Being a residential real estate broker in the Pasadena area, I come across a lot of plumbers during inspections and remodels. I can confidently say that Doug is by far the best, most reliable plumber I whom with I have worked. We have used him for inspections, repairs, installs, emergencies, and he has always come through. When choosing the vendors we recommend, the most important thing we look for is honesty and integrity. Doug has them both. We have no reservations leaving him alone in a 10 million dollar home knowing that the work will be done professionally and he will leave the job site cleaner than when he arrive. Last week, at my own house, my water heater started to leak, I called Doug and he was able to come on the same day. I told him where the hidden key was, my alarm code and where the water heater was, he called me to tell me the problem and what it would cost. When I arrived home I had a new water heater and Doug was gone. So not only can you trust him, but he also trusts you. It harkens back to the small town days when everyone knew each other and if you forgot your wallet, you could just bring the money in the next time. He knows his craft well, he has never been to an inspection where he has not been able to diagnose the problem and give you an accurate estimate on the spot. I don't think he takes on huge jobs anymore, like entire re-plumbs, but I may be wrong. But for repairs, he even came out on Thanksgiving one year b/c the drain was clogged, and medium sized jobs he is the only one we use. read more

You know that EASY button in the Staples commercial? This guy is that commercial! My parents were having a problem with their kitchen sink... loose hardware, leaking, low water pressure, and who knows what else. I call Doug and explain that I'm in Newport but would like for him to go to my parents' place in El Monte and see what he can do. I also explain that I can't be there, my dad will let you in, trust me, just get there ASAP. Doug says no problem, what's the address, and I'll be there in less than 2 hours. Well, three hours later my dad calls me back and is raving about Doug's professionalism, his easy going attitude, and how he quickly figured out and fixed the problem(s). I called him to my house to install a new toilet and to haul away the old one. He quoted me $125. He came over, on time. After he was done he was leaving the old toilet in my backyard. I reminded him that my understanding was that he would take it. He hesitantly took the old toilet away, but charged me $150. Gave him a benefit of the doubt. So I tried him the 2nd time in less than a week b/c my second toilet had a leak. He just tightened the bolts inside the water tank and charged me $125. Maybe I am wrong, but this seems too much for a 15-minute job. I thought I found a reasonable plumber, but maybe not. I will continue looking for a more reasonable plumber. I rarely give Yelp reviews anymore, and it's not really like Doug needs yet another glowing review, but I just want to say that he did a terrific job for me with my kitchen plumbing problem and charged me a very reasonable price. Doug is a friend from our kids going to school together. That said, I wouldn't write a good recommendation if it wasn't deserved - I'd probably just not say anything... This past Sunday he was walking in the neighborhood with his family and I told him I wanted him to come by because the water pressure in our shower was weak. He suggested my husband clean out the shower head and/or remove the flow restrictor. My husband did as suggested and it's wonderful! I love my shower again! First off, I have never worked with this company. Today I called to try to schedule an appointment. I'm not sure if this is a handyman or an actual company with multiple staff, but it sounded super casual as there wasn't even a business referenced when he answered. Said he could help if it was late. Then, I kindly informed him I had a smaller crawlspace and if that would be an issue I didn't want to waste the time. He made a comment I didn't understand so I asked him to repeat it...then he hung up. I guess that wasn't going to work for him. Fair enough, but he could have been more courteous. Unprofessional. I just called Doug, on a whim, after reading these Yelp reviews. So glad I did! He was in the area and he came over immediately to look at my kitchen faucet, which had a drip leak from the spout. He replaced two cartridges, cleaned out my garbage disposal and was super professional and to the point, which is what I like. His rate was very fair and reasonable! I was going to call Mike Diamond - saw the horrible reviews - and googled for a Pasadena plumber. This guy is great. We jammed a bunch of carrot meat from the juicer down the garbage disposal like a bunch of idiots, thus flooding our entire kitchen at 1:00 in the morning. We found him on Yelp, and Kuttruff himself came out within half an hour and started snaking that mofo like nobody's business. He fixed the problem quickly, didn't give us any sh*t for not knowing Garbage Disposal 101. On his way out, he noticed the sink handle for our faucet was the wrong size, went out to his truck and swapped it out for the right one at no extra charge. Now I don't have burn the skin off my hands when I wash the dishes. This guy is cool as sh*t. called 2 times. the guy sounds like he's unhappy about working as a plumber. ask to get a check on my water heater, doesnt give me a time when he can come in just asks what time I'll be home. 3:30pm. I wait for an hour, must have arrived when I was cleaning my garage so I see him get in his van and yell to get his attention and he jets off. try someone else a bit more detailed in their job and less grumpy. read more

Once again Doug came to the rescue. Our kitchen sink was not draining and rather than call a plumber I decided to fix it myself, big mistake. Not only could I not clear the clog, but I proceeded to monkey with the pipes and started a leak. I called Doug and he was at my house in 15 minutes. He went right to work and cleared the clog and fixed the leak. He charged a reasonable price and performed excellent work. This is the second time I have used him and he is the best. While he was at the house, he also took a look at a couple slow drains in the bathrooms and shower and tightened up loose faucets on 4 different sinks! Fantastic, honest, no nonsense plumber. I'm absolutely using him again. I called 5 top yelp plumbers this morning to fix two shower cartridges. Three got back to me. The first one to come charged $50 for the visit and quoted $700 to fix the two shower cartridges. That sounded too high to me, and the plumber seemed quite unsure of himself. I talked to Mr. Kuttruff and he said it would be $289. He was able to come within a few hours. During the repair, he found I had broken part of the shower handle as well. He had to go get the part and fixed it at no extra charge. I would gladly have paid extra. He saved me over $400. He has my highest recommendation. read more

Called Kuttruff at 11:30 am on a saturday, Doug told me one to two hours to get out to change out our kitchen faucet. Gave me a quote over the phone. Showed up within in an hour and installed it. I asked a friend for recommendations for plumbers and she recommended Mr. Kuttruff. So I called Mr. Kuttruff about a leaky faucet. He arrived in about 20 minutes!!! and fixed it in literally 30 seconds. It's a tricky one too because we use Dishmaster and most plumbers never know what to do with it. We've had another problem that other plumbers couldn't fix and it's been driving my husband and I nuts for months. It's a weird, loud, piercing screech that happens when I do the laundry outside but can only be heard in one bathroom. It also sometimes comes on when you run other sinks. After about 30 seconds he figured out that not only was our toilet installed improperly (something called a ball and cock) but that also it was installed in such a way as to waste a lot of water. In a drought. I had no idea. He happened to have this part as well in his truck. Then he only charged $120 for both. I am so grateful and I will use him from now on. read more

Doug came out on a Sunday, very quickly, because I had broken a valve off under my bathroom sink. Although water wasn't gushing everywhere, it was enough that I had to put a big bowl under the sink and empty it a couple of times. I cannot believe this happened. I called because of the review I saw here at yelp. His main number connects you to his cell if he is not at the office and he picks up. He is friendly, I describe my small problem I have and he says I'll be over within the hour. He was here in 45. I thought I needed a new faucet set and he says no, let me just replace a small part and your set. He also replaces my hot water shut off valve in 15 minutes. He looked another issue in my basement and said he could take care of a piece of pipe that wasn't looking that good, but said it looks a lot worse than it is and I shouldn't waste the money. A while back ago, I phone Doug for replacement of my old kitchen faucet to a new Grohe faucet. He quote me somewhere around $100. It took him under an hour to replaced. He made it look easy to assembled but indeed it looks way more complicated to a lot of other contractors. Grohe faucet have many parts and he made it look like he was building Lego.
