They have private rooms that are perfect for groups. We just had a birthday girls night here and it was so fun. We reserved a private room and it was perfect. Some of the women had a little trouble sitting on the floor, or I should say getting up after sitting on the floor, but it was so worth it. The food is spectacular, it not only is the best tasting Japanese food I've had, it is presented so beautifully. The salad and miso soup were good. I had tofu/vegetable ju (box of rice with tofu/veg over it), and it was one of the blandest things I've ever eaten in my life. I'm not exaggerating. My wife, who I've eaten with for 5 years, commented that she's never seen me NOT finish a meal, and this time I left 3/4 of the meal without eating it. She had sushi, which she said was fair, but I tried it and the rice was dryish. I couldn't eat it. I went to Gelson's and bought a bag of chips, and that was my dinner. Also, like people mentioned, there was a lot of "sake bomb, sake bomb"--BANG going on in the background. However, the staff were really nice. I would go again, and maybe try the tempura. I'm sorry but the food or quality of sushi and the prices are not worth the horrible service this place gives. It actually blows my mind how bad it is consistently. Which is unfortunate because the private rooms are great for parties and I live right down the street from here so it's convenient. They completely ruined my birthday June 2nd. We sat inside one of the rooms for 20 min no water no service not even a "Hi". I had to go out several times any time we needed to order or get more sake. Turns out we didn't even have a server. Every server thought another server was taking care of Us. Needless to say our bill was extremely low considering how many was in our group, since it was difficult any time we needed to order something. What a joke. read more

I love this restaurant. Every time I go here I get great service and delicious food. Amazing food!!!! The business is well organized and they make their own salad dressing. Their own secret recipe. Fantastic sushi! I'm a big sushi fan and have tried many different kinds. This is probably the best sushi I've ever had. My girlfriend and I decided to go here while we were visiting Santa Barbara. We found it on Yelp and headed there to give it a try. We were beyond satisfied. We split the Crazy Monkey Roll (among other rolls and actual sushi), and we couldn't get enough. Neither of us had ever had sushi that was so tender...it just melts in your mouth! In fact, everything we ordered melted in your mouth. Our sushi chef was very friendly and the service was great, even if it was slow and about an hour away from closing. We both HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who loves great sushi. read more

I'm not really sure how Kyoto doesn't have 5 stars, but for me it's a 10. This is my favorite restaurant and favorite sushi restaurant. The service is great, the owners are extremely nice. We Came here the 2th day from our nice trip.....This sushi here is sooo good here...I came here last year with my partner and we loved it here very much......the rolls start from 12-13$ dollars and up but it's worth it......it gets pack here in the afternoon and night...we got here on a Friday night .....people drink good Japaneses beer and warm Saki always get the tofu rolls with some energy rolls....OMG GOOD GOOD!....we will be coming agenda soon... read more

Maybe we are spoiled former Seattleites who got too used to inexpensive, awesome sushi, but this place is mediocre sushi at a premium sushi price. It also took FOREVER for my food to come out (boyfriend's was quicker...he was totally finished by the time my stuff started showing up, like 30 minutes later). At one point I was sure they'd forgotten my order all together. Food and service weren't horrible per se, but I doubt we'll be back. Great little place - found it on Yelp on a long road trip down the coast. Generous portions of sashimi (we don't eat rolls - I can eat rice at home :) ), good selection and good prices. I like coming here for lunch. The atmosphere is much more peaceful. (It can get crazy here at night with the parties of college kids sake bombing!) I like the ton katsu, a pork cutlet beaded in panko and deep fried served with a dipping sauce somewhat similar to ponzu. The miso soup is nice and tasty too. Prices are quite reasonable and the service is friendly. If only they carried strawberry nigori sake I'd be here like twice a week. read more

This place is beyond AMAZING! My boyfriend and I found it on yelp and decided to give it a try since it had such great reviews. We were both so happy to have come across this place, and i'm tempted to just drive to SB for their sushi. Everything was so tender and delicious. I highly recommend the Crazy Monkey and the Hawaiian roll. Both were to die for. The service was great and prices were reasonable. Definitely worth every penny. I spent the entire rest of our trip salivating over just thinking about the sushi...and I'm typically not a huge sushi fan. So that says a lot. read more

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in Santa Barbara. They have a tiny parking lot, but usually I can find street parking. I love their Tatami Rooms...so much fun with a group of friends. The best part: the service. Our server was great, kept our drinks full, checked back often (but not too often), and got our orders fast. Which was awesome bc we were starving. Con: the food is just okay, and no one was particularly blown away by their roll or menu dish. It's a good place for lots of people but not a place for great food. I don't know that it's completely fair that I give Kyoto 1 star, seeing as I didn't eat here THIS time. However, I have eaten here in the past and remember it being OK, but I don't remember it being this filthy. Upon entering, I was immediately hit in the face with a bathroom smell. They then proceeded to seat us directly next to the bathrooms, where it reeked even more. The booths and tables were sticky and covered with old food while the ceiling was completely caked with dust and dirt. Couldn't find the health score posted anywhere...one could only assume an embarrassing number. read more

Kyoto has pretty good sushi and fast service. I come here with my friends most often to sake bomb. They have great little rooms for large groups and the servers come back to check on you so you can always order more. Andy is the best server we've had by far so make sure to ask for him! :) read more

Hawaiian roll is amazing, a little small for the price, but consistently good. Salmon teriyaki bento box comes with soup, rice, and salad, lots of sides, salmon filet was a bit small but delicious, with all the sides you get plenty full. Service is good. Booths are a bit old and somewhat uncomfortable to sit in. read more

Have never had good service here. Come back hoping for a good experience for some reason, and never get one. Then the last time I came I got the scallop nigiri and got TERRIBLE food poisoning.
