Kyoto Sushi is our favorite sushi restaurant in Ventura county!! The warm and friendly service, the authentic and fresh flavors of everything...It's almost therapeutic. Odd to say perhaps but this is true for my friend and I. Everything is consistent; Food quality - always fresh in flavor restaurant, customer service is consistently wonderful. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. The ambiance is inviting, perfect for an enjoyable meal and there's always great music playing. Plus it's always clean. Now, for the best part: the food. The cuisine is authentic and absolutely delicious. We order different sushi rolls and each one is a work of art--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Even the basic rolls...not art but outstanding flavor and quality. If you like RAMEN....please try the seafood ramen here. My goodness, it's so good. I cannot recommend Kyoto Sushi enough. If you're in Ventura and craving authentic Japanese food in a clean, welcoming environment with incredible service, this is the place to go. We will definitely be back!!

We were welcome as we entered the restaurant and seated right away. The restaurant is very clean and small. The menu has lots to choose from. The food was very delicious. I believe we just found a new favorite. We will be back.

This sushi place is fire. The food is sooo good, 10/10 recommend.

The food at this sushi place is honestly so good. Every time I come here, the flavors are fresh, the rolls are perfect, and everything tastes way better than most places I've tried. I really recommend it if you're craving sushi or just want something delicious and satisfying. The service is great, the vibe is nice, and the whole experience just makes you want to come back again. It's one of those spots where you take one bite and immediately know you made the right choice. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should -- it's sooo good.

The ambiance was very calm, warm, and friendly. The service was great! Our waitress was really sweet. The chef gave us 2 complimentary Gyoza, and they were absolutely, without a doubt, the best gyoza I've ever had. The crisp was insane, and the flavor was bursting! A wonderful surprise. We also got hot tea, which was and always is great and starts the meal off. I ordered a miso soup as I always like to see how good their soup is, it kinda sets the tone of the meal for me. It had tons of flavor, and felt like a hug to my stomach. My spouse ordered the Red Blossom Roll, she loved the roll and said it was very balanced with the salmon and tuna, and it had really good flavor, it was very fresh. Simple and delicious. I ordered the Las Vegas roll and really enjoyed it as well. The fry wasn't too heavy, and it didn't feel overly filling, it was the perfect balance of sweet, crunchy, salty, savory. We then shared the Calliand Roll, that was special! I have never tried anything like it. Sweet, but delicious, that melted cream cheese was just divine! We just moved to town and were starting our sushi spot search, but I don't feel we need to search anymore. It was 10/10 for us, we will be back, and often! Check them out if you're in the neighborhood, it's a small but mighty place!

Super Tiger Roll

Food is amazing! Definitely a hidden gem on the East side Ventura. Service was great too! Clarisse was my server and she gave me extraordinary service. So friendly and on point!

Fried Gyoza and delicious hot tea! Check out that little kettle and that tea cup! Love it!

I've been here twice and I really love it. Their hot tea is delicious! It's like that gunpowder green tea - the flavor is POW! Delicious. I also love their Korean Ramen. It's pure comfort food. Their fried gyoza is perfect! For me it's little things... that make this place 5 stars. The music is great. Big speaker near the door that plays a great mix of music. Custom, not a radio station but a nice play list. The bathrooms are clean. The tables are roomy and seats are comfortable. Customer service is the best! The food is ALWAYS tasty! Lots of regular customers that always return! Ambience is great. Cozy, friendly, you feel welcomed. I really feel happy here. Definitely need that in our rush-rush world of fast food chains. It was raining.... The music was romantic and lovely. Definitely needed this little retreat in my life today. Thank you Shawn (or is it Sean?) for your great cooking and great service! Just love Kyoto Sushi!

Horrible!! I can usually eat sushi if it's OK but I can't if it's horrible. This is disappointing. Kyoto is better than this. These rolls taste like mush and they are loaded with a spicy Sriracha sauce and that is all I can taste. You're better than this Kyoto!

No. But you get a lot of food.

Do they still offer all you can eat? If so, how much is it?

No one was in the restaurant when we came in, just about an hour after opening, but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and sat! We ordered the Garlic Edamame, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Baked Salmon Roll, Foursome Roll, and the Garlic Albacore Roll. Everything tasted amazing and fresh-- the only roll I wouldn't order again is the Garlic albacore roll, but that's one of the many fish we have yet to try and it doesn't seem like it's for us! Totally fine. The foursome roll was AMAZING because you get a side of tuna poke and it was perfect to put it on top of the roll itself and the crispy rice! All in all it was a great experience and for everything (add a soda and a green tea in there) it was $100 with a tip for the two of us! We even had food left over! I wish I could've snagged a picture but we were too excited to eat! We will definitely be back :)

It was Happy Hour, so we ordered a few things from the Happy Hour menu. I ordered the salmon-baked roll and the Vegetable tempura roll. I love the taste of salmon, so I always order salmon rolls wherever I go. Sorry, but honestly, I didn't like the baked salmon roll here; there was too much sauce, and I couldn't really taste the salmon. Americans might like the taste. The vegetable tempura roll was ok. I think the rice was not tasty in either roll. The jasmine tea was my favorite type with blooming jasmine flowers. The service was excellent. There are also large tables, so it's good for families and groups. The parking lot is in front of the restaurant.

We ordered 5 things, 2 rolls, one meh, the cherry blossom, one expectedly good, the crunch (reliability good across all locations unless something is seriously wrong) And finally one so bad that it was sent back after my father and I tried one, the Thomason. My father ordered the chicken katsu, one worthy mention is the oiliness of this along with it being significantly more bread than chicken. Gyozas (fried) were equally oily and the sauce being entirely unflavored, in favor of more oil. Finally ambiance, leading back to the first point, it's certainly new management, as previously, the ambience was immaculate, the staff were mostly Japanese, the songs were good, and while the seating was certainly cramped, it felt natural in a very Japanese way. Now the previously mentioned tight-quarters is quite glaring, as the music is the classic mix of pop and rock that fills places with no identity, the staff are mostly Mexican, and while I have nothing against that, its quite weird to be in a Japanese restaurant listening to Spanish. Unfortunately I am one who reviews only when something extremely interesting happens with the food and location, and the interesting happenstance at this restaurant is how much it is not worth your time or money anymore.

I've always known about Sumo's super popular HHours. Went for my first visit, and the space is…read moremodern and bright. Feels very contemporary and not like a darker wood ambiance of more traditional Japanese sushi places. This place must generate most of their business from their super packed HH. Once 5pm hit, it got noticeably busier, and by 530pm- fully packed. Sumo is maybe one of the few places that allows takeout of their HH items because they know how crowded they get. That is generous of them. I think their prices are among the most affordable for HH sushi around this area and everything was fresh. I am not picky sushi rolls person, but I would guess their sushi quality is average, made for mass consumption and general public, not for people who really want Japan level top grade sushi/ sashimi. Service: it all depends. Most of the servers are college aged young women. So a lot of them huddle and talk during busy HH time while they constantly scan the busy entrance for new diners. It can take awhile for someone to actually come take your order; we were lucky our server was pretty sweet natured. But in general I don't get the vibe that most of the servers are very focused about their jobs. But with busy HH, warm and friendly service isn't a priority. We're here for the HH deals and fresh affordable sushi. For these points, Sumo delivers. The ambiance: modern and bright, not my first choice. I prefer more low key settings. I think if I came to eat solo, eating at the sushi bar would be a pleasant experience, if I came before 5pm rush.
