My son and I met up here with one of his good friends and her 2 kids. She is Filipina and guided us through the food. We let her order for us since we are not too familiar with Filipino cuisine and were down for anything! Of course, we know the standard dishes like adobo, lumpia, and pan cit, but this was a whole new world for us. We walked in on the 12th of this month at 4:30pm and were greeted by Roxanne behind the counter. The way this place works is that you can see the hot food in the case as if it were a cafeteria and you tell the employee which ones you want. There are many types of dishes to choose, ranging from seafood to stews, lumpia, rice/garlic rice, and street food style skewers. We tried a little bit of everything! For drinks we tried the Melon drink. They make it in-house and it was FANTASTIC! SO refreshing and really hits the spot on a hot day. We also shared the Calamansi Lemonade (not made in-house) and it was a bit too tangy for my palate. I preferred the Melon drink. For our food, I don't even know where to start. We had a vast variety of items on the table, including: Lumpia, Fried Fish, Garlic Rice, Chicken Adobo, veggie small egg rolls, Sinigang, Pork Dinuguan, Bitter Melon, and Longanisa Sausage. For the street food skewers, we tried a bunch of different ones including Fish Cake, Lobster, Pig Ears, and even Chicken Intestine. This was definitely an adventurous experience and we enjoyed it. Some items more than others, but overall it was a good experience. Some of the food was hot and some of it was just lukewarm. One thing that really disappointed me was that they didn't sell any pan cit. It's my favorite Filipino food and I love noodles in general. I was really looking forward to eating some, but oh well. For dessert, we tried their Buko Pandan drink along with their Halo Halo. They were very delicious and refreshing! Also well balanced and not overwhelmingly sweet. The restaurant is super clean and decently sized. For some reason, the music is louder than usual. They were playing some nice '80s jams when we got there, then they switched to some live Filipino bands, then a DJ Megamix of 2010s pop hits. We could hardly hear our thoughts. That's how loud the music was. So actually, they share this space between two different restaurants. On one end you have Kusina ni Kuya but they are also partnered with the Seafood Boil restaurant next door. They both share the dining area. They have one restroom for men and one for women. Both were clean, but the trash in the women's restroom needed to be emptied. They also offer catering. Parking lot is shared with other businesses. We had a great time catching up with each other and if you're looking for some authentic Filipino food in Northridge, you should check this place out! read more

I ate at Kusina Ni Kuya in Northridge a few weeks ago and figured it was time to share my experience. I had just finished a short hike at Wilbur Tampa Park Trailhead and had built up a solid appetite. I noticed this place on the drive up and made a mental note to try it--and post-hike felt like the perfect time. Kusina Ni Kuya is located right next to Cajun Ni Kuya, and they share the same dining area. The Kusina Ni Kuya side is more of a traditional Filipino *turo-turo* (point-point) setup, where you choose your dishes cafeteria-style. I went with the **beef sinigang**. I was initially planning to order two entrees, but after seeing the generous portion they served, I decided one was plenty. While eating, I noticed trays of Cajun-style seafood boils coming out to nearby tables--interesting to see, even if it's not really my thing. As for the food, the sinigang delivered. The broth had a nice, balanced tang--sour but not overpowering--and it really hit the spot after the hike. Simple, comforting, and satisfying. **Why 4 stars?** Very solid food and portions, but not quite a standout experience that pushes it into that must-go, 5-star category. **Overall:** A reliable spot for Filipino comfort food--especially if you're coming down from a hike and want something warm and filling. read more

If you are looking for a filipino food in the valley, kusina ni kuya is the place to go. Very authentic filipino food and very delicious and flavorful. We always come here sometimes for breakfast or lunch. And especially this is our go to place for catering when we have a party at home. You can't go wrong with Kuya's cooking, everything in their menu is a must try especially the dinuguan, kare kare and sisig. Compared to other places their food wont disappoint you. Be sure to book days before any event. They also have cajun seafood and their sauce is even better than bioling crab and other cajun places. The staff here ar every nice. We ordered for a fiesta at the park yesterday, sep 21,2025 and asked that food be delivered at 10 am since this is a free event and food should be served by around 11am, after the mass. The food was delivered at 1130 am, when people were all lined up waiting for the food at 11am. Our food order waa $1000 plus $90 delivery fee at lincoln park in la. Unacceptable to deliver food at 1130 when agreed time was 10 am. We keep on calling at 1030 and they keep on saying there is traffic and that in 15 mins. Even with traffic, they should have been on their way by 9am and would have been at the event by 10 am and even by 11am at the latest (2 hrs). This is not a house event where guests can wait. The driver was also very rude, that he's at the street and we should just get the food. I asked where since this is a park and he cant even tell me his location. He even had the nerve to tell me, "you wont be getting your food, i wont even deliver and just talk to his manager" and then hanged up the phone on me. Last year, we also ordered the same amount of food and there was no issue. We wont be ordering anymore from this place. read more

First of all, thank you for accommodating our order. The total was $285, and it was picked up by my husband along with his visiting friends from the Philippines. This incident happened May 25, 2025.. When it was time to pay, my husband called me and said, "Can you try sending Zelle to this number? My Zelle is taking time to send a code." He was trying to send the payment to a new recipient, and Zelle required a verification code for security purposes. Unfortunately, the code was delayed, likely due to a poor internet connection. He stepped outside to get a better signal while his friends remained inside the store. While he was outside, a lady wearing a black top, glasses, and with short hair--I'm not sure if she was staff or the owner--told my husband's friends that we needed to make sure we were paying, or she would call the police. This was said in a way that felt abrupt and accusatory, despite the fact that the situation was clearly a technical delay and we were actively trying to resolve it. This kind of approach was upsetting and felt very unnecessary. We are all Filipinos, and we expected to be treated with a sense of respect and understanding--especially within our own community. If the woman is one of the owners, it's even more disappointing, as this interaction did not reflect the hospitality or professionalism expected from a business. It's important to note that what we experienced was not good customer service. A little patience and communication would have made a big difference. read more

The restaurant's nomenclature translated from Tagalog (Philippines' national language) to English is "older brother's kitchen". I had a party for 16 people and decided to have it catered from this place sight unseen for it was highly recommended. It met our expectations and will definitely recommend to others. My review is specific to catering (ordering and food) for I had my hubby do the pick up and he said it went smoothly. Here is what I ordered: 1. Pancit Miki/Bihon (Large noodle dish) with side of lemons - delicious Note: Ordered medium trays for all dishes below 2. Pork Sisig (minced fried pork with onions and vinegar or lemon) - right amount of sourness and other seasoning 3. Chicken Afritada (Chicken stew) - good 4. Lumpiang Hubad (Filipino vegetable dish) - good 5. Sweet and Sour Fish - everybody liked this dish and came with very fresh veggies with sauce on side (great idea instead of coming with sauce which tend to soften breaded fish) The above was supplemented with a huge pot of Bo Kho (Vietnamese beef stew) and cha gio (egg rolls) courtesy of the all time best Vietnamese chef I know - my mother in law! I say that because even after we ate for lunch and dinner and 3 families took most of the dishes home for meals the next day, there was still a lot left :/. I am not complaining but note to self ...and others, they give generous servings so in retrospect, either I did not have to supplement or order two less dishes. I can tell they used fresh ingredients for veggies were still crunchy later in the day and everything stayed fresh. It is a great place to order food for parties and for dining onsite. Lastly, the ordering process went smoothly and I did not need to pay for half of the $ up front which is typical and understandable. I thought the response to my former review was pretty lame. I get that adobo is prepared bone-in. I'm Filipino and have been eating adobo my entire life. I've had it prepared by many different families and by many different restaurants. The bones aren't the issue here. The big issue, and HUGE safety hazard, is the size and sharpness of the bones. Like I said, there were shards of bones in the food. Many of the shards were sharp and too small to see before you bit down on them. I threw away a huge portion of the adobo because everyone was afraid of hurting themselves eating it. Since ordering this for my wedding shower, I've had adobo at a handful of other places and haven't had this problem again. read more

Uggghh! I really wanted to like this place. Super clean. Fast and friendly service. Hot food. Weird hours. Rancid cooking oil. I know...this last two comments are epic fails. I'll come back to those two issues! Filipino food is generally tough to find at a five start level. The idea behind two item combos generally means they have the food in warming tables. Most Filipino restaurants serve the food at a barely warm temperature in an effort to not dry out their foods. This place serves their items at a much warmer than usual temperature. A very welcome feature. I ordered the two item combo. It is $16.99. I chose the chicken and pork adobo and the beef a frittata. She served one item in the Styrofoam container with the rice and dished the other item in a small bowl to make sure I got enough sauce and enough product. Because it was hot, and Ample, I would give them more stars than most Filipino restaurants. I ordered the lechón kawali which is sold by the pound. Kind of a bummer because I really only needed a quarter of a pound but it's my favorite item and I figured I could eat it as leftovers. The cashier told me she would bring it out as they were preparing it fresh. I started to eat my other items and found them quite tasty, and a very nice serving size. Once the lechón arrived, i could hardly wait...it was hot and fresh! But the flavor was off. I tried another piece...really off tasting! I couldn't tell if the meat was spoiled or if it was cooked in rancid oil. Super super disappointing. The portion was very nice but man I couldn't believe it was spoiled. Could it be possible that it was cooked in rancid oil? That is such a fail in the cooking universe. I didn't complain to the restaurant because they were closing upon my arrival. Big waste of money...gave me an awful stomach ache...and even worse it gave this Filipino restaurant a big NO GOOD in my book. Super sad because they had so much going for them. We go frequently for breakfast. Love their longsilog! Portions are generous and food is delicious. Often buy large tray of garlic rice for parties (so good!) and their special vinegar goes well with almost everything. Service is prompt and very friendly. Placed an order for lumpia Shanghai and chop suey in the morning to be picked up at 2:30 on 12/26. We arrived a little after 2:30 and saw that they didn't start frying until we asked for our order. Obviously they forgot. Our order wasn't ready until 3:00. This delay caused us to be late to our party in Rancho Cucamonga. I was sad because it was my wife's first time ever tasting Filipino food and I announced that cheerfully and loudly to the lady at the front counter, to which she replied with an emotionless face "so what does she want?" I was really hoping to show my wife some Filipina hospitality and charm, but there was none to be found. The pancit was quite bland, the kaldereta was okay, the garlic rice was good, and guys -- we have to talk about the chicken adobo. It was LITTERED WITH BONE SHARDS. We're talking easily a dozen tiny pieces of deadly bone, some like shark's teeth, some as long and thin as needles, in almost every bite. It was completely unacceptable. Whoever's chopping their chicken needs to be more careful by far! Any one of these could easily have pierced my gum or tongue, or heaven forbid I'd swallowed one and lacerated my intestines! (EDIT TO ADD: owner replied that bone shards are a natural part of the dish. False; I have eaten adobo numerous times, bone-in, and there's no requirement that the food be sprinkled with dangerous bone shards; I can't imagine any filipino chef suggesting this is the optimal way to eat the dish!). All-in-all it was a "meh" experience, and I feel like I have to rush to find another, better Filipino restaurant to take my wife to soon so she doesn't think this is what it's supposed to be like. Wtf.. so I replied back, to get lost with your trash service. Cajun shrimp they served had an after yucky taste. Does the chef even test taste the sauce end shrimp if it is still good or not. I asked my chef friends and they said it's because it is old batch or the shrimp was mishandled causing the meat to go bad. Good thing they sliced the crispy pata. The skin was crispy but it was bland. Inside meat and cartilages was like a rubber. It was tough to eat as it was dry and bland meat. You all need to go back to the drawing board how to cook crispy pata correctly and how to provide a good service to any customers specially the foodies. I wish this place the best. Good luck to anyone that comes here. You are better off McDonalds next door. You have so many room for improvements like train you staff common sense of proper service and get off the damn cellphones while working and fire your chef! Get someone else that can actually cook! Kusina is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall but don't let the unassuming facade deter you. If you like Filipino food then you know how hard it is to find good Filipino food. This place checks off most of the boxes - taste, variety, quality, price and service. Forget the ambiance. You're taking it to go. The lumpia is outstanding. It's crispy, it's tasty and for about $5 you can get a loaded box of 12. My favorite is the adobo of course and Kusina's is a mix of pork and chicken. Delicious! The beef sinigang was really good too. The portions of meat were very generous. If you like chicharron, you'll probably be a fan of the freshly fried dilis. These are tiny anchovies fried in a crispy batter. I spoke to the owner who said he had been opened for about four years now. You can't sit inside but pickup is certainly available. This spot is kinda hidden in a plaza on Reseda Bl. just north of Devonshire Bl. But once you're in their parking lot, you can't miss it. I've never had traditional authentic filipino food so I don't really have a comparison. However, that didn't stop me from eating at this restaurant. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. Since it was my first time, they described all of the different dishes they had. I ended up with the pork adobo, and the fried tilapia. Both were really excellent choices. the pork adobo was flavorful and the pork was tender. The fried tilapia was great, (if you like fish and you don't mind picking out the bones as you eat). I am a fan of fried fish, so it didn't bother me. Before I finished my meal, a friendly worker brought their dessert (they called it a banana fritter) for me to try, FOR FREE! The banana fritter looked like a lumpia, but the inside had banana and another type of filling. The outside was made with what looked like wonton skin and deep fried then drizzled with sweet caramelized sugar. This would go great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Their garlic fried rice that came with my tocilog plate was flavorful. Their tocino tasted freshly made and it was great! Their dilis also tastes like it was fried just recently so that's a plus! It's always a pet peeve of mine when places fry a bunch of dilis at once and serve it over long periods of time. Doesn't feel as crunchy when it's just sitting. Got the tapsilog and pork sisig. It was soooo good. The tapsilog was a good portion for the price. It was very filling. The pork was moist and the crispy pork skin made the dish craveable. I ordered some pancit for takeout for my pops and called my order in. I had never ordered from this place, so I wasn't sure how the food would taste. This place is located in the same plaza as Shakey's. It's pretty hidden though as it's all the way in the corner. Pick-up was easy. They had my food ready for me at the time promised. Walking in felt like I was walking into a restaurant in the provinces of the Philippines with my Titos and Titas.
