Yvonne at Poki Yaki in Compton gave me top-tier service with a smile that made the whole experience even better! From the moment I walked in, she was friendly, attentive, and made sure I was taken care of. I ordered the teriyaki ramen bowl--seriously, it was fire! Rich, flavorful broth, perfect noodles, and that savory teriyaki hit just right. Honestly, everything on the menu looked tasty, and what I've tried so far backs that up. Shoutout to Yvonne for making the meal feel like a five-star experience in the heart of Compton--I'll definitely be back!

Great service, great food, and clean place. Decided to come in for some quick lunch and had their chicken bowl. The portion was okay in size but I strongly recommend getting a side as I didn't get full with the bowl. They have a great lunch roll special.

Regular bowl. I forgot to take a picture before sorry

Arrived around 5:15pm. This location closes at 6:30 Staff was very helpful and welcoming. There's plenty of parking.... Big plus. This is a very casual place, felt vary comfortable and it's not too loud in there. Food was amazing. Everything taste super fresh. I highly recommend it.

Place an order and this is what I picked up. The plastic plate is dirty and had a dead bug inside :( Loss my appetite.

It was kind of difficult to find this place, but we were determined to try this place out. The positives: They give a delicious, fresh Jasmine Green Tea as long as you check in on the Yelp app. They were more than willing to help answer questions since this was our first time. I ended up ordering the Chicken Teriyaki which was pretty good with a nice, generous serving. It came with vegetables which I enjoyed. My kid, who doesn't normally eat broccoli, seemed to enjoy it too. The negative: My wife got the Alaska Roll which I also tasted and it was very unappetizing. It tasted not fresh and the salmon was subpar. Heads up - they don't provide a cup of water so be prepared to purchase a bottle of water if you prefer H2O for a beverage. Parking was quick and easy. Most spots say 45 minutes maximum parking. They also serve ramen and poke here. I may give those a shot next time, but definitely will not get that Alaska Roll.

My bowl. This phot doesn't show how good it was. But it was bomb!

Wow! Good stuff! Came in for lunch. New place for me. Everything was fresh. Wide selection. Great portions. Free miso soup with every bowl. Service was really good. Definitely coming back. I absolutely loved it!

Adri is the best i definitely recommend coming to this spot. Adri didn't let me down on preparing the poki bowl and gave me such a good tasting bowl that today I came back and let her know just the same way you made it last time. If you are I'm the area stop by and treat yourself.

I normally don't like writing negative reviews, and I waited to cool down-before I wrote this. I like to settle things before I leave with a manager or owner. I recently started a new job in the vicinity, and unfamiliar with the area. I asked a couple of my work associates, if there were any nearby eatery-they recommended this small plaza with several eateries. I walked around, and decided on having some California rolls from Poki Yaki due to it being a very hot day-wanted something light. Upon entering the establishment, the 3 people working there had already sized me up-aggressively asking me "Can I Help you", I already knew that I wanted the California rolls...that's when things started to go south. The lady behind the counter proceeds to tell me that, that Black people like the crunchy fried rolls, and that I should have that too!! I was like did I just hear her say that-wtf? I don't eat anything fried, thank you for asking! I'm a professional, and not about to cause a raucous over a very unprofessional business owner who obviously needs sensitivity guidance. I finally got my California rolls, and politely told that women behind the counter that I didn't appreciate the way she spoke to me. Instead of apologizing, she proceed to tell me I was too sensitive...again wtf? Had she apologized, and told me she would be cautious about how she spoke to customers-I would have accepted her answer....but instead she told never to come back! The California rolls were nothing spectacular, I'm sure they were from Costco. The owner's attitude toward paying customers has a lot to be desired...so this combination left a bad taste in my mouth-thus the 1 star rating so I could write this review.

Poke Bowl - Large $15 (no rice)

This place is a complete sh** show. I feel liKe every worker here acted like a chicken with no idea, everyone seemed so stressed out. Also, the food (IMO) just wasn't good. I got a large poke bowl, and honestly compared to other poke places, this large was a SMALL... And I watched as the woman loaded up my tiny box wIth the skimpiest portions of fish and toppings... It was insanely disappointing. As for how to tasted, bland and boring. Thank goodness for the avocado (that you have to ask for) because otherwise this place would have gotten 1 star from me. Definitely would never go bAck if I got the option to... I live nowhere near here anyways so I don't have to worry.

    Decent portion, ingredients look fresh

I visited this place after doing some sportfishing near long beach on this wednesday (i have no job). There are not many tables (5-7?) inside but fortunately i got a spot. If you visited busy time, expect to do take out. Ingredients were fresh portion was fine. Somehow i thought the owner was handsome - it is nothing to do with the rating but just my personal observation.

Large size poke. So much food!

10/10 -- We'll Definitely Be Back!…read more I recently tried Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen for the first time with a group of six leaders from my job. One of our coworkers has been coming here for 20 years, so we knew we were in good hands! The menu is EXTENSIVE and can be a little overwhelming for a first-timer, but our waitstaff was amazing--patient, friendly, and happy to help us navigate all the options. And trust me... we ordered! We tried several lunch combos, appetizers, and sides. I had the veggie ramen, and our table also enjoyed the fried green beans, veggie spring rolls, fried rice, and plenty of other goodies. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. What I loved most was the comfortable, no-frills atmosphere. This place has clearly been doing what they do for a long time, and it almost feels like you're eating in Grandma's kitchen--good food, welcoming service, and no need for anything fancy. And PLEASE don't leave without trying the plum wine! We ordered a bottle for the table, and it was delicious. 10/10 for the food, service, and overall experience. Ramen lovers, put this one on your list! We'll definitely be back.

The chashu was tender and flavorful, and every bite felt well balanced. The pork rice bowl was just as good and is worth ordering if you're hungry. The restaurant is clean, modern, and has a relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly even though the place was busy. It was 90 degrees outside, hoping that inside would be in the 70s which was not the case. Made our stay uncomfortable. Regardless, ordered 2 Ramen bowls, pork and chicken flavor. Also ordered a pork bun. Watermelon cucumber flavor water was served as complimentary. Was refreshing! 15 mins later we received our soups and pork bun. All tasted very good! No complaints toward the quality of food being served. I asked our waitress if this restaurant still had a Michellin star rating? Her response, I dont know and I think so. I asked her to check with her manager, she came back 5 minutes later and stated her Manager does not know the answer as well. I find that quite odd Hmmmm .. Overall the food quality is great. The negative things on my visit are. 1. It was warm inside the restaurant which made it uncomfortable. 2. Only one small restroom 3. Prices are a tad on the expensive side. $19 to $20 a bowl. 4. I believe management was not being honest regarding my question about being a Michellin Star rated restaurant. How are you in management and dont know the status of your own restaurant? Honesty is the best policy. Good thing, food was good and everyone was friendly. Overall, i would come back because the food is good and the place does not get crowded.

I've been going to Tomizo since they opened. There were a few months after the initial visit that I…read moredidn't go and I'll explain in a sec, but since then I come probably twice a month now. Ironically speaking, I do not like Sapporo style ramen. I've never been a fan of Miso ramen, and for some reason Sapporo style is just something I do not enjoy. That being said, everyone I know that does like Sapporo style ramen say it is good. But then, why am I giving this place 5 stars and why do I eat here so often? Tomizo added tsukemen to their menu, and they have the best tsukemen in the area. It's a very rich heavy fatty tsukemen, and it blows away everywhere else's tsukemen in the area. The portions are always extremely generous as well. The most important thing is, they use actual tsukemen noodles, they are fat and thick, while a lot of places near here give you ramen noodles for their tsukemen. The other thing I absolutely love about this place is that they have seasonal ramen, and while I'm not a huge fan of some of them, other times they are just amazing. The current seasonal ramen is a cold cream tonkotsu style, and it is absolutely divine. My partner got it last night and it was so good, I wanted to come back tonight to get an order of it myself. I absolutely hope they decide to add it to their main menu permanently, because a cold ramen dish would be a god send to have readily available. The staff are all wonderful, incredibly attentive, and are all very cheerful and upbeat. The music variation changes quite a bit. Sometimes it'll be vocaloid heavy, other times it'll be very late 90s sounds of Tokyo (Fantastic Plastic Machine, Pizzicato Five), or sometimes an early 2000s jpop play list. As someone a little older I don't think there's ever been a time I didn't enjoy the music being played. They also always have dodgers games (reruns during the offseason) playing on a tv for the local fans. The only real bad thing about Tomizo is the parking lot is tiny and shared with a sushi place that can get busy. So parking can be difficult sometimes.

The last time I came was sometime last year. I used to love the food here…read more Things to note that have changed. The spice levels are now serious lol, they pour less broth, and the fried rice changed. They skimped out on the meat in the fried rice and the flavor and texture has changed. The food was actually quite good. We both had a bowl of the Black Devil ramen at a spice level of 4. I was worried that this would be too much but it was actually a very manageable level of spice. The type of spice where I can still enjoy my food and not have to worry about eating it through hiccups or anything like that. I also had a side of the spicy katsu cutlet, which I also enjoyed very much. They brought me one big piece of chicken katsu and some scissors to cut it up, which I thought was neat. But every bite I had was wonderful, as it was clearly fried to perfection. The service was also on point and our server even let us try some of their devil sauce ( I do not remember if this was what it was called but it sure was spicy). A few drops of this in my bowl of ramen and I began to sweat profusely. She said barely anyone ever orders it and I can totally see why haha.
