Excellent Cambodian Food. This food is truly authentic. I hadn't tasted flavors like this since I was in Cambodia 10 years ago. Parking is limited but there are stops in the back lot. Clean family run, great food. If you want home cooked cambodian food head here. read more

Heng Lay.... Try: Phnom Penh noodle soup. Delicious! It's like pho, but with pork instead of beef. Stir fry pork intestines with pickled mustard greens. My fave! Salmon salad-- perfect blend of sweet, salty, and sour! Seafood dry noodles, yes.... try this as well! Skip the meekathung, unless you like powdery meekathung. Gross. I've been to Heng Lay a few times, and the food is always flavorful and well prepared. The menu isn't too extensive, but I suppose that makes it easier to narrow down the choices. It appears to be a family-owned place, and the people are always helpful and friendly. Last time we had loc lac (very tender), spicy chicken (with kroeung lemongrass curry paste), a traditional Khmer veggie dip (with prahok, an acquired taste that I have acquired), special lort noodles, and a very spicy and pungent papaya salad. Prices may be a notch higher than some other Cambodian places in town, but the value is still good. We are so lucky to have so much amazing Southeast Asian food in Lowell, and Heng Lay is right up there with the best of them. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal at Heng Lay. It's a neat, laid back restaurant with great food. We had the spicy beef with rice and the Special Phnom Phen noodles. The noodle soup reminded me of a fishball noodle soup dish that I love from back home (Singapore) and the spicy beef rice was amazing. We also tried out trey parma which was yummy and refreshing at the same time. A part of me wished that we had brought some friends along so that we could have tasted more dishes! It's about a 40 minute drive out of Boston on a weekend and worth the drive, especially if you plan to do some Asian grocery shopping at V-Mart nearby. read more

Wow! This little gem is just flat out delicious! I have had Vietnamese and Thai but after trying Cambodian I am hooked. It's a good thing I live 30 miles from here else I would eat here 5 times a week. I have tried the Spicy Chicken stir fry and the Spicy Ground Pork which I enjoyed with 2 fried eggs and loaded with fish sauce and thai chili. My wife had the mixed noodle soup with chicken beef and shrimp and Satay Beef lemongrass. I highly recommend this quaint restaurant. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Clean and very good value for your dollar. It's officially on my top 5. I will conclude my review as I'm now getting very hungry. read more

This is the best food in Lowell that I've had. My son had the spicy calamari, which was as good as any squid I've had at any restaurant, spicy and portioned generously. My wife had a chicken soup, huge, tasty, and fresh (actually, it was heavy on a spice I didn't care for, but that's on me, not the dish.) I had seafood chow foon, as good an Asian dish as I've eaten, and we split a mango salad that was outstanding, heavy on the lime and with lots of small shrimp. My son had a mango shake, also great, but when will I learn to make him eat before he drinks these things...? We couldn't finish it, and we'll be back. I must've walked and driven past this inconspicuous place a dozen times, a free-standing building in the middle of a residential neighborhood, but I finally had the occasion to check it out yesterday... and WOW, am I glad I did! What a fantastic restaurant. My friend and I started with spicy chicken wings, which were messy and glorious. Heng Lay's menu seems to be mostly soups, so I took the hint and tried a sweet & sour shrimp soup (a portion intended for two people to share), filled with pineapple, vegetables, and a broth that wasn't overpoweringly sweet or sour... I continued eating long after I felt full. The place is clean and comfortable inside, and the staff friendly. They do not serve beer or wine, so (like Simply Khmer) you are welcome to bring your own bottle(s). read more

Really good food at this out of the way place. The spicy chicken wings are wonderful! The soups are ridiculously good. One medium soup will serve two people. The large a family of four. The pad Thai was tasty but the spicy chicken with rice was a mistake. The downside of this restaurant is its just not as clean as it could be. Sticky tables, floor not swept promptly.... The service is friendly and quick. Would definitely come back for the soups! read more

First time I came here was about two years ago visiting some family and I was ecstatic about trying Cambodian food from a restaurant because In Chicago we don't have a large Cambodian community nor are there any dining venues available. I'm a millennial too busy working and I order out too much and I don't cook. Ever. I was skeptical at first about eating cambodian food that wasn't from my mom but I was quite surprised. I was overly excited that I was able to order rice soup at like 3 pm but even more impressed when it was delicious!!!! It wasn't too soupy or thick and the rice grain wasn't broken too much. Awesome experience and the food was on point as well as the service :) and now that I'm back visiting family I will try another Cambodian staple dish and I know I won't be disappointed! Happy eating yall! My only complaint is that they don't have a location in the chi :( read more

Authentic, family-owned place. Nothing fancy, but delicious food at reasonable prices. We asked for the owner's recommendations, and once we said that we were adventurous eaters who'd traveled quite a bit in Asia she recommended one of the Khmer specialties. I have to admit that it wasn't our favorite, but I can tell it was done well (just not our favorite flavors). The beef lo lak was really delicious, and it sounds crazy to laud the fried rice but it was super delicious (and reminds me of the eggy fried rice at a great place in Los Angeles). They were happy to oblige my need for no cilantro, and I appreciated that. Also much appreciated was their willingness to customize my shake drink, and it was yummy. Everyone kept checking on us, making sure we liked it and didn't need anything else. We were there at a holiday time and so it wasn't busy and parking was no problem, but I can see how it might get tough at busy times. read more

Great and authentic Cambodian food! Excellent prices, large portions, friendly and helpful wait staff. We brought a young family friend who spent two years in the Peace Corps in Cambodia, living in a small village with a farm family. She is fluent in Khmer and we all had a great time seeing the owner and her family exchanging stories, pictures, and jokes in their own language with our friend. Our friend said the food is absolutely authentic and we just knew it tasted great. This is a hidden gem, tucked away in a residential neighborhood, parking can be tricky. But you'll find a space. This was our second visit, and we'll be back for sure. read more
