Last time we went there this place was invaded with house flies. Yuk!! Against my better judgement, we went there again with the same friends..... Oh boy, do I regret recommending this place to them, again. This is now the filthiest restaurant I've ever seen.... Not only was there an unreasonable amount of house flies, this place now offers fruit flies too. Not just a few, I'm taking hundreds. Absolutely disgusting. Everyone at the table couldn't wait to finish the meal (somehow) and leave this filthy restaurant. Service was OK. Food was OK. Barely any meat in the "17. Pho". I'm done with this Pho Dalat. And to tell you the truth, I'm done with all three Pho Dalats.... If management won't recognize they have a cleanliness and bug infestation problem, and do anything about it to fix it, then I can only imagine what goes on in the kitchens. Bleh...... Never again! I came here a few months ago with my girlfriend and it was a horrible experience. She had ordered a seafood pho. The shrimp was not cleaned, not only that we found maggots in her bowl! At first I thought she was overreacting and then I took a second look and fully inspected the bowl and we found a bunch of maggots! Unbelievable! We informed the waiter and she thought nothing about it as she said "that's how the bowl comes". Disgusting! We were very upset and the following day my girlfriend felt very ill and we believe it was from that abomination of a "pho", as she only had a few bites. The place was quite overpriced as we ordered only 2 medium sized bowls, and springrolls as the total came up to $60!!! I happened to be circling around Lowell and found this Vietnamese restaurant with easy parking for my tea fix. It's nice spacious dining room area with old school Asian decors. And using glass surfaces on the tables so it's easier to clean up the splashes from people eating pho, very smart. Milk Tea- First time, it's way too sweet. But I was forgiving because 1) I was on the hunt around the area for quite a bit before I turned around and found this place 2) I could taste the tea! The second time is super annoying. We were conveniently down the street and I just wanted milk tea. Nope! It's a cup of milk for $4. And I happened to get two orders of these. Disappointed. Steamed Rice w/ Grilled Sliced Pork- The pork was a little dry but the marinade was decent. To be fair, I didn't use their house-made fish sauce which would have enhanced the flavor. l'm not a heavy sauce user anyways when I dine. Overall Service: I felt a little rushed. I just got in and started opening one of the menus at the hostess booth and the lady whips around from the corner asking me if I was ready. I needed at least a few minutes to peruse the menu. And then she asked again which she then told me to sit down at a table. So awkward and pushy, at least get the milk tea right! Jeez. This place should have good heating/air conditioning but this place was freezing when i came in. I was hoping to warm up to eat here but they have air conditioning on when its below degrees out. Parking is a bit tricky as there are only 5-6 spots in the front and side parking lot. The restaurant is just your average Vietnamese restaurant with basic decor. When we arrived, there was only one other table and one waitress working that evening shift. We were starving and I wanted everything on the menu. The Mo and I shared a few different appetizers and kept it "Tapas-style" like. We started with the Vietnamese fresh spring roll "Goi Cuon" along with an order of fried tofu and eggroll. The apps were good but nothing spectacular. My favorite dish was the Fried calamari. It was crispy and flavorful. We shared a large bowl of sliced rare steak and meatball Pho Noodle Soup. The broth lacked flavor and it wasn't great. Overall, it was a "Quick Fix" but we probably won't be back for a while. I usually like the pho here even tho it's overpriced compared to other pho areas. I especially would like to comment how I came n ordered two bowls of pho. Both pho bowls looked hot with the smoke deceiving me but when I went in it was cold. Another sign of cold was the raw meat. Normally if the soup was hot enough, it would cook the meat. The raw meat was still red. Told the waitress n she brought it back n most likely just microwaved it lol. Cause it came back the way it looked going in. Also, do not order a small unless you intend on eating only 3 bites of pho. Cause that's how small the small is. read more

My issue is it seems as though it was a marketing tactic from the restaurant itself (which is fine), but they gave themselves 5 stars for the one on chelmsford st/middlesex- dislike. I've never been one for Southeast Asian cuisine but figured I'd give it a shot one night. I drove by in the later part of the evening and despite the big sign out front, thought to myself that it looks conspicuously like a house. Walking up the front steps and seeing inside didn't dispel that feel at all. Seating is spacious and decor is comfortable, but I couldn't escape the feel that I was in a converted home. Service is prompt and you had better know what you want or at least be able to speak up. I went with the waitress's recommendations of spring rolls (Goi Cuon), Vietnamese crepe (Banh Xeo), and chicken curry. First and foremost, the portions are large, especially given the inexpensive prices. Everything was solidly tasty and spicy here is not a weak seasoning so exercise caution if it's not your thing. I can't recall the exact dish my cohort ordered, but I do know it was one of the larger soup bowls I've seen on this side of the Pacific. All I know is bring your appetite here and be ready for a cornucopia of tastes and flavors. Overall the look, feel, and ambiance is casual with no frills. I would easily believe all of the food has the attention to detail necessary to be great and the prices won't exclude the budget conscious. The Seafood Medley didn't really have much seafood pieces. Only to prices of fish cake, 2 shrimps and some calamari. $13.95 The Lemongrass Shrimp only had 6 shrimps. $12.95. The Pad Thai was good but unexciting. A good combo of tofu, egg and veggies. Drinks - I was going to try a Scorpion Bowl, but the price was outrages! $11.95 for a single and $17.95 for 2 people. I think this place is circling the drain. I stopped by today because I had an urge for fresh spring rolls (for takeout). When I stepped in, the hostess wasn't very welcoming. I placed my order and waited a normal amount of time. The spring rolls looked good, but looks can be deceiving. The stuffing was mostly lettuce and the shrimp were sliced so it looked like you got two per roll, but I don't think it was even one. It was slivered very thin. We were craving for Pho since it was so cold out. Drove by this place all the time but usually ended up going to Pho 88. I would say I rather go to this place than the other places around here. The hostess greeted and seated us (very friendly). They had a small bar in the corner and very clean. We ordered the egg rolls for appetizers. It was delish especially the sauce that came with it. We had the medium flank/meat balls pho (there's 3 sizes from small, medium and large) WOW, the medium can feed two people for sure. So make sure you have an empty stomach! For our beverage, ordered the ice coffee and the tri-color dessert. Both were decent! The service was really good! Very attentive especially when your water was low or anything you needed, they were there to bring it to you. I totally recommend this place to friends and will come back for sure! read more

Pho Da Lat is probably my all time favorite restaurant in Lowell. I've been eating there for years, and the food is consistently tasty. Deciphering the menu takes a little time, but it's the real deal: you aren't eating at Arby's. In the meantime you can always order a yummy drink, or soup for an appetizer (the wonton soup is SO good!). They even have what I consider really authentic dishes for the more adventurous souls. I've had pig-skin fresh rolls on occasion, simmered frog legs, and other delicacies I can't even recall. (Note: when a waitress raises her eyebrows at the silly gringa who thinks she can eat tiny frogs, she is probably right.) However, the menu is HUGE and there are many chicken, beef, and seafood dishes that are incredible. The other great thing about Pho Da Lat is the atmosphere (this is what takes it from a 4 star to a 5 star restaurant for me). The potted trees, giant happy fish, comfortable booths, groovy lighting... I seldom see large families in this restaurant, and the place is spotlessly clean; remarkably peaceful. I have been coming to this restaurant on a regular basis for the past 5 years. At this point, we don't even need to look at the menu, as the incredibly friendly staff know us and our orders by heart. We have never had a bad experience here and every item we have ordered have been perfectly prepared and are exactly like the pictures/descriptions. I guess I need to write a review after being PM twice by 'Jen' telling me to check out Pho Da lat. Well, I've been there before joining yelp and I didn't get a chance to write a review. Let's just say I'm quite disappointed. I ordered a special noodle soup with imitation crab meat in it and the thing was still frozen on the inside! it was so nasty i had to spit it out in the napkin. Did they not cook this thing well?? So obviously, it was frozen prior to being dropped in my soup. Definitely not going back. I don't want to get food poison due to their improper cooking. My friend ordered Pho to go a while back and she told me their bean sprout was slimy and wilted. It was nasty, she called them up to complain. If they don't have fresh bean sprouts at least be honest to the customers and tell them, so that way they can choose something else. Sometimes, it's not even a big deal. But to just throw in some slimy beansprout in and hand it to the customers is just wrong. Whatever though, my friends and I are not coming back. Better than Souper Bowl down the street, which is full of grease-ball punks shouting at the ball game on the tvs. Pho Da Lat has good food. The food is no better than other Vietnamese places, but the decor is nice. That gives it another star IMO. It's cleaner than other places, too. I loved the huge, Bonzai-style trees in the dining room. There's a big fish tank in the middle with very big goldfish (or maybe carp?) and one enormous gray fish. The bar is very cute. Loved it. There are those nice strings of lights on the Bonzai trees and around the bar. You know, not Christmas lights - lantern lights. Four stars for good Vietnamese food and very nice, very quaint decor and for overall cleanliness. It's open until 12:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

I was not impressed with this place. They use pho noodles that are original dry & then soaked in water. They have no flavor or texture. I like the fresh pho noodles instead. The tripe and tendons were not cooked long enough, therefore tough and rubber like. I would have choked if I tried to eat it. The tripe & tendons were a little yellowish too - not cleaned well. The broth wasn't great either, mostly salt. My Thai ice tea was good though. Service fine as well. But I wouldn't go back again. Sorry...just my 2 cent. read more

Food: Chicken Wings - Not anything too fancy, but they do give you quite a bit. Pho (Chicken) - I like it, but it has a strong sweet flavor to it that I'm still not used to. Pho (Beef) - Yes, it tastes like pho for the most part - but something is a bit off about it. It's a little too sweet like there's too much MSG in it or something. Atmosphere: The decor is nice, and there's a lot to look at - but it's a little tacky here and there. Staff: Depending on who you get (and if you're Vietnamese or not), you may have a good time or a difficult time. For the most part, they are pretty attentive - but sometimes you have to just flag them down. Final Thoughts: There is more than one Pho Da Lat in Lowell, but it's owned by pretty much the same people. This place is losing it. I've been a regular for about a decade now and there's been a noticeable drop in the quality of both the food and service. To start with the latter, as a very basic modicum of service, customers should be served water, tea or some sort of beverage as soon as they're seated or shortly after. I mean, it's pretty much customary, isn't it? The last few times I've been here, the server waited until after the food arrived to bring drinks. This is just unacceptable, especially when there are filled pitchers sitting in plain sight. Doesn't help that this place is never busy so there server to customary ratio is almost always equal. Secondly, the pho isn't quite as good as it used to be. It's okay but it used to be that I could say the pho here was unequivocally better than any pho place in Boston, that's not quite the case anymore. The quality isn't the only thing taking a hit, you're wallet will too. An extra large bowl is now $10 while it used to be a dollar less. And now the actual amount of pho you get is noticeably less. Just eye-balling, but I surmise that it's about 25% less than a couple of years ago. Always pains me to have tough words for a business I've frequented for such a long time but my honest opinion is that there's a general lack of care here that makes this restaurant kind of a sad place to visit now. read more

So the food was decent, came in and got the chicken Pho for lunch.. I enjoyed the big fish tank in the middle of the dining area. Service was a little poor though, hence the lowered rating. My waitress was talking on her cell and eating a pastry with her fingers, in between waiting on me. Kinda unhygienic and probably against a code.. def a little rude. When I posted a review of Pho 88 a while back, I almost immediately got several comments from people championing Pho Da Lat as being better, so I made a mental note to myself to give it a try some day and promptly never bothered to do anything about it. Today, I happened to be visiting a new client in Lowell, and I knew I was on my own for dinner since the wife and kid were otherwise engaged, so I decided to seize the opportunity and give it a whirl. Like most of the other pho places I frequent, this one is also rather non-prepossessing. It looks to be a former single-family home turned into a restaurant, and its located on an extremely busy street through a neighborhood of mostly light industrial businesses. Of course, as we all know, it's just this sort of place that turns out to be a hidden gem, so I didn't let any of that deter me. Because I finished with my client earlier than anticipated, I arrived at a very early time for dinner, but there were three or four tables already occupied. I didn't have to wait for service and placed my standard order: pho dac biet (the kind with sirloin, brisket, tripe and tendon) and an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were superbly minty and refreshing, and the peanut dipping sauce was excellent. The soup broth had a wonderful mahogany color. The plate of add-ins was a little skimpy on the basil and bean sprouts, but had sliced jalapenos, which I don't usually see most places. The meat in the soup was beautifully trimmed and thinly sliced, although the bits of tendon weren't cooked to that perfect melt-away consistency I love. The default size of the bowl is "medium", with "small" and "X-large" available -- medium was plenty, but I will probably indulge in an extra-large sometime. The flavor of the broth was beefy and deep, but lacked some of the aromatic quality that I love so much at Pho 88, particularly the essence of star anise. Overall, I was exceedingly pleased with the meal, but would not say that the food was better than Pho 88. The tight parking and busy traffic didn't bother me on this visit, but I can see where it would make it very hard to go there for lunch. I will definitely visit again and add Pho Da Lat to my list of pho joints. read more

i'm not sure where all these 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from.. maybe they sprinkled a little crack into your pho.. my grandparents moved from southern china to vietnam when they were young (all 4 of them) and both my parents along with aunt and uncles were born in vietnam. although 100% chinese blood we have a lot of viet influences. with that said, i've had my fair share of pho and other viet cuisines. i had a extra long lunch today and decided to have some pho at pho da lat. parking: only 5 spots, not very good considering the restaurant can seat 40+. table/setting: as mentioned, there were TONS of neon lights, the inside was kinda grimy, but honestly not very important to me, as long as the food is tight i don't care about the rest, especially at this establishment. after 10 minutes i noticed the restaurant filling up well (it was lunch) i had the pho dac biet and a viet iced coffee. the iced coffee was good, they are always good. the noodle soup was POOR. broth: it had nothing to it, i was sooo sooo sooo disappointed in the broth. sigh. i still can't get over it. it had no flavor, no punch at all. no love was put into it. the protein: first off, the trip was poor, the beef tendon was weak, i got this itty bitty slice. and the sliced beef seemed like it was already cooked before it went in. the meat is supposed to be raw when it arrives and cook in front of you. the beef was chewy and seemed precooked.. worst of all, the hot sauce and oyster/hoisin sauce bottles were sticky and gross.. with a staff of 4-5 i figured someone could be walking around keeping the stuff clean. the restaurant was super dark during lunch as well. all in all, the pho was pedestrian. i've had worse, but for 13 bucks i expected a better meal. i'll be going elsewhere for pho in lowell. disappointed considering the viet population in lowell. read more
