I made the mistake of buying some meats from here. Got a value pack of 2 tritips that was about $70 and pork for grilling for about $30. Big mistake on both counts. Tritip had HUGE amounts of fat in the back that you couldn't see. I had to cut more fat off then the weight of leftover meat. And you couldn't tell just by looking at the package. Pork was just bad - it smelled and had gooey water around them. Never shopping at this meat department again. read more

Food. Service. Ambiance. Don't need it - Pak 'N Save is a normal store, plenty of parking. Don't leave your car overnight unless you want it gone and have really good insurance. If you have Progressive or the General, do not leave your car unattended here for too long. I came here for the DMV Kiosk but it doesn't do anything. You literally can't get anything done with those kiosks. If you go to the DMV, they have kiosks there that equally as useless. It's all about kiosks now for some reason. You can wait in line and they'll just send you to the kiosk. If that doesn't work and you get back in line, they will simply refuse to help you. I'm not sure who is in charge anymore, the employees, or the kiosks? They treat these kiosks like Bloomberg terminals or supercomputers, as if they will actually solve something for you. At the DMV, the security guys help the patrons with the kiosks because the clerks are on desk arrest, or have some strange boundary which they can never cross. I imagine this rule comes from somewhere, probably a bizarre kiosk related tragedy. Maybe someone almost got hurt but a kiosk saved them. I'd prefer if they replaced the kiosks with jukeboxes. Or vending machines. Would probably generate more revenue, but might sacrifice a few lives. Either that, or soon we will all be working for the kiosks, and we will be replaced by something the kiosks want - I don't have the creativity to imagine what that might be, but I'll wager it won't be good. The service here is straight TRASH. 5 different people I tried to get assistance from didn't speak English including the guy who checked me out. He rushed me and I noticed after leaving my items wrong up wrong. Which is why I was trying to ask the question before paying. How to have a normal Pak 'N Save Shopping Experience: 1. Go at a weird time, like 3 PM on a Wednesday. Sorry to people that work 9 to 5s, this first step will be challenging for you. 2. Prepare your list ahead of time in the app. Realize that none of the aisles in the list correspond to the aisles in real life. Also realize that there's a 50-50 chance that something you'll want is locked up. 3. Pray that there will be more than one cashier open. Even at peak business hours, like weekend afternoons, there are usually only a few Express checkouts and maybe 1 or 2 standard lines. Self checkout has been closed for a long time now. 4. Exit without attracting the attention of the armed guards, random loiterers, and other people trying to make conversation with you. This isn't as big of an issue for me because, again, I go at weird times when there usually isn't anyone hanging out. I go here for the convenience of the location but it's definitely not the best. Other than all of this it's a standard grocery store. Doesn't have as much selection for vegan foods or specialty stuff but if you have the free membership and use the app you can get some really good deals. The deli people are also extremely nice and helpful. There is also a section at the back of the store with discounted goods like day old bakery bread & out of season stuff. This is nice and I don't mind getting a nice 50% discount for slightly stale bread. read more

I usually work quickly as possible, here are the steps I take. 1) find a parking spot 2) pray to the Lordt that myself and my vehicle remain unscathed in my perilous journey to Pak N Save. 3) Run in the store like I'm Marshawn Lynch breaking through the Defensive line of the opposing team. 4) Grab what I need. no need to lollygag. 5) Self check out because I don't need no attitude from people in line or the checker. Just as I got up to the line a baby faced employee inserted his imperious self and announced to me that he was cutting the line. Closing it. Go over to that line pointing to the one I had been in. He was unrelenting when I explained I just came from the busier and slower line. This line is closed. He snottily barked. I said I wasn't going to wait and that I would leave my items. I dumped them out of my bag on a counter and walked out. Oh my. I also muttered I can't put up with this place. And that's the real truth bottom line. I like the selection. It's Checking out at Safeway, no matter the location: there's always a problem, a delay, a long wait. I can't deal. It's anxiety provoking. And clearly management could care less. I live across from a Safeway. As others have noted, it's worth it to drive 10 minutes to Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe's, Sprouts. So, there's a liquor/medicine/non-grocery section in the middle of the store that they just can't seem to figure out. It used to have two cashiers and was corralled such that you had to pay for everything in your cart if you stumbled in there unawares, then they opened it up so you could grab your Aspirin or VapoRub or whatever and pay at the main checkout, then they got rid of the cashiers altogether and it was paradise, just like in the before-times. Then a few weeks ago they locked everything up behind glass and you had to find the one poor, underpaid employee who had the key, who would give you your stuff to pay for as you left and as of today the employee (Again, ONE GUY, on a Sunday afternoon, who I have nothing but sympathy for) takes your items to one of the cashiers and you have to get in the right line and ask for your stuff as you're checking out. Look, I know shoplifting is a problem, but this is insane and I can't believe the losses from customers simply giving up and getting their stuff elsewhere doesn't at least equal, if not exceed, the losses from pilfering. After today it's Amazon all the way for Ibuprofen and shaving cream for me and I can't imagine that doesn't go for thousands of other disgruntled shoppers. Is Safeway (or whoever's in charge) aware of this? Anyone know whose ear to bend? Again, I can't believe this isn't costing them as much as if not more than shoplifting losses. I noted that the area has been unsafe, too many panhandlers, aggressive employees (snarky in a way, when they come off as passive aggressive, not all. There are some that are actually wonderful) The food at the bakery, it's wet and squishy, so i told them and they said "oh, we forgot to remove that my apologizes" its alright human error. I stopped by this Pak N' Save / Safeway for the first time recently. While I was able to generally find everything I needed and the selection was fine to me, plus I was able to get a discounted cheesecake slice from the bakery section, I didn't like the presence of security guards, more security camera monitors than I've usually seen in Safeway, and gates to go through to leave the checkout area since it definitely gives a feeling that the store is treating you as a thief rather than a welcomed shopper. However, it is pretty close to the 72 AC Transit bus lines. read more

I rarely write 1-star reviews, but I have a love and hate relationship with Pak N' Save. It probably gets tons of foot traffic as shelves are usually empty or out of stock. It's interesting that the name is different as technically, it's part of the Safeway family and I can use my Safeway card here. Therefore, I'd expect the same type of customer service as most Safeways. In the past, I've tolerated horrible customer service at the registers ranging from being overcharged for something, but I didn't catch it until I left the store and didn't think it was worth the time to rectify the situation to being charged for a plastic bag when I brought my own reusable totes. However, during my most recent visit, I was accused of fraud for using a manufacturer coupon for Dave's Killer Bread and that was the last straw. A positive is that this location has ample parking, is near the freeway, and is easily accessible by public transportation. There are no other big-box supermarkets in this part of town. After my most recent visit, I am considering investing the extra 10-15 min to visit other big-box supermarkets. #45/2021 read more

The store is never stocked. They're always out of anything important that you need. Then the produce and meats don't look fresh at all. It's terrible! Then at Starbucks, there's never any workers at the register. They go on long breaks. I mean... Anywhere between 30 to 45 minute breaks when you're only supposed to be on a 10 minute break. How ghetto is that? As you can see from the picture. I've been waiting here for 30 minutes now. The worker was supposed to come back over 25 minutes ago. Smfh. This place is kept up to date, it's pretty clean and I like it because it has a Starbucks inside and security at the front. The Security team is pretty cool, they greet you at the entrance or when you leave at times. The workers there are nice. Parking can be kinda hectic, you have to pay attention to the arrows. (Some people don't notice or care and just make the wrong turns) This place is pretty big, you can find what you need here. Unless you are looking for particular Asian items. The sandwich/hot food place is a bit of a bit or miss, sometimes you get a great worker and sometimes you get one that just doesn't care. I used to buy a sandwich and a small soup not knowing that if I just added a drink it would be so much cheaper ! So a sandwich is $7, small soup is about $3.50 and a drink is maybe $2 but if you get a sandwich , soup and drink which becomes a combo, it's a total of $9! They look like they are making an effort here though. read more

Very solid grocery store. I come here for convenience, and they usually have what I want. Like many others have mentioned, it is not the safest location. If you come here frequently enough, you will see people taking stuff off the shelves and running out the store. Also, carefully check the prices when you are paying. For months now, some of the greens listed at $2.19 are rung up at $2.89. A tip: If you're going to shop here, use the Safeway app. They usually have good deals, and the deals get correctly applied about 90% of the time. read more

Note the purchase amount debited was the exact balance to the penny left in the account. Leaving me with and overdraft fee for the transaction charge! $476.75!! Yesterday evening, I went to the pharmacy of this supermarket as usual to pick up my prescription . The waiting time was a bit longer than usual, but it was still acceptable. I saw some sweet corn that I like and took a few. Then I went to the checkout counter at the entrance. Maybe it was the end of the workday, so there were so many people in the queue. I chose the express lane because I only bought a few ears of corn. I waited for about twenty minutes before it was my turn, The cashier lady greeted me, which was nice. But the payment process was very bad. When I entered my phone number, I was a bit nervous because there were so many people in the queue and I wanted to leave quickly, so it didn't go smoothly. Since I was using a new EBT card, the operation was more complicated than the old one. I don't know why it's the same in other places, but it always works and I'm sure there's enough balance in the card. But when the lady took the card and entered the card number, she told me that the balance on the card was zero. I was very shocked because there was still few hundred dollars in the card. I decided not to waste time and used my credit card to pay and leave. At this point, the lady seemed very flustered and the printer didn't work, so I didn't get a receipt. After I got home, I checked the EBT balance online and found no problem. I've had many bad experiences shopping at supermarkets, but this one was particularly bad. read more

Came in on 11/6/2019 @5:00 at sunset. I like this store cuz I recently found $40.00 in cash in the parking lot and I felt it was my kinda day & store. There are lots of homeless & aggressive persons hanging outside but they already know that I'm not a millennial, so they don't even approach my azz - for real. The store is clean and organized but I have often found expired perishable items fully stocked on the shelves. I have also loaded my basket with expired items and given them to the cashier but they probably go back on the shelves after I exit and I'm not wasting my gas or getting paid to go back to check. One thing you don't wanna do is leave anything in sight in your vehicle - only millennials and mid-west folks do that just to get the surprise of their lives when OPD doesn't show up to take a report. You pack and they save. The prices are the same as safeway with less service to you. The deli section is horrible. The food taste toxic like they are frying the chicken with 20w 50 motor oil. Change your oil once in awhile! Nothing is ever in stock. You always get charged the wrong price and when you bring it up to the cashier, they are not helpful. The pak and save scheme is to send you these coupons only good for that location with a good deal and then never stock the item so they don't have to honor it. And I once saw a fly in the donut case landing on a ton of donuts with its fly dookie legs and told an employee about it. They fixed the issue right away. This place has never been a joy to go to but it is the closest grocery store open after 10pm. So I go there at least once a week despite there always being questionable characters hanging out in front of the store either waisted or asking for money. The store it's self is ok, basically a Safeway with a different name. Prices aren't any cheaper than Safeway but seems like they should be with a name like Pak n SAVE! I have gotten good deals on their meat although the selection is lacking. Everything in the personal care section is way over priced! After deciding their confusing receipt I discovered no discount given and went back two time in the evening but never got credited for it. Just went to Pak n Save against my better judgment to buy some chicken for today's dinner, bought the fresh chicken from the butcher shop (bad idea) as soon as I got home and opened it to cook it stunk!!! It was bad and there was a case load in the butcher shop case. So this is pretty much a Safeway. Prices: 4/5 - Usually I come here because they have deals on their Chobani Flip cups - 10 for $10! Also, they have a great selection of juices at a sale price of $2.50 for 2 quarts. Speed: 1/5 - Even though there were 5 cashiers working the lines and the self check out, there was a loooong line. Understandably, it's a Sunday afternoon and everyone is trying to buy groceries for the week, but I think it had more to do with the clientele than the cashier's speed. My line was backed up by customers who were trying to lower their total cost by checking prices and removing items from their cart. Personally never had an issue with this store until recently (aside from the rent-a-cops that treat homeless people like animals), but the changes that resulted from the store treating everyone like a criminal have made this place a total pain in the ass. It will take you five minutes to get what you need and 25 minutes to get out of the store because there are only one or two checkers working. Those checkers are getting interrupted by every second customer because there are so many issues. "Express" lane? Doesn't matter because there are only two lanes open, so you're going to be behind the person with 60 items regardless of which line you choose, even at off-peak hours. Attempting to shop here is basically a punishment. The amount of money I "saved" on my most recent trip was less than the value of the time I spent standing in line - by a lot. read more

I've been coming to this Pak N Save for years, and it's hard to give this place anymore than three stars even if it's just the local grocery store. Some of the staff are very friendly, I like to talk to some of the people in produce, they will give you recommendations and suggest certain products over others. The people at the meat and deli counter are also very nice and helpful. The biggest issue with this location, is during the checkout process, the people at the self check out area are very unhelpful. They usually seem bothered to be having to help you out with one of the many issues with the computer systems. The traditional checkout lanes are very slow, and usually there are issues with miscommunication. For example a shift change they will not let you know that you're being buried in a very slow line. Also, because this area is in a pocket of a gentrifying or transitioning neighborhood, they always keep one of the main doors closed. This is probably to prevent possible theft, but it makes the overall flow of this place naturally slow by design. I will keep coming back because its my neighborhood store, but I suggest you come in with time and patience. read more

One star for the friendly workers, and one for selection. Otherwise, this shopping experience is the worst. It feels as though the people running the store hate the clientele. It's always something. First, they sectioned away all of the medicine, alcohol and personal care items, and they make you pay for them before you leave that area. You can't pay for more than 15 items there, though, so if you have a bunch of stuff you get to stand two lines at two registers. Lovely. I assume this is because they couldn't control shrinkage, despite the large and intimidating presence of security guards everywhere. Now they have a "cart shortage," explained to me as the result of carts getting stolen. You're a big store, Pak 'n Save. Buy more carts. All of this seems like a wimpy response to the reality that this store is located near several encampment, and it seems they want to illicit hatred between their clients and the unhoused. Don't treat your customers like this. Whatever petty statement you're making, it's coming off as you being unable to adapt to your location, and putting all of your problems onto your us.
