This place is phenomenal. We take the kids to the aquarium of the pacific then come here for lunch or dinner. Today was dinner and we have nothing but praises. As far as quality goes this place was pretty good, especially for AYCE. The sushi was fresh, the service was relatively quick, and the staff were really nice. It's the perfect spot for a casual date night or dinner with friends. We tried a variety of sushi options including the dynamite, salmon pleasure roll, yellow tail, spicy tuna crispy rice, AIKAN special roll, rainbow roll, lion king roll, skinny salmon roll, and Long Beach roll. My favorites were the salmon pleasure and lion king rolls but honestly everything was delicious! I like that they bring them out in half orders so you can order a variety of options, eat at a good pace, and not waste because they do charge a fee if you order food and don't eat it. The sushi overall was just okay nothing that really stood out. The tuna in particular wasn't great and had a bit of an off taste which was disappointing. That said, upgrading to the premium menu was definitely worth it since it gives you more variety and better options to choose from. Coming to Aikan was like rediscovering an oldie but goodie. I have been to the Artesia location a few times back in 2022 post-Covid times, and it was my first time at LB location tonight. The parking was more ample and the restaurant seemed bigger too. The ambiance, music, service and food were five stars all around. The only thing to note was that they didn't bring out some orders - one piece of mackerel and an order of mussels- but it was nothing detrimental to the overall experience. Arrived about 8:50 and was told a 30 minute wait. By the time we got a table it was 9:48, and as they are taking us to our table she informs us that last call is 10:20 (giving us only 30 minutes to place our order and eat), ordered the 1st round and took 10 minutes to get which was a seaweed salad, sashimi salad, jalapeño poppers Which looked more like Serrano peppers and not good at all, and baked mussels which tasted rubbery, now we are rushing as we only have 10 minutes to place the last order before the last call. The rolls are small and fall apart easily grabbing them with your chop sticks, everything looked like it was hurried and the taste of the food was average at best, the service was okay. I am not sure where they source it, but often it's not fresh and tastes like it was dead or old when it was prepared. One of my favorite AYCE sushi spots you can eat at!! You will not find a better place than this for its value. The fact that you can get just straight sashimi here, unlike a nigiri which comes with rice, is just straight value. The fish also tastes extremely good, obviously not to the level of al la carte, but pretty damn close. The seared tuna is pretty spicy though, and I wished they did just normal tuna for the sashimi, but was still good in its own ways. The service here was wonderful! We got our food relatively quickly. You can also order more than 3 rounds, just ask for an extra paper for the 4 or more rounds. I don't always seek out AYCE sushi, but Aikan is great if you're in an AYCE mood. I like Aikan for a few reasons. First off, the nigiri is reasonably sized. None of this unappetizing oversized nonsense that other places do to trick customers into believing they're receiving more value with bigger cuts of fish. Enormous sized nigiri personally gives me the ick, but here at Aikan, they keep the pieces nice and classy. Besides, the sushi is unlimited so size doesn't necessarily matter. I also see and appreciate the moderate portions which allows you to try more things. Example: the nigiri rice is appropriately sized. Rolls come in 4 to 6 pieces - perfect if you're in the mood to try different rolls. Lastly, all the sides and appetizers all kinda pop off. I loved all the green things I ordered: cucumber/seaweed salad and shishito peppers. They offer a wide of array of items to offset all the sushi. It's $42.99 for a regular adult dinner. You can of course upgrade to the premium package for $54.99 if you're feeling rich. It's the perfect place to eat when you just want to dabble in a little bit of this and that. read more

Did someone say sushi? I heard you the first time!! Ayyee! On a rainy Saturday afternoon after running errands I ran up a massive appetite. So I texted my daughter and typed, "sushi?" My favs would have to be the agedashi tofu, tempura and baked salmon rolls. Yum yum and yum. But you know what took me to another level was the salmon cheek. Came out piping hot with lemon wedges and sauce. Something about that salmon cheek; I literally devoured it. The outer was fried just right with a great crunch. The only thing that made me say, eh was the crispy rice. A bit too hard and chewy. Felt like it was made a few days prior. Now don't take this as something to not try. Visited Aikan Sushi for the first time on a weeknight for dinner, and got seated immediately. I heard this place can get busy on the weekends though so be mindful of that! The sushi was very good, you can't really go wrong if you stick to ordering the stuff you like. And if you don't know what you like, it's easy to just try a little of each thing so you can order more of it on the next round! The salmon and squid were my highlights of this meal. I've found that AYCE sushi spots usually serve fish that's kinda fishy or just not that good, but I think that the quality is great considering the fact that it's AYCE. One negative with my experience is that we orders a few items for our last round to end our meal, but we were waiting for it to come for like 15 minutes when our other rounds came in less than 10. Also our last order was like 3 things and there wasn't a sudden rush of customers. So when the last items came we were literally too full to eat it because all the other food had settled but we had to eat it anyway so that we don't get charged for it. During those times, I try to put in smaller orders of nigiri so that I can make sure the sushi keeps on coming haha. I haven't had any issues getting more than 3 rounds of orders placed, I've always asked for an extra paper. Great deal considering the quality of the fish and amount of nigiri. I do appreciate that they don't pack their nigiris with a lot of rice like some other ayce sushi joints do. Also, depending on where you're sitting, consider bringing a jacket.
