Also each time I have walked in there is at least two or three staff members doing something other than dealing with customers like sloppily working on the floor or spending time on their phones. Recently I attended a tennis holiday party which included a gift exchange. One of the gifts was a beautiful scarf printed with tennis racquets. Another friend missed out on it and wanted it but it had already been stolen 3 times. So I saw the tag and found KTcollection on the web. While waiting for my Momofuku pork ramen order, I meandered through the 10th St Block Party which was short of goers, due to a sudden and relentless rainshower. You know how the weather has been lately. Something about the trajectory of the Gulf Stream changing and now arctic air which normally doesn't come our way during the season, is making it's presence know, along with sudden showers and irksome weather. It's causing tornados in other parts of the country, so even with the recent crappy weather in the city, we've drawn the long straw on this. I digress. I happened along to Edline Bonsu's jewelry and accessories, interesting work, very original, well priced. I immediately purchased three pairs of earrings and a gorgeous necklace reminicant of the Charming collection by Tord Boontje- check out gnr8 dot biz for those lovelies. I was tempted to purchase another necklace, but what I really needed more of was earrings. A few booths over was KT Collections. $200 later, I had a small bagful of delightful earbobs, a couple of bracelets and a necklace. At prices ranging $20 on upward, the value over cost was significant. Love KT! I've been going to KT for a couple years now- I first received a KT bracelet as a gift and I've been shopping there ever since. Staff is super friendly and jewelry is beautiful albeit slightly overpriced. But this is such a staple of the UWS and a locally owned business so I fully support it and encourage you to go too!!! I love this store and their jewelry, but after spending nearly $700 on a ring that couldn't get sized correctly and basically being treated like I was doing them a favor for shopping there, I won't be back. (Lara, apparently the store manager, was incredibly unfriendly on multiple interactions.) I wish I had a nicer experience, especially since their pieces are lovely. I found KT Collection at the Union Square Christmas Market, and was excited to learn they have a store near my apartment on the UWS. The customer service was great - the ladies are super friendly and helpful without being pushy. I received the black lace collar necklace (after some not so subtle hinting!) for Christmas and ADORE it. The quality is great; I can't wait to wear it again! Katie, the owner, has successfully worked hard to create an amazing atmosphere (the decor is gorgeous) and the jewelry (just like Katie) is quite beautiful and pleasing to the varying tastes of sophisticated, fashionable and artsy customers from all walks of life on the Upper West Side. After reading my negative review, the saleswoman and Katie openly apologized, and I visited them at the store where they did explain the misunderstanding. Wonderful jewelry boutique in a gem of a setting (sorry, I know punning is the lowest form of humor, but I do it anyway). If you are looking for a gift for a friend or significant other, you just cannot go wrong here. The designer's work has a modern, elegant aesthetic. It's the kind of jewelry you will wear every day--it's perfect on its own, but it also plays well with others. No giant gemstones here, as it's all about silver and gold (and sometimes both together). The cozy shop is painted the most gorgeous shade of blue, and browsing here really feels like a treat. ** Since the owner has responded below - I'll issue an update with further clarification. It is extremely disappointing to see the owner continue to take no responsibility for what her employee did. You cannot charge a customer's card erroneously, then tell them you have no ability to void the charge, which is exactly what I was told. Of course I called my credit card company to tell them the charge was fraudulent - that's actually what mistakenly charging the wrong amount and then refusing to void the charge is. If you make a mistake, you have to fix it. Refusing to void a charge that you know is incorrect is just WRONG. There's nothing that my alerting my credit card company did that would have prevented you from voiding the charge - you chose to process it anyways. You had no intention of correcting your mistake and left it completely to me to get the charge reversed. If you charge a customer the wrong amount you have to void the charge - that is completely your responsibility. The credit card company cannot void a charge that you put through, they can only initiate dispute proceedings, which I had to do 5 days later. I have a large credit limit and this was not a financial hardship to me, but it easily could have been to someone else. The money was not returned to my account for days. You cannot do this to people. Get a new register system, or new employees, or train your employees properly so that this does not happen again. Do the right thing and take responsibility.** DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR CREDIT CARD. If you must shop here, I highly recommend paying in cash. This store knowingly and fraudulently charged just shy of $1,000.00 to my credit card, that's right ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS when I was trying to purchase a $75 pair of earrings. They promised me they'd immediately void the charge but they did not - they put the charge through, which I discovered a few days later, even after I'd called my credit card company right in front of them, the credit card company called them, and they swore they were cancelling the charge. Now I've had to initiate a dispute claim with my credit card company. That aside - the jewelry is very pretty, but it's all gold plated - there's no real gold, so everything tarnishes and looks like junk after a little while. Better off saving your money for better quality jewelry, and shopping somewhere that's not run by people who will try to steal from you. read more

This review is for service. I went in yesterday since they had some scarves on sale on the sidewalk. One was fun and at the sale price, for what it is, at least somewhat reasonable, so I purchased it. The woman at the register (KTC according to my receipt) could not have been more smarmy, arrogant or unpleasant. Albeit, I was coming from a body work appointment so I wasn't dressed up or wearing makeup or jewelry, but ultimately that shouldn't matter. This woman was simply awful. tl; dr: there is nickel in everything and the owner will treat you like garbage-- do not shop here if this is a concern for you or anyone you love. I've always wanted to shop here--I bought a necklace from KT at a holiday show up at Barnard years ago and still get compliments on it all the time. Well, my first (and last) experience was AWFUL, and I won't be back. I bought two sets of stud earrings from an employee who told me, in response to my query about nickel and other allergens, that I "shouldn't have a problem. There's no nickel in it as far as I know." Fast forward two days to me getting a massive rash, blisters, swollen ear canals and missing a day of work. I went back to the store for a refund but was told by a second employee that they don't do refunds. She showed me some plainer but more expensive jewelry I could exchange my studs for, but when I asked her if she could guarantee that there was no nickel in those studs, she said no. She got the owner, who came up and told me they don't do refunds. She was very rude! She told me that her employees told me it was vermeil and gold fill ( it was the first time I'd heard the jewelry described in those words) and that "everyone reacts differently to different metals" so "we can't be responsible." First of all, it's not a reaction, it's an allergy. Calling it a reaction puts the blame on the customer. It's the equivalent of a waiter telling a customer there is no gluten in a gluten dish, then when the customer gets sick, the restaurant owner says "everyone reacts differently, so we can't be responsible." No! If you're making something that goes on or in people's bodies and you are using common allergens like nickel, you are responsible for any health complications that result. But no--good old KT suggested I buy some scarves in exchange for the jewelry. $75 worth of scarves? Can I wear scarves on my ears, KT? Then the sales staff had the nerve to act like they were doing me a huge favor by putting my store credit on a gift card without charging me for the card. Nevermind that I literally can't shop here because there is nickel in everything. What am I going to do with $75 of store credit? Looking at other reviews, I see that KT has a history of blaming the customer when something goes wrong. Don't shop here unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money on what is essentially cheap costume jewelry. If you are a fan of this store, venmo me $75 and I'll send you my gift card! I'm never coming in here again. read more
