I sent in my apple macbook pro (model #W8924Y5M66D) with water damage for the flat rate repair advertised below in last February by mail. About TWO WEEKS LATER, they called me and told me that the logic board has to replaced and it will cost $240 for the logic board and another $240 for the "repair". If i did not want the board replaced then I have to pay $240 to take back the computer. I mentioned the ad clearly stated that the guaranteed repair covers the logic board, but they are insisting that the replacement is separate and will cost another $240 if I wanted it to be fixed. Why didn't they explained that in the first place? I don't know. So I reluctantly told them to replace the board anyway. This review is for anyone looking to repair their game console. Recently, my ps3 slim stopped being able to read discs. You would put the disc in, wait a while, then hear a clunk as the lens tried to move but was unable to. I looked online for any repair shops in the San Jose area that could work on my game console since Sony's repair service seems to be along the lines of 'send it in, wait a few weeks, then we'll decide if we feel like fixing your machine or sending you a refurbished one without consulting you. For a lot of money.' It turns out that fixing game machines appears to be a service nearly no one engages in. I called a few places, and the responses were along the lines of, "Well, we don't usually work on playstations, only laptops and tablets and phones. But bring it on down and we'll take a look and see if we can figure it out." No thank you, I think I won't. I finally called KT and got an immediate flat rate quote on the phone for the problem I described. That seemed promising. They knew enough about the machines to know exactly what I was talking about. My confidence rose higher when I reached the store. Inside they had a flat screen tv slowing scrolling up the types of devices they could repair, and I happened to walk in as it was displaying several Sony PSPs and Vitas. Still, the proof is in the pudding, as they say, not the appearance. The counter clerk took my console and told me that the lens replacement would be a flat $80, (most of my online research had suggested it would be $120), and that the work usually took a day or two. I didn't mind that, since I never expected it would be the kind of work that would be done in 90 minutes. I left the shop and went home. To my pleasant surprise, I received a phone call 5 hours later saying my console was ready to be picked up. I went down, half expecting some kind of ploy to charge me $120 on an accidental quote, but the $80 bill was exactly what they quoted. I also was not offered any kind of discount in exchange for a 5 star yelp review, a practice I thoroughly despise. I am happy to report my machine has worked perfectly for the past week since they fixed it. So if you live in the San Jose area and are looking for a repair shop for any of your game devices, I strongly recommend KT. When the local UBreakIFix in my family's home state could not diagnose a problem with their MacBook Pro laptop (and suggested an expensive motherboard replacement), I asked them to send it to me so I could get a second opinion from KT Electronics. Well, to make a long story short, KT Electronics identified and replaced the faulty component on the motherboard within 3 hours. We were just amazed and discovered that not all repair shops are the same. Most of them aren't qualified or don't have any of the equipment necessary to actually attempt component-level diagnosis and repair. We are very impressed by the job they did and the time in which they did it. Of course, some repairs will take longer than others. Nevertheless, it is refreshing to see a repair shop that can actually do repairs and not just replacements. read more

How these people have 5 star reviews is completely mind blowing. I found this place on google and took my laptop there for a diagnosis. Which cost $50 right when they take it in. After a week I heard no response from them so I called. The person I spoke to had said they were waiting for a part to come in a few days and it would cost $180 for the repair. I waited. Called them back since I still received no response. Now they were saying that my motherboard is bad so it would cost me $480 now to fix the machine. I did not do it so I came in to pick up my laptop. When I did, a lady had told me now, that the motherboard AND the graphics card is done. My laptop had over a dozen scrapes and scratches all over the exterior of the case. They destroyed my laptop cosmetically and they tried to swindle me into paying more for repairs. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Save your money, and take it to someplace that has honest professionals. Update: well KT, I took my laptop to a trusted professional, and the ram that was in my laptop, was DOWNGRADED. From an 8gb to 4gb. When I get enough evidence to prove that your people stole the ram, I will be taking legal action. And it wasn't a MacBook. It is an Alienware m18. I was able to trade in my old laptop that had a broken hinge and I traded up to a GORGEOUS 'Almost New' DELL Laptop with a huge screen, nice white edges that goes w/my ipod. So my PS3 stopped recognizing discs two days after MW2 came out (fml). I tried to find solutions off of youtube, but they all failed me. So I figured, why not just send it to Sony? Well my ps3 was way out of warranty as I bought it some 4 years ago and it would have cost me $150 plus shipping to get it fixed by Sony. I might as well have bought a new PS3. So I did more searching on google for a local repair shop in San Jose and overall KT's price was the most reasonable. Khuong (owner) explained to me that it would cost $90 to order the laser, $30 for labor, and about a week to finish altogether. In my opinion, this deal was way better than Sony's. Pros: He was really upfront about the pricing, seemed very knowledgeable, and was actually friendly. Another thing I noticed was that when i made my second visit there, he helped another customer fix a Nintendo DS on the spot and didn't charge a dime. Another thing is the 3 month warranty, which they will try to fix your problem without charge. Cons: The fix to my PS3 did take about two weeks (only reason i didn't give a five star). When I took my PS3 home the first time after he "fixed" it, my console froze and it wasn't reading discs anymore. The second time, Khuong explained to me that the disc drive's railing was misaligned (thank god for that warranty). Had to call him a couple times to figure out why the wait took awhile. Like Hayden P. said in an earlier review, the owner should keep the customer informed if the fix would take longer then expected So my biggest problem with KT was that it took about two weeks and multiple visits to have my PS3 fully functioning again. Otherwise, big thumbs up on the service and price (relative to shops around San Jose). Just a little side note for anyone that chooses to check out KT Electronics, the shop is a bit cluttered with consoles of all sorts (which they should resolve to look more professional) and the parking situation does suck, but these guys really know what they are doing. My MacBook was liquid damaged so I sent it to The store to have it repaired cause I thought it'd be cheaper. It ended up taking them 1 month to report that it's my motherboard needed to be repaired but it's too pricy. So I rejected and asked them to send it back to me. Then it took them another month to send me the tracking number and shit. And the worst part is the custom charged me around $140....holy... So I end up wasting more than $200 (including the shipping fee) and more than 2 month( I once thought they wouldn't return my laptop since they never replied my email LOL) without repairing anything Worst experience ever read more

My son dropped his Nintendo 3DS XL and the hinge cracked and it was impossible to open or close, I thought I was going to have to pay another $200 for a new one, until I did a Google search for 3DS repair and KT electronics was in the search results, I checked out the Yelp profile and sent them a message inquiring about the repair, I got a response within an hour that their price was $70 but also depends on the damage. I took it in that day they took a look at it and checked if parts were in stock and confirmed they were and quoted the same price and told me it would take 4 business days, so we left it in their hands and they said they would call me when it was ready. Later that day I got a call and it was ready!! That made my son's day, since it was late, I couldn't go and went the next day to pick it up and it looked and worked just like when we first bought it and the plus was when I checked in via Yelp I got $5 off. I requested a quote to repair the backlight on my MacBook Pro 15 mid-2008 and received the response that it can be done for $149. I drove to the service and when I got there receptionist was trying to assure me that repair will cost me $180 because of the policy and bla bla bla and after the argument they agreed to the price of $149 saying that they are doing this "only for me" . I left the notebook for repairing. After 2 days I received a call and was told that the logic board was fixed and additional replacement of display cable is needed and I can choose whether to repair it for additional $120 or not, because the backlight won't work without it. Looking at this situation I could only wonder if my logic board was really defective or that cable was the real problem. Finally I had to pay $249 + 10$ (10 for 20 discount voucher from Yelp). They did the job, but I left the place with the mixed feelings. So it's for you to decide whether to repair similar failures of your old MacBook with this service or not. read more

I went here to see what was going on my laptop. I read good reviews about this place, so I decided to try it out. I go there and am greeted promptly however the place was a a complete disaster! Granted KT and his workers get work done. The working environment is not something I expected with such good reviews. I was very disappointed but I did not undermine KT and his staff's knowledge about fixing electronics. Back to getting my laptop fixed. I accidentally dropped my laptop and the hard drive started clicking and it was just running extremely slow. On top of that it simply would not load all of the applications. Immediately, I knew that it was a hard drive problem. I bought another hard drive and tried to fix it myself, but I was not able to. I took it to KT to see what was wrong. He tested the new hard drive and said it was working fine. Without any hesitation or starting my laptop, he made the assumption that my board was messed up and I needed a new one. I was a bit skeptical because why would my laptop be able to still boot up with the original hard drive? All he did to check it out was turn it on and that was it. "Yeah, you might have to replace the board". I thought for a second and then he tried to make a deal with me about trading mine in for one of the other laptops he previously fixed. No offense, but when you try to make a deal with me without trying to solve main problem and not offer any options, that gives me feeling that something is up. So, I thought for a few minutes while he was helping another customer. While I was waiting, one of his co-workers was looking for memory chips for a computer. He comes in ask's KT a question about which one to use, he goes to a drawer and starts mixing up used/opened memory chips. Now, I don't about you, but that is not professional. Those can easily be damaged. So, I just left. Overall, a messy, unorganized workplace, and somewhat not knowledgeable about certain laptops. Although he was a nice guy. It seemed like a place that will just drop off broken electronic parts and maybe a customer will wonder why there is a PSP/Xbox part inside of his/her computer. read more

This place was super shady on how it handled pricing my laptop. My screen had broken for my MacBook Air and I came in and was priced at 270 by another gentleman for the whole repair which was super reasonable. I agreed and they said I could pay after the repair, that same day I came to pay because I would be out of town by the time the repair would be finished and the price was 270 again. This time I was charged but who I think was the owner, everything was fine until the owner called me asking for my credit card Info claiming that both times I came in being priced at 270 was incorrect and that I had to pay another 70 dollars. I told him that that wasn't right considering I came into the store twice but he flat out said that unless I gave him my info to pay the additional 70 he wouldn't fix my laptop. So I had to go back a third time to get my money and laptop back. It was just awful customer service I expected so much more considering what I saw on yelp. Watch out! These people are congenital crooks, it's in their blood! Based on a quick google search and a quick scan of reviews, I took in my son's XBox 360 to them for a routine repair (replace hard drive) and the following drama ensued (note: I know nothing about XBox or video games, and my son was out of town so I didn't know what was in the XBox at the time I took it in): 1. They hustled me into accepting a replacement hard drive that had obviously been well-used. This despite my being proactively alert to possible deception. To this day I still don't know that it is the right megabyte capacity and matches the failed drive's megabyte capacity (there are no markings, thank you Microsoft). 2. They wouldn't properly show me proof that the unit was working with the replacement drive. I had to literally bully them to prove it. After I brought the unit home my son complained about a lot of junk on the hard drive. 3. When delivering the unit to me they yanked out and kept a $60 Call-of-duty game DVD that was in the unit. After driving off I finally digested what had just happened, checked with my son that there had been a game DVD in the unit, and came back to pick it up. The red-faced owner mumbled something about them thinking it was their "test DVD" (yeah, right) and returned the DVD. I insisted on testing it. Even though the game had been working fine before, now it complained about being dirty. It looked scratched. The game DVD we had was recently purchased and had only 1-2 days of use and had no scratches. The owner insisted (with averted eyes) he hadn't swapped disks on me while I wasn't looking. I don't believe him. I would personally pay a few extra $$ and go to a professionally-managed outfit than have anything to do with these sleazeballs. Unfortunately I had a horrible experience here. Took in my Macbook air after it being damaged from a flood. It took 3 weeks to decide that they could not fix its max, and cheaper than what the Apple store would have, and as a graduate student, not having a computer for 3 weeks was very difficult. During the 3 weeks I had to call to get updates and every time I called I was placed on hold for a long periods of time. Had i known it was going to take that long and cost more than it would have at the Apple store I wouldn't have even brought it in the first place. In the end when I picked up my laptop, it was not completely fixed and it was going to cost me close to Apples $760 (which they would have completely replaced everything). I asked them to undo what they did and brought it into the Apple store. Yes, it is very expensive to have it fixed, but it was fixed in less then a week and my computer is good as new. KT is super cool. I've been coming to him for the last few years for my computer needs. I've recommended him to a couple of my closest friends, and they've all been happy with the service and laptops they've purchased from him. Off topic, he has also taught me how to care for my Beta tropical fish back when his store was on Story Road, something I will never forget. I've had the same fish for over 3 years now by listening to how he cared for his own Beta tropical fish. On another note, he is a business man. So whenever I come to see him, he will try to get me to spend money by possibly upgrading my computer or whatever. I can respect that. What I respect more is him working with my price range. Anyway, I just picked up my laptop for a screen issue where the screen would turn black. Last year, I paid for the same screen issue to be fixed in July, but somehow it went out again. I am a computer science student who was in need of a repair that I could trust. After some investigating I found their service with very high ratings, which turned out to be to the contrary. I purchased a logic board repair from their eBay services with hopes of a quick turn around. I started by using next day shipping to speed up the process, but instead their business doesn't open till 10 so my package was unsuccessfully delivered 3 days in a row. Why they don't have a place for drop offs by a major carriers (Fedex) is beyond me. So my laptop was sitting in a warehouse for 5 days (the weekend) and still took them about a week to process/fix my MacBook Pro, which was again average at best for turn around. Fast forward 2 weeks and there are again problems with my logic board to the point where the screen will never truly "turn on". While they do have a 90 day warranty that is offered for their repairs, it would entail that I ship them my laptop for another two weeks which is extremely Inconvenient for a student . Overall I would say they are a very mediocre service, especially their eBay service. If it's not properly fixed, don't send it back. One Star. read more

My screen to my iPhone 6 was cracked and I had my friend take it over there to get it fixed and that took them about 3 weeks to finally fix. It came in with one problem then came out with more problems than it initially had. They DID NOT connect the front and back camera to my phone correctly which is why I went back. They do give a 3 month warranty and I expected a working phone when I gave it back to fix, but when I called and made an effort to to the place it was not fixed. They said they would fix it and have it back to me the next day. I even received a call saying that the phone is ready to be picked up and when I got there the next day the camera still WAS NOT WORKING. I regret ever going to them to fix it because they probably didn't even look at my phone. If I could give them no stars I would! Do not trust them with your valuables! We took our iPad mini 32G to KT Electronics to repair our badly broken screen. After not hearing from them for 3 weeks, I called them. I was told our iPad was badly damaged and it took me two days to get an answer from the owner KT, after being insulted and treated rude by a employee I believe his name was Thanh. So after agreeing to also repair the back piece another month and a half goes by still no call about its progress. Finally, my husband called and they told him someone picked it up! After an exchange of words, they then tell us they are unable to locate our iPad! And what did they offer us in exchange for losing over 1,000 pictures, videos, purchased applications? They tell us they will replace our iPad, with a 16G only if we pay the repair price. I'm appalled at the business ethic! And am currently in the process of reporting them to the better business bureau and possible legal action if I am able to. We lost pictures and videos from our daughters birthdays, niece and nephews special days and events due to their negligence and horrible customer service. They are super unorganized and if you get a look into their back room, it's a MESS! I cried when my husband came home with a refurbished, empty iPad! Consumers beware! read more

Over two months ago my Xbox overheated, so I took it to this place. The charged me $70 and then gave me my xbox back supposedly repaired. A week later it overheated again and then I took it back. Two days later they called me and said that there was a problem with the motherboard and charged me an additional $40. When I got it back it was an older, different Xbox. And then that Xbox overheated after very little use. I took that back and they "repaired" it under their warranty. Now It just broke again and I am making yet another trip there. read more

I definately recommend using KT Electronics to fix Macbook issues. I spilled wine across the top of my wife's Macbook and killed it. It wouldn't charge or power on. After taking it apart and finding that the logic board had a corroded integrated circuit on it I realized that this was beyond my expertise to fix myself. I shipped the entire laptop off to them and they had it back to me within a couple weeks as good as new and at a very reasonable price. Thanks! read more

I feel bad for only writing this review now but here it goes anyway... Back in February my Macbook Pro was having problems charging the battery. I took it to a few local shops where I heard a variety of issues ranging from a bad battery to a bad power jack. No one was able to successfully help me and after hearing the Apple store quote me at $750 I decided to ask around for a recommendation. Someone told me to give KT Electronics Repair a call and, wow, what a great call. After a brief conversation with one of their techs they told me it was likely a logic board problem that not all repair shops can handle. So I printed out their mail in sheet and shipped it up the coast. A few days later I got a call from KT informing me that their was indeed some logic board problems that would need repairs and the total cost was $150. About 2 days later I received another call informing me the repair was complete and 4 days after that, I received the fully functional Macbook. Fast forward to last week. I won't give the exact numbers but lets say I was right around the 90 day warranty mark given by KT. It just so happens that my Macbook decided to suddenly stop charging again. I frantically looked around to see what information I could find regarding the warranty and mail in jobs but ended up just calling in. I should have just done that in the first place...I must have sounded worried about the warranty on the phone because the tech that answered recognized this and put me at ease, telling me to just send it in as a warranty repair and they would take of me. 5 days later(because of the weekend) I received the Macbook Pro, again in fully functional condition. Not sure why it happened again, but the guys and gals over at KT electronics sure take care of you and your devices. TL:DR Fast and friendly service, even to mail in customers.
