Their version of Adobo was so good that it inspired us to start adding coconut milk to our own recipe at home and we've never looked back. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting, with beautiful plants throughout that give it such a cozy, homey feel. The staff has always been welcoming, making every visit enjoyable. My personal favorites are the Calamansi drinks and the Palabok, both are absolutely delicious. If you're looking for creative Filipino food that still honors its roots, FOB Kitchen is definitely worth checking out.

Restaurant quality food but flavors are so divorced from the og that diners looking to satiate their Filipino food cravings will leave unsatisfied. Filipino food has very strong pungent flavors whether salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and definitely umami. It should punch diners in the mouth, no ands, ifs, or buts. Adobo sa gata (aka adobo in coconut milk) is a regional specialty. The sharpness of the vinegar mellows out with the addition of the coconut milk. But there should still be a clear and distinct flavor profile. The eggplant omelet was almost there. Liked that it wasn't greasy but again was searching for some punch of flavor. Maybe I needed to ask it they had a garlic, chili and vinegar dipping sauce. Or maybe atchara (aka pickled veg). Didn't care for the sticky rice dessert (aka suman). Didn't like the pureed texture. The green mango garnish was better when I dipped the slices in salt. FOB Kitchen's food is refined. Maybe too subtle and restrained. I get it. The chef has to appeal to the western palate, a wider audience than just Filipinos, to survive in an industry with razor thin margins. I look for good food and flavor, not necessarily for authenticity. So yes, I would still recommend this restaurant, for good eats but not for Filipino food.

Shout-out to the owner Penny who has not only supported social causes but has been down to work out catering orders for events of all shapes and sizes. I've recently ordered their lunch boxes for a work meeting I was hosting in Downtown which had a sandwich, a side salad and cookies. I called Penny who talked through options, I had some folks with dietary restrictions and Penny was down to work out an alternative. I know it's shocking to actually use my phone as a phone, but in working something out with the owner/manager, they end up making more revenue than if it were through one of the delivery sites (EZ Cater, doordash, etc) so consider supporting small businesses directly when you can. The day of our meeting after we received our order, we needed a few more sandwiches because more people than expected showed up and Penny's team was able to produce a few more lunch boxes on the fly. I also ordered coffee for my meeting, and Penny gave plenty of sugar, milk and milk alternatives. I've had their sandwiches more times than I can count and can't get enough of their Pork Adobo or Soppressato, it just depends on my mood at the time. Their cookies are yummy as well.

Located along a historic corridor in Oakland, it's a funky place to grab a drink and enjoy some Filipino cooking. Tip: Tip your staff! Bartenders may be open to tips in shot form.

When I've gone for brunch somtimes they have been waits, but there is a lot of seating and their staff work pretty hard at turning around orders and turning over tables, they have seating outside on the sidewalk or parklet in addition to inside the restaurant, which I've utilized when I brought my dog.
