His philosophy is much like my own- treat patients with care and do no harm. He is true to that in every respect. He is a highly skilled practitioner and his hygienists have that gentle touch that I think everyone prefers. His office is very modern and he employs the latest in dental technology. We have discussed many dental topics and it is obvious to me that he stays on top of the latest research and techniques. His "chairside" manner is always professional, calm, and reassuring. This is the most technologically advanced dental practice I've been to. They have several tools/instruments I've never seen, which made the whole experience very pleasant. Dr. Grace is awesome, she explained basic oral and nasal anatomy then explained dental elements, she further explained dental hygiene and other issues, then spent (3x time) discussing my personal dental nuances. Dr. Mackie is a decent dentist, it's his office staff that are not good. After treating with Dr. Mackie since 2018 using Cigna Advantage the office did not notify me that they dropped out of network on 11/30/21. After asking office to pre-cert crown and filling they never contacted me with price. I am guessing they realized I was out of network (OON), but never took the courtesy to contact me. When I returned for 6/9/22 office visit nothing was mentioned about being OON. I was presented with 6/9/22 bill on 12/1/22 visit. Discussions with my insurance company revealed the OON status change date. Also, dental hygienist will book subsequent 6 month visit inside 180 days creating insurance denial for time factor. I place blame on office manager Delores who reminds me of Sergeant Schultz "I know nothing" approach. If you book with this office check to see if they have dropped your insurance from their network before attending visit. Otherwise you may find yourself in this predicament. Too bad there is no "0" star rating. He and his office staff are horrible! I am on a tight budget and have dental insurance. I called the office prior to making the appointment to find out if they took my insurance I told the office staff that i did not want to pay for anything not covered by my insurance so they agreed to call my insurance carrier. They did so and confirmed there was coverage. Based on this information, I made an appointment for a regular teeth cleaning. On the day of my appointment, I had a subsequent discussion about coverage and payments with the office staff. At that time she mentioned I may have a MINIMAL RESIDUAL charge. I was not sure what that meant so I asked her to clarify and made it clear I did not want to pay for additional services (fluoride, etc.) if they are not covered by my insurance. During her explanation, she NEVER mentioned that they were out of network. Had she mentioned that at any time, I would have canceled my appointment knowing that there would be charges in excess of what my insurance covered. Then I saw the Dr. He and I also had a discussion regarding coverage. I mentioned that another dentist in the area had required payment in full up front (rather than billing insurance). I had paid them only to find out they had overcharged for services and they ended up sending me a refund check. Clearly all involved were aware of my concerns before the cleaning and exam was started. No one mentioned they were not in Network. The visit went fine. No complaints there. But then I got the bill. I was charged for services I did not request, did not agree to and were not covered by my insurance. (Remember - they called to find out what my coverage was!) All I wanted was a teeth cleaning. I was also charged Out of Network fees. I called the office to dispute and got nowhere. They refuse to acknowledge any error on their part nor did they try to meet me half-way on the charges. They did however, send a very condescending letter to me saying that insurance benefits are confusing. Yes - they are, which is why I asked so many questions before setting up an appointment. No resolution on this one yet. But beware - I have found out the only In Network insurance they take is Aetna. All others are Out of Network! read more

I had a lot of dental work done here and at the end experienced some problems with a bridge. I just broke in two. Drove from Dallas to Boerne to have Dr. Mackie repair it. ( this was just after I paid him to make it) He just stuck some glue in it and charged me $650.00 I was shocked but because of time restraints and I had to deal with the girl at the reception fdesk I paid the bill and felt like I was a fool to have not asked for the cost in advance. The young lady told me she only charged what Dr Mackie told her. Before I had returned home to Dallas ( four hours) the thing broke again. I went to a dentist locally who had not just charged me $25,000. to make then $650.00 to repair his sloppy work, and got the thing repaired properly and was charged $260.00 If you use this guy I think you need to know in advance what is planning to charge and how he is planning to do the work, because if not you can plan on being taken advantage of and cheated.
