Just arriving into Puerto Rico, this was the first stop on our food tour, and it did not disappoint! From the food, the drinks, the customer service, this restaurant got 5 stars! The restaurant is located on its hotel rooftop. It is open air so you feel the breeze while you dine. Bring a jacket or a shawl, because it can get a little chilly. Top faves that we ordered were the dumplings and the salmon tartare. Both were delicious and flavorful. The sauce in the dumplings was top tier. Make sure you order both of these. The branzino as charred so it was a surprise, so it was a little dry but still had flavor. The Waygu burgers didn't not have the best reputation however we ordered them anyway and they were on par with the other reviews. I had a custom cocktail, a tequila spin on amaretto sour, which was both delicious and a bit nostalgic. We also ordered the "Sennin", which was a bit overpowered by the peppercorn. Overall, I still rate this experience with 5 stars. Definitely visit ( and I recommend making reservations) while you are in Carolína and San Juan.
For our first night in Puerto Rico, we had dinner at Kumo to take in the beautiful views of the ocean. We loved the unique Japanese Peruvian fusion that their menu offered. Our waitress was attentive, and we appreciated her recommendation to add on more toast with our burrata appetizer so that everyone could enjoy. The food and drinks were all great! They had a WiFi issue with their POS system at the end, and even though we got a notification that we were charged, they said it wasn't received on their end. We ended up having to charge a different card again, but Nelson, the manager, made us feel better and made sure the phone number was written down so that they could reverse the charge if it comes through again. Overall a great vibe and nice way to kick off our vacation.
We booked a 5pm dinner at Kumo Rooftop on a windy day, and worried that it might be too gusty to enjoy a leisurely meal. No problem, it turned out -- we had a table on the West (leeward) side, and the wind was no issue, even at that elevation. So let's move on to the service, food, and drink. Our server was excellent - informative, describing details of menu items, and being sufficiently available without being a bother. Then the drinks! I ended up have two different cocktails; both were well thought out and assembled (the "Inti" and the "Rey Choro"). We had an appetizer of the dumplings of the day, filled with a pork-shrimp mix and with a great sauce. My entree was a Peruvian noodle dish with seafood, also excellent. I washed it down with a Japanese IPA that was blended with matcha green tea! A great way to close out the last day of our Puerto Rico trip.
Kumo nails it when it comes to vibe, service, and presentation. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the water, making it a lovely spot to unwind. The service was excellent -- attentive and friendly from start to finish. We ordered the sesame-glazed duck waffles, which were flavorful and well-prepared, but like the rest of the menu, the portion was very small. The sliders, while tasty, were shockingly tiny -- about the size of Oreo cookies -- which felt a bit odd for a main dish. We also had two cocktails: the Flor de Lima and the Rey Choro. Both were well-made and refreshing. Overall, the food and drinks were good, and the experience was pleasant. But considering the portion sizes, it's hard to say the price matches the value. Worth checking out for the ambiance and service, but just know you may leave a little hungry.
KUMO in Puerto Rico definitely delivers when it comes to ambiance--the space is beautifully designed with a breezy, tropical aesthetic that gives off Tulum vibes. With views overlooking the ocean, it's the kind of spot you want to fall in love with. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite match the setting. #1: Flame burrata: this was easily the weakest dish of the day. The flavor of the cheese was nearly nonexistent--1/5. #2: Yasai and tofu: The tofu had a nice balance between soft and crisp textures and was seasoned well. The Brussels sprouts had a solid crunch and were nicely cooked. I'd give it a 3.7/5. #3: Tofu sudao, which came labeled as "spicy," was a bit of a letdown. It was a tomato-based curry that hinted at South Indian flavors but didn't quite commit. It lacked depth and any type of heat, and the tofu was too soft to absorb the sauce in any meaningful way which ended up making it taste bland; 3/5. #4: Sides - edamame, which turned out to be one of the more enjoyable bites--simple but well-seasoned and full of flavor, 4/5. #5: Kumo Salad with tofu was pretty good with my favorite part being the surprise taste of the cashews that added a good crunch. 3.8/4. Overall, KUMO is a place with serious visual appeal, and the atmosphere makes it a great choice for a sunset drink or casual hangout. But if you're coming primarily for the food, it might not live up to the setting--at least not yet. 3 stars for now, with room to grow if the kitchen can match the energy of the space.
Your meal starts with a nice cocktail list and an excellent view. The menu is not large but items are selected to pair well together. The cuisine is Peruvian-Japanese. I have no idea how well it matches up to that standard , as I have never heard of this before. However I am glad I have now. Loved the mushroom skewers and the kumo salad (burrata made an excellent salad topper). The sudao was not as spicy as the menu implied but still good. All the dishes seemed thoughtful and well-prepared. My partner raved about her prawn. We had two excellent servers though the kitchen was a little slower than it seemed that it should be based on the house.
Breakfast and dinner was equally amazing. The views of the ocean during the day and the magic of the lights was beyond our expectations. Service was more personal at the evening time but we were also celebrating and they were packed with reservations needed so to that's all to be expected. Breakfast: Two eggs scrambled hard, cheddar Plain coffee **Breakfast potatoes w/parm!!!! Croissant buttered with blue berry jam Dinner: Pork belly w/broccolini Kumo salad Chicken Robata **Mocha desert!!
Amazing food. Amazing views no matter where you sit. Staff was so so friendly. We came here for breakfast and it was fairly empty. Our food took a little long but our waiter was very attentive and keeping us updated and regardless we weren't in a rush anyway. And then he gave us a free coffee as a thank you for being so patient . Great place all around!! Will def be coming back next time in PR again
Beautiful restaurant, very sexy and romantic. We were a party of 7 and we had a nice time because the food was Fuego The food was delicious from the appetizers to the entrees!! The duck was soooo good and cooked to perfection. The service was okay, could of been better for the type restaurant the present themselves to be. Our waitress was standoffish; made sense once we got the check though because the tip was included in the check, a nice tip too! I would definitely return because of the food when I'm in the area again, the food is worth it. Only giving it 3 stars because of the service.
Four drinks I tried are good, but Bloody Mary's was terrible. Service is the worse. Took me over 30 mins to get a waitress to come give me a menu at the pool. Then another 30 to get the drinks and another 30 to get the bill. The coffee machine broke at both restaurants. The food was decent. Dont come eat here until they get their shit right
What a great meal! From the ambiance, service, and food, it was a great experience. It is at the top of the Aire Hotel which was conveniently right next door to our condo rental. Every seat has a beautiful view of Isla Verde beach and ocean. The ambiance is very classy. The service was impeccable and no complaints. We ordered 3 small plates and their Robatiyaki (Japanese Skewers). For appetizers, we ordered the house made dumplings which were pork and shrimp. Delicious to the point I wanted to order a second. We also got the Kumo sliders which were wagyu beef. They were good but the beef was way over cooked. We then ordered the King Pegao (salmon tartare over crispy rice). The rice was a bit over cooked as well compared to other crispy rice I have had but the flavor profile was spot on. And lastly, we ordered the Branzino skewer that was flavored and grilled to perfection. The fish and skin melted in your mouth. By far my favorites were the skewer and the dumplings. The mocktails and cocktails were also good!

Sunday brunch at Kumo Rooftop. Great food, better company, amazing view and excellent service. This is my 4th time at Kumo's and I'm sure I'll keep coming back. One of my favs while in Isla Verde. read more

10/10 food was delicious! View & atmosphere was incredible. Service was excellent. If you are in San Juan, MUST GO during sunset hours. There was an amazing DJ playing fun, vibey music. Thank you for the hospitality! read more

I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. Our waiter was so attentive. We had the crispy salmon bites, skewers ( steak, prawns, and branzino), Brussels sprouts, and pork belly. I would skip the pork belly and prawn skewers. The cocktails are 10/10. The restaurant is beautiful and the music was good. I recommend going. read more

Fantastic experience and can't wait to go back! Food and ambiance were both amazing, and our server Sasha was great! Top dishes were the hamachi tartare, miso soup, dumplings, and whole chicken. Hands down the favorite dish of the night was the tartare, it was soooo yummy. The chicken came in at a close second, it had a delicious sticky glaze and was tender and moist! There were only two dishes that we found a bit lack luster compared to everything else--surprisingly the duck even though the fried rice was really good, and the mushroom skewer. Overall had a great time and we'll definitely be back! read more

This is a year late review but still deserves to be posted! Kumo offers small plates but is good for date night or group night out. Rooftop shows the view of isla verde beach & the rest of the city. It was beautiful and such a great experience. We did wish the plates were bigger but the food really made up for it, everything we ordered was delicious. read more

Cool place. Very pretty. On a rooftop. However, sitting by the window, we got drenched and had to move when suddenly it started pouring rain. We wanted to try a bunch of things. Too many things. His favorite: steak tartare on crispy rice (which they did for me gluten-free, thank you so much). My favorite: the mushroom skewers. Really nice. The asparagus wasn't trimmed properly, so was a little hard to eat, with not much flavor. The miso chicken was cooked well and juicy, but I couldn't taste the miso and asked for more sauce. The waiter was really, really awesome. That was the best part of the night. They were really good with my food restrictions (gluten free and dairy free). read more
Kumo has a nice vibe to it, good music, great atmosphere with nice views and wind blowing through your hair. Staff is friendly. I'd just have to say for most items for what it is, just overpriced & not my favorite option for dining or a nice rooftop bar. The Service is pretty lackluster & everyone working is kinda just chillin around, no hate to the staff because they were all nice. But for the price of everything I got & for what I got, I wouldn't come back. read more

This was one of my favorite spot at night for dinner. Every thing was delicious the food amazing, the drinks were great! The place is just a vibe with a beautiful backdrop of the beach. Service was great they were very friendly the staff. It's definitely worth the money in my opinion. read more
FANTASTIC RESTAURANT! It was our last night in Puerto Rico and we were SO HAPPY that we decided to eat here. The rooftop is very romantic and breezy but also fun and has a nightclub vibe. Our server Yael delivered superb service that you would expect from a high end restaurant. He explained the menu very thoroughly and made some excellent suggestions. (He even switched out our napkin coasters when they had too much condensation from underneath the water glass...it's the details that count.) I ended up ordering the Palta & Hamashi Tiradito and my husband ordered the Picanha Wagyu. Both were muy buena! Overall, it was super worth the visit, excellent service and high quality food selection. I highly recommend this restaurant to others. Be sure to make a reservation though as space is limited! read more

My friend and I are staying in the hotel and of course wanted to try KUMO. The whole experience was really lovely - from the service to the delicious food to the fun vibe. The hotel has been making several upgrades which hasn't bothered us much. It has sort of a boho boutique feel with thoughtful touches. You can also order from the KUMO beach menu while on the beach. read more

This was such a cute place, great view during the day, we went at night so couldn't see much. The drinks were very yummy! We got ceviche and tartar for appetizer, we got steak, salmon, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes. We sat at the bar, it was pretty busy, small place, I recommend reservations! Absolutely amazing food, service, vibes, and view! This rooftop restaurant is right on the beach and comes with phenomenal views. We sat at a table right by the edge so we were really able to take the view in. Not to mention they also had a live DJ playing absolute bangers all evening. Be advised it can get windy up there, so keep track of your valuables. I would definitely advise on making a reservation beforehand and requesting a table by the edge to maximize your experience on this rooftop. To start off we ordered the King Peggo and Palta Hamachi Tartare. The King Peggo tasted amazing and my friend said the same about the Tartare. I then ordered the Ceviche - absolutely amazing. Everything in the dish complemented each other so well. We then ordered the Steak Skewers, Shishito Peppers, and Brussel Sprouts. Everything here tasted amazing and would definitely recommend trying and sharing as many foods as you can. I also ordered a cocktail for the rooftop vibes. This is the perfect spot for a date night or dinner post beach lounging (which is what we did)! If / when I go back to Puerto Rico I will 100% be coming back to Kumo Rooftop. read more

So happy to see a restaurant like this finally opened in the area! Kumo is an upscale asian fusion restaurant located on the rooftop of a hotel on the beach with fantastic views. This place isnt just ambiance though, as the food and drinks were also exquisite. The gin cocktail with peppercorn and tonic was very refreshing yet strong (one will do you good ). To start I ordered a salmon crispy rice which was incredibly tasty. The only downside was it had a bit too much sauce (the rice cake was drenched in it). For my entree I really went for it and tried the whole chicken (I was a party of one). It was so delicious! Well cooked, not too dry, the sauce was delicious, and it paired very nicely with the couscous that was made with spices used in indian cuisine + dried fruits. By the way, I make it through half of the chicken, but finished the accompanying couscous Overall, I really enjoyed this meal and am so excited to visit to try more of the menu. The mushroom robata is my next stop! read more
During my trip to San Juan, I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant, to my surprise it wasn't on Yelp. The restaurant on the Yelp app had a different name and has been closed for a while. However I asked the staff to provided me more detail information to suggest the changes to Yelp and I was able to experience how easy is to help local businesses. This rooftop bar is a gem, the bar is conveniently located in Isla Verde. The views of the Beach are breathtaking. The decor is elegant and beautiful. My party and I had cocktails and we had a really wonderful time. The food menu at the bar offers an Asian fusion cuisine, meat, seafood and small dishes but we were craving for some local food. We ended up having only cocktails. We tried a signature cocktail named Mulata, outstanding combination and great presentation. This cocktail had añejo rum, black tea, ginger beer, lime and a very delicate hint of lavender. It was very refreshing and the flavor had the perfect balance. The staff is very friendly and welcoming we really loved it. It has a phenomenal atmosphere!!! read more

My guest and I really enjoyed our dinner. The host, server, and food runner were very attentive and hospitable. I would recommend this place to others and look forward to returning:) the ambiance was beachy and cozy, and the dj set the mood right with nice chill music. We ordered the sennin and emperor cocktails, king pegao and the palta & hamashi tiradito to start, and the branzino skewer and mahi mahi sudao. Each cocktail and dish was fresh, flavorful, and aesthetically presented. read more

Ambience is nice except the part where hotel guests are in the pool next to your table. The food was less than mediocre everything tasted salty and pre made. Just not worth the price at all. read more

Dined here tonight and the service is terrible despite the pleasant ambience I read a lot about Kumo and was excited to drive out of our way to experience it ourselves. First of all, this week there is a big festival in San Juan. Traffic is bad. We were 15 late to our reservation. When we arrived the horrendous person at the front desk said "your reservations been cancelled; you're only allowed a 15 minute grace period and I gave your seats away"... my jaw dropped. unreal. We spoke to the manager Camilla who was an absolute star. She got us seated at a beautiful table and was kind. Our waiter was very nice. We ordered the crispy rice app and wagyu with 3 sides for a main. They told us they don't have wagyu "they can't find it" so they are serving NY Strip and charged us $5 more.. even though it's on their menu.... can't make this up. We received the sushi appetizers which was good (nothing you couldn't get at Catch in NY) but the main course was following right behind it... We thought it was so strange but the food was taking some time so we just went with it.. 5 minutes later the waiter who brought the main course returned and said sorry I had the wrong table.... OMG. We had already started eating one of the sides so he left that... when our waiter came over we asked since they made the error if we could change one of our sides to something else for when our food comes out all together hot. The waiter came back and said if we want something different they'd charge us more because even though the brought a side out by mistake 30 minutes before we had dinner that was expected to be part of our "meal". I'm sorry I've been to a lot of restaurants and this is by far worse service that any fast food restaurant. The whole experience was really just comical embarrassing and not worth the time. Disappointing for something we were hopeful for. We should have known during that first interaction with the host. Downfall from there. We should have left when we had a chance. Also don't get the pumpkin side it was a big halve of cold mush with no flavor. Total letdown after the chefs menu at 1919. read more

Come for the view stay for the food. We ate at a few places in PR while visiting this week and this was the best food we had. The dumplings were great and the steak was perfect. Add to that the nice view and it's a great experience all around. My only advice is it can be a little warm up there during the hottest part of the day, maybe wait til dusk and watch the sunset. read more
Pricey but it's what you expect from a rooftop restaurant. Honestly, everything we ate was really good and I would eat it again. It's on the salty side but so good. Idk if I was just hungry but the dumplings were some of the best I've had. The food, DJ, and ocean view combination is truly amazing. Our servers were attentive and sweet. We stayed at the hotel so this was convenient. Excited to go back once renovations on the hotel are done. read more
