One of my favorites in Reno. The staff and service are always wonderful, I've been going here for years and still recognize most of the same staff which I take as a good sign. They have a great lunch special with plenty of options which is what I'm usually there for, but outside the lunch special I love the beef chow fun with black bean sauce. Tried the chow fun at other places in town but this is still my favorite by far. The potstickers are very good and packed with meat but a bit pricey. Overall a very strong recommendation, anyone easily recommend the lunch special for anyone's first visit. Also, honorable mention to the hot and sour soup. My wife knows how much I love Chinese food, so when she came across a TikTok review of Palais De Jade, she asked if I had ever been. I hadn't, but I had definitely heard of it. We decided to make it our next date night spot. We went on a Friday around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded yet. They asked if we preferred a table or a booth, and we went with a booth near the front. The restaurant itself is really nice, but I'll say the booth felt a little tight. Next time, we'll probably go with a table for a bit more space. The service was top notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our glasses were never empty, which always stands out. About 15 minutes after we sat down, the place filled up fast. It seemed like most people coming in had reservations, so I'd definitely recommend making one if you're planning to go after 6 pm. We decided on the Shanghai Dinner. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, and my wife got the sweet and sour chicken. I was tempted by the cashew chicken and kung pao chicken, but we'll save those for next time. The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it. It has come to my attention that for the last 31 years that when I am craving really good authentic Chinese food, I automatically go to PDJ. When some asks about bona fide Chinese dining that I always suggest PDJ first. The experience is sit down, formal, and shockingly consistent. The service level makes you think you are dining in this families home. The food is still the star of the show. The Peking Duck and Seafood Birds Nest are highlights. In reality, no matter what you like and spice level you are comfortable with you can't go wrong here. If you want to impress your lunch date, colleagues, or treat your loved ones, bring them here. I ordered the Wor Wonton soup and it was loaded with flavor ~ the beef & chicken were so tender, veggies and wontons cooked perfectly. I stopped in for the lunch special and had a mixed experience. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken, which was actually really tasty, along with brown rice and hot & sour soup. The soup was hearty, but it was missing that strong sour flavor I'm used to. The menu says the lunch special comes with two appetizers, but I was only given the option to choose one. I went with the chicken wings, which unfortunately came out cold. The atmosphere is interesting--more like a jazz café than a Chinese restaurant. It's elegant, but almost too elegant in a way that feels like they're trying a little too hard. The place was fairly busy, and the service was decent with no real complaints there. My biggest issue is the price. For over $18 after tax and tip, it doesn't really feel like a "lunch special." For the value, I'd rather head to Donut Bistro or Hong Kong Diner instead. My aesthetician moved off of Moana and usually after my appointment I pick up dinner. I thought to myself where shall I go to? I remember Palais De Jade was right around the corner! Fun fact: they've been open since 1989 the year I moved to Reno. They've never moved nor expanded not even opened a second establishment that says someone to me! I stepped through the door and straight ahead is the bar. I asked if I could get a take out order, they handed me a menu and I sat down at the bar and ordered a Sapporo beer. I decided to order the 2 people Shanghai dinner which included two entrées, rice, two spring egg rolls, two honey spareribs, and two Crab Rangoon. I chose the Hot & Sour soup for our side. It was $30 a person, plus .50 for the hot sauce which is homemade, up charge $5 for General Chicken should of gotten Kung Poo Chicken and then I got hit with a credit card service charge of 4% grand total around $81. I thought to myself what did I just order, but it worked out. We had left overs for a couple days. Chinese is always better the next day! read more

One of our new favorite "full dine-in experience" chinese restaurants in Reno. A little bit on the pricier side, but the quality and the ambiance is top tier. Palais de Jade is a long-standing establishment with over 30 years serving the Reno area. The restaurant staff were prompt and courteous with bright smiles on their face upon our entry. Upon being seated we noticed right away that many of their clientele were addressed and known by name - which went to show us the regulars that enjoy the restaurant. All seating that was visible in the restaurant consisted of comfortable padded booths. I sat comfortably but the tables are permanently attached to the flooring so anyone that is above average height or weight may not be as comfortable. My husband is over 6ft and would have liked the ability to move the table a little further for comfort, but that was not an option. The table setting was lovely, with plenty of plating and utinsels for the servings to come. As a party of two, we went with the Cantonese Dinner that is served with your choice of soups or salad, appetizers, your choice of rice and two entrees. We enjoyed the hot & sour and egg flower soup and the appetizers. You are served two of each which is perfect to share for two. The appetizers were delicious. My favorite were the crab rangoons, wrapped chicken and fried prawns. Our choice for entrees included the steamed white rice, Kung Pao Beef and Lemon Chicken. We appreciated the timing of the servings from beginning to end as it was prompt and attentive. The steamed white rice was served first in a medium sized covered container. Perfect for keeping your rice warm and steamed. The Kung Pao Beef was next. The beef was tender and cut in smaller portions. We love a good spicy Kung Pao, but despite the "spicy" sign on the menu we would say that it was more on the mild side for those spicy lovers out there. It was served with celery, dried red peppers and peanuts. Overall good. Additionally we opted for the fried Lemon Chicken. The chicken came out fried on a bed of crispy white noodles. The lemon sauce was served on the side which had a good flavor. I felt that the fried chicken could have used a little bit of salt prior to adding the lemon sauce, so I went on to add myself. Lemon sauce was good without being overly sweet or syrupy. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Palais de Jade and the pride and hospitality that dining staff provided. Took our food to go, but first off, the calamari app was, um, inedible. And I tried - really hard to steal a few from the box and chew. Took about 2 miles on 395 heading north in afternoon traffic to give up and flick the intact ring out the window (for the birds). The rings were large, tough and impossible to eat. I did lick/suck the coating off which was good - but not the point. The entrees were good, not earth shaking, but well seasoned and enjoyable. Drinks and little extras matter here too. The lunch-style salad with the peanut dressing gets talked about for a reason. It sounds simple, then you take a bite and you get it. If you are doing cocktails, the lychee martini has a lot of fans for a reason, and the chilled lychee is a fun finish if you want something light after a big shared meal. If you grew up in Reno, Palais de Jade feels like one of those places that quietly kept doing it right while everything else changed around it. I never judge a restaurant on a takeout order alone, so I'm mostly reserving judgement. The ambiance of the place looked very nice - decor was beautiful. The only service I can cite was that my order was ready when I arrived. As for food, I had salt & pepper calanmari and beef satay. Both were OK at best. I've had really good s&p squid, and if that was a 10, this was 7.5 at best. Beef was a bit dry. This place is rated very high for Chinese in Reno, so I'll try it again, but so far I'm not impressed. read more

I've found my main Chinese restaurant! I was here with my family to celebrate my sister's birthday. The friendly staff sat the four of us right away without a reservation. Our waitress was over immediately to take our drink and dinner order. The Hot and Sour soup was on point; I would have that again. The Spring Rolls and Pot Stickers were fantastic! General's Chicken was a little spicy, but I didn't mind it and would have it again. The chicken and Black Bean Sauce were delicious. BBQ Pork Fried Rice was what the birthday girl wanted, and she wasn't disappointed. The staff came out and sang Happy Birthday to my sister, and they did so with fantastic energy. Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant! Good service, beautiful interior, and amazing food! My usual is the crispy sesame chicken and either chicken chow mein or pork fried rice and it NEVER disappoints. Not greasy like most places in Reno. Waiters and waitresses come around very often and the prices are the same as most Chinese restaurants. Go here instead! So yummy and so worth it! The decor and the service was good the food not so much. Started with the tofu fried appetizer no seasoning whatsoever on the fried tofu just little cubes thrown in dusting and fried. The eggplant side dish was the best part about it and I'd only give that a 4. We had the chow fun mix noodles and they didn't have the thick noodles. It was just more like spaghetti noodle almost and not good meat at all. Then finally the general chicken was almost all breading the seasoning on it was good but all bread and tough stringy chicken. This trip we made it and are very thankful... loved it nice treat for the taste buds. Service was great along with the atmosphere and we started with crab Rangoon's, spring rolls, hot and sour soup, pork fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, cashew shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, and hot tea. We just ran out of room on the table for any more dishes. All the dishes were delicious though I was pleasantly surprised with the cashew shrimp. As a lover of Chinese food this restaurant went right to the top of my list. We tried the Peking dinner. Appetizers were: Flavorful lettuce wraps. Delicious Wor won ton soup. Crunchy fried shrimp and crab Rangoon with unusual sauces. We chose garlic flavored shrimp with huge shrimp. The star of the dinner was deep fried Sesame Beef. It was crunchy yet sticky and I am craving it today!! Very high props to all the employees. Excellent service. And lovely white table setting. This is a destination restaurant. I know I love their Crispy Fried Shrimp But take today, I ordered the Orange Crispy Fried Chicken Luncheon Special. A large plate of Crispy Fried Chicken was like eating Chicken Jerky. I'd have been happy with fewer pieces of chewable chicken. Everything else tasty okay. It was supposed to be spicy, but it was not. Like the hot and sour soup .. also not at all hot or sour. I went into Palais de Jade about a week ago and asked if they would be able to take a large to-go order (for 7 people) for Christmas Eve 12/24/25. They said yes & to come in the Monday before Christmas Eve to place my order. When I arrived on the Monday before Christmas Eve to place my order, they stated that they do not accept to-go orders ahead of time. I was flabbergasted with their response. They said I could order about an hour before I wanted to pick up the food, but there was no guarantee they could fill the order when I wanted it.
