I booked a move in Charlottesville through Kustom moving and it went awesome!! After contacting the company, I was unsure about paying the deposit (worried about scams), but Walter was nice about it and waived it off. He also gave me a nice flat rate. On the day of the move, Jamal and Wallace arrived on time with the truck and did an awesome job with the move. These guys can do some serious lifting and quickly moved a lot of heavy boxes and showed us some neat tricks (See attached pics). They also found a clever way by using the lift of the truck across the first floor balcony to move the heavy boxes. Ingenious!! It was a really hot day and there was a lot of stuff but the guys still managed to finish the job in two hours and made the move a lot of fun. They were clever and innovative in coming up with ways to make the move more efficient and faster. This was by far the smoothest and stress-free move I have had in my life. I'm going to start my review by saying that we were a "difficult" move. I called last Tuesday needing to move on Saturday. Walter was my main point of contact, and he was very accommodating --- started earlier than normal to help us (my husband just had surgery on his leg and couldn't really participate in a move). Add to the short notice the fact that we had a storage unit to empty, a mothers house to go to and try to fit everything into a smaller apartment in west broad village where they had to fight for curb space. Add to that it was pouring down rain and cold. Walter & Moe showed up on time, very chipper with great attitudes. They decided to split the move and unload the storage unit then go to the mothers house (which was a nightmare in and of itself) LOL. They moved everything with great care, nothing got wet, and we were very satisfied & pleased. Then we realized communication had failed and the 55" TV from the mothers house had not been moved. Walter went out of his way on a Sunday (the next day) to go back and deliver our TV on his own time. This company is hands down the best movers I have ever hired (and I'm 45). I called this company two weeks ago and made arrangements for them to come move me on 6/22/19 at 9:30 am. I spoke with Walter and he gave me the price and took my information. Three days before the move I called them and confirmed the day and time with Walter and he confirmed it. On the day of the move, they did a no call no show! I called them several times and no answer. The voicemail would not let you leave a message but it would send an SMS message with your phone number. I did that and I sent a regular text message from my phone as well as a FB message and I still didn't get a call back. I would not recommend them to anybody!! read more

We booked a move from Richmond, VA to Cary, NC and the entire process was seamless and awesome. I could not even think of one improvement opportunity . Mention below some of the things which comes to my mind per the experience. *Cost - One of the best and cheapest quote of all, flat rate and no hidden charges. We were so pleased with the experience therefore included 10% gratuity on top of the agreed amount. *On time arrival - They promised to arrive at 12pm for pickup on Friday 5/31 and they were at door 11:59am... again promised to deliver at 12pm on Saturday 6/1 and were outside our new home at 11:55am (again this was long distance move) *Fast and Efficient - Pickup completed in 2hrs and all boxes/furniture assembled in 2.5hrs... I was little surprised the way this team was picking furniture/boxes however they were strong and quick *No Breakage - Adequately handled, all intact Overall a great experience and with the owner (Walter) being personally involved the entire process was stress free. Kustom DID NOT SHOW UP for my scheduled/confirmed move and never called back to explain or update. Completely unreliable and incredibly unprofessional. I reserved a time with Kustom three weeks in advance to help with my move. They confirmed the time and sent a reminder three days in advance letting me know that I was scheduled. The day of the move, no movers showed up during the 30 minute window that we had scheduled and confirmed. I had to call to get an update at which point they told me they had cancelled my reservation (with no communication). They told me they could still send the movers and would be there within the hour. After asking for my address, they told me the movers would be leaving within ten minutes. The movers never showed up. I called all of the phone numbers associated with Kustom and no one picked up (despite all of this occuring during normal business hours). They were all forwarded to a voice mailbox that was full. Kustom never called back to explain. I was left to figure out how to move out on my own with no notice. I would strongly recommend not using Kustom movers. read more

Last year this time, this company moved me and now my ex-fiancé with professionalism and speed. This time, my date was shifted without a phone call and for the last two days my messages and phone calls haven't been returned. WARNING- Do Not Use This Company. If I could give this company a negative number I would. We were scammed. I hired Kustom Moving and Storage I November 2018. He stored (or was suppose to store) our belongings until we sold our home and found a new residence. We finally got to move in to our apartment on 2/17/20. Walter Jones didn't even deliver what was left of our property. They stole over $12,000 worth of our belongings and destroyed over $800 of what they did get the contract crew to bring. He actually canceled the extra insurance I paid for (cost of $350.00 on top of the regular moving insurance) sometime in 2019 while I was still paying him $475 per month to safely store my property. They broke into every box and took stuff, even all of our clothes. Every box that the guys brought to our new location was destroyed and the didn't even try to tape them back together(see pictures). Even though he lied and said we would get reimbursed, we are not holding our breath. He has no license according to the VA COMMISSIONER OF LICENSES and he canceled his insurance in 2019. My move was scheduled for Saturday between 9-10 am. I confirmed on Wednesday with Walter. The day of my move I was stood up, received no call back/explanation. I still have not heard anything as much of an apology today (Monday). I used his services before without any problems so I didn't think I would run into any issues. Pro: - The movers were both really very nice and polite. - they helped me by wrapping furniture to avoid damage - they helped me wrap my mattress in a protector I had (I just couldn't do it by myself but they did it for me). Con: - arrival time between 830-9am. Got a call at 9am stating that the movers had a late night the night before and were given the opportunity to sleep in. They will be 30-35 min late. Ok, not big deal at all. - 955am: called because they still didn't show up. Said they were 5-10 min away. Ok. - 1027am: called because they STILL weren't there. Said they will contact driver to see where they were. Was told driver attempted to call me (dispatcher gave them the wrong number) - 1044am: called the driver, said they were 10 min away. - 1102am: call saying they were 5 min away. - one of the movers said it was the easiest move they've had all week. We have 1 couch, 1 bed, 2 dressers, and a lot of misc items and boxes. They did not finish packing the truck until about 5pm. At which they asked if they could complete the delivery (out of state) tomorrow. - called husband at delivery site around 1030pm, said about an hour away. Did not arrive for another 3 hours. - there were some items in another location of the building: a tv, golf clubs, and a table. Only the TV was packed. The golf clubs were stolen, and the Table needed to be thrown out as we had no way of shipping it without renting a truck, defeating the purpose of movers. - damaged stainless steel items, scratched. I guess a good thing is that they still work. - was told that a link would be sent for payment, no link. But received an invoice today saying late fees will incur tomorrow. We have no reason NOT to have paid as my husbands company is paying for our relocation. NO response on any of our inquiries about items above, mainly about damage and unpacked items, but they're more than happy to give us a late fee 1 day after invoice was sent. Only really posting on Yelp because obviously they're not listening to any of our direct inquiries. 1 star solely because they were nice. UPDATE - please read owner's response below. - Thank you for the discount however there was no communication that it had happened. We did not pay for the move ourselves so we did not look at the invoice. There was no notification that any of our inquiries were received. - After this review was posted, I received a message from another customer of yours. Apparently they had heard about the troubles of OUR move as the movers discussed it with them. Not professional. Additionally, they mentioned that they had a similar experience. - Those missing golf clubs? I received a call swearing up and down that the golf clubs were packed however they did admit to forgetting the table. They were adamant that the golf clubs were the "5th thing" off the truck at delivery site. A day or two later my building manager called and said someone turned the golf clubs in. The person thought they were "free" as they were left out. So I'm pretty sure that they were NOT the "5th thing" unloaded. UPDATE #2: Walter has now been working with us directly, rather than through his employees, which is a vast improvement. Simply the acknowledgement, understanding, and empathy of the situation is appreciated. These were the best movers I have ever used. They were professional, efficient, and very knowledgeable on what needed to be done and the best way to get it done. They were also HALF the cost of the other quotes and offered the same, if not more, services. Not to mention that I had to change my moving day TWICE with a 24 hour notice. They even did this in inclement weather which was very kind of them. Thank you!! They were great! First time using a moving company and wish I would have used them many moves ago! I feel like their pricing was very decent for all the heavy pieces i need them to move. They had a good size truck with lots of pads to protect my furniture. They gave me an hour window on when they'd show up, and then worked nonstop until every piece was put in it's place, they even set up my bed/headboard (without me even saying anything!) they were very careful too. Kustom Moving is a joke. The employees hit my car while it was parked. The person they were moving was nice enough to let me know. She called the owner Walter J. Who told her to give the person which is me his phone number to contact him. Which she did and he had been giving us the run around and trying not to pay. They also didn't finish moving her and she paid them. They left because they hit my car. I will get my money. You can run but you can't hide. The Police is coming for you! Great decision. They were fantastic. Walt and his crew got the job done in no time, with no damage to our property. They loaded and unloaded our stuff in an amazingly short time. DO NOT HIRE THESE GUYS!!! My wife and I booked them months ago for a move to Pennsylvania. The few days prior to our move, we were unable to get ahold of anyone and there was no voicemail. The night before the move, all we got was a confirmation email, but no call back. The day of the move, my wife called several times with no response. When I called from an unknown number, Walter finally answered thinking that I was a new customer. He seemed to have no clue if the movers were even coming. After I repeatedly called him, he informed me that no one would be coming...on the day I was supposed to be moving out of my building. He said that we should have given more notice. My response was...isn't a few months enough notice?? These guys are super rude and unprofessional. If you don't want to get caught scrambling last minute for a move, I would look elsewhere. Walter does not move on his own, but hires contractors. He requires a deposit, but never sends a legitimate contract which is sketchy. 5/24/19. I had a contract with Kustom Moving to move my office. They were to arrive btw 1-3 and called at 2:30p to say they couldn't get to me until 5:30p and would check in in abt an hr to give an update. I contacted them at 4:30p bc I had not heard back and they said 6:30p. After 6:30p they stopped answering the phones and only had full mailboxes so could not leave a message. They never showed up leaving me stranded and never contacted me afterwards. Also I had to sit in a packed office waiting all day for them not to show. Walker and his staff were wonderful to work with and provided great service at a reasonable cost. They were able to move our one bedroom apartment from start to finish in under three hours and that included a 30 minute drive from our old place to the new place.
