mac salad. Old style diner ambiance. You can't come here expecting a fine dining experience. What K's offers is VALUE!!! The food is pretty good. The fried rice actually tastes good compared to other places that just pretty much fry the rice, add some green onions and charge you extra for that. I tried the breakfast plate. Two eggs, choice of meat, and choice of starch. Under $8. Ono! I also tried the tomato beef (as they call it here) and it was the bomb. Tasty and full of vegetables and meat. Under $12. Most folks tend to review the more trendy places here in Hilo that charge you ridiculous prices. I think there's only one or two reviews of K's on Youtube. WTF? Went to K's for the first time. Ordered 3 of their Merrie Monarch Special Plates: (1) Kanack Attack and (2) Kanaka Plates. When we got home, ALL 3 plates were missing lomi salmon, poi, & haupia. The Kanack Attack was also missing the kalua pig. So, I called to let them know and they said to come back to get the missing items. So I go all the way back to get the missing items. Get home and guess what?? STILL MISSING one order of poi, lomi salmon and haupia!! Sure, I could have checked the bag before I came home But should I really have to??? Staff was super friendly. Gave a lot of good advice on what to eat & where to go (since I'm visiting) I ordered the double cheese burger which I guess I had more expectations of. Like the L&L ones, or any whole in the wall place, the burgers always kick. This one, it was ok. I also got the Korean chicken katsu. Sauce was kinda salty but everything tasted so fresh. I probably would've just went with reg katsu next time though. Worth the try, cheap food too. read more

I was hoping for a good meal while searching for a lunch spot and came across K's Drive-in and we thought why not. The drive-in was clean and the seating outside was adequate so we decided to eat there. I ordered a chili dog plate and my wife ordered fries and a Mrs. K's ramen. I did not care for the chili so I was kind of wondering if they make their own or do they open cans of it. The hot dog was good, but for the price you would think they would put 2 in your plate. Mac salad was OK, the pasta was not overbuild which I hate. My lunch fared better that my wife's. Her ramen broth seemed like the use the same broth as the saimin. There were also two clumps of noodles in her bowl stuck together. She returned the ramen and told them that she didn't want it. They actually cooked another bowl for her even though she told them it she didn't;t need another order. I am not sure if I would return because the food we ordered was kind of basic and it wasn't done well. read more

I wanted to go to cafe 100 but it was closed. Here we got the mixed plate of kalua pig and spare ribs for $10.25 and pork cutlet for $9.25. The kalua pig is ok not bad, very strong smoky flavor. Me and my family are visiting the big island for a week and we yelp places to eat in Hilo and K's drive-in was within the first five that was listed I am most definitely grateful that this establishment has rice substitutions. I unfortunately am allergic to rice ( yea, who would of think a local gal like myself who was brought up on rice, is now allergic to it ) I love the roast it was very tender and full of flavor. As for the Mac salad. Being born and raised in Hawaii. There's many variations on how Mac salad is made. Its to each it's own. For me, it was ok. For dessert. I had a Ube vanilla swirl ice cream cone. It was SOOOOOO sooooo delicious. Perfect for a hot day. This is a family friendly place and many tables to choose to dine in on. The pineapple twist is AWESOME. Well worth a stop. The strawberry one was ok but it didn't have enough zing to it, and tasted a little more fake. But it was still pretty good. It may look like any other "yogurt" but it's way more than that. The gravy cheeseburger is good, but sorry, the patty itself doesn't compare to Blane's. I think I said Blane's burger tastes like it should be Grandma's burger (homemade goodness) and K's doesn't quite have it. I went to K's for breakfast one morning after my morning workout at Penn Fitness. I ordered eggs, rice, and coffee. The bill was $3.99! What an affordable breakfast! I normally pay over $20 for breakfast in Hilo, so this was a nice surprise. I returned for lunch on a different day and ordered the chicken hekka, which was on the specials menu for that day. This has got to be my favorite local fast food place in Hilo. They have the best crispy won tons. They don't skimp on the filling and the won tons are fried perfectly. It's a definite eat right away. I've tried taking it home for later, but these won tons don't reheat well. I've had the Chili, Oxtail Stew and the Corn Beef Hash patties, all good. Homestyle local food. There's nothing fancy about K's, Service is friendly and the menu extensive. One of my favorite Combo is the Chicken Hekka and Pork Cutlet Plate. Total comfort food. K's Mac Salad is also good, which is so important with a plate lunch. I look forward to trying more dishes at K's Drive Inn. read more
