DON'T EAT HERE!!! A friend and I found ourselves in Epping looking for a drink & dinner. We settled on Kume since the Seabrook, NH one is so good. I have to say we were sorely disappointed! They charged an extra $2 to put the rum in the middle of our scorpion bowl. Okay... I told the server I'm GF & DF and that I can only have my shrimp steamed. I was told that there would be another $2 up charge. I asked to see the manager she kept saying just another $2 that's all because it's more food. It's not more food it's actually less. My friend had the same back & forth about the up charging multiple times and the manager flat spaced out as she explained what was wrong with how business was being handled, nickle & diming while not seeing the dollars lost. The manager was a nightmare. Now I can do some big damage when it comes to sushi and we would have had a $200 night but now they will be losing $$$$. We ended up cancelling all of our sushi order finished our drink and left with a horrible experience to pass on to our friends, friends, friends. read more

DO NOT GET HIBACHI IF YOU ARE VEGETARIAN I came here with a big group who all ordered meat, after all of their meat was cooked and put on their plates, the chef poured my vegetables on top of the remaining bits of meat and juices and sauteed them in it. Went with my husband and daughter for dinner, we had sushi and then a steamed noodle and vegetable dish for my toddler. The language barrier posed an issue at a few points. My daughter and I are vegan so I simply asked if there was egg or dairy in certain dishes. I asked with several things and she never asked if there was an allergy or warm my about any dish. The server brought out the standard salad (with mayo dressing) and miso soup and what not. The food was good but I feel the staff should be better trained in food restrictions/allergies. read more

GROSS!! We had our company lunch here and boy were we in for a shock. The man cooking our food was so inappropriate. He squirted sake in the VP's mouth without even telling her what it was. (Glad she wasn't pregnant.) He got it all over her blouse and ruined it! We were all mortified. He squirted it in our younger female staff member's mouth and he told her she had a sexy mouth. Then held the bottle over his crotch and said drink from my wee wee. (I'm not making this up) Then made sexual connotations with tongue! The place was freezing the whole time. As we were leaving we walked by a food cart for the next party at the hibachi and the food they were going to cook for them was not even covered!! I really wanted to like this place, especially since now this is the closest restaurant with sushi to where I live. However when my wife and I sat at the sushi bar and ordered some Red Snapper I watched the chef take out a plastic package clearly labelled 'Tilapia', open it, and then slice off a couple of pieces and serve it to us. I mentioned this to the manager and the response was underwhelming, especially since serving one fish as if it was another is fraud and clearly illegal under FDA guidelines. For some reason we decided to give the teppanyaki a try and just not ever order sushi again and frankly that was underwhelming as well - although it appeared to at least be the meat we ordered. Either way, definitely not worth the money. First time, shame on them. Second time, shame on me, clearly. There definitely won't be a third time. read more

Went to kume for my buddy's birthday and we had a great time..........until the 20 year old waiter told my wife she was shut off. She had a Maitai and a martini while the rest of us had maitai's, scorpion bowls, and sake's poured down our throats the entire night. When i tell you she was THE most responsible person in our group of six, i mean it. She was so offended she not only wouldn't eat the food, which was decent, she also wouldn't even let them refill her empty water glass. We are all in our mid thirties. It was embarrassing. We will never go here again. The most disappointing thing was the manager came over five time to apologize and try to get my wife to order another drink, but she obviously was done. Then the waiter came back to wrap up the meals and asked every person at the table if they wanted to bring their meal home but her. I am done w this place forever. Not good. read more

I've eaten here many times, I've dined in and taken out hundreds of times. Today I ordered take out, looked at the menu first to see what myself and coworker wanted. Called the order in and then 30 minutes later i went to pick it up. The atmosphere when you first walked in already wasn't super welcoming just staff looking at you. Then the phone rang so the person at the desk answered it while another staff member just stood there and looked at me until she finally asked if I had a take out order. I brushed that stuff off as I know they were busy and mid lunch rush. But then the lady who was just looking at me rang me out I noticed I was charged almost $10 more than what the menu (plus tax) would have been. I questioned it and they got the manager. The manager quickly pulled up on her phone the menu, that was different than what was brought up on my phone when I searched the Epping NH Kume location. She proceeded to shove her phone in my face without even allowing me to pull up the menu on my phone and just kept saying "no, no, this is the menu you used the wrong one". Her throwing her phone in my face, not letting me talk and telling me I was wrong in front of other guests at her restaurant. I felt so uncomfortable and so embarrassed. Over what? Me questioning the cost of our meals? There was zero customer service and she was so rude. Then she brought up how she has a kid at home and doesn't get to take time off and misses birthdays and what not. Is that the reason you upped my bill $10 to compensate for the fact your missing out on events? I'm pretty sure we all as a world have things going on and we all miss things but is that a reason to be rude or to charge me extra? Or just embarrass me and tell me I'm wrong when I questioned the price? After all that was said and done I got back to my work opened the food, the veggies (broccoli specifically) was burnt and had an awful taste, the salad tasted as if it was prepared on a freshly bleached counter and the steak seemed as they just gave me the outside fat pieces. I certainly will not be ordering from the Epping Kume again and won't be recommending it to anyone. Very sad as I go here for every birthday celebration. read more

I recently went to kume with my family and I have mixed reviews about the place.... First off the food overall was good. But the wait and atmosphere was less than expected to say the least. I have a shrimp allergy and asked for not shrimp and the cook just threw it on my plate. I will try kume again to see if I will recommend the place or not. read more

I used to love Kume, I came here often for sushi. The last couple of times though, I have the impression that the quality of the fish is way less then it used to be. I think it is a real pity, won't go there much anymore. If you want to order the lunch bento box, don't. It is not at all anything like the picture. You basically pay for white rice. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. There were three of us that went here for lunch a couple weeks ago. A server came over after about 15 minutes and we were ready so ordered drinks and food right then. Another 15 minutes went by (so we had already been here 30 minutes) and he hadn't brought our drinks or even waters!! We asked another waitress to at least bring us waters but she said no because she wasn't our server wtf? Finally we spoke to a manager but that didn't solve much. After we finally got our drinks we were joined by a fourth guest and our server never greeted her or asked if she wanted anything wtf!? My friend and I stopped here by chance a few weeks ago and we loved it! The sushi is really fresh and the presentation was beautiful as well. We did not have super high expectations especially in Epping, but I feel like this place is better than Shio. Nice ambiance and good desserts, too. Have not tried the hibachi yet. Really enjoyed our first trip to Kume! The filet mignon was very good. It was seasoned very well and the unusual vegetables were tasty. The fried rice was fresh and hot. The fun and laughter from the hibachi room next door was enticing! We'll be back for that. read more

Went here with another couple for dinner on Friday night. The place fills up quick so plan to wait if you get there past 6pm. The waitress had a hard time understanding us and a few times we waited for drink and refills. We were the last people seated at a tables with others and they already ordered and were finishing the salad so we were rushed through our appetizers and soup. I was getting nervous that this would ruin my experience, but the cook really redeemed the experience. He put on such a great show and really got everyone excited at the table so it made up for the rushing. By the end of the meal all of us were laughing and joking around the table. The two young kids at the table had as much fun as the adults. I have been to a lot of these restaurants and although the food was not the best I have ever had, but it was still good. Worst sushi I've ever had. The fish did not taste fresh at all it was even room temp when it came out. The manager also tried to turn it back on us he was fairly rude to us also acting like we didn't know what it was supposed to taste like but i get sushi a lot I know what good sushi tastes like. This is my new go to place. I have been here a few times and for any date in the future, I will go here. The specials are wonderful and their drinks are great! I highly recommend the hibachi especially if you have a larger party. I also recommend the Kume for two, mostly seafood and so good. The service is good as long as you get someone who speaks decent English. I had a great bartender once when I went there as well. Its a little pricey but worth every dollar. At 5pm on February 18th my wife and I walked into Kume. There was a woman on the phone at the entrance. A women at the bar and 2 waitress at the end of the bar and a waiter who walked in front of us. In short, the sushi was ok and the service was terrible. The server rarely came to the table and was rude when she did. Overcharged us for sushi à la carte. The server argued and explained that the pricing was higher than listed in the menu for the particular item I ordered. What?? How is that ok?? My rice under my sushi was stale. We always enjoy Kume in Epping as our go-to place for a quick healthy sushi meal. We usually split the sushi deluxe, and sometimes a roll (recently had the Christmas and it was really good), edamame and an appetizer of some kind (calamari is not too good - not hot or crispy). Unfortunately, on our most recent visit, it was really disappointing to see how filthy the floor (rug) was. And the booths as well. Yummy is all I can say! Great food! Fun atmosphere! Friendly staff! Hard to find good sushi and Asian bistro but it's nice to have something in the area now I can go to other than pizza and subs. Ordered 2 shrimp fried rice to take out after the movies, to eat at home. Had previously gone there for hibachi and always enjoyed the rice although the meats tend to be hit and miss, so assumed that take out rice would be just as good. Boy was I wrong. Over $23 for 2 plastic containers of mushy rice that was so overcooked it literally didn't break apart when you put in the fork but came out in clumps of yucky mushy mess. As for the shrimp, there were 5 in one tray, 4 in the other, undersized and chewy. No real vegetables to speak of except for about 3 peas and 2 tiny scraps of cut green bean. Very disappointing .. won't make that mistake again. Would have given a 1 star if I hadn't had a decent hibachi in the past, but to be clear, the take out was beyond disgusting. read more

The food at this Kume was way overcooked but the service was much worse. Our chef did not do any of the hibachi "tricks" that we've come to expect and that the kids in our party were looking forward to. He didn't do the onion volcano, the egg trick, or squirting the "kids' sake" into their mouths, even though the chefs at some of the other grills in the room were doing these things. When we asked afterwards why the chef didn't do any of this, instead of offering an apology the manager offered a series of really dumb excuses, beginning with: "The chef is tired and he didn't have time to eat dinner," then moving on to "We're so busy tonight and how am I supposed to know how busy it's going to be?" and finally to this doozy: "Well, you didn't tip him while he was cooking and you have to tip him if you want him to do those things." This restaurant is great. Unique for this area and always delicious. This review is based primarily on the non-hibachi options. (The hibachi is good but a bit standard faire - hibachi is more of an "experience" anyway.) although we aren't Japanese connoisseurs, Kume's sushi, noodles, and soups are always incredibly tasty and surprisingly light - the sign of a well cooked meal. You can eat multiple courses and still feel full without being weighed down by grease or heavy tones. Sit down service has always been great and takeout service can take away, but somewhat understandable as meal is fresh and restaurant is usually packed. Really love having this as an alternate to American Chinese food. read more

I went there for Happy Hour! Sat down ordered and clearly stated I was getting the happy hour special. Which is half price appetizers! I ordered 3 different appetizers and everything was fine until I got my bill. They charged me full price appetizers so I called the waitress over and told her the problem. She then tells me oh we don't do happy hour for the dining room only the bar. I then told her the woman who took my order told me I could have Happy Hour prices. She refused to fix my bill! I have been coming to this restaurant for awhile getting the Happy Hour special and never was told bar only. When you go to this restaurant please watch your total on your bill.
