This place is quiet and laid back. No music playing and never packed the times I've come. Quick and friendly service. I have only come during lunch hour. The food is solid and good. Huge menu with a lot to choose from - I usually go for the bento boxes. The tempura isn't greasy but it's crunchy. Gyozas are good and fresh. The sushi I've tried has been tasty too. There's another side to the restaurant that I believe is the teppanyaki side. Haven't experienced it yet since I've only come for lunch. Boyfriend and I were visiting from Long Beach for Valentines Weekend Getaway 2025. We were craving sushi and found KiniSama. Easy to find and upon arrival, plenty of parking. Once we walked in we noticed it was pretty empty for a Saturday afternoon, but nonetheless we weren't bothered or worried. We feel our experience will be all the more better with just us 2 in the restaurant. Either way, we're good, the food will speak for itself. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and glad we did! This review is based on an Uber order experience. Terrible follow through from what is listed on the app and what the client is actually given. Ordered the bento boxes it's advertised to come with chicken, rice, tempura veggies, a California roll, and miso soup. Unfortunately, only received the first three items listed. Hidden gem in Clovis, small and family owned and they care about the quality of their food and service. My kids live the hamachi fried rice and I love the spicy baked mussels. We ate here on night before going to an event at savemart center. But clearly you can see they were understaffed but they did the best they could to accommodate and take care of their guests. I came here for son's birthday on Sunday. I ordered from the dinner menu and asked for 2 of the filet with fried rice and veggies. I was told that they were out of filet. I had to settle for the regular steak. Food came out too salty with too much black pepper. You can literally see a bunch of black pepper on the food. Wontons were perfectly crispy. I do wish they took a yardhouse approach to this and spread them out on a long plate so some chips weren't plain and other weren't overly saucy! Side salad: this was bomb as always, but the pricing is a bit steep for the bowl size you get. I do wish it was a little bigger. It was $5 for the small bowls you get from teppanyaki. Hot mama: this was soo good! Perfect sized roll with a ton of flavor. I'm surprised I've never tried their sushi sooner! Chicken & Shrimp teppan meal: still tasted as good as before and their hot and spicy is on point! Green tea shooter: it wasn't horrible but wasn't great either. This has been my least favorite green tea shooter from any bar/restaurant so far. Melon shooter: not sure if that's the full name but this was just bad. So disappointed with the manager (I believe). Ordered four items. There was one item I specifically made a special request on and that was the item they messed up. While I understand there will always be human mistakes, but this manager made excuses. Initially, when I called back to let the restaurant know that there was mayonnaise in my salmon sandwich, the waitress went back and asked the chef, then came back and said that no one from the kitchen had put sauce in my sandwich. I told her I would be happy to text them a picture of the sandwich with the receipt next to it. Then she had me wait, and this lady came on. I shared what happened. Instead of apologizing, she went on saying that there are different types of sauces that are in this sandwich. I told her I looked at their online menu and the description says mayo only. If it's a marinating thing for the salmon, that's different. She went on to check my receipt from her end and it says no sauce, but she said, it didnt say no mayo. Well, I can't help you with that. It's your system. I specifically asked for no mayo because I can't eat mayo. If this lady was a manager, then she needs to learn not to harass the customer. At the end, she gave me two options. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I haven't had this bad of service in years. My party and I waited over an hour for our sushi, and the waiter hardly checked on us or refilled our waters. Despite the long wait, he did not update us on our food; we had to call him over to ask. When we finally got our sushi, the rolls were 20% smaller than they typically are. The presentation was also sad. My rolls were falling apart, rice wasn't on part of the rolls, and there was very little filling. When we let the waiter know, he seemed apologetic but also annoyed. We could hear other guests complaining to the waiter, so we know we weren't alone in our bad experience. It is so sad to see Kunisama has gone downhill like this! The waitress we had was nice enough but she forgot two rolls and then not even saying, hey I am so sorry I forgot I'll get it now , she acted like it was someone else's fault. My oldest got the spider roll , which the server forgot to put in and we all had food when my oldest had nothing . We ended up having to flag another waiter down after awhile just to check if the order had even been made. Timing and how things were brought out just didn't flow right, if you are paying attention to your table, then if you know they have younger kids wait to serve everyone or them first maybe. I also totally understand prices are changing, especially for fresh fish , so yeah I think only two items we got actually were the menu price . They are on the higher end of moderate. My hubby got the Panko tofu $12 comes with a sauce that you can chose, white rice, miso, and a salad. He said everything was good . My middle got the bento box which we got the adult one cause they don't have a kid size one, which was ok. She didn't like the options for the veggie tempura and was bummed. She also wasn't a fan of the dressing on the salad or that it had mandarin oranges on it . We also got a cucumber roll and I don't think that this tiny roll (which theirs only had 6 pieces) should be more than $5,maybe $5.50 but they charged $8 . The Miso was edible but not my favorite , what got me was not even half the bowl was filled , I paid separately for it (meaning it didn't come with a meal and for $4 it's not nice to put a splash in a cup. "The chicken nuggets and fries from the sushi restaurant weren't good" or "the delivery order which I ate an hour later was cold and soggy". Super thin pieces of fish on the rolls and old stale hard rice used to make sushi. Not to mention, they don't follow order notes/requests. They'll take your order/money & tell you they'll omit the mayo and then completly ignore the order notes. So if you have an egg allergy, beware. Also, they keep the place severely understaffed. We've been here plenty of times before the pandemic and also before taking out of the teppan yaki tables. Some may not like the new setup but I happen to like that the teppan yaki tables aren't there anymore--less noise, smoke and probably makes the place a tad cleaner. I've never had a bad meal or roll here but I will say the only thing was that the fried rice was a bit too fried and had a very crunchy texture. Nonetheless, any roll is good, but I'd opt in for a teppan plate and have a drink. I like this place particularly because they're bar is better than most of the teppan yaki places in Fresno.
