I went to this location as a former customer and with a trusting mindset. I had an oil leak and made sure they were aware that that was the reason for my visit. They had my car all day and called me 15 minutes before they closed to tell me all they found. I asked if all these issues would be the cause of my oil leak and they said yes. I told them to go ahead and fix the problems with the cost being higher than $1500. It has been over a month and my car is still leaking oil. I took it back to them two separate times both times my car sat outside not even being touched and then on the second return visit they told me it was going to be another $1800 to fix the oil leak that I already paid $1500 to fix previously. I have always trusted them but this situation has shown me that they have underhanded motives and are not the trustworthy repair guys I had been to before. This shop is pretty sleazy. I had a diagnostic done and a quote provided, it was all very reasonable. The next day I gave them the go-ahead to do a couple thousand dollars worth of work .. later that morning I got a message saying that one of the parts that I needed was discontinued at their supplier and that they would need to get it directly from the dealership .. that change added several hundred dollars to the original price quoted, but Tanner who I worked with said that it was the only option. I told them to hold off on the work and called around to other shops, other shops had no problem sourcing the parts that Kwik Kar said had been discontinued .. When I told Tanner that I would get the work done elsewhere he sent me a picture of their 20% cancelation policy. At that point he had only provided me quotes, I had not committed to the new work. I explained that and he quickly gave up on the scam, told me my keys would be in my car. They rope you in with a good quote, the first scam is a discontinued part .. it's going to cost more to source the part somewhere else .. The second scam is that cancellation fee .. save yourself money and a headache, go somewhere else. Update: one of the items Kwik Kar quoted me for was not even an issue. Two other shops looked at my car and said there was no issue .. and they didn't miss it, I told them what to look for based on Kwik Kar's quote. read more

KWIK KAR AUTOMOTIVE on Green Hills Rd.- BAD- extremely arrogate and rude owner!!!! I arrive for my appt. and I am waiting in the lobby. No one is there. Then one of the owners walks in from the garage and answers the phone without acknowledging that I was standing there at the counter where he answered the phone. He runs upstairs with the phone. I wait 10 min and go out into the garage to see if someone else could help me and no one was there. I decide to call their number to see if anyone would answer the phone. He answers. I tell him I am waiting in the lobby for my appt and he hangs up on me. He comes downstairs and I asked him if he hung up on me and he said yes he did because I honked at him. Then he asked me what I needed. I told him I had an appt for an inspection. He looked in the book and he sees my name. He says he did not like that I had honked so he is not going to deal with that and for me to go somewhere else. Here is what he is referring to........When I arrived I could not pull into the parking lot because there was a car parked and blocking the entrance and no one was in the car so I did a short honk to see if someone was there to move the car. Then a guy (the owner) comes over to move the car and then goes into the back of the building. He said that was rude of me to honk I should have known what they were doing and for me to go somewhere else. I was actually reluctant to go there in the first place because in the past I had read a lot of negative reviews about how disrespectful they are and they rip people off. But I thought it is just an inspection, no worries and they are close to me. But, now I am one of those writing a negative review. My car broke down today on the way to the airport and I was able to roll it conveniently into Kwik Kar. I am so thankful the universe sent me to this amazing place. The guys were so kind and helpful. Even though they were crazy busy they helped me out and got my car up and running within a few hours. This is the CLEANEST and nicest auto repair shop I have ever seen. It smells good, the bathroom is nice, and the furniture is comfortable. I don't live very close to Kwik Kar but I may need to make it my new repair shop nonetheless. I needed to get my out of state car safety checked for Missouri registration. I went here for that and a few maintenance things, oil change. wiper blades and a few more small things. As an older woman with an older car, I'm usually somewhat skeptical about major repairs. The staff at Kwik Kar were very knowledgeable and friendly and I felt comfortable there. My car passed the safety inspection. I had been to a very well-known shop the day before and did not pass with (believe it or not) over $5000 in charges, over $2500 immediately for my car to pass inspection. I thought immediately I'd get checked elsewhere it was worth an extra $12. I didn't tell Kwik Kar that it had already been looked at as I wanted their opinion with no prior information. Obviously, I feel I have found the mechanics I will use as long as I live here. That's why Kwik Kar gets 5 STARS!!! read more

Very friendly staff and great service. Place is clean and easy to get to if you live in the vicinity. Went here to get an oil change and ended up needing additional work. The wait was longer than they estimated only because the part that was delivered was the wrong one even though the packaging had the right item number. I only called to see what kind of work they did and ask some questions about some issues I've been having and all the guy could say is that "it's $100 would you like to make an appointment?" I had asked a follow-up question and expressed my concerns and he horridly disregarded everything I said and repeated himself saying, " it's $100 for us to do anything. Would you like to make an appointment?" as if my questions couldn't even be answered without paying $100. As an adult female who does not have a male person to handle the car repair conversations or assist her when she goes to take her car to the shop, who knows a little bit about cars, but not enough to know when I'm being taken advantage of, it would be very nice to find car repair shops, who are honest, respectful, and open to answering questions from people who know little to nothing about cars and are looking for a good car shop with decent rates and gives people respect at the same time. Unfortunately, those places are like diamonds and unicorns; hard to find or nonexistent. It wasn't pleasant to speak with that person at Kwik Kar, (I wish I had gotten his name) who would only say one thing over and over, and didn't want to answer any of my questions or be be helpful at all. That being said, it is absolutely no fun to walk in somewhere and be told that it's going to cost you more based upon issues out of your control. I am only giving one star because I have to. This has to be the worst place I've ever taken a car EVER! I bought a tire alignment on groupon, I needed an oil change as well because the oil was low. The guy told me it was empty then proceeded to tell me to buy oil down the street the motor was "shot" they'd put in a new motor for me or sell me a difference car but couldn't put oil in my car! When i first called this shop I was happy with the customer service and quality compared to other places that I called. When I was quoted for the services I was given a different price than when I came in to pick my car up. I also didn't receive a call when it was done and had to call several times and then was finally answered by someone on the phone rudely stating I can give him my card number even though I said I would like to be present. Once getting to the shop, I just wanted a breakdown on paper, not the computer, prior to me paying to actually understanding the cost. When mentioning this to the first worker, he was rude and said he can't do this and told someone else "you need to talk to her" before he stormed upstairs. I feel like as a customer, and also for you all as a business, you should be able to handle customers concerns better without being rude. The next associate began to enter numbers in on his calculator when I asked for a breakdown for brakes vs. the other service I was getting done. He then stated "I mean we could do this all night". Very rude staff when I am just trying to get a better understanding of what my money is going towards. I will not return or recommend anyone to come here. Being new to the area I'm still finding all of my new places for the basic necessities in life. Now I know that it's not as fun and exciting to yelp about everyday services as restaurants but its sure appreciated for those of us looking for them! When looking for a good place for an oil change in the Northland, I couldn't find much here. So I decided to go un-yelped (yes it's non a word but it should be) and find a place of my own! I decided to go on a Saturday morning which granted is a horrible time to go as that's when everyone tried to get their errands done. However, I was impressed but the level of customer service that they were providing on a busy morning. A member of the team, met me out in the line in the parking lot, got all my information and took my keys and gave me a time estimate to when my car would be in the bay. Once they were working on my car they were very fast and efficient. The tech took the time to explain my options to me but was also not pushy about his suggestions. Some car places can be pretty aggressive about the upsell or their recommendations for maintenance. This was not the case at Kwik Kar. Basic Oil Change is $29.99, $10 extra for high mileage oil. Not the cheapest option in town, but definitely reasonable and I'll pay a little more for quality service that isn't pushy. read more

I really really wanted to like this place... but in the end, all I can give it is an OK rating. Went here on a Saturday morning with a Google Offers coupon in hand. Let's start with the good - the place is comfortable, the staff is friendly, and they make waiting in the waiting area not-so-bad. There's free WiFi in house, a Keurig, and a popcorn maker (with giant bags). The staff was nice, and looked like they took care of the place. The downsides of this visit, unfortunately, cancel all that out. I went in right after opening, and was told it would take 30 minutes for my oil change. After 30, my car had just rolled into the service bay -- I wouldn't leave for another 30. (A good 10 of that was my car just sitting in the bay, after the change, but before they got around to giving me my keys.) Also, I was told I needed a transmission flush, an injector cleaning, and new front tires -- the tires, I was aware of, but springing the other stuff on me was not all that awesome. To his credit, the mechanic servicing my car didn't try to give me a hard sell, but at the same time... leaving the place after being told those things is never pleasant. So, end result? An OK rating. It was a pleasant enough place, but the downsides (especially on a first visit) were pretty down. read more

Late on a Friday night, my car began to make some strange noises. Immediately, I began to panic since my normal mechanic isn't open on the weekends and I had a trip planned to Lawrence the next day. I spent way too long on Friday night trying to find shops open on Saturday (fun fact, unless they are a chain, they usually aren't open). Not going to lie, Kwik Kar Automotive wasn't my first choice. (Sorry, but the whole "Kwik Kar" thing turned me off). However, the first shop I visited couldn't even see me that day. This turned out to be of great benefit. I walked into Kwik Kar, told them the issue, and they said they'd squeeze me in. After about 15 minutes, Travis took me into the garage, told me what the issue was, and gave me an estimate. He didn't even charge me for looking at the car. Travis was also really upfront and told me I wasn't having a serious issue and the repair could wait. From what I can tell, Kwik Kar is a family-owned and run establishment and is on the up and up. While everyone is worried about a mechanic ripping them off, these seem like some stand-up people. read more

This place is one of the biggest joke of an automotive shop I've ever seen. Working in a family business, I think I have a rough idea of what a business should and shouldn't look like. Here's the story: Take my car in for an inspection. Ask if it will take long? "Nah only 10-15 minutes. We aren't busy".... This turns into 2 hours! The owner or the owners son first gets my car in then proceeds to start doing 2 other oil changes. Then one of his buddies comes in to chat. I waited patiently for 2 hours waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Finally, when finished I was given a bullshit bill of $450 for repairs that weren't even needed! $60 to change out a bulb, a tire that didn't need replaced, and much more. I can run my own shop better than these idiots. If you want someone that knows cars and what they're doing, don't waste your time. These people obviously don't value it and clearly are just out for the people that don't know their car and charge for unneeded services. Go to either Christian Brothers or Goodyear. All the other shops around Barry Rd are pretty much garbage. read more

I used to drive a fleet vehicle, so I have numerous experiences with Lube & Tune businesses. There's nothing fun about spending time and money on routine maintenance for your vehicle, but it's necessary, and it's nice to be able to take it to someone you can trust to do the job right, do it quickly, and at a fair/competitive price. I've been taking all of my vehicles here since they opened (about ten years ago.) The business model is very similar to national chain lube & tune businesses, but because they are family owned, they don't have a corporate office pushing them to increase their average ticket sale by aggressively upselling services you don't need. They make a detailed list of all the maintenance your vehicle may need, and they'll prioritize them for you. Generally, you're in and out in under 30 minutes; when they're running on time, they'll even vacuum out your floor mats, clean your windows, and top off your wiper fluid at no charge! Lately, they've been busy enough that it helps to call ahead and make an appointment. I recommend this business to all of my friends and family. Try it once or twice; you can't judge a place like this after one negative or neutral experience. If you're happy with their service, they have a coupon sheet that includes four oil changes in addition to discounted auto service; the cost is approximately the equivalent of two oil changes, so it's definitely worth it for anyone who plans on returning. read more

We are typically a Walmart oil change kind of family. We just moved to this area and when we realized that the local Walmart doesn't provide oil change services (or else it wasn't noticeable after driving around the building) we did a search to find a free standing business. This was the only place in our area, and wonderfully located for us! We went on a Saturday and were helped immediately. The gal took our information and keys. We took the kids into the waiting area and they took the car right in to be serviced. The waiting area is just what you'd expect it to be size wise. There is free popcorn (a favorite for my family) as well as a vending machine that dispenses both snacks and cold drinks. There is also free wifi, which is a lovely bonus. The reason we typically dislike places such as this is the "salesman" style mechanics that typically try the hard sell on air filters and other extras. We didn't find that here. They told us we needed new tires, which we did need, but that was the end of it. No pressure! Reasonably priced, quick service, they even sent me a coupon via email so we will be taking my husbands vehicle there soon! read more

Save your money and go fix your car somewhere else where the mechanic won't rip you off. I came in to get my AC fixed, and I was told that I had to replace my AC hose, then two other things unrelated to my AC total $800+. I said fixed 2/3. After 2 of my car's issues were fixed, I got another call that I needed to replace my radiator and fan for another $200 plus. But beside all those issues, there's a possibility that they'd find other issues and that my AC wasn't still completely done. After our "long talk on the phone", mechanic challenge me to come down with my mechanic brother to see things for ourselves. When we showed up, we were ignored by the mechanic, and none brought my car out to me. I paid $500+ and my brother took the car out of their shop because none bothered to do so. Went home and looked at the blue book value of my vehicle and it was nearly triple the quote they offered. I have used this place for inspections and brake service before (took my own brakes though). I thought they were a reasonably priced service center UNTIL I needed my transmission fluid changed. I took MY OWN fluids and they charged me $100.00 for the labor!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE. I realize this is my fault because I did not ask what pricing was before I said ok to the service, but their claim to be less than the dealerships is FALSE. Jay Wolfe would have charged me $84.95-$94.95 with labor AND fluids. I have learned a lesson the hard way and I hoping those that read this will learn from my mistake. OK, here's the short version: I took my husband's car in for a state inspection. I was tired that day, and agreed to a tire rotation after the inspection. A short while later, I was summoned to see damage to the lug nuts. They stated that three were severely damaged, and it would cost me $195 to get them fixed. I had things to do, and was a bit upset. They then put the wheels back on, sans one lug nut, and expected me to leave. Of course, by the time my husband was able to get out of work, the car was sitting in the parking lot so he was unable to see what the issue was. After taking it to the mechanic that does our big repairs, other than oil changes, they found only one was damaged. It cost around $50 to repair. I will not be returning for any further oil changes or any other services. In previous visits they had always been pleasant, but I felt they were exceedingly rude this last visit, as well as trying to make money by taking advantage of a woman. read more
