While waiting on a long layover at MIA, my wife and I researched our choices for dinner ...our options were hopeless, until we discovered Ku-Va. The wait staff was professional and attentive. We ordered the Empanaditas Matanzeras (chicken) for an appetizer and entrees of Filete de Pollo Empanizado and Ropa Vieja Islena. Even though we chose this place because of the high reviews, we were still surprised by the quality of the food for an airport! The appetizer was plentiful and delicious ...the Filete was traditional and authentic ...the beef in the Ropa was perfectly cooked and the plantains were sweet and moist. Confirming our high review of Ku-Va was the occupations of some other patrons: flight crews and airport police ...these folks know the good spots! read more

Good Cuban food with good service at reasonable prices in the Miami airport. I would definitely come here again if passing through Miami. Not many sit down restaurants in an airport can give you high quality freshly cooked food for under $20. I can't believe this is airport food. Both the fish and chicken were cooked to absolute perfection and seasoned beautifully! The Cuban coffee was strong yet intricately flavored. Just came off a cruise and this food was way better. Absolutely amazing. Wish there were one near my house. read more

Everything I got that was fried was soggy, the beans have almost no character-- sadly bland and no hotsauce at a Cuban restraunt? For shame! DO NOT get the Cuban chips they seem to be frozen, the oil in the frier seems to be too cold as the chips were soggy and characterless. Would not recommend -- go to wendy's read more

I just ate here and the food was okay until I was eating the rice and noticed a piece of hair in it. I told the waitress and then the manager came out with the bill. He said sorry and then said he'll give me 20% off the bill for the hair. I told him I don't think I should have to pay since it's gross and not hygienic. He said he understands that it's gross, but that's all he could do. I said that they should really be more careful about this. Then he said that there's nothing they could do since it happens. I told him doesn't happen at good restaurants. This manager needs to take a lesson in customer service and hygiene since it doesn't look like he's good at either. read more

Excellent pastries, terrible service. The ladies working upfront never greeted us, or said thank you. None of them looked like they wanted to be there. One woman got upset because we asked her to put a sweet pastry and a chicken empanada in a separate bag and made a rude comment in Spanish (I speak Spanish). VERY dissapointed in the service. Surprisingly good for airport fare. Nice drinks as well. I ordered grilled fish a la plancha which was served with beans, rice and maduros. The fish was tender and flavorful and the beans delicious. My one complaint is the maduros ... They tasted funny, sort of like chemically treated water. I asked my companion who had another dish with maduros what he thought and he had the same reaction. I love maduros and I sensed they cared about their food, so I spoke to a kitchen manager (mid afternoon, nearly empty dining room), asking him to please sample one in the kitchen and confirm that the flavor profile was what they expected. I did not hear back and but learned from staff who DID taste it and knew immediately what we were experiencing that it seemed to have been frozen and reheated. I am disappointed at the lack of initiative from either the manager or chef to identify and address a very simple issue. I hope they will read this and reconsider how to respond to similar concerns from the guests they serve in future. read more

Stopped to eat during a recent layover . Food tasted delicious. HOWEVER.. 3 hours later, severe abdominal pain with extreme vomiting. Good thing the airplane bathroom was empty when I ran into it during the flight or there would have been some really upset passengers. I was so sick during this 5 hour flight I could barely walk off the plane. I had the chicken and rice . I still can't tolerate eating chicken. Worst airline layover experience ever ! read more

This place is awful and BIG disappointment. Service is horrible. It took 15 minutes just to get my black coffee. More like 20 for my food. Eggs were OK. Hash browns were some form of processed potato similar to tater tots. Toast was still completely white. Texture of stale bread on one side. The other side was that of fresh bread. Was at Miami Airport after our trip to Cuba and we wanted some more Cuban food. Am glad that we did...this place was GOOD ! We shared a Tamalecon Lechon which was delicious could have had 2 (myself) and been satisfied. Filete de Pollo with rice and the "I Love Lucy" ...Arroz con Pollo which was a BIG chicken leg & thigh a bit over cooked, but a nice flavor. Flan for dessert. JESSICA was our waitress ....very nice. My husband and I LOVE Cuban food and wanted our final Cuban meal before we headed back home so we ate here before boarding our flight. Two words: FOOD POISONING. He got the ropa vieja and I got a cuban sandwich. As soon we arrived home, both of us threw up everything we had in our system for the next 2-3 hours. Worst stomach pain of my life. On the basis of being airport foods, it's amazingly good, freshly cooked, and very reasonably priced. On the basis of being Cuban food, it really isn't too bad. I'm not an expert but have had great Cuban food in Miami Beach, this place is really good. I had the #6 (lechon). Sorry I don't know the exact name of the dish but it was delicious. I know that it's airport pricing, but $3 for a can of diet coke is a bit much. Asked for water twice but honestly don't think that the waitress understood english all that well and we never got it. My pork dish was dry, the "beans" was a cup of black bean liquid - about 3-4 beans at the most (not exaggerating). Wife's hamburger was pretty sad. The fries were good as were the croquetas. Not a place I'd recommend and the demo plates they have out front.....you get about half that food in your order at best. read more

Best airport meal I've had in ages. Friendly and swift service. Delicious drinks. The camarones with Cajun sauce, white rice, black beans and fried plaintains? Yes, more please. My wife and I were at the Concourse D MIA Ku-Va Restaurant October 4 2011. It was then very new and despite that, we had the feeling of being at home after a long absence (we have been in the States for 42 years and we are Colombians). The kindness and smile of the greeter was very enticing, the ambiance relaxed and inviting, the contents of the menu enough to have had us back daily for more than a few days. Despite we arrived at the change of shift, the servers were active and attent to our needs all the time. We both had dishes that used local (ocean) fish that was prepared to perfection. They had at the time an incredible variety of dishes, and we both witness very happy people enjoying different dishes around us. On return from Colombia, we made the mistake of not Googling the restaurant to remind ourselves of its location and asking different people in concourses C and E, they directed us to another Cuban restaurant that was not more than a greasy spoon without the distinction and good food and service of Ku-Va.
