We had originally found Kung Fu Tea in St. Louis several weeks ago, then found several in the Chicago area so had to try our local franchise. We were beyond impressed AGAIN, admittedly we got the same thing we got in STL to see if they were the same since we liked them so much-and they sure were (and possibly even better here??)!! We got the winter melon tea (with tapioca) and the WOW with tapioca-SO, SO good!! You won't be sorry if you like boba, tea, and any mixture of the two (they have the fruit freezes too of course-well try those next)! read more

I don't recommend this location at all. I ordered mango creamsicle because they had it advertised that they have it. I also told him I wanted nata jelly, herb jelly, and mango jelly. He kept repeating boba 3x. I told him multiple times that I wanted mango creamsicle with the toppings mentioned. We waited for soooo long because he was the only person in there. He was the cashier and the person making the orders. He was so distracted from the phone calls and customers coming in that he messed up our drinks. It was really a horrible experience. I've been to Chinatown and Glenview location and never had a problem until I came to this location. Instead of making mango creamsicle he made me mango green tea which wasn't my drink. I told him I wanted the mango creamsicle but then he said they don't have it. If that was the case then take down the advertisement and have more people work there so he can do his work well. I felt bad for him but it's a business establishment at a busy location (Evanston) that they should have adequate staff. So when u go there go at your own risk. Horrible service! I will not come back again. As I read serval online reviews it seems like it's a common theme with this establishment: server gets the order wrong and blames it on the customer! I went in with my husband today, I ordered a taro slush through the rude Asian guy with blond geisha hair style. The girl in the back proceed to make the drink but it turned out to be a taro milk tea. I told the girl I ordered a slush not a milk tea, she was really nice and was trying to make my correct order but the guy in the front told her to stop making it because I ordered it wrong and I should wait longer(he said this in Chinese) without realizing I understand what he's saying! So I corrected him and said I didn't not make the mistake it's him that typed in the order wrong. He in shock tried to pathetically defend himself by saying they have to throw out the wrong order and I should of checked my receipt. I told him how is that my problem when he put in the wrong order himself. We were at a standstill, and I didn't want to waste more of my precious time so I left with the wrong order. I worked for a bubble tea shop when I was in university, sure, mistakes can be made, we are all human. It's how you deal with the situation which will either help the business retain future customers or lose them. In this case they lost me. Officially the best (and cheapest) bubble tea in Evanston - hurray! I was so excited for this place to finally open, and now it has and I've gone twice in the last week. I had the mango smoothie, and I only had it with half sugar, but it was still incredibly sweet - definitely getting even less sugar next time. And I'll be back for the passion fruit smoothie - I love passion fruit and I can never get enough of that. But looks can be deceiving. 2) what on earth is with the $8 min credit card policy. LOOK, you cant have the average price on your menu be $5 and reasonably ask for an $8 minimum. I've been trying to put off updating my review for a while now in hope that the quality decrease was just a temporary thing, but it's time for me to stop being in denial. As I sit here sipping on my flavorless golden oolong milk tea, I am filled with disappointment. What I once considered the best boba I've ever tasted and what once gave me such joy is now only a letdown. First of all, the service sucks if it's not students working. There's this one guy who, every time I walk up to the register, literally turns his back and walks away. And there's this other guy (or maybe it's the same guy...idk, I can't tell) who's on his phone all the time and doesn't even look up when customers go up to the register. This is not just a once or twice kind of thing. I've experienced this multiple times when I go to KFT, and I go a lot. Second, these people (not the students) don't know how to make boba. Usually the boba is super sweet and I have to ask for less sugar. But sometimes I go and just want the full sugar rush. But when I get my drink, it ends up being completely flavorless. And it's happened several times now. So then I just walk away sad because 1) I spent money and 2) my boba tastes disgusting. I prefer this location over the Argyle location because of three reasons: late night hours, easy parking, and option to pay with credit cards. Granted you'll be hanging out with a college crowd so it gets crowded during the late night hours, but my husband and I like it nonetheless. FYI there is a minimum amount required to use credit. I usually order a milk green tea with boba and half-sugar. The boba is good here like many other KF Tea locations -- soft and chewy. On our last visit we tried out their spicy popcorn chicken, and it wasn't too bad at all! We'll probably try their basil popcorn chicken next time. I am giving them 5 stars because after returning a few times, their bubble tea hot or cold are the best in the area and gave stellar customer service. The establishment is clean and modern. Consistent, good customer service is rare in many Asian establishment so it is a refreshing experience. I go back and try different kind of tea with tapioca, hot and cold, and with less sugar (30%). So imagine how excited I was to find out that Kung Fu Tea finally opened over Labor Day weekend! So far, I've had the oolong milk tea with tapioca. The tapioca was smooth with a bit of chew, and the milk tea was complex--a little bit sweet and a lot of smooth. Just the way I like it. The cups have sealed tops, so they're portable, and you don't have to worry about accidental spills. Here, you can customize the: (a) levels of ice, milk, and sugar levels (none, half, full) (b) temperature (cold, warm, hot) (c) additions (tapioca, jelly) The space has some 2-person tables and a couch area but could get crowded during rush hour, so I'd get your orders to go then. Basically, you order and pay at the front, wait ~5 minutes, and then pick up your order at the back counter. Credit card payment minimum is $8. Most drinks run $4-5. Now the first time I came here, my boyfriend and I were helped by a very friendly person that made us excited to come back. They have the most delicious bubble tea, so I was excited to bring friends who never had it before. We arrived at 9pm on a SATURDAY. They close at 11pm. A man was standing in the middle of the store with his jacket on and seemed like he was ready to head out. When he saw us, he looked completely livid and went back to take our order. Two of my party never had bubble tea before, so I was explaining to them which kung-fu tea flavors are really good. The worker actually interjects us and says "Are you going to order, or what?" loudly. I wasn't sure why he was so angry because they had another hour until closing time, but he gave us the most rude over the counter service I've ever had. When our drinks were done he said "Hey, come take your drinks." Someone else in my party also ordered food, so that made him more irritated... I left with a completely bad taste in my mouth and his rude service was all everyone would talk about in the car. There was no reason for him to treat us so rudely. It was also embarrassing because I hyped the place up for them. I noticed too that they often close their doors 1-2 hours before the 10pm/11pm time. After this experience I'm hesitant to ever return. So far I've tried the passionfruit green tea with boba, golden oolong milk tea with nata jelly, and their regular milk tea with boba. Honestly all the drinks were really good - I really love the sweetness and perfect amount of chewiness the bubbles have, and the option for less ice/less sugar/whatever is really great because you can customize your drink to your taste. I love their tea! So far I've had their milk green tea, passion fruit tea, pineapple tea, and strawberry green tea. All of them have been great, and I'd recommend them all to someone who was going to go here. My only problem with this place is that multiple times that I've gone here they've run out of pearls. I've come at different times and they've been out, so they should make sure they're always stocked. There's also an $8 minimum charge to use the credit card. They recently redid the seating and it looks nice, but it's kind of uncomfortable. I miss their couches. It's nice to have more space though, and it's perfect for playing Jenga! read more

Yes sure this is easily the only legitimate boba place within walking distance for Northwestern students. Until someone opens another boba place in Evanston, they've effectively guaranteed my regular business for the remainder of my undergraduate career--not that I'm happy about it. They could definitely use some competition because their quality fluctuates and their food supplies are way more unpredictable than is appropriate for a "food establishment". Being from southern California, I'm used to having several boba places to choose from, decent consistency, and WAY cheaper prices. KFT's tapioca balls usually have a pleasantly sweet and chewy texture. Most days this will be the case, but I've been subject to too tough or too watery bubbles multiple times. You can also customize your sugar and ice levels to your liking, but I've learned that the different levels aren't uniform among the employees. I know now to cater my sugar level requests to the employee making my drink. My regular drinks are green milk tea or passionfruit slush with boba, and I would definitely recommend both! Overall though, I think they could work on their consistency across the board. In the past year, they've also introduced a food menu, which has been both good and bad. The food is decent and satisfyingly greasy, but almost guaranteed they don't have their full menu when you stop in. "Do you have food today?" is not a question I should have to ask at a place that is supposed to serve food. Unfortunately, I don't get the answer you would expect a lot of the time. As for atmosphere, it can get pretty crowded in there on the weekends or just certain weekday evenings, but if there are open seats you can grab a board game and hang out for a while, or study during the afternoon. There is free Wi-Fi! Also couldn't finish this review without mentioning the $8 minimum for credit cards. More like a 3.5. I really enjoy getting boba here as they are nice and firm, and the milk teas have wonderful flavor while offering sugar/ice customization. I haven't tried their food eat but fully intend to sample some onigiri sometime. On the downside, the service here is not always the best. Sometimes servers seem put out by fulfilling orders, and it is not uncommon for your order to not be done correctly. It often seems like the music is so loud it is difficult to hear - maybe related to the frequency of filling orders incorrectly? On a related note, and this really makes me sound like a total fogey, but sometimes the music is a bit mature and is stuff I'd rather not have my 4-year-old question me (or her teacher) about later as she is wont to do. I wouldn't think I'd need to think about whether I should bring my boba-loving kiddo into a tea shop, but have found myself wondering at times. My friends and I were checking out Northwestern neighborhood and were so jealous that these kids get to be walking distance to Kung Fu Tea while we have to drive to Chinatown for the closest Kung Fu. Unlike the one in Chinatown, this location is a bit smaller but they still deliver the same quality boba. Also, still cash only but you can pay with credit card if you spend more than $8-10. I believe this isn't the case at the other location. My favorite drink to get is the Kung Fu milk tea or the green tea w/ bubbles. One thing I like about Kung Fu is you can specialize your order with more/less/no ice/sugar..etc. This place is a bit cramped so I would suggest pick up and go but they do have a few tables and chairs to sit. read more

My obsession is a little strange because only once has my drink been a slam dunk, but I seriously dream of the chewy, sweet boba and will go out of my way to pull out cash to get some bubble tea. Normally, I'm pretty boring and always get the basic bubble milk tea, but I've decided to expand my horizons (within the milk tea family of course, not trying to get too crazy) and here are a few things I've learned on my quest for the perfect drink: - Do not get full sugar unless you're crusin' for a cavity. "No sugar" is a bit bland, but "little sugar" is just right - Ask for "less ice" if you want more room for your tea and an easier time slurping out the bubbles at the end - The milk they used is powdered, so don't let your drink sit too long or it'll start thickening and separating, which is a bit gross So far I've tried the golden oolong milk tea, bubble milk tea, milk green tea, and coconut milk tea and I think the oolong one was by far the tastiest. kung fu tea and i have a long relationship, dating back to its early days when there were only a couple locations in new york city. now that i'm in evanston, it's basically the one place that caters to my milk tea cravings. like most standard milk tea places now, kung fu allows you to adjust the level of ice and sugar. my go-to has always been no sugar, no ice - because even at 0% sugar it's still pretty sweet. the boba is pretty good as an add-on, but personally my favorite is grass jelly because it's still sweet on its own but i can pretend to be healthy when i eat it. yup, basically tricking myself into believing i'm drinking something healthy every time i walk in here. rather than the 300-400 calories i'm probably actually consuming every time. maybe even more?! anyways, just don't think about it. drink your milk tea and be happy :) read more

XiaoRanHe, who is a worker of Kungfu tea App, has been threatening to sue me with lawsuit via email since I have reported to the Kungfu App about me got overcharged for tips. Three months later, XiaoRanHe emailed me back asking me for the receipt to prove and saying I was the liar. I emailed back to clarify that I had difficult times to understand her English. So, I just wanted her/him to know that I didn't mean to ask for money back. I wish "that" cashier will have better customer services for other customers. However, XiaoRanHe has threatened to sue me. XiaoRanHe keeps sending me some random pictures from Kathryn's (also a customer) report, and false lies about me writing a 1-star review on Yelp when it was someone else. I feel very uncomfortable when it was she/he who was slandering me. Hi ladies and gentlemen! Would you support a business like that? They can't even handle reviews and improve their faulty services. I have attached some pictures of her emails trying to threaten me and the receipt that proves I got charged for tips without my permission. Their grapefruit green tea was bland for my taste, but they have the best milk tea. The store is located across from Northwestern so there were a lot of students when we were there. I do appreciate the option to adjust my sugar level (no sugar for me!) and even during the summertime, I don't like mine ice cold so I can also adjust the ice level (no ice here). Also note that you pay cash only unless it's over $8 and then, you can swipe. It's a nice option besides Joy Yees here in Evanston.
