The food looked amazing, but when we got there the host said they only took reservations, and offered take out, but the problem is we don't have a place to eat other than the hotel. Kwoks has a full patio, which we saw a couple being served at. I asked the host if we could sit outside if we did take out, and he gave us a ride, well technically yes, but we don't want you to. My wife and I had spent an hour trying to pick a great place for dinner, and it was wasted finding this place. More infuriating is I looked on Yelp, Google, and the website and didn't see this information anywherez though is was posted on the window. What a waste of time. read more

Kwok's has risen to one of the premier Chinese food restaurants in our area. The fixed menu this evening only kept their status as the premiere spot. The menu was a five course dinner that included sea bass, abalone, wagyu beef, duck breast and pork belly All the flavors were incredible and filling. With each dish came a wonderful explanation about the dish and how it was cooked. For example, the abalone was braised a little bit each day over the course of a few days. Excellent dish. I got the Mongolian beef and rice from this restaurant and although it was above average it definitely wasn't worth the price this restaurant is extremely expensive and even though it's not a terrible restaurant the price for the amount of food you get or the quality of it just isn't worth it I would rate the food a 6 out of 10 better than average but not amazing read more

Quality/Quantity - This is Asian American cuisine, so if you want authentic Asian food, this is not for you. Today we got the following: Fried Rice - Plain, but salty which I actually liked. House Chow Mein - Okay. Seafood Tofu Clay Pot - Interesting... Good, but not what I expected. Atmosphere - Very small local business. Indoor/outdoor dining, although the weather did NOT permit outdoor dining today. Small parking lot. Open 6 days a week, 11am till ?? See sign... Also the sign does NOT reflect the hours on Yelp. Closed Mondays. Service - Very strict on reservations, as this is a very small business with limited tables. I noticed that the team has good customer service skills when I watched them cater to the regulars. The son who ran the front end was on top of the business. They do have limited business hours 4pm to 8pm and limited seating. You really eeed reservations.oh my goodness, was I so wrong. This is some of the best Chinese I ever had. They use only fresh ingredients. Not frozen shrimp, beef, chicken. From the first bit of my beef it was obvious, the shrimp was plump and juicy.veggies were cool to Perfection. The service was more like being welcomed into to someone house. The chief and owner came by to chat and check on us. Five star fire again! I love this restaurant and when my wife suggested it for Father's Day with some great friends, Jeanna and Dustin, I was all in. They're on reservations only now, so call ahead during open hours to make yours. This time I finally got to enjoy Kwok's incredible roast duck! Yes, I know that probably comes as a shock, but it's true. Typically I'm here with my wife on a date and this isn't her type of dish. With so many other delicious offerings, it's hard to order anything I can't share with her, so I've always had to pass. Not this time and that duck is "all that and a bag of chips", as they used to say back in the day. Get it. You won't regret it! - mic drop Another thing I love here is the fact even the most simple of ingredients can be leveled up in the woks here. We were offered the last order of fresh asparagus in black bean sauce and at first I wasn't feeling it. Winnie came back to ask if we wanted it before offering it to another table and there was a resounding yes from everyone else, so we got it. Boy was I literally eating my words after one bite of this dish. The asparagus was so vibrant in flavor and color, anything but what I'd first imagined when I heard the dish. I couldn't get enough of this one. Salty, earthy, umami and oh so delicious. Another must get if available. We also got a special order of fried pig intestines! That was an unexpected treat. I've been dying to try this sort of preparation and it didn't disappoint. Crispy crunchy caramelized exterior with just a small amount of tender and fattiness on the interior, and served with a great dipping sauce similar to a hoisin. Dang. The old China Diner in downtown Reno! It's definitely not the same vibe. China diner was one of those Chinese fast food, dine in and take out where as Kwok's bistro is definitely a place you want to dine in giving you restaurant feel although it's very close quarters. I've dined in and also ordered take out many times and the food is consistently tasty. I recommend: Salted fish chicken fried rice Xo green beans Szechuan Eggplant Pan fried noodles Sesame chicken roasted duck Tofu (salt and pepper; mapo) The last time we ordered take care, we were missing a dish. We shared the chicken wings which reminded me of the wings from San Tung in San Francisco yum; the duck with rice noodles; clay pot egg plant; and the pot stickers. We love Kwok's! This place looks like a luncheonette but the most amazing Asian Fusion delights come out of their kitchen. They have an inspired wine list as well as some delicious treats. We recently attended a special dinner there for Chinese New Year. The place was packed with hungry fans - faces you'd recognize on TV, local celebrities and .. well, us. I've been hearing so many great things about Kwok's for a long time and finally decided to check it out! I was beyond impressed with the food here. We started with the egg rolls. I've never had handmade egg rolls before and I was blown away. The taro carrot noodle filling was so tender and perfectly seasoned and the outside wrapping was crisped to perfection. For my entree, I got the honey glazed prawns which were absolutely to die for. My partner got the general chicken and asked for it spicy which he loved. When we both took our first bites, we both looked at each other in ecstasy. We spent most of the meal in silence which is always a sign of a good meal for us. I decided to put some of the spicy general chicken sauce on the honey glazed prawns and was in heaven. Definitely the best honey glazed prawns I've ever had. I asked for a side of the magical Szechuan sauce which just took the prawns to a whole new level. The only downside is that I had a pretty terrible headache after the meal. I noticed the same headache return after eating the leftovers. I called to restaurant to see if maybe they used MSG and found out that all of their sauces contain MSG. If you are sensitive to MSG, I'd recommend looking elsewhere! read more

Based on the Reviews I read and their Gourmet Pricing I expected stellar. $20 for a bowl of soup from a low-rent location is a definite S T R E A C H... But if Great, than- yes, worth the money. Not in this case. I gave it a try and I'm sorry, money-wise, that I did. The China Diner which occupied that location some 25 years ago, which I ate at weekly, was a MUCH better value with quality food- so sorry they are long gone. Thanks to Kwok's, I've lost my taste for Wonton Soup for now. I was going to try their Potstickers the next time, but not now because they would probably taste much like the Wontons. $15 for three Potstickers??? Regardless of the relatively strong Reviews this establish has, I doubt they will remain in business for long with their San Francisco High-Rent location prices. Folks, this is Reno and their location is third tier rent-wise with scarce parking. Open four hours a day, six days a week-- no wonder their prices are so high - to make ends meet while not working hard. If you have money to burn, choose this place. The food at kwoks is some of the best quality Chinese food I've had in a while! None of the dishes had any greasy stains, everything tasted so real and well made. We ordered the bao buns to start which were fluffy doughy bites of heaven- tasted light and fresh despite being fried (again no grease from the buns- huge!) I also enjoyed the orange chicken and my duck noodles dish. The noodles were such a good texture that I felt like I could just inhale them. I did get like 5 bones in the duck though- which was never pleasant while chewing and I hoped that a dish where the noodle is the star they would have picked through and taken out any bones! While I love loved the food, service and ambiance needs a major upgrade. The inside is reservation only and tiny (like 6 tables), it wasn't clear at all where to park, and there was only one waitress staffed the whole night (inside and outside). She was very upbeat and friendly- but really at this price point we can have two waitresses so she doesn't have to rush. Our food actually was given to the wrong table which is never a great feeling playing food roulette and can be avoided with proper staffing. The outdoor seating is in this sad parking lot fenced in looking out at an empty lot next door and just sadness and concrete all around. Kwoks can at least zhuzh it up and decorate with fake grass or wood, some lights, some kind of cute ambiance but it felt more like an outdoor prison cafeteria! Food is so amazing though so I will just be getting takeout in the future or making a reservation for the indoor seating. read more

Another stellar meal at Kwok's. Going during the week and now that they only take reservations for dine-in, it was easy. I have to say, living on both coasts and experiencing lots of Chinese food (even in China, though they don't call it that there :-)), this is still my favorite place. As noted in other reviews, it's a super small place with some off street parking in back and on street all around. The interior is super clean, with nice jazz playing for background. The service is always pleasant and attentive. The namesake usually comes around to great diners, always quick with a smile and sometimes a story. We started with hot and sour soup and an order of crab/pork dumplings (it's on the specials menu but it's always been available...just put it on the menu!). Soup came out hot and the flavor was spot on. The dumplings are dense and come with an agreeable dipping sauce (sorry, no pix, dug in too quickly!!). Mains were Kwok's shrimp and House chow mein. Though noted as spicy, the shrimp was fairly mild (you can ask to kick it up a notch if you like it hot). Good size shrimp and a decent portion for 2. The flavor is what keeps us ordering it. The chow mein (and all their noodle dishes), are where other places fail...typically greasy and over-sauced. Kwok's dishes are all about the flavor, the house chow mein delivers exquisite flavor not buried in too much oil and sauce. One suggestion...use larger shrimp instead of the tiny bay shrimp. All in all, another first rate meal at this small place big on flavor and originality. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by my daughter. We weren't able to get a reservation because they're only open for limited hours so we ended up ordering takeout. Everything we ordered was delicious. If you like spicy then I recommend their five spice chicken wings. We also got the pan fried noodles, honey glazed shrimp, xo green beans and Szechuan beef entrees. None of the dishes disappoint.
