During the week they have $5 happy hour appetizer which is a plus and the beef gyoza is perfect. Ordered the Mexican roll and Red Fox roll and it was great too. The chef/owner was quick, friendly, and very accommodating. The waitress was learning but patient. The menu here is very expansive and has a lot of options. Surprisingly great experience. The inside decor is nice and authentic. Now the location isnt the safest. The outside isnt impressive at all. But in the daytime its a welcoming place to go.

This place is a gem! I stopped in for lunch right when they opened and had such a great experience. The restaurant was clean and the staff (just the sushi chef and one server) were incredibly friendly. It happened to be happy hour, and the appetizers were about half off. I ordered the spicy garlic edamame, gyoza, and the chef's special sushi plate -- everything came in generous portions and the sushi was so fresh. I live about 20 minutes away and would absolutely make the trip again and again.

Clean and fast service, went on a Thursday around 5pm, food tasted fresh and good customer service. I shared monkey ball and baked lobster roll. Monkey ball was my favorite! Never had mushrooms in this way with crab meat and Philadelphia cheese. Baked lobster was good but for me it had a little too much of the sauce that was used which over powered the sushi. I also got a crunch hand roll, good taste , good size and very filling. Overall good spot! The sushi prices range from $10-20. They also have boats for 3-4 people. Will definitely be back to try other sushi!

I can confidently say that Chef Bruce served me one of the best meals I've had all year. My family and I went to Kumi Ko a few days before Christmas, and we were absolutely blown away by the quality of ingredients and the skillfulness of execution. We did an omakase style meal, where Chef Bruce basically handcrafted a menu showcasing his signature dishes. Each dish was top-notch, highlighting different flavors and sauces and textures. Two of the standout dishes were the seafood udon, which had a warm kick (chili oil I think?) and the tako sashimi which was served with a citrusy gochujang sauce. But regardless of what you order, I genuinely don't think you could go wrong. Next time our family is in LA, we will definitely be back!

I work right around the corner and I just tried Kumi Ko today! Their sushi was really good and tempura was fresh! I also tried their Iced Matcha drink and I would definitely recommend trying this sushi spot here in Compton! There was only one person working so it did take a little longer to get serviced but overall the service and ambiance of the restaurant was amazing! I plan on returning.

What a Gem! This is truly a delicious and cozy Compton spot. Look beyond the area and go try this delicious place . We had Heart attack and creamy Shrimp for appetizers and my partner got a few fresh sushi and I got the baked salmon roll that was super creamy and yummy! The Matcha LATTE WAS very nice

Went to place a large order and who appeared to be the manager/owner was rude and very unapologetic. He also had the audacity to give himself a huge gratuity of over $60 dollars. He also gave us 2 choices take it or leave it. So we left it. He also snatched the receipt from me, but I took a picture before hand.

The experience that my friend and I had today was outstanding. The food was great and is definitely worth the while on stopping to get a bite. Although I would suggest to take the time and dine-in for the full experience. Also if you order the spicy chicken be warned it is very spicy so be careful but I loved it read more

Sashimi was fresh. Not from frozen. Food was made to order so it took about 30 min from call to pickup but well worth the wait. All COVID precautions followed from what I could tell upon picking up my order. Already planning my next visit. read more

My partner and I have been here about 4 times and each time it only gets tastier... granted the last 2 times have been take out and the food is still delicious!! We love their sushi, entrees and desserts.. the salmon and beef teriyaki are our favorite ones and the servings are plentiful :) quality of food is amazing everything tastes so fresh!! read more

The restaurant itself is impeccably clean. I have never had sit-down service as I started ordering from here since Covid, but they are always very friendly and accurate with takeout times. Beautiful restaurant with amazing food and a fun staff, it's rare you find good Sushi here in compton but this place is a gem. I was able to try dragon roll the kumiko roll and the beef udon noodle soup everything was fresh and delicious not to mention the tempura ice cream. Customer service is trash! Mind you I ordered here all the time and every time I try to place an order the host gave me a hard time about not wanting onions on my dish. I'm a very kind and respectful person and it's just a bummer how they always seem to give me such a hard time to acomódate to my small requests. I was placing an order for dinner and they rather turn away my business then to accommodate to a simple request (no onions). Not eating here again! read more

Visited this establishment on a whim; I was in Jury Duty, and it was our break. I was completely unfamiliar with the area, and all I typed into the Yelp search bar was "food". I've always been partial towards Japanese food since I was a child, so this place was perfect for me. It's a small establishment, with limited parking. However, it's clean and well decorated. The moment you step in, you're welcomed by a friendly staff with warm smiles. I started with a don bowl, rather than your stereotypical sushi rolls (Japanese food isn't only sushi and teriyaki chicken!). I also ordered a cucumber salad, with an unsweetened ice tea. The staff would come by go check up on me periodically, which I appreciate. One even started a small conversation with me, since I was alone. The food was, for lack of a better word, scrumptious!They serve large helpings, too; so be prepared to take leftovers. I didn't have time to try anything else, since I was pressed for time. This restaurant provides great service. It's also easy to find. I ordered from the lunch menu and ordered salmon miso flavor with a side of sashimi( it comes in 6 pieces). It comes with miso soup and salad. The dressing on the salad is really good. The miso soup I got, however, didn't have any tofu. Now to rate the salmon, I thought it was okay. The cook salmon didn't taste fresh. It has a frozen smell to it so don't think I would order it again. The sashimi was fresh though. I wish the wasabi has stronger taste though. They also give you a free appetizer when you check in. I think it's still a pretty good sushi place for Long Beach. The price is very reasonable. It's $13 for lunch and $2 more for sushi or sashimi if you didn't want a roll. read more

Such and awesome little place. We seen a asian man in a traditional Japanese Susi outfit, dancing outside. We had to stop! So happy we came in to try. Wish I could give them a 10 star rating. Yes, Compton has sushi with a real life Japanese sushi chef. Kumi Ko is a sweet little spot. Standing in the space of a former hamburger stand is this transformed sit down restaurant with generous portions of yummy sushi. The chef was super friendly and accommodating for additions or subtraction to menu items. We will definitely be back. I love a neighborhood joint. read more

This just became my favorite sushi spot. Not only are the rolls amazing but the service as well. In my opinion, nothing beats a family owned and operated business. Fresh fish, amazing cucumber salad, the monkey balls are delightful, and the thai tea was perfect (not overly sweet like most). I wish I took pictures of the other items we got. Super small setting. Limited parking spaces but they still had their own private parking. Service is super sweet and the chef seems to genuinely care if customers enjoy the food. Friend and I shared the kumi boat and there was a lottt. 2 rolls and then a bunch of nigiri. I would say 3 people with small stomachs could finish it. Even though we got there an hour before closing sushi still tasted fresh. I would go back for my sashimi nigiri cravings read more

I ate here a couple months back and was totally blown away at the quality, cleanliness and customer service at this location. The sushi was fresh and very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. First of all, it's in Compton. Of course I read the reviews but, I was still skeptical. I live in Orange County around a lot of amazing Asian foods including a lot of delicious sushi. I can literally eat sushi every other day. I don't but, I could. The first time I came here, I made the mistake of not ordering ahead. I waited a long time. I was irritated since I was on my lunch. But, I realized it was my fault. There's no indoor dining. The first time I came, it was pouring rain. I came the second time and they had tents and tables set up outside. It was cute. You have to order inside first and take your stuff outside to eat. I got the sashimi and sushi bento the first time. I was shocked how fresh the fish tasted. And how much food it came with. I was feeling a little extra that day and also ordered a hand roll and an order of ikura. It also came with Miso soup. I got the sashimi lunch special and it was just enough. Again, it was tasty and fresh. And they're so nice. I've only been there once and the lady inside remembered me! When I'm craving sushi at work, I'll come have it here! Okay so let me start off by saying that I found out about this place nearly a year ago and omg do I regret not writing a review before because this place is AMAZING. I love sushi and I'm so glad I don't have to drive out of my city to get some now. Kumi Ko is consistent, delicious, and reliable. Never fails. My favorite special roll is the Crunch Red Fox roll and my current favorite is the Spicy Chicken meal, which for the price you also get rice, salad, and a miso soup! If you're thinking of trying this place out pls do so! Since COVID many places have been affected drastically and there's still ways for us to support. They always have my food ready for pick up and I've ordered on Uber eats and my food gets to me on time and still hot and fresh depending on the meal!! What a pleasant surprise. Did not think a restaurant of this quality would exist in the humble city of Compton. I had the Spicy Sashimi Salad and was blown away by the freshness of the ingredients and the bursts of flavor I had with every bite. Walking inside the restaurant felt like teleporting into a different world - with upscale traditional Japanese decor and soft jazz permeating from the speakers. The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the service was top-notch. Although the lunch menu was a bit pricey, the quality justified the cost. Despite not being located in the best part of town, the establishment had its own parking lot, and I felt safe throughout my visit.
