Kurt's has been one of our main go-to places in the area for a while, and with very good reason: Excellent food and service every single time, and all for much better prices than you might expect from a steakhouse. First and foremost, I need to mention the lobster bisque. It's one of my favorite things to order anywhere it's available, so I've tried plenty of different versions of lobster bisque. That being said, I can tell you with certainty that Kurt's is EASILY the best I've ever had anywhere. I could probably drink it by the gallon if I had a mind to. They also have great steaks (My favorite here is the filet) which are always cooked exactly as ordered, but I actually don't often get steak here. I almost always get my very favorite dish, the veal marsala. It's really that good. The meat is always cooked perfectly - tender and delicious, with an outstanding marsala sauce and plenty of mushrooms. Another great option is the chicken vesuvio. Again, it's always tender and perfectly cooked, and the sauce is loaded with lemon, white wine and garlic flavor. Additionally, the entrees come with a choice of potato, of which I highly, HIGHLY recommend you try the parmesan au gratin potatoes. Bottom line: Head to Kurt's Steakhouse, try the lobster bisque and the veal or a steak. You won't be disappointed. read more

The ribeye steak we asked for medium charred. After a great French onion soup and garden salad the steaks came. ..... They were just like we ordered. Some chefs will just put some grill stripes in when you ask for a charred steak. They serve a great steak here so we decided to give it another try. We haven't been there for years and everything looks much the same. We ordered oysters Rockefeller. It did not disappoint we ordered two glasses of Pino Noir that paired nicely. Several wines were offered by the glass. For dinner we both chose petit filet with garlic mashed and salad. The steaks were fantastic. Potatoes not so much as they were defiantly instant. Wish you could substitute a steamed vegetable instead of potato. I'm not paying 8$ for asparagus. The salads were fantastic. I ordered a brandy Alexander for desert and was made very nicely, I could actually taste the brandy! Waitress was quite busy in the dining room we were in and did not receive any help. It would have been nice as was hard to order a second drink or get condiments. I assume because of COVID. Kurt's Steakhouse is the steakhouse of Delafield, enough said. Old school, supper-club charm, with photos of Dean Martin and Marilyn Monroe on the walls. First of all, let me begin by saying that I have been dragged there many times by my parents. Personally, I'm a fan of their French Onion Soup as an appetizer, and usually have the Petit Filet for an entrée. Food is inconsistent. The filet has been charred/overdone for my liking (medium-rare) two or three times. Kurts is a good place for the older crowd. I would not go there on my own (i.e., on a date), but I can see how middle aged adults enjoy it. read more

We love coming to Kurt's because of the quality of the food. And I am glad they have stayed open during the Covid 19 situation. However, I had a situation that was really unacceptable. Last Friday we called in an order at 5 pm for their fish fry. I figured it would be around an hour wait. Sure enough, it was a 90 minute wait which was fine. I drove over and parked in their lot at 6:28pm. I could see many people in their vehicles waiting for their food orders. Also, there were many people on their patio having cocktails, which I found surprising given the situation. I called to let them know that I was parked and the woman asked what type of car I had and I gave her the information, along with where I was parked, which was next to the handicapped signs. Eventually all the other vehicles had left, along with most people on the patio. Twenty five minutes had passed and finally I called again to tell them that I had been waiting for nearly a half hour, way past my carry out time. The woman responded with, "Oh she couldn't find you." I nearly lost it. Not only did I give the make and model of my car, twice, I told them exactly where I was parked. So of course my food had been sitting there for 30 minutes. Plus, they had my number, why not call me??? So I see someone come out and she immediately walks over to another car, and of course it's the wrong one. She turns and is looking for me...and I'm literally ten feet away, next to the handicapped sign, the same sign I told them originally. During this time of this pandemic, I'm trying to be very patient, but this was really ridiculous. I would fire people for something like this if it were my business. There is no excuse for that and they very easily could have called me. I'm really not sure how I was so difficult to find when my car was right in front of them. However, it is not just the steak with this place, the deep fried rolls, the fresh salad, and sides are always a hit. I got there early, so I thought some kalamari would we good to chew on B4 new girl arrived. This is a plate for two! Munching on this plate was more than I was looking for. When was the last time you heard that? I don't seem to have the appetite I once did, or was it beacuace I was I was dessicating myself overtime in the whirlpool? Internists, speak up! I've been coming to Kurt's with my family since I was just a kid and it's always been a great place for steak. Whenever I think of a classic American steakhouse, Kurt's comes to mind. I always order a medium filet and it's cooked perfectly. Their steaks come with a free salad and garlic mashed potatoes. Somehow their garlic mashed potatoes are always delicious: rich and flavorful without too much garlic. The salads are fresh and even their dressings are homemade. Don't miss their lobster bisque which is the best I've come across. Prices are high, but what you'd expect for a fancy steakhouse. I agree with some of the other reviews that the service leaves much to be desired. The bar staff is great, but waiters and waitresses seem not to be attentive. The hostesses, who often roll their eyes at children and the handicapped, can be particularly rude. Still a decent restaurant. read more

I was out with my Daughter for a Mother/Daughter nigh out. Did some shopping n got hungry. So my Daughter looked up local restaurants on her iphone apt. Kurt's Steak House was the closest one listed. We thought why not n stop in for dinner, we did not have a reservation. But we were seated right away. The food was amazing!!! My husband and I were recommended to enjoy our date night here and enjoy it, WE DID! We stopped at the bar first for a couple old fashioneds - delicious and soul-warming; absolutely hit the SPOT. We sat in the room off to the right of the entrance and really enjoyed the atmosphere! Staff was polite and helpful. When it came time to order dinner, we weren't too surprised at the limited menu seeing we have encountered this quite a bit with Covid. We were informed that this menu is temporary and the full menu would be returning in the near future. I ordered the chicken with marsala and enjoyed every bite. The rich marsala wine sauce was delectable - highly recommended!! My husband ordered the ribeye which was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly medium rare (as requested), served with the most delicious thin, crispy onion rings (thankful I had room to keep eating them)! After reading recent reviews of Kurts, i guess our experience was much like the other reviews. Very limited menu, too high priced for what they give you, no side other than a potato. What determined it for me as far as going back or not was the "cottage fries". I'm sure past patrons remember going to Kurts and having a drink at the bar where free homemade potato chips were so good to munch on while waiting for a table. Unfortunately, this is now one of their potato sides for their "high end" steak dinner. Potato chips as your choice of potato for a small tenderloin priced at $55? My husband and I have been to Kurts Steak house several times and have always highly recommend it. Sadly, last evening fell short. The waitress was not on top of her game and my steak was tough and lacked the usual flavor, and the garlic mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from a box. Have visited on business 3 times and each time Excellent steaks and one of the best French Onion soups around. And great staff. Terrible experience! I hadn't been to Kurt's in years and went recently. I didn't have a reservation and was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour wait, which I expected. We were lucky to find a seat at the bar thankfully because it turned into a 2+ hour wait only to get seated by the bathrooms and served the smallest underwhelming, overpriced steak ever! I'm a local and I won't go back here, I'd rather head to Palmers which has never let me down. read more

So so sad. My husband took me to Kurt's again for my birthday last night. We were just there for our anniversary in early March and the change from March was like night and day. First, the usual long wait at the bar before our table was ready. We actually like that, as we can each have a drink while waiting. But they were packed last night which does not help explain what happened next. We get to our table. I noticed no table coverings (maybe I was wrong?) Waitress came over (she recognized us as we are regulars) and immediately commented on the menu which had been paired down to 2 steak entrees (my usual petite filet was gone, :( ...) and she said it was due to lack of employees to work there, a supply chain issue, etc., and was only temporary. Our usual calamari was no longer on the "Starters" menu (there were only 4 choices there). Only 3 rolls with dinner (so not 4 ... we had to split the 3rd one). I'm just pointing out differences since March, NOT since the Pandemic began. Next, their au gratin potatoes (our favorite) were not on the menu (only some instant garlic like potatoes, which I had). I did not want to even order a steak as their filet was now $55?????? Also no longer was a side salad an option; if you wanted a salad you had to pay an additional $7 or $8. My wine was the same as ever, very good, but I guess it's hard to go wrong on wine, and their liquor prices have always been reasonable. My husband felt so bad for me he told me he would take me out again on Tuesday (my actual birthday) to a different one of our favorite restaurants. I haven't been to Kurt's in a few years, but my husband proposed to me there and feeling nostalgic, we chose to go for Valentine's Day. I had never been disappointed eating there before. The rolls, stuffed mushrooms, salad and soup were all delicious, but our steaks left a lot to be desired. We both ordered our steaks medium - mine was served medium well and was a bit tough. My husbands was served medium rare. Also, like I said, it had been a few years (maybe 8ish), but the price for the petite filet which I've always ordered more than doubled. Been a long time fan of Kurts, until our most recent visit. Upon walking in we noticed the remodel, which was fine but along with it appears to be much smaller portions and not that grear of a steak. Our steaks were ordered medium rare, hers came out well done mine came out medium. Also they did away with baked potato as an option, so we went with the garlic mashed, which came out as a golf ball sized portion that tasted like instant boxed spuds. My $5 side of sautéed mushrooms was a small creamer container with about 6 small mushrooms. We have been coming for years and were REALLY disappointed with the changes and what was a really mediocre steak. When we moved into the neighborhood I asked my new neighbor "Where's the best place for steaks?" and she said "You have to go to Kurt's". We've never been to Kurt's so we thought we would give it a try. Kurt's is on the southside of the street just outside of the little town of Delafield. When you first see Kurt's it reminds you of a supper club that you might see in upper Wisconsin somewhere back in the early 60's - and the interior carries that charm all the way through. My favorite room is the pine room directly to the south when you walk in. Photos of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and the like hang on the wall while music from that era softly plays over the speakers. The cocktails are generous, the service prompt & friendly. The bus boys are generally high school kids with white shirts, black pants and adds to the friendly charm. For starters I'm a big fan of the French Onion Soup which is unbelievably rich and tasty - so much so my eyes always water with delight. For the main meal I usually order the NY Strip and it's always tender, tasty and no shortage of it. I would also recommend ordering the Peppercorn sauce to compliment the steak (I would drink this stuff out of glass if my wife would let me). I should mention they have they dinner rolls that are quickly deep fried to give them a light crust and taste - don't forget to try these. Kurt's is like stepping back in time - the ambiance is retro without being overdone, the drinks are what you would expect from a supper club and the food is always right on the money in taste, portions and quality.
