We like this restaurant. Service is very friendly, even if a bit slow. The food is yummy. I'm going to say it, we've been to Japan and it's not as good. The pork in the katsu dish should be thick and moist. Still, we enjoy our meals every time we come.

Parking wasn't perfect, but far more manageable than expected. The staff brought a warm, down-to-earth energy, and the late-night 9-11pm happy hour was a home run! The ambiance felt intimate and polished, while the food delivered--especially the sushi and chicken appetizer, required some serious craftsmanship. The hot dog also was worth trying once, but it wouldn't make my "order again" list. We'll be back!

Pork belly ramen YUM! The grilled squid was Exquisite. Just realized how close that word is to squid lol.

This place is absolutely fantastic! I've actually been coming here for a few years with my friends for happy hour. Recently, I started coming for the food dinner and realized I was missing a lot. Their menu is very thoughtful in each dish has a nice variety of textures and flavors. I will say that their Ramen is one of the best in town. I think really what sets it apart is the broth being super in depth and they grill the pork belly which makes it really smoky and tender. This time I branched out and got the grilled squid as well and it was exceptional. The soy ginger glaze on it was incredible. The only few downsides I think I've noticed is service can be a little bit hit or miss which is surprising how small the places. Even when sitting at the bar, it took a little bit to get their attention. Also, I've tried a few of the cocktails and for the main part they just taste like alcohol with a soda. They sound extremely creative on the menu, but the balance isn't there. Either way I've typically gotten sake as they have a nice little selection. Overall, I love the whole vibe of this place. I always enjoy being able to see people make sushi. It's very open yet. Doesn't get overwhelmingly loud. Definitely my top three Japanese spots in Minneapolis.

I've been visiting on and off since 2017-18. The menu has a lot of great options inspired by Japanese cuisine. Parking is street and can be tough when busy. The inside is nice and I have always had good staff experiences and recommendations. Korokke - (this was a special) 4x fried potato croquettes. Corn, peas, carrots, kewpie mayo, tonkatsu sauce and bonito flakes. Really yummy almost like comfort food. Tsukune Skewers- chicken meatballs. Delish Shishito Skewers - Japanese chill pepper I love shishito peppers. Really good. Kaisen Yakisoba - Japanese egg noodles, shrimp, scallops, cabbage, onion, poached egg, red ginger. Japanese mayo, seaweed flakes. A lot of noodles and good flavor. Botaneb - spot prawn - unique but not a normal order. More fun to try. Suzuki - (under the Oshizushi part of the menu) sea bass, shiso leaf, black pepper, side of yuzu ponzu. This was my favorite. It was so delightful. Old Fashioned- Sesame Fat-Washed Suntory Toki, Thyme Simple Syrup, Cardamom & Umami Bitters Kara-age - (small plates) marinated, fried chicken cutlets with lemon and Japanese mayo Kinoko dog - mushrooms sauteed in butter and soy with Parmesan Kabocha Coffee Cake - Japanese kabocha squash pumpkin spice cake Always will visit again

Good sushi and good service! There's plenty of other dishes to try like ramen, rice toppings, and a variety of drinks. For kids they even have ramune on top of your regular soda selection; Cool ambiance with a Japanese baseball theme. Worth it for a date or even a group dinner!

I have been here twice, once in 2017 and once a week ago (2024), and I know that their Tonkatsu has remained the same since it looks exactly the same as it did 7 years ago. Regardless, I had a good experience here overall, and I would recommend it to people if they ask about Japanese food within the Twin Cities. For the agedashi tofu, our server poured the liquid after the tofu was brought to our table, which was the first time I have seen it done that way in the Twin Cities. The tonkatsu contained a good amount of rice and meat which was great, but the "potato salad" was bland, which I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be the case. Having some cucumbers and grape tomatoes was good for me, but I still wasn't sure if that was normal. Regardless, I liked it. Other than those, I enjoyed the ramen and the chicken kara.age as well. They were as good as I imagined they would be. In terms of the nigiri and maki rolls, I thought they were overpriced and there were not enough to fill up my friend's stomach. She had to order additional rolls to ensure that she could get a decent amount of food to be full. Our bill accumulated quickly and ended up being beyond what we had expected. One thing I would also mention is that Kyatchi is located in a good location that makes it very convenient for those in the King Field area to go there, including walking. If people ask me to recommend 5 Japanese restaurants in the Twin Cities, then I would mention this establishment.

Needed an idea for a potluck holiday party and stopped in to visit with the staff. Super helpful and recommended a great combination of specialty rolls and appetizers. The food was amazing and the presentation was gorgeous. The platter they pulled together for us was a huge hit and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food! Highly recommend checking this place out. There are a couple of better known sushi restaurants in town but this is definitely the best sushi place you haven't tried!

Kyatchi is an absolute gem in Minneapolis for anyone who loves authentic Japanese food, especially sushi/ramen... but their Hot Dogs! From the moment you step inside, you can feel the cozy, welcoming atmosphere. I took my better half for Valentine's Day dinner. Aside from sushi and ramen, I highly recommend trying their House Dog and Kinoko Dog. The ramen had a rich, deep broth. They also have an excellent selection of sake, which paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, Kyatchi is a fantastic spot for a casual yet top-notch dining experience. Whether you're a sushi lover or just looking for quality Japanese food in Minneapolis, this is the place to go!

We really like Kyarchi. Not only it has good sushi, sashimi, ramen, and also interesting Japanese hotdog . You gotta try them. My toddlers also like the children menu. The rice, and chicken meat ball is my toddlers fav. We enjoy the various dishes we ordered, as well as their drink and dessert. The servers are very friendly, and the restaurant's environment is well-decorated and clean. Recommended.

The food is a little overrated, especially for its price. On average, our spending was about $20 per person and none of us were full. Portion sizes are tiny and the taste of the food wasn't that good. Service also took at least 20 minutes, and we were seated around 9pm, so we didn't expect the wait times for food to be that long. Overall rating: 5/10

GREAT quality of the fish, and the prices are totally acceptable! Great service & lots of seats available during weekend lunch time. Would definitely visit again!

Love Kyatchi. Came here for my birthday and got my favorite-the tonkatsu. Quick service and good vibes. FYI you can't tip on your card so bring cash, or you might be able to Venmo your server.

The inside of the restaurant feels open and you have full view of the kitchen which I always appreciate. On my last visit I tried the tenderloin yakitori, which ended up being rather disappointing - no more than a couple bites of a single piece of beef that was rather underwhelming in both flavor and texture for $12. There was no char, which defeats the entire point of Yakitori and really does not bring out the flavor of the meat. I also ordered the pasta dish off the seasonal menu, and it was underseasoned. The appetizers are good and several have a unique fusion, but these are small plates which feel like you're getting half as much as you might expect for the cost. Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna, topped with spicy crab and eel sauce, all wrapped in a gorgeous pink soybean wrapper. This was hands-down our favorite... bold, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat. The Twin Cities roll was a very close second. Served warm with a tempura coating, it was packed with spicy crab, tuna, and avocado, then finished with eel and spicy sauces and green onion. Rich, crispy, and deeply satisfying. We also tried the Kickboxer roll, loaded with spicy crab and tempura shrimp, topped with a sweet-spicy sauce and Sriracha for an extra kick. The broth was creamy and comforting, with two large scallops, a perfectly cooked shrimp, half a soft-boiled egg, plus noodles, sprouts, and bok choy. It felt like a warm hug in a bowl.
