I withheld $3000 dollars for the repair of the shower. After months of realizing that contractors were not willing to take on a job this size, let alone be the last one to put their name on a cracked upstairs shower floor with standing water, I found someone who sympathized with my situation and in the end it ultimately cost a little over $3800 to have the entire shower floor ripped out and redone. Initially, there were a couple attempts to work with what was already there, but with each attempt the contractor came across other critical errors Kenny made. At least it's done and done correctly. First of all I hate the remodeling process. I hate the millions of options available. I hate the constant decisions making process. I hate the commitment to a style or feel. I hate confrontation. I hate not having a million dollars to do it and redo it until I can longer think of how I could have done it better. But we did it and survived. Kenny is knowledgeable, efficient, and responsive (he was always very quick to respond to phone calls or texts). He got the job done and on time. It was hard to stay ahead of him, which is not a bad thing. As another reviewer stated know what you want because you won't have time to change your mind. Unfortunately did not have a good experience with KV Builders. Prior to hiring our other contractor, we needed someone to help us finish our laminate flooring and re-do our fireplace which was going to be a quick 2-3 day job. We chose a laminate that had wood pattern in the planks, so in order to install, you have to space some similar pieces apart and put some though into the installation. Also, our fireplace needed a demo and we showed Kenny pictures of what we wanted it to look like. We came home one day and found a new fireplace built that looked a bit different than what we had showed him in the photos. It was our fault partially since we should've specified exactly how wide, how deep, how tall we wanted this fireplace, but we figured our contractor would ask us before building it? It was our first experience with hiring a contractor so we realy had no idea. Also, many of the laminates were put so that identical planks were adjacent to one another. My husband tried to get Kenny to re-do some of the flooring but he was not amendable to re-doing what had already been done. In the end, we had to terminate our contract early with KV Builders. I hired Kenny for my bathroom renovation. He was knowledgeable, experienced and very, very hard-working (I totally agree with one of the previous reviews that says he worked like a madman!). I wasn't home most of the time when he worked in my house but my father-in-law who was home and saw him working every day was so impressed and said "wow, he works non-stop!" As it is often the case with many renovation projects, we ran into some unexpected issues and unpleasant surprises as he demolished my bathroom, but Kenny always had great suggestions and ideas to resolve those issues without having to compromise on the project. I chose Kenny as my contractor because he had a great can-do attitude, fast communication and 20 years of experience in the industry, so he knew his stuff inside and out. Kenny remodeled my kitchen and 2 bathrooms, and he did a fantastic job modernizing them. He also needed to install exhaust ventilation in the 3 rooms because there wasn't any built in since the building was old, and even though there was no crawl space or attic, Kenny got the job done. Several other contractors I spoke to earlier refused to do this job because it was not easy, but Kenny got it done no problem. It was also really helpful financially that Kenny was able to save us money on cost of materials and supplies from Home Depot because of his Military Discount, especially with all the COVID price inflation recently. The only bad thing I can say about the experience was that the job took 2 weeks longer than scheduled because the cabinets we ordered were stuck in Long Beach port 6 weeks longer than scheduled due to the COVID shipping backlog - but this wasn't Kenny's fault at all. Overall, I had a great experience working with Kenny. He's extremely hard working, laser focused on his work, and always lets you know what's going on with the project. You always hear horror stories about bad contractors out there, but I found Kenny to be very fair, honest and up front about everything he did. The man guarantees his work, and if you have any questions or concerns, he's always approachable and willing to work within your requests. I hired Kenny to remodel a small bathroom with a walk-in shower and to paint several rooms. I rate 5 stars for the remodel and 4.5 stars for the painting due a minor glitch at the end that I will explain later. First, Kenny is a person of high integrity and character. He is punctual, reliable, efficient, and most importantly a highly skilled craftsman, who is dedicated to doing the project to the utmost detail and customer satisfaction. He is actually a remodeling artist, and like most famous artists he becomes a bit testy when someone interrupts him while working. Once one acknowledges this, he will be helpful in making suggestions to improve the project. The bathroom and shower were completed on schedule and exceeded my expectations. At the end of each day, all debris was removed and everything was cleaned up. The painting was a day late starting and was done extremely well. The two painters were hard workers, meticulous, and very skilled at their professional. The only problem occurred when the painters were finished. We were all exhausted and happy to be done. I carefully inspected the walls and ceilings, but I forgot to look closely at other areas. A few days later when I was putting everything back into closets etc., I noticed several places with small spots of paint that should have been cleaned. It is partially my fault for not doing a thorough inspection. Kenny would have called back the painters to cleanup, but it was easier and quicker for me to do it. Another item to consider is that Kenny charges a flat labor rate with the customer responsible for buying the tile, vanity, and sink and shower faucets, and all other material required for the project. I accompanied Kenny to Home Depot to pay for the material. This was a multi-step process to buy what was needed as the project progressed. So, in one week I made more visits to Home Depot than in the past 2 years. Some contractors charge a flat rate, which includes tile, vanity, and material with the exception of sink and shower faucets. Kenny buys good quality material and recommends places to purchase tile, vanity, and paint which includes his contractor's discount. You also get a 10% discount at HD since Kenny is a veteran. In the end, the total cost of the bathroom and shower remodel was about 20% less than another all-inclusive estimate. read more
